S7E20 went out Live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 16 May 2024. Gary Moore kicked us off with Friday on my Mind. In Evolutions we continue to look at the evolution of the Foo Fighters, this week's track was the acoustic version of Everlong. Twisted Triplets featured tracks called ‘Change of Heart'. Tom Petty, Bruce Dickinson and Jimmy Barnes all had tracks with that name. Immortals this week came from The Doors. This one is special, ‘The End' is one of the most atmospheric pieces of music ever committed to vinyl and showcases Jim Morrison at his best. One is tempted to say they don't make ‘em like this anymore. They do, but the times have changed and you had to be there I guess. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘T'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. This week we had: Texas Hippie Coalition – Pride of TexasTestament – Dark Roots of the EarthThin Lizzy – Cold SweatTesla – Don't De-Rock Me Bomb Crocodile and Slow Panda's picks of the week were Bullet For My Valentine ‘All These Things I Hate (revolve around me) and Korn ‘Blind'. S7E18 went out on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 25 May 2024. It was nice to be back doing a live show and chatting to all the wonderful people on TSORR Central. We kicked off with Metallica and ‘The Struggle Within' and the rock didn't stop for the next 3 hours. This week we played the first track in a 10-week series called Evolution. This was inspired by an article I read and a playlist that tracked the evolution of the Foo Fighters. I will do a track per week and then we'll do the Evolution of the next band after that. Note that if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down and forcing podcasters onto YouTube Music. The problem with that, is you just can't get through the red tape, and the shows get blocked due to the convoluted licencing structures. You can find us on plenty of other sites if this happens. The TSORR website www.thestoryofrockandroll.com will always be able to help. You can also always contact TSORR on Facebook, X, or Instagram. This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Rain'. Once again, we had triplets, it turns out that The Cult, Dead City Ruins and Candlebox all had kids called 'Rain'. Immortals this week came from Iron Maiden. We listened to the title track off 1983's Powerslave. Adrian Smith told a great story about his guitar solo on the track which was worth retelling. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘R'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. This week we had: Rammstein – MutterRush – Moving PicturesThe Rolling Stones – Voodoo LoungeRodriguez – Cold Fact Artists Featured: Metallica, Nazareth, ZZ Top, Alice Cooper, Dave Hause, Kickin' Valentina, Thin Lizzy, ACDC, Slash feat Iggy Pop, Pebbleman, 12th Avenue, Pearl Jam, Accept, The Cult, Dead City Ruins, Candlebox, Theory of a Deadman, Buckcherry, Probot, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Live, Rob Halford, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Rush, The Rolling Stones, Rodriguez, Thundermother, Grand Funk Railroad, Megadeth, Exhorder, Halestorm, Zakk Wylde, Arch Enemy. Two hours of heavy metal news, interviews, and (most importantly) music with Terry and Xan, produced by Manawatū People's Radio with the support of New Zealand On Air.
Exhorder drummer Sasha Horn revisits the CBBP to talk about their new record Defctum Omnium, the process of recording it, their recent tour to South America w/ Vio-lence, line up changes, desert vortex's, the recent addition of guitarist Pat O'Brien, thinning hair -vs- “cutting your losses”, enjoying their new sense of camaraderie, and good things to come in 2024!!!!https://www.exhorder.com/PIC: Kyle Kazlaw
Exhorder is one of the pioneers within the groove-oriented thrash metal scene, later occupied by heavyweights like Pantera and Machinehead. The New Orleands band, with vocalist and guitarist Kyle Thomas at its helm, has made waves in the metal scene since their debut album 'Slaughter in the Vatican' was released in 1990. The band broke up a few years after their second album 'The Law' (1992) and didn't release new music until 2019 with the album 'Mourn the Southern Skies'. We spoke with Kyle about their latest album 'Defectum Omnium' (2024), the punk mentality, making people feel something with their music, his voice, keeping a band together, guitarist Pat O'Brien (Cannibal Corpse) joining the band, and a lot more! In this chat with Exhorder's Kyle Thomas, we explore the band's album "Defectum Omnium," set to release via Nuclear Blast in early March 2024. Kyle sheds light on the album's themes alongside discussions about the inspiration behind their music. We also delve into the recent addition of Pat O'Brien from Cannibal Corpse to the band and Exhorder's connections with fellow New Orleans bands like Eyehategod and Phil Anselmo. The conversation takes a deeper dive into specific tracks, such as "The Tale of Unsound Minds". Furthermore, Kyle addresses Exhorder's perspective on comparisons to Pantera and reflects on the current political landscape, particularly in light of authoritarian measures during the COVID era.
Support The Podcast Kyle is back on the show to talk mainly about new killer album Defectum Omnium. I say mainly because this was Kyle's last interview of the day so there is a bit of an "end of term" vibe to this chat which covers everything from vocal warm downs to Black Sabbath cover bands. There is an extended look at the news as I get way too exercised about the non stories of the last two weeks. Ever heard of the band Idles? Thought not. This Is Lizard Bollocks. Video Interview

Whether it's the Kool-Aid man crashing through walls with refreshments, Macho Man Randy Savage snapping into Slim Jims, or James Hetfield just being the most affirmative frontman in all of metal, YEAH is the common denominator among these men of greatness. In our quest for the SOURCE OF THE YEAH, we felt obliged to produce our most positivity infused and affirmation laden episode yet, an endorsement with which we express absolute assurance, conviction, and certitude. Throughout the history of metal, YEAH has always been (and will forever be) an affirmation of positivity. There's pre-metal YEAHS, backwards YEAHS, accidental & hidden YEAHS, the ever elusive “YEAH YEAH” (aka “The Double YEAH”), pre & post Black Album YEAHS, the supreme & preeminent Sabbath YEAH, a single worded song title with a single worded lyric which is called (wait for it…) “YEAH”, and believe it or not, there's even a Slayer YEAH. And oh YEAH, it's highly likely that our “painstaking research” brought us to the potentially “spellbinding” origin point which may truly be the source of ALL the YEAHS. Prepare to ponder the wisdom of “trading youth for wealth”, because “they're releasing the dragons again” next year. Go ahead and call up your “transformer and shapeshifter” friends, don your gay apparel, and get caught up on all your “holiday shopping” after you contact “Screamin' Jay Howlin' Wolf III” to reclaim your “happiness”. Find out what Rainman sounds like “when he's hammered” and don't deny the “unredacted” power, endless versatility, & untapped functionality behind our latest tagline for “OnlyFans” when you JOIN US in our immersion into the affirmative on our quest for the SOURCE OF THE YEAH!!! While EXHORDER may be one of the more obscure artists from the thrash metal heyday of the late 80's and early 90's, they are undoubtedly one of the most criminally underrated bands of the genre, fortified with an arsenal of precision riffing, breakneck speed, and sheer instrumental mastery that only “the best of the best” old school thrash bands possessed. Go ahead and get yourself a big ole bottle of “bacon soda” and be advised how to bypass the nonsense and “get straight to the meat” as you find out which podcast has cracked the Top 100 and understand why “the Gadsden flag dude” stationed near the Bunkerpoon has given us hope for the future. Toomey and Akin start the show with the news that the WWE has sold and they talk about the value of content. The guys then switch focus over to Terry Glaze and his Pantera Celebration comments that were not that Van Halen is a great band. Jimmy Bower has his thoughts on Pantera vs Exhorder and the guys give their two cents. You can AirBNB a house that Ace Frehley hasn't lived in since the early 80s. Sully Erna once "dated" Lady Gaga. Joshua and Chris then break down the story of a La Vernge police department that turned X-rated. Chris talks about his love of murder porn and Joshua recommends a great band out of Nashville called Hard Reset. This is an ep for the ages!

THIS WEEK ON TOILET RADIO: We got a lovely email from a listener asking, "So what exactly do I do with the information that Matt Pike is big time into antisemitic conspiracy theories?" We're also talking about what was the final Maryland Deathfest(?) including: Will Rahmer's Big Weekend Out, people doing gross shit, barricades burst, beer shortages, and a death in the middle of a festival. Can't say I blame the organizers for calling it quits. Exhorder has a new guitarist: Pat O'Brien, formerly of Cannibal Corpse. Weird! Akhlys got mad about not being included in the festivities and had to look up some synonyms about it. Finally, Prosthetic Records is now sponsoring our favorite soccer team: The Glossop North End Football Club. Everyone knows we've been lifelong fans of this club so it's a nice surprise. Man, I think I wanted to talk to Kyle Thomas from the legendary groove metal band, Exhorder more than anyone in a long time.Kyle has been a influence in the music scene for as long as I've been listening to heavy music, and his vocal style has been ripped off for years. Some of the biggest bands ever copped his sound, but we can't complain about that.Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? The band is back together again, and are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut, Slaughter in the Vatican. They are taking the show on the road, and will be playing a venue near you in December, as well as key dates and festivals coming up in the new year.I was able to snag Kyle for a few minutes before our connection went to pot. After 10 days, we tried again, but our connection was still rough, so we cut it short and I cobbled the audio together for this release. I apologize, but sometimes the fates don't allow, and they definitely didn't this go around. With that, I hope you'll check out the band on tour, buy their latest release, Mourn the Southern Skies, and get into this iconic group so they jump past mythic status and into the realm of legend where they belong. This is my conversation with the man himself, Kyle Thomas, from Exhorder, on the Rockstar Superhero Podcast.-----------------Time Codes:1:50 Praising Kyle through stories3:00 Z-Rock, Judas Priest, and Stryper4:30 Slaughter in the Vatican6:00 Starting to see hypocrisy in church7:30 The album cover they wanted to do9:00 Being a target in the rock biz10:30 Chief influences12:40 The feeling about the musical message of Slaughter14:00 Ozzy and the church15:20 Kids stuff17:00 Why did the band get back together18:30 Why is the band in the music business19:30 Touring an album is expensive"My Time" provided by Exhorder, from the release, Mourn the Southern Skies, courtesy of Nuclear Blast Records, copyright 2018. We had the distinct pleasure of shooting the shit with one of my favorite vocalists, Mr. Kyle Thomas, of Exhorder fame. This was a seriously fun interview and Kyle covers tons of ground in the time we had from Exhorder in the beginning to now, and everything in between! Listen through to the end for the Heavy As Texas tune, King of Fools. It was truly an honor to talk to Kyle and we hope to have him on again!
