The SGX Nifty was trading 50 odd points higher at 11,840 levels at 7:30 AM, indicating a gap-up opening for the Indian markets today. This comes despite a weak set of global cues. US indices fell sharply to open the week’s trading, as anxiety over new record daily COVID-19 cases in the United States, Russia and France weighed on investor appetite. The Dow fell 2.3 per cent, the S&P 500 lost 1.86 per cent, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.64 per cent. Asian markets also declined on Tuesday. Australia’s ASX 200 fell 1.6 per cent, while Japan’s Nikkei dipped 0.2 per cent. Hong Kong’s main index also slid half a per cent. Back home, corporate results will remain the key trigger for the Indian markets. Investors will first react to the results announced post market hours yesterday. Despite a dip in its US and Brazil revenues, Torrent Pharmaceuticals yesterday posted a 27 per cent year-on-year growth in its consolidated profit after tax for the September quarter of FY21 at Rs 310 crore. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services’ net profit rose by 21 per cent to Rs 304 crore in Q2FY21, from Rs 252 crore in the same quarter a year ago. A total of 37 companies including Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, and Amara Raja Batteries are scheduled to announce their September quarter earnings today. Analysts expect Bharti Airtel's losses to shrink and revenue rise on year-on-year basis, helped by firm subscriber addition and ARPU rise in an otherwise seasonally weak quarter. Meanwhile, Tata Motors is seen reporting muted numbers in year-on-year terms, largely due to fall in JLR volume. Meanwhile, in a big positive for India, MSCI will implement changes in Foreign Ownership Limits in the MSCI Global Indexes containing Indian securities coinciding with the November 20202 Semi-Annual index review. On the Covid front, India's total cases have risen to 79.45 lakh, with 1.19 lakh deaths, according to the latest update by Worldometer. And now a quick look at other top news State-owned power giant NTPC on Monday said its board will on November 2 consider a proposal to buy back the company's equity shares. Hulst B V, the promoter of IT firm Coforge Ltd, on Monday sold 38 lakh shares of the company for more than Rs 878 crore. Hulst B V held 70.28 per cent stake in the company, as per the shareholding pattern as on September quarter. Aditya Puri yesterday stepped out of HDFC Bank's corporate headquarters after handing over charge to Sashidhar Jagdishan as the new chief executive and managing director of the largest private sector lender. Aurobindo Pharma has reached a definitive agreement to sell its US subsidiary Natrol LLC to private equity firm New Mountain Capital and its affiliate Jarrow Formulas in an all-cash transaction valued at $550 million.

Watch out, listeners! Today we are talking about digestion, intestines, poop, and gas! Yes friends, that’s right! This episode focuses on the gut. To be more specific, we are talking about healing your gut after using oral contraceptives aka “The Pill”. In reality, all forms of birth control that involve hormones can cause a whole bunch of problems in your digestive system. But, for the sake of conversation we talk a lot about “birth control”, meaning hormonal contraceptives.    Birth control increases your risk for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), other bacterial dysbiosis, and more!    Sophia shares her story about her fling with hormonal birth control alongside the diagnosis of IBS.    Women often experience yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis while using hormonal contraceptives. Your vagina isn’t the same as your gut, but both have their own delicate microbial balances. If your digestives system is out of whack, your vaginal health is often greatly impacted.    Having cyclical changes in your bowel movements is normal. During your luteal phase, your smooth muscle relaxes. This can cause more acid reflux symptoms and can cause digestion to slow… aka constipation. Then, the pendulum swings when your period comes. You feel the urge to poop and pee way more, and maybe even have diarrhea! We built this episode to help you deal with these symptoms if they’re bothering your from month to month.   Your digestive tract is lined with hormone receptors. Hormones affect the actual cells of your gut, but they also affect the kinds of healthy bacteria that grow and flourish. This can be why you experience gas and bloating when using birth control, or during different times in your cycle.  We want to teach you, practically, how to manage these symptoms with your diet. So perk up, friends! Relief is on the way!   First thing: Plants and fiber! Our bodies are made to eat a lot of plant material by means of veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, and grains. Fiber is just a simple way to say “indigestible carbohydrates”. Even though we don’t get any calories or nutrients when we eat fiber, it’s vital to keeping our gut flora happy and healthy. We focus on fiber FOODS, not fiber supplements like metamucil or fiber gummies. Our favorite high fiber foods to heal your gut are:  Veggies - these are the BEST fiber sources in all the WORLD! Stick with broccoli, leafy greens, sweet potato, artichoke hearts, avocado Fruits - peaches, pears, plums, and berries are high fiber Lentils and beans - only if you’re not prone to painful gas Quinoa - if you’re able to tolerate the carbohydrate load without spiking insulin Caitlin’s Fiber blend - mix equal parts chia seeds, flax seeds, and psyllium all mixed together! Mix a teaspoon into water before meals to really boost your fiber intake.    Healthy fats help promote the right kinds of bacteria in your digestive tract. Foods like meat from factory farmed animals, processed animal products, and seed oils (canola, cottonseed, corn, soy, hydrogenated, safflower, and vegetable oils) promote overgrowth of some unhealthy bacteria colonies. To balance that out, replace those lower-quality fats with foods like: Avocado Olive Oil Coconut Oil Grass-fed butter and dairy Meat from healthy, sustainably raised animals   Sophia then pontificates about healthy meats and where they come.    Eat a lot of fermented foods! This used to be the only way to preserve food past its fresh point. Here’s what we mean when we talk about fermented foods: Naturally pickled veggies and sauerkraut Preserve spreads made with natural fruit juices  Yogurt and kefir (fermented dairy) Natto and tempeh (fermented soy)   If you’re someone who struggles with sugar cravings, these fermented foods will help you kick cravings and get your belly in line!   Now, let's talk about what NOT to eat!   Sweetness - The ups and downs of blood sugar drastically affect your intestinal system. Here are the foods to avoid Baked goods, sweetened drinks, syrupy coffee drinks, candy, jams, jellies, condiments, and sugary treats  Artificial sweeteners - these blow you up more than anything. Sugar free flavored syrups, energy drinks, pre-workout, protein powder, and diet-anything are the worst culprits.   Probiotic Supplements: Caitlin and I usually recommend FemDophilis from Jarrow Formulas. FemEcology by Vitanica is also one of our favorites. What we DO NOT suggest is going to Costco or Sam’s Club and buying a barrel of whatever bargain brand you can find.  Here’s what else to look for: Research done on that particular brand Refrigeration  - make sure what you are buying is still alive Specifics - make sure the package tells you exactly which strains are present, and in what amounts.    Remember to be gentle on yourself as you make these changes! Also, be realistic about bowel movements. If you don’t poop everyday, something is up! Contact us and let us help you get it out.

Dr. Anthony specializes in evaluating dietary supplement formulations and has a passion for both nutrition and health.   There is so much to learn from Dr. Anthony and his research, but here are a few highlights of our conversation: Diet, lifestyle and nutrition all play key roles in our immune system’s function. There’s a strong connection between our gut health and immunity. Key ways to nurture gut health include ensuring your body receives the appropriate amounts of Vitamin A, Vitamin D, zinc, probiotics, and dietary fiber. Supplementing our diets with probiotics and prebiotics is extremely beneficial to our overall health. We’re talking about a hot topic today: probiotic supplements. On the show, my guest, Anthony Thomas, Ph.D., shares the true definition of a probiotic, discusses why taking the right probiotic supplement may be good for your health, and explains what to look for on supplement labels to make sure you're getting what you paid for. Antony Thomas, Ph.D. is the Director of Scientific Affairs at Jarrow Formulas. I met him back in January at a conference where he gave an eye-opening lecture on probiotic supplements and the importance of knowing about the strains you're taking. It turns out that not all probiotics are created equal. The key to choosing the right supplement for you or a family member is to look for probiotic strains that been studied for a specific health benefit. We covered a lot of ground on the podcast, so I decided to split the Probiotic Supplements episode into two parts. In Part 1, Dr. Thomas offers a primer on probiotics. In Part 2, he answers YOUR questions ... and trust me, you had a lot of questions! Show Highlights: A brief discussion about dietary supplements that have been studies for healthy aging and longevity. The “microbiome” and “microbiota” ... what they are and what they mean. Where microbial communities live in and on our bodies and their many health benefits. How certain probiotic supplements can help some women ward off urinary tract infections (UTIs). The intricacies of the vaginal microbiota. Less diversity is better. A probiotic is defined by the World Health Organization as: Live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host. Probiotics are strain, dose, and condition specific. Good Examples: Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (marketed to support digestive health and supported by science) Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 (marketed to support women's vaginal and urinary tract health and supported by science) When evaluating a probiotic supplement, make sure the manufacturer identifies the Genus, Species, and Strain. If a probiotic, for example, is listed as Lactobacillus (which is the genus) and rhamnosus (which is the species), that's simply not enough. You need to know the specific STRAIN, which is generally designated with a combination of letters and numbers after the genus and species. Do your own research! It's easy. Here are two ways to learn more about probiotics before you buy them: When you see a probiotic strain listed on a label, you can search the published scientific research by going to Pubmed and typing in the name of that specific strain. For example, if you go to Pubmed and search for Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1, which is found in Jarrow's fem dophilus, nearly 100 published studies come up. You can go to the Clinical Guide to Probiotics for information on brands, specific strains, recommended dosage, indication, and references for the studies that back up each health indication. The widespread misuse of the term “probiotics.” What happens when you swallow a probiotic? How does it get to where it needs to be? How a probiotic supplement may help to keep kids healthy. How a properly-labeled probiotic should have company contact information listed. Why we should limit exposure to antibiotics and antimicrobials.   Resources: International Scientific Association of Probiotics and Prebiotics Clinical Guide to Probiotics - You'll find information on brands, specific strains, recommended dosage, indication, and references for the studies to back up each health indication. I recommend Lily’s body care products (for women, men and children) for your use and as great gifts. I've mentioned Fitbit fitness tracker as a cool gift of health. This is the one I got Bill for his birthday. It is pretty slick.

KRAPULASTACK BY POPPAMIES SUOHEIMO +EGCG aka vihreäteeuute: Olennaista katekiinien määrä.
