If you've been told your labs look fine and something still feels off — this episode is going to explain why. And what you can actually do about it. Board-Certified Holistic Nutritionist and FDN Practitioner Katie Hardie joins the Game On Girlfriend® podcast to break down why conventional lab ranges were never designed to tell you whether you're performing optimally. They were designed to catch problems once things have already gone wrong. For women entrepreneurs who have been managing everything, pushing hard, and wondering why the afternoon crashes, the midsection weight, and the middle of the night wake-ups aren't going anywhere — this conversation is for you. Katie and I talk about what chronic stress is actually doing inside your body while you're still crushing it on the outside, why layering more exercise and restriction on a stressed body tends to backfire, and what a functional approach to your health actually looks like in practice. If you feel like crap, good luck running a successful business. This one's for the woman who's done waiting to take her health seriously.     WHAT YOU'LL LEARN Why "normal" lab results don't mean your body is functioning optimally — and what those ranges are actually based on What happens inside your body when you've been in fight-or-flight mode for years — and why it can feel like energy until it doesn't Why eating less and working out more can make things worse for a stressed body, not better How gut health connects directly to mood, sleep, focus, and anxiety — and why the root cause is often upstream from the symptoms The first step to take when your labs look fine but you still don't feel fine     RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE Fast Like a Girl by Dr. Mindy Pelz — https://amzn.to/3OE5p2b Good Energy by Casey Means — https://amzn.to/4u1AHz2     KATIE'S FREE GIFT FOR GAME ON GIRLFRIEND® LISTENERS Katie is offering a complimentary 45-minute consultation for anyone trying to figure out their next step. Every diet you've ever tried has failed you for one reason: it never told you when to eat. Your body runs on two energy systems. One burns sugar. The other burns fat. Most people never spend a single day in the second one. Around eight to ten hours without food, the switch flips. Ketones flood your brain. Hunger quiets. Mental clarity hits. Healing turns on. This is what fasting expert Dr. Mindy Pelz has been teaching for over 25 years, and what her book Fast Like a Girl made impossible to ignore. For women, timing is everything. Day 1 to 10, fast longer and lift heavier. Day 11 to 15, testosterone surges and libido climbs. Day 16 to 19 is for deeper fasts. After day 20, progesterone needs you to back off and rest. Fast like a man during the back half of your cycle and you'll tank the very hormones keeping you calm and regular. Underneath all of it sits the hormonal hierarchy. Oxytocin at the top. Cortisol below it. Then insulin. Then sex hormones. When you feel safe and connected, the whole stack works. When you don't, nothing else matters. Connection isn't optional for women. It's biology. Hey Habit Thrivers ... I can't believe we're at Episode #200!Truly, thank you for being here and sharing this space with me.It feels like such a special milestone, and it also feels like the perfect moment to talk about something we all need this time of year—movement that brings us back to life.In this episode, I'm sharing how we can gently shake off that heavy, sluggish winter energy and start to feel lighter, clearer, and more energized as we move through spring.During Kapha season, it's so normal to feel a little foggy or weighed down, so instead of slow, grounding practices, I'm inviting you to bring in movement that creates warmth, lifts your energy, and gets things flowing again. What does that look like for me right now? More standing yoga, gentle twists, slightly more invigorating breath, getting outside for a brisk walk, and easing back into strength training as we head toward more active days.I'm also sharing one simple practice to anchor your mornings...It's my modified version of Breath of Joy, and it's such a quick, powerful way to shift your mood, wake up your body, and clear out that heaviness.Simple, doable, and exactly what we need to welcome the energy of spring.

They get practical about what to do when you feel overwhelmed, and why small habits work better than “complete life overhaul” plans. This conversation is for anyone feeling stressed, tired, anxious, or stuck in a loop of quick fixes. You'll learn how movement, sleep hygiene, and tiny stress resets can improve mood fast, and why shifting from reactive care to proactive vitality is the real long game. Do you find yourself dragging through the afternoon, reaching for coffee or snacks just to stay awake? You're not alone. After 40, those 2 p.m. crashes become more common—and it has nothing to do with motivation. It's your hormones and nutrition working differently now, and midlife nutrition plays a much bigger role than it used to. In Episode 245: What To Eat After 40 To Boost Energy, I explain how hormone shifts, stress, and sleep all affect your energy. As estrogen trends down, your body becomes more sensitive to carbs. Add cortisol spikes from stress and poor sleep, and suddenly the same lunch that worked fine at 30 can leave you foggy and sluggish at 45. The solution isn't another latte—it's learning how to time and balance your meals so you get steady energy that lasts. You'll hear the stories of three women who represent different stages of the journey. Emma often skipped lunch and rode the day out on coffee, Lisa ate pretty healthy but leaned on bars and lattes, and Jasmine was highly active yet still crashed on heavy training days. Each of them discovered that small, realistic changes—like eating protein first, moving lunch earlier, or placing carbs around workouts—completely transformed their afternoons. This episode is not about dieting or giving up the foods you love. It's about simple midlife nutrition shifts that support your body after 40 and help you feel strong, steady, and focused. If you're ready to stop the afternoon crash and finally fuel your days with consistent energy, this episode is for you.

But get ready to learn the best way NEVER to say that statement again!  In this episode, I sit down with Ulrich Dempfle, the CEO of CAROL, to talk about why carving out even a few minutes for exercise in midlife can be a total game-changer.  Ulrich explains that the right movement is one of the most powerful things you can do to boost health span, energy, and quality sleep.  So we dive into the science of VO₂ max and mitochondrial function (which start to decline in our 30s), and how efficient workouts can slow that process dramatically.  For busy women in midlife, heart health and metabolic health are front and center, and CAROL's unique approach makes it possible to train smarter, not longer, for ultimate health.  Tune in here to learn all about CAROL, and discover how quick, intentional exercise can fit seamlessly into your hectic life WITHOUT sacrificing results! There are multiple problems with the FDA's one-size-fits-all protein recommendation. Being active or under high amounts of stress will increase your need for protein. Plus, protein fitness is crucial to thyroid function. If you want your thyroid to fuction optimally, examine your diet.

Health Is a Legacy Issue Your kids aren't just watching—they're modeling. Leading with health means passing on a generational inheritance of physical, emotional, and mental well-being. They'll follow your example more than your advice. 2. Self-Care Is Not Selfish Skipping your workout may feel noble in the moment, but long-term neglect robs your family of your energy, presence, and vitality. When you take care of yourself, you increase your capacity to take care of others. 3. You Don't Need Hours or Perfection You don't need five workouts a week or chicken and broccoli forever. Andrew's clients are busy dads and business owners who see results with three efficient sessions per week and a flexible, sustainable eating plan. 4. Daily Accountability Changes Everything Forget once-a-week check-ins. Andrew's clients get results through daily guidance and support. If you want real change, don't go it alone—build a system that keeps you on track every single day. 5. Lead at Home Like You Lead at Work Andrew's success isn't just in coaching—it's in how he shows up as a husband and father. He shares how servant leadership, spiritual alignment, and presence fuel his connection with his wife and kids every day.   LINKS & RESOURCES: Free copy of my Ditch The Dad Fat eBook: ditchthedadfatbook.gr8.com Free training on How Busy Dads Are Losing 10-35lbs & Reclaiming Their Health, Energy & Confidence In 6 Weeks Without Exercise or Extreme Diets: ditchthedadfat.com Ditch The Dad Fat Podcast: rebrand.ly/DTDFPodcast Dad Edge Podcast Website: https://www.thedadedge.com Episode Page: https://www.thedadedge.com/538 If this episode gave you fresh perspective or practical tips, please rate, follow, review, and share the podcast.
