In nature, vitamin E exists in a complex. If you're taking a vitamin E supplement that contains a-tocopherol, this can act as a pro-oxidant rather than an antioxidant, as it is only a fragment of the vitamin E complex. There are 2 types of vitamin E: tocopherols and tocotrienols. Tocotrienols are far more powerful and have the following potential benefits:•Anti-cancer effects•Potent anti-inflammatory•Increases lifespan in animal studies •Neuroprotective•Similar effects to statins on oxidative LDL •Supports cardiovascular health •Beneficial for workout recovery•Beneficial for age-related cognitive decline•Reverses damage from radiation•Scar tissue protection•Slows progression of liver cirrhosis Tocopherols do support and protect the cell membranes, and there is more research being done on tocopherols. They are also easier to find in many foods, such as green vegetables, seeds, nuts, olives, and olive oil. Tocotrienols are more difficult to find in food and may be easier to take as a supplement. They're found naturally in annatto and red palm oil.

Over 50% of the population consumes ultra-processed foods, putting them at risk for vitamin and nutrient deficiencies. Many people have a vitamin D deficiency, magnesium deficiency, zinc deficiency, potassium deficiency, or vitamin B1 deficiency and don't even know it! In this video, I'll share 21 important signs of vitamin deficiency. 1. Tingling in the toes, also known as peripheral neuropathy, can be caused by a vitamin B1 deficiency. Pork, liver, meat, eggs, and sunflower seeds are the best sources of vitamin B1. 2. Cracks in the corner of the mouth can be caused by a vitamin B2 deficiency. Consume liver, red meat, and eggs to increase vitamin B2 intake. 3. Thinning hair can be caused by a biotin deficiency. Without enough biotin, you can't make keratin, the protein needed to make hair. 4. Premature graying of the hair can be caused by a vitamin B9 deficiency. Folate (vitamin B9) repairs DNA, helps prevent cancer, and supports melanin production. 5. Mouth ulcers can be caused by a vitamin B12 deficiency. To increase your intake, consume more red meat, liver, and clams. 6. Deep pelvic bone pain can be caused by vitamin D deficiency. 7. Heavy menstrual bleeding can be caused by high estrogen levels or a vitamin K1 deficiency. Dark leafy green vegetables and liver are the best sources of vitamin K1. 8. Heavy menstrual cramping can be caused by calcium buildup due to a magnesium deficiency. Dark leafy green vegetables and pumpkin seeds are the best sources of magnesium. 9. Fibroids can be caused by too much estrogen, but vitamin D can help keep them in check. 10. Eye twitching, also known as tetany, can be caused by a magnesium deficiency. 11. Heart pounding can be caused by a potassium deficiency. You need 4700 mg of potassium per day. 12. Chronic cough can be caused by a calcium deficiency. Calcium lactate is the best calcium supplement. 13. Ice cravings can be caused by iron deficiency. Try increasing your intake of red meat or liver before resorting to supplements. 14. Low libido can be caused by a zinc deficiency. Shellfish, especially oysters, and red meat are the best sources of zinc. 15. Hearing loss can be caused by a vitamin B12 deficiency. 16. Fibrocystic breasts can be caused by excess estrogen, which may result from low iodine. To increase iodine intake, consume sea kelp, seaweed, and shellfish. 17. Dry, flaky skin is a classic sign of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency. For this problem, consume high-quality cod liver oil or fish oil. 18. Muscle weakness can be caused by a vitamin E deficiency. Tocotrienols may help. 19. Fatty liver—choline deficiency can cause a fatty liver. Egg yolk and liver are the best sources of choline. 20. Cold sores can be caused by a virus, but increasing lysine can help put the virus in remission. 21. High lipids can be regulated with the help of niacin (vitamin B3).

Dr. Laura Capina, a seasoned acupuncturist and health enthusiast, has eagerly anticipated the opportunity to share her insights on a podcast for three years. Growing up in Latvia, she was immersed in a culture that embraced natural remedies for healing.  This upbringing laid the foundation for her lifelong interest in health and wellness. Upon moving to the United States, she observed alarming rates of obesity and allergies, which further ignited her curiosity about the stark health differences between the two countries. A transformative trip to India played a pivotal role in Dr. Capina's journey. During this trip, she immersed herself in yoga, Asian philosophy, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Chinese medicine. These experiences profoundly influenced her approach to health and healing. For nearly two decades, she has practiced acupuncture, incorporating cupping, electroacupuncture, and herbal medicine into her treatments. The Importance of Essential Nutrients Faced with an overwhelming number of herbs and remedies, Dr. Capina focused on identifying the most powerful superfoods and essential substances that promote optimal health. Guided by her mentors, she learned to prioritize foundational nutrients that are crucial for bodily functions. She advocates for nourishing the body with essential nutrients such as healthy fats, minerals, iodine, and digestive enzymes. Dr. Capina is a staunch opponent of synthetic vitamins and enriched foods, citing their potential harm. She criticizes products with synthetic additives, even if they appear to be organic and healthy. Instead, she emphasizes the importance of obtaining nutrients from natural sources, particularly Omega-3 fatty acids, which are vital for brain, eye, and cell membrane health.  Omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA, play a critical role in maintaining cellular health and facilitating communication within the body. Dr. Capina notes the low conversion rate of plant-sourced Omega-3 (ALA) to DHA and EPA, underscoring the need to obtain these nutrients directly from fish or algae. She highlights the historical impact of Omega-3 consumption on human brain development and draws an interesting parallel between the human nervous system and that of dolphins. Innovative Health Solutions Sea salt and algae are highlighted as rich sources of beneficial substances, including EPA, DHA, minerals, and iodine. Algae, in particular, is significant as it is considered the seed of life on the planet, forming the basis of the food chain. The purity and extraction methods of algae oil are crucial, and Dr. Capina ensures that high-quality algae oil from Canada is used in her products. Vitamin E is another essential nutrient that Dr. Capina champions. It is the only antioxidant that protects fats from oxidation, making it crucial for anti-aging and protecting against free radicals.  She warns against synthetic vitamin E, recommending natural forms that include eight different types, with delta tocotrienol being the most powerful. The discovery of tocotrienols from the annatto plant by Dr. Tan revolutionized the understanding of vitamin E's benefits. Tocotrienols, particularly the delta and gamma forms, offer superior protection to cell membranes compared to tocopherols. Dr. Capina's innovative product combines algae oil with tocotrienols, providing extensive health benefits such as lowering cholesterol, improving cardiovascular health, and reducing inflammation. The formulation includes sprouted organic almond butter and MCT oil, enhancing absorption and effectiveness. Proper absorption of these oils is facilitated by the product's micelle formulation, which makes the oils water-soluble. While the product is safe for most individuals, Dr. Capina advises those on blood thinners or with severely compromised liver and gallbladder function to consult a doctor. Overall, her product offers foundational nutritional benefits, improving health and aiding in the detoxification and nourishment of the body. In this podcast, you will learn about: The critical role of Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, in maintaining brain, eye, and cell membrane health for overall wellness. Differences between synthetic and natural vitamins, highlighting potential health impacts and the benefits of obtaining nutrients from natural sources. The extensive health benefits of algae oil and tocotrienols, including improved cardiovascular health, lowered cholesterol, and reduced inflammation. Dr. Capina's holistic health approach, integrating yoga, Asian philosophy, and traditional Chinese medicine for optimal health and wellness. The importance of sourcing essential nutrients from natural, high-quality ingredients to ensure proper absorption and maximize health benefits. And much more. Did you know that oxidation is a major player in many chronic health issues? Now, imagine a world where a simple supplement could revolutionize your bone health and protect you from chronic conditions. Intrigued? You should be!   In this episode, we explore the world of vitamin E, specifically focusing on the lesser-known annatto tocotrienols. The Annatto plant is valued as a rich source of tocotrienols and a novel, newly-discovered nutraceutical: geranylgeraniol (GG). Dr. Barrie Tan, a Ph.D. biochemist who discovered GG, and Dr. David Brady, former director of the Human Nutrition Institute at the University of Bridgeport and author of numerous books and scientific papers, join us to discuss the roles of tocotrienols and GG in human health. Traditional forms of vitamin E supplements—the tocopherols—are being superseded by tocotrienols as more therapeutic forms of vitamin E. Tocotrienols have shown promise in oncology, for supporting liver health, and for protecting cell membranes as potent fat-soluble antioxidants. GG is ubiquitous as a precursor of diverse compounds including CoQ10, active vitamin K, sex steroids, and proteins. It is useful as a general preventive supplement as well as for specific applications like offsetting CoQ10 depletion in statin users, in metabolic syndrome, and for staving off sarcopenia. Drs. Brady and Tan share their experience in dosing Annatto products, which come in a variety of iterations, alone or teamed with other supplements.

Best Nutrients to Remove Plaque from Arteries

In this video, I'm going to share what you can do to help remove plaque from your arteries naturally. Plaque is made of cholesterol, calcium, and protein. These 3 ingredients form a band-aid if you have inflammation or other issues on the inside of your artery. There are 2 types of plaque: soft plaque (unstable, dangerous) and hard plaque (calcified, stable, less dangerous). Soft plaque is 4 times as common as calcified plaque! A CAC test gives you a score of how much plaque you have in your arteries. This test primarily detects calcified plaque, so the score usually won't reflect soft plaque. The CAC paradox is a phenomenon that occurs after you clean up your diet and get healthy, but your CAC score rises. This doesn't mean your plaque is getting worse. It means that some of your soft plaque has stabilized and become hard plaque. Soft plaque is associated with glycation and more oxidation of the LDL. There are 2 types of LDL: small-dense pathogenic LDL and large-buoyant non-pathogenic LDL. Myeloperoxidase and Lp-PLA2 both signify soft plaque on a blood test. An ultrasound can also detect soft plaque. Higher HDL can help clean up pathogenic bad LDL. You also want to keep your triglycerides low. High triglycerides can signify that your diet is too high in carbs. You may want to request to test your lipoprotein insulin resistance. This factor is associated with cardiovascular atherosclerosis more than any other. Here's how to determine whether you have small dense LDL or large buoyant LDL. Divide the LDL by ApoB—the part of the lipoprotein that indicates the number of particles. You want your result to be greater than 1.2. This indicates large buoyant LDL. The following nutrients may help remove arterial plaque buildup naturally: 1. Pycnogenol–150 mg 2. Gotu Kola–450 mg 3. Vitamin K2–Life Extension Mega K2 4. Nattokinase 5. Niacin Vitamin K2 is the most potent inhibitor of vascular calcification. Tocotrienols, berberine, aged garlic, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin D also help to clean out plaque naturally. She realized she had been struggling with health issues as she went through college and continued to experience more. Eventually, she was also diagnosed with skin cancer.     Through her recovery journey, she found her passion for being a personal trainer.     The sun is not the cause of skin cancer. Instead, it is what is happening underneath the skin. [04:50] When Nothing Seems to Work, Think Mold!     Jenn discussed how her family was residing around the Northern California farm fields where substantial power lines and other aspects that possibly have radiation affected her health.     After about two years of being healthy and feeling great, Jenn's health started deteriorating again due to her mold exposure.     If pets have similar symptoms of mold exposure, such as weight loss, it signifies unhealthy environmental changes.      Mold exposure causes estrogen elevations, resulting in weight gain, breast tenderness, and acne.     Exercise alone will not get you well in this day and age. [26:26] The Body's Reaction to Stress     When your body is experiencing a load of stress, you have to redefine what stress is.     Hormesis is staying in this hormetic feeling, and a slight stress you adapt to is excellent. But the body will not adjust to a strenuous workout if your stress bucket is filled with different kinds of stress.     Devices such as oura rings are great tools for creating consciousness and awareness of what is happening to our bodies.  [37:25] The Root Cause of Acid Reflux & How to Get Rid of It!     The most common correlation with acid reflux is an H. pylori bacteria overgrowth.     Another common correlation with acid reflux is eating inflammatory foods like gluten and dairy or grains.     People with a stressful lifestyle tend to have H. pylori bacteria.     Keratin's purpose is to capture this oxygen free radical and protect against oxidative damage so the leaf is not destroyed. [43:51] What is the Most Accurate Test for H. pylori?     As there are different lifestyles, there are also corresponding tests for testing H. pylori, such as stool samples and GI map tests.     Most Vitamin Es are 95% Tocopherol, and 5% will be Tocotrienols. [47:12] The Best Tips For Supporting Liver Health     The liver helps to filter things out from getting into the gut, such as toxins and other stuff.     Since World War II, over 150,000 toxins have been introduced into our environment. Research shows us that our body encounters two pounds of toxins daily.     Because humans live longer lifespans than animals and organisms, the evolution of changes in the body takes longer.     Eat organic, minimize toxic exposure from food, manage skincare products, and keep environmental surroundings clean. In this video, we're going to talk about the foods to eat and avoid for optimal liver health. The liver removes toxins from the body, turning them into harmless water-soluble particles. The liver can have three main problems affecting its function: a fatty liver, inflammation of the liver, and scar tissue or cirrhosis of the liver. Among many other things, the liver helps: •Turn ammonia into urea •Buffer/regulate hormones •Convert thyroid hormone T4 to T3 •Support growth hormone and IGF-1 •Activate vitamin D •Produce bile •Store glycogen •Support immune function Alcohol and excessive sugar intake negatively affect your liver function, as well as the following: 1. Soy protein isolates 2. Seed oils 3. High-fructose corn syrup 4. Refined starches 5. Glucose syrup Ultra-processed foods are very damaging to the liver. Keep your liver healthy by eating whole foods and avoiding GMO foods, heavily processed foods, and synthetic ingredients. Incorporate the following foods into your diet to support the health and function of your liver: 1. Healthy fats (olive oil, MCT oil, grass-fed butter) 2. Fatty fish (wild-caught) 3. Organic pasture-raised eggs 4. Leafy green vegetables 5. Cruciferous vegetables 6. Probiotic foods 7. Grass-fed meat There are two incredible supplements that can help reverse liver damage. Tocotrienols are a type of vitamin E that provides excellent support for your liver. Tudca is a type of bile salt that can help prevent the build-up of bile. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr Barrie Tan. He is hailed as a trailblazer, and the world's foremost expert on vitamin E. Dr Tan is credited with discovering a form of vitamin E called tocotrienol in the three major sources – Palm, Rice, and Annatto. Dr Barrie, described as a scientific pioneer, has a simple mission: improve the everyday health of people's lives through the rigorous application of DeltaGold® – the first-ever tocopherol-free tocotrienol product extracted from annatto and the most potent form of vitamin E in existence today. He is the founder and chief scientist at American River Nutrition and spent ten years as a chemistry and food science/nutrition professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In this episode, Dr Barrie speaks about why somebody dedicates their life to certain research, and the truth about Vitamin E. Dr Barrie explains what happens when vegetable oils enter the cells. Dr Barrie delves into the types of fats in the cell wall and their percentages. Listen in as we talk about vitamin E, vegetable oils, antioxidants, Tocotrienols, and cell wall fats. They have a lot of double bonds, and they're very unstable. DHA and EPA are even more unsaturated than vegetables. [04:50] What Happens When Vegetable Oil Enters The Cell Wall of Your 38 Trillion Cells?  Lipoprotein particle has one or two proteins that carry the oil, travels through the bloodstream, and eventually ends up under trillions of cells.  About 80% of the cell wall is fat, a rudimentary and primitive way of understanding aging.  Greater than 90% of all the antioxidants on the cell wall are vitamin E molecules, tocotrienol. Less than 10% of them are Co-Q 10, which your body makes, Lycopene and Beta-keratin.  Four Major Food Groups are Fat, Protein, Carbohydrate, and Nucleic Acid. [12:27] Watch Out! Keep Your Body Healthy From Fats and Cholesterol Vast amounts of fatty acid are not healthy for the body. The cholesterol is made by our body and is in the cell to give flexibility to the cell, so it is not too rigid or stiff. One in every 10,000 oxygen becomes radicalized. It had two very active electrons under oxygen, with a high potential energy. [22:28]  Increase Your Knowledge Of Various Antioxidants Facts Worth Knowing The body makes very few endogenous antioxidants, including Co-Q 10, Glutathione, and Estrogen.  Plants have tens of thousands of antioxidants; the most common ones the plant makes are polyphenols.  Supplemental Co-Q 10 is hard to absorb by the body and will only stay in the blood.  Keratin's purpose is to capture this oxygen free radical and protect against oxidative damage, so the leaf is not destroyed. [37:28] What Are The Various Types of Vitamin E You Must Look Out For?  Tocopherol and Tocotrienol are the two major forms of Vitamin E. Most Vitamin Es are 95% Tocopherol, and 5% will be Tocotrienols. Rice, palm oil, and the annatto plant are common products containing Tocotrienols. Plants produce keratin to preserve foliage colour. [42:12] Learn About The Benefits And Beauty That The Annatto Plant Offers The annatto plant doesn't contain tocopherol, which hinders the function of tocotrienol. It has 90% delta-tocotrienol and 10% gamma-tocotrienol. Annatto produces tocotrienol to preserve the colour of the plant longer. Protecting the colour is critical for the plant to attract birds to swallow its seed and help maintain the lifecycle. AND MUCH MORE! The Root Cause Medicine Podcast is a weekly one-on-one conversation with renowned medical experts, specialists, and pioneers who are influencing the way we look at our health and wellbeing. This week we're joined by Dr. Barrie Tan, Founder and Chief Scientist of American River Nutrition. In this episode, Dr. Barrie Tan educates us on the benefits and misconceptions of vitamin E, specifically tocotrienols. Dr. Barrie Tan is an internationally renowned expert in the field of Vitamin E, with over twenty years of experience in identifying primary sources of plant-based tocotrienols such as rice, palm, and annatto. His extensive research has been focused on the annatto plant, considered the most potent source of tocotrienol. As the editor of two prestigious books on tocotrienol and the founder of the International Tocotrienol Conference, Dr. Tan has earned the title of "Tocotrienol King." He has also served as the Chief Scientific Officer and Scientific Board Member for several multinational organizations. Throughout his career, Dr. Tan has collaborated with esteemed institutions, including the US Armed Forces and a Prince of Thailand. His contribution to the field of Vitamin E has been invaluable, and his expertise has been sought after by many. Key Takeaways: A short history of vitamin E Vitamin E, specifically alpha-tocopherol, was discovered about 100 years ago, being known as a birth vitamin because it can bring a fetus to full term. However, the vitamin's reputation as an antioxidant caused it to be overhyped in the first years after its discovery. In the nineties, a big study was done at Harvard and the VA school, which found that synthetic alpha-tocopherol, the most common form of vitamin E, did not do anything at best, and may cause breast and prostate cancer at worst. Tocotrienols: a powerful form of vitamin E Dr. Barrie Tan stresses that synthetic alpha-tocopherol is a counterfeit version of vitamin E and that it's crucial to consider other natural forms of vitamin E, such as tocotrienols. Studies have shown that tocotrienols offer numerous health benefits and are even more effective than the more commonly known form of vitamin E, tocopherol, in treating chronic conditions and cancer. However, Dr. Tan points out that alpha-tocopherol can interfere with the functions of tocotrienol when present together. Therefore, he advises against taking alpha-tocopherol supplements, except in cases of prenatal care for expectant mothers. This highlights the importance of understanding the different forms of vitamin E and using them correctly to optimize their benefits. Tocotrienols benefits Dr. Tan sheds light on the numerous health benefits of tocotrienol, which is effective in mitigating chronic conditions, reducing inflammation, treating hypercholesterolemia, and improving lipid levels. Additionally, studies suggest that tocotrienol may possess anti-cancer properties. Notably, tocotrienols have demonstrated promising results in pre-diabetic patients by moderately reducing both sugar and lipid levels. This week's podcast episode features Dr. Barrie Tan – a world renowned expert in the chemical and biochemical world, known for his discovery of the most potent form of Vitamin E, tocotrienol! A little background on Vitamin E: Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin (absorbed with dietary fats and stored in fatty tissue and the liver) and is made up of 8 related molecules, collectively grouped together as Vitamin E. The mechanism of Vitamin E acts as an important antioxidant to help protect our cells from free-radical damage. As many forms of Vitamin E exist, our focus today is tocotrienol, and shouldn't be confused with alpha-tocopherol, the most common form of Vitamin E you see on the back of most vitamin bottles. Because tocotrienols are a (fairly) recent scientific discovery, prior studies for Vitamin E supplementation used alpha-tocopherol- which turned out to have some unfortunate downsides for cardiac and cancer research. However, the discovery of pure tocotrienol from annatto plants have continuously made an impact on Vitamin E and antioxidant research. Some health benefits of supplementing with tocotrienol are reduction of fat in the liver as well as overall reduction in inflammatory biomarkers, as well as improvement of bone health, cardiovascular health, insulin sensitivity, brain health, and so much more! Bottom line: the type of Vitamin E you are supplementing with matters! It's nearly impossible to get adequate antioxidant protection from diet alone. Watch our interview here! Dr. Barrie Tan Dr. Barrie Tan is a Ph.D. in chemistry and biochemistry. Dr. Tan is considered one of the world's foremost experts on Vitamin E. Vitamin E is not regarded as so sexy or trendy. But it has 8 family members, 4 that are tocopherols and 4 that are tocotrienols. And boy, has Dr. Tan's many decades of research unveiled the healing aspect of tocotrienols. And the healing aspect of an Amazon plant, the annatto plant, that contains 100% tocotrienols. The Beginning The story all starts with the Amazonian annatto plant (Bixa Orellana) that was discovered by Francesco de Orellana (in the 1550s) and continues in the 1700s when the British called it the ‘lipstick plant' to today where Estee Lauder uses it in their lip products. The red oil from the annatto seed is used as a natural coloring in cheeses like cheddar, and is found in other foods like ice cream, meats, crackers, salad dressing, tortilla chips, even mac and cheese but.. it even helps fight cancer. One of the successful human trials that Dr. Tan has done is on ovarian cancer. In this show you will learn the dosage and the delivery mode of annatto-E. And why perhaps you might even consider it as an addition to your daily nutraceuticals. Check it out! I am adding this to my dailies! Health Mysteries Solved

The Investigation As a clinical nutritionist, many people email me asking me what I eat to stay healthy. They want to know how I stay gluten and dairy-free without falling off the wagon and how I keep things interesting with meal ideas plus all about which supplements I take.  I’ve gone through my share of health challenges (and had a health mystery or two as well) and had to get to the root of my problems to regain my health. My diet has been a big part of what put me on the path to where I am today which is being able to thrive after all those struggles. So, in this week’s episode, I’m revealing some of the things I eat as well as some foods and brands I have found that can make eating a clean diet delicious and fun. I guess you could say I’m flipping the investigation around to me.    Starting My Day One of the things I try to do each day is a short, intermittent fast. So, I usually don’t have food in the morning until 12 hours has passed since I ate the night before. One of my favorite ways to start my day is a peach smoothie (see recipe below) that includes Whole Body Collagen, and maybe a gluten-free Paleo Waffle from Birch Benders with some almond butter.  My son Jake loves oatmeal muffins (see recipe below) in the morning and sometimes I’ll enjoy one or two myself. When I do, I like to add some fat and protein to make sure to balance my blood sugar. This might be a collagen protein drink with flavoured protein by Paleo Pro or Pea protein.  On other days, I might make protein pancakes (see recipe below), some eggs with veggies or baked sweet potato slices.    Lunch Time (on a Tight Timeline) My lunches tend to be quick. A lot of time I have a salad (I cut up the veggies ahead of time). I usually include a protein like chicken, turkey, shrimp, or salmon (make sure they’re clean and don’t contain nitrates). I also like to include a carb like lentils, black beans or kidney beans that I’ve made in the Instapot ahead of time once a week. You can use canned beans (make sure they are BPA free cans) but the pressure cooker destroys lectins (those can be an issue for those who have autoimmune diseases) so that is why I love using the pressure cooker. If you have to buy canned beans, Eden Foods  actually pressure-cooks their beans before canning them so you get the lectin-reduced benefit with them.  Sometimes, I’ll do a sweet potato for the carb or I also like the Siete Tortillas which come in a variety of flavors and are actually grain-free. They have ones made with cassava flour, almond flour, cashew flour and chickpeas, very yummy! Simple Kneads Bread is also a very tasty gluten free bread option (they’re also yeast free) that is clean and delicious. It does contain grains but if you are ok with grains, its one of the best gluten free breads that I have found recently.   Snack Time I like coconut yogurt because it’s dairy free and I like the So Delicious brand, specifically the unsweetened vanilla which I mix with some Paleonola Granola.  Or, I might do fruit and nuts, hummus and veggies, or a protein drink similar to my breakfast smoothie.    Dinner  I like to balance my plate with a protein, a veggie and a starch. An example is to have baked chicken (I do the whole chicken early in the week so I have chicken for lunch the next day) or add a homemade BBQ sauce (see recipe below).   Another favorite in our house is tacos. We saute grass-fed beef or turkey and we love to use the Seite tacos (they have hard and soft shells) because they’re super clean. We load up the tacos with veggies.  We also like to grill wild-caught shrimp and put it over zucchini noodles in a vegan pesto sauce from Gotham. Or, we might have beef stew, turkey thighs or burgers with veggies.    What I Drink A lot of people want to know about my water. I don’t recommend tap water. We have filtered water but because we are on a well and the house didn’t have good filtration before we moved in, I worry about what is in the pipes and so we actually subscribe to Mountain Valley Springs which is a water service that delivers clean water in glass jugs.  Its a great option if you are looking for delivery and trying to avoid plastic bottles which I really recommend. For others, I recommend a 7-stage reverse osmosis water filter if you are able to install it under your sink. If you live in an apartment or are not able to install under the sink, a great counter top option for reverse osmosis is AquaTru.    My Supplements Regimen Over the years, I have taken a variety of supplements based on what my tests indicated I needed. My supplement regimen is always changing (and it did while I was pregnant for sure).  Most of the time, I take fish oils - specifically, OmegAvail Ultra from Designs for Health and I also take two krill oil gel caps called XanthOmega from Designs for Health.  Whenever I do a hair test, I am always low on magnesium so I also take the Magnesium Buffered Chelate from Designs for Health. Lately, I’ve also been taking a lot of extra vitamin C and I rotate between the Stellar C  and the C+ BioFizz (both from Designs for Health) to support my immune system as well as Zinc a couple of times a week. At bedtime (well away from when I take my other vitamins), I also take some Tocotrienols and Glutathione to balance my immune system (which is important for me because I have Hashimoto’s).   In addition, I take a vitamin D (dose depends on my lab tests), probiotics (I rotate between the Ortho 100, Ortho-Biotic, and ProBioMed.  And finally, I take pancreatic enzymes and Betaine when I have a meal that's a little bit bigger or contains a little more animal protein.    Final Thoughts I hope this episode helps you discover some new food choices and motivates you to adopt or keep up a clean diet. By the way, I don’t have affiliations with any of these brands. Researcher, trailblazer and the world’s foremost expert on an underlooked and often ignored vitamin -- vitamin E -- Dr. Barrie Tan is credited with discovering a form of vitamin E called tocotrienol in three major sources: Palm, Rice, and Annatto, a tropical plant that grows in South America that is the richest known source of tocotrienols. More than 100 studies and clinical trials have shown the surprising benefits of tocotrienols for heart, brain, liver, lung, bone, and cellular health, all without any known side effects. Tocotrienols have been studied in human cancer clinical trials and were shown to almost DOUBLE overall life expectancy when taken with standard therapy. Join me on the cutting edge of science and learn how this discovery could lead to better health and extended longevity for us all. What an engaging and passionate scientist - and he's a proper gentleman to boot! I had a great time chatting to Dr. Barrie Tan late last year, on the fascinating science behind Vitamin E. He has dedicated decades of his life to researching it, and it shows. I for one did not realize that the nutritional orthodoxy had screwed up in properly understanding how it works in the physiology (it's not just "cholesterol" that they got badly wrong). Vitamin E actually has many forms - take the wrong ones and it can backfire on you. Focus on the right ones, and will be on your way to enhanced health (along with diet and exercise of course). Most of all enjoy our chat - I know that I certainly did! Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions:  Simon: Hi Stephen. Thanks so much for the amazing service you provide to us all! I discovered you a couple of months ago and have been binge-listening and reading you book ever since. My wife and I have blastocystis and my wife also has dientaboeba. Whilst I am doing the parasite protocol and others, my wife is doing two courses of Paromomycin (as she has a limited amount of time and wants the most effective result). Putting aside the question of whether she is making the right decision (I would prefer she avoided antibiotics), I am hoping to add to minimise the negative effects whilst maxamizing the effectiveness of her treatment. I was wondering: a) whether the a biofilm disruptor would assist with treating blasto with antibiotics, and if so should she take before or during treatment? b) would the CBO protocol approach to probiotics be appropriate after antibiotics? I.e populate with saccharomyces boulardii before/during/one month after; then acidophilus bifidus; then a broad spectrum? Note she wont do the CBO protocol as we will be trying for a baby shortly after the antibiotics. I am also feeding us a diet rich in antiparasitics (clove, cinnamon, garlic, pumpkin seeds) and have suggested she do the 7-14 day detox before treatment. I'd love your thoughts on the above and any related issues. Thanks so much and ayubowan! Cheryl: Hi Dr. Cabral, I am on week 2 day 3 of your 21 detox. I have lost 12 pounds to date- simply amazing!!! I waited too long between meals (4 hours). 2 times I noticed a sweet taste in my teeth just before my meal. Once I eat it goes away. What is the reason for the sweet taste??? Just note my brain fog melted away, I have had a surge of energy since week one day 3. So I have been very active not excercising but cleaning and moving-I surpassed my 10k steps on the detox!!!!. I am looking forward to taking your courses and my future lab tests. Much gratitude on my journey towards wellness.Cheryl Ryan: Hello Dr. Cabral, thanks for taking the time to answer questions! I have listened to many of your podcasts regarding histamines. To keep things short, I just wanted to know the difference between taking a supplement like Histpro and a supplement containing diamine oxidase? I realize rebalancing the gut, removing any overgrowth, etc is working more towards figuring out the root cause. But my question is for relief in the short term while you are healing. I realize the Histpro has multiple good componenets like quercetin, vitamin C, etc. Just wanted to know what would be stronger or more beneficial in short term, of course assuming you are eating a lower histamine diet and the whole lifestyle approach. Thanks, Ryan Cara: Hi Dr. Cabral! After 23 years of wearing contacts, I'm going in for Lasik in January. It took me a long time to come to this decision, but now the technology is amazing and we have an exceptional doctor here in So Cal. Prior to the procedure, they have you take an eye supplement as well as a fish oil. I asked the amounts of DHA/EPA/Omega 3's required and the reply was that their supplement has "DHA Omega-3 at least 800mg and total Omega-3’s 2000mg." It looks like EN's fish oil surpasses that requirement with a total of 2.6g of total Omegas. Do you have an eye supplement that you would recommend with the lutein and zeaxanthin? Cara: Hi Dr. Cabral, Did you catch Ben Greenfields interview of Dr. Tan and his research on Vitamin E? He claims that tocopherols are toxic and that tocotrienols are the form of Vitamin E that is most beneficial? It was a very interesting podcast and I'm Curious your thoughts on this. Thank you! Maurice: Hello Dr. Cabral, I'm 29 and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis approximately one year ago. I decided to decline conventional treatment after being inspired by my brother Kevin, who is also an IHP 1&2. Since, I've conducted quite some research and have nearly perfected my diet, consisting of very low amount of saturated fat and processed foods, a regular Omega 3 intake, and mainly plant based meals (except for one weekly cheat meal). I work out regularly, do the sauna, and get my daily D3. I listen to your podcast regularly and find your advice very beneficial! I'm currently on the 7-Day Detox and am doing the CBO protocol right after Thanksgiving. I do plan on having the labs done, BUT the way my bank account is set up...Overall I feel good, but am deathly scared to relapse again and the thought of deteriorating. Do you have any additional lifestyle/diet suggestions? Also, is Iherrmitte's Sign (the brief, intense tingling sensations shooting down my spine when I tilt my head) reversible? Lastly, I recently heard of the angioplasty aka liberation therapy for the Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI) treatment, which has been shown to provide drastic improvements to MS patients. What is your knowledge and take on it?Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and your continuous inspiration! You are what you eat, right? So if you want to be strong eat the strong foods. If you want to prevent disease, impact aging, and improve your mental focus, clarity, and mood, eat superfoods! What are superfoods anyway? Melissa Lambson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Energy Worker, and promoter of holistic health and nutrition. Melissa has always believed that what we put in our body influences our brain chemistry. She became really passionate about this when her 6 year old son was diagnosed with Autism. As a mother she was looking for anything she could to help her son improve his physical and mental state. She tried diet modification, pills, and behavioral interventions. Melissa's quest led her to learn about the inflammation of the brain effected by poor nutrition. She discovered that our soil is depleted and our food doesn't have all the nutrients we need. Sometimes our bodies can't absorb what we do eat. Melissa was introduced by her nurse practitioner to something new. A superfood supplement with power foods like wild Alaskan blueberry, Ashawagnda, Wild Alaskan salmon, Kale, Spinach, and many other foods packed with nutrients that penetrate the blood brain barrier and reduce inflammation. When Melissa started her son on this liquid superfood she noticed a stark difference in his behavior and ability to connect to others. Melissa tried it out for her acid reflux and after 7 year was able to sing again. Melissa shares with us how stress impacts the body and how superfoods can boost the body with the vitamins and minerals we need. She will share with us the characteristics of fish oil, vitamin E, and tocotrienols that help people have clarity of mind, improved mood, and overall improved quality of life. Listen as Melissa explains how superfoods help with healing trauma in the brain, addictions, memory loss, and other brain based issues. Melissa will give us some "food for thought" and what you hear may change your life and health for good.

At the recent , I ran into intriguing research from Dr. Barrie Tan, a scientist with a Ph.D in Chemistry and Biochemistry. For the last 35 years, Barrie has immersed himself in the world of Vitamin E (particularly from ) and is considered one of the world’s foremost experts credited with discovering a molecule called "tocotrienol" from three major natural sources: -Palm: from his native Malaysia... -Rice: at the invitation of the Prince of Thailand... -Annatto: chance finding while in Ecuador searching for lutein... It turned out that palm and rice lacked the potency as they contain too much tocopherol, so Barrie moved his research interest away briefly from tocotrienol, when by serendipity he found the best-in-class tocotrienol in the annatto plant from the Amazon. Since then, Barrie’s relationship with annatto has spanned 20 years. Barrie has worked with the US Armed Forces on using tocotrienol on “radiation countermeasures” and pioneered the science behind the annatto working with the leading scientists in the world to prove the multiple benefits of tocotrienol. Meanwhile, everyone (lay folk and nutritionist) is languishing with the lack-luster non-performing tocopherol, which Barrie calls the“wrong way to E.” Most tocopherol trials failed and did not deliver. But in multiple clinical trials spanning chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteopenia, and inflammation, tocotrienol from annatto has proven clinical benefits. Barrie is currently working on multiple cancer trials after preliminary success with end-stage patients. This is because not all forms of Vitamin E are created equal... ...Vitamin E is not a single nutrient, but rather a complex made up of 8 distinct compounds: 4 tocopherols and 4 tocotrienols. These components have slightly different chemical structures, and these differences impart unique properties that influence their biochemical functions and their effects in the body. Most conventional supplements are typically rich in tocopherols—alpha-tocopherol, in particular—but the tocotrienol fractions have unique effects across a variety of tissues that make them desirable to supplement on their own, without tocopherols. Tocotrienols, especially delta-tocotrienol as sourced from the annatto plant (bixa orellana), have shown impressive effects in supporting overall health. Tocotrienols are associated with significantly positive effects on cardiovascular health, particularly with regard to influencing healthy cholesterol and triglyceride levels. They may also be beneficial for a healthy inflammatory response, an important asset since chronic inflammation is a factor in damage to the cardiovascular system. Having a positive influence on lipids (fats in the blood), tocotrienols may be beneficial for those with a buildup of fat in the liver, as well as those who need help managing blood sugar and insulin levels. Clinical research also suggests tocotrienols may be a valuable addition to the supplement regimens of those who need nutritional support for strong, healthy bones. Here is a recent remark of : “The health benefits realized by annatto tocotrienol go beyond that of any other nutrient I know. It’s the one supplement I would want with me if I were stranded on a desert island! This is a change for me as after 35 years in this industry, my top desert island supplements have switched between magnesium and fish oil and now it stands firmly as annatto tocotrienol alone. A minimum of 150 mg per day is a must for every adult alive.” Apart from tocotrienol, Barrie discovered and has extracted the first-in-class geranylgeraniol (GG), also from the annatto plant. GG has benefits as 1) testosterone and progesterone booster; 2) pain alleviation and; 3) sarcopenia, myopathy and muscle building from this endogenous nutrient. GG is the last common step between plant and mammal (has huge implications), and may possibly be the last frontier in anti-aging nutrients. Here are Dr. Tan’s two anti-aging bottom-line nutrients: tocotrienol (exogenous) will work from outside-in, and geranylgeraniol (endogenous) will work from inside-out. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Dr. Tan discovered Annatto and became interested in Vitamin E...9:05 Began while an assistant prof at U of Mass in Amherst Palm oil in his native Malaysia is orange; is bleached out when it's processed Received grant from Malaysian government to research Research process on palm oil: Remove all fats and oil Remove all kerosene colors (orange) 25% of what was left was alpha-tocopherol, the most common variant of Vitamin E Remainder was tocotrienol Led to research on different forms of lung cancer (stopped soon after) Prince of Thailand hired him to research Buddhists don't like anything mitochondrial related Wanted plant-derived, not animal-derived research Most beneficial results came from rice bran oil (contained tocotrienol) Research funding slowed due to a slow economy in 1987 Needed a break in 1998 from studying tocotrienol; this led to studying treating macular degeneration Vitamin E is made up 8 different compounds 4 of them are tocopherols; 4 are tocotrienols The most common are tocopherols, particularly alpha-tocopherols Tocotrienols are less common, and is the locus of Dr. Tan's research Research on the efficacy of Vitamin E as it pertains to exercise was primarily done on tocopherols Vitamin E was discovered in 1922 at Berkeley Was extracted from spinach Assisted in bringing fetus to full-term Alpha-tocopherol is the "currency" of Vitamin E; all other strains (delta, gamma tocopherol) is converted into alpha during processing Even "all-natural" alpha-tocopherol is partly synthetic How to undo the damage from an alpha-tocopherol heavy supplement: Best thing is to stop taking alpha-tocopherol supplement Ideal intake of alpha-tocopherol is 15 mg per day, derived from natural foods If you didn't get all that, get this... A Vitamin E supplement is not derived from what we would find in nature. It is only a few strands of tocopherol, mostly alpha-tocopherol. The original use of alpha-tocopherol has long outlived its purpose. Dr. Tan advocates for the other strands, particularly tocotrienols for humans to derive the full benefits of Vitamin E. -The major differences between alpha-tocopherols and tocotrienols...30:55 Tri = 3; E = double bond Tocopherol has a head with an OH group; tail is saturated Tocotrienol tail has 3 double bonds, so it is unsaturated; head is smaller than tocopherol is the low-hanging fruit for our body to be oxidized  is a powerful singlet antioxidant (efficacious in an environment that is oxygen-deficient) >90% of antioxidants in the phospholipid cells are Vitamin E molecules Remaining ~10% are hydro carbon caratonoids Beta carotene and and lycopene contain nothing else than hydrogen and carbon 1995 study by Dr. Lester Packer of UC Berkeley: Used to compare alpha-tocopherol and tocotrienol Concluded that both capture free radicals, to protect the lipid from oxidation However, tocotrienol is 50 times more effective in protecting the cell Comparison: Tocopherol is like municipal police within a small jurisdiction; tocotrienol is like a state trooper with far larger jurisdiction Tocotrienol recruits to cancer cells 10X more than tocopherol Critics say that only alpha-tocopherol is found in the blood; therefore all advocacy for tocotrienol is moot Only alpha-tocopherol has a "transport protein", which chaperones a particular molecule to a site of action The transport protein ensures the conservation of alpha-tocopherol (which is why supplementation is bad news) -Dr. Tan's discovery of the amazing Annatto plant while living in South America...43:20 Went to find lutein and zeaxanthin Discovered the  while searching for marigold flowers in Brazil It was nicknamed the "lipstick plant" due to its intense red color on the inside South Americans called it "achuite"; is used as a food coloring Dr. Tan recognized the Annatto to be a caratenoid: Carotene in nature has to be protected by something due to its instability (plants changing color in the spring) Because the Annatto did not change color, he realized it was a potentially powerful antioxidant Biggest surprise of his research: Did not contain polyphenols, nor any type of tocopherol. It contained primarily delta-tocotrienol, which had been shown to be the most potent form of Vitamin E. The plant is naturally free of any type of tocopherol -How the Annatto plant is used to treat non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)...52:30 NAFLD is the new name for "metabolic syndrome" 20% of youth, and 40% of adults in America are obese 3 of 5 risk markers: Elevated triglycerides Reduced HDL Increased weight circumference 80-100 million Americans have NAFLD in some form The liver is very intolerant of fat Symptoms resemble those of alcoholics, hence the name "non-alcoholic" Notable data from Dr. Tan's study: Gave people 600 mg of tocotrienol Vitamin E; 300 mg twice daily 70 patients; double blind; placebo controlled Did at the beginning, 3 months after, 6 months after 3 months: lost average 10 pounds 6 months: lost average 17 pounds Waist circumference dropped 3 cm Use caution when purchasing products using the words "liver support" in its packaging -The other compound Dr. Tan found in the Annatto plant in addition to tocotrienols...1:03:10 GG: geraniol geranial It's an endogenous nutrient, naturally produced by the human body Helps with the synthesis of testosterone Older folks take it, not for the sex drive, but to have zest for life Required for the synthesis of caratenoid GG is a prerequisite for the synthesis of CoQ10 GG is currently in development; not currently on the market Its use as a pain management tool is complimentary, but not similar to, CBD -And much more! Ever heard of Soylent? Three years ago, it popped up on a blog post entitled "", and in it, author Rob Rinehart introduced a special meal replacement powder he had formulated that he claimed, among other things, would allow you to be in peak mental and physical condition for less than $2/day, would not spoil for months, does not require refrigeration, and would allow a full spectrum of nutrients to get mainlined into your bloodstream without you even needing to poop. Needless to say, my eyebrow was raised when I first heard about the stuff. And sure enough, the crazy, space-age formulation was  to have some serious issues, including huge amounts of maltodextrin sugar, oxidized vegetable oils, huge amounts of soy lecithin, sucralose artificial sweetener, rancid fish oil and much more. Bummer. But at the same time, as a global traveler and busy man, I'm still intrigued with the concept of having something that delivers all your nutrients in one shot, is easy to transport, costs less than five bucks a serving and is environmentally friendly.  And that was why, , I mentioned that I was experimenting with a fast, drinkable (or eatable) meal replacement called "". Oats Oats (Avena sativa) are a great source of complex carbohydrates which help to maintain normal blood sugar and sustained-release energy. They are rich in minerals such as manganese, molybdenum, phosphorus and magnesium as well as several B-group vitamins. Unlike many other plants oats contain soluble fibres called β-glucans that slow down energy release during digestion. Oats also contain essential polyunsaturated omega fatty acids. We use oats that have been flattened, pre-cooked, dried and milled into a fine powder to ensure cold-water solubility and the bioavailability of nutrients. Our oats are grown in Finland. Almonds Almonds (Prunus amygdalus) are a good source of vitamin E and have a good fatty acid profile of mono- and polyunsaturated essential fats. They also contain over 20g of protein per 100g as well as significant amounts of micronutrients like magnesium, calcium, copper, manganese, potassium and biotin. Besides almonds contain several non-vital but useful substances including polyphenols and phytosterols. Almonds are blanched before milling. The variety of almonds is Valencias and they come from organic producers in Spain. Brown rice Whole grain brown rice (Oryza sativa) is used as a source of protein. The protein is extracted from the bio-fermented and sprouted whole grain rice in low-temperatures using plant-based enzymes to sustain all natural micronutrients. Rice is grown on pure soil in Vietnam or Cambodia and the protein manufactured in modern facilities in China. Production is done using 100% natural processes without any nasty additives or pesticides. This brown rice protein has an excellent amino acid profile and up to 89% of protein. It contains eight out of nine essential amino acids and nine nonessential amino acids as well as a good amount of essential minerals such as iron. Coconut Coconut (Cocos nucifera) is rich in minerals containing magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron and calcium. It also has trace amounts of several B vitamins. Because of the fibre-richness and low glycemic index coconut provides stable energy without sugar-crash. Besides nutrition coconut brings natural sweetness and creaminess to the recipe. The coconut flour we use comes from organic farmers in Philippines which is the largest coconut producer in the world after Indonesia and India. Flax seed Flaxseed is a functional food, and a rich source of fiber-related compounds called lignans. Lignans are unique polyphenols that possess hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic and powerful antioxidant properties. Flaxseeds are the number one source of omega-3 fatty acid, which is known to be important for human brain function. On average, 100 grams of flaxseed amount to 28 grams of fiber, 41 grams of fats and 20 grams of protein. Lucuma Lucuma (Pouteria lucuma) has significant amounts of B vitamins as well as iron, calcium and phosphorus. It also contains β-Carotene which is a pre-form of vitamin A. The low glycemic index makes lucuma a good source of stable energy from carbohydrates. Besides nutrition the fruit adds nice flavor the recipe. The fruit origins from the Peruvian andes and that also where we source our lucuma. Stinging Nettle Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) is a particularly great source of calcium as well as many other micronutrients such as vitamins A, C and K. This rare herb is almost five times richer in calcium than regular milk. It also contains significant amount of chlorophyll which is a non-essential but beneficial phytonutrient also known as the green pigment found in plants. Nettle grows wild and takes very little to cultivate making it sustainable source of nutrition. It also adds mild herbal flavour to the recipe. We use nettle grown in Finland or Hungary depending on the availability. Apple Apple (Malus domestica) contains vitamin C and has high fiber content. Its peel is high in antioxidants, polyphenols and phytochemicals. We use an apple powder made from complete organic apples with peel, from US or Europe, depending on availability and quality. Being a minor compound in the recipe, its main role is taste, blending well to the oats with lucuma, adding a few grams of fructose to the carbohydrate profile. Rice Bran Rice bran solubles or tocotrienols are the nutritional powerhouse of the rice (Oryza sativa) grain containing significant amounts of vitamin E. Tocotrienols are also rich in protein, B-group vitamins, and selenium as well as many non-essential but beneficial substances like coenzyme Q10, alpha lipoic acid, flavonoids and glutathione peroxidase. The powder is produced by the fermentation of whole grain rice grain located between the shell and the bran, which contains nearly all the nutrients in rice. Besides nutrition rice bran solubles bring natural creaminess to the recipe. Our rice bran powder is produced in the USA. Chlorella Chlorella (Chlorella pyrenoidosa) is a single-celled freshwater algae that is full of essential nutrients. The plant contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, E, and K. In addition chlorella contains vitamin D and B12. It also contains calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, phosphorus, iodine and other minerals as well as essential amino and fatty acids. Chlorella is richer in chlorophyll than any other plant and has been considered as a complete food by some nutritionists. We use special chlorella which cell walls have been cracked using a high-pressure jet spray to improve digestibility and nutrient bioavailability. Our chlorella is cultivated in the Inner-Mongolia border of China outside large cities. The area is known for its good water quality, sufficient sunlight, non-polluted air, and abundant natural alkaline resources. Chlorella is grown inside greenhouses in pools filled with pure water from the depths of 500 meter streaming from the surrounding mountains. These conditions enable cultivation of our high-quality chlorella containing only very low-amounts of heavy-metals and other toxins. To preserve precious micronutrients for your body, our chlorella is raw and dried in controlled temperatures to avoid exposure to heat above 45 °C (113 °F). It is certified organic by accredited Ecocert certification body. Nutritional Yeast Nutritional yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is a great source of B-complex vitamins containing naturally seven out of eight essential B vitamins. It is also rich in essential minerals such as magnesium, calcium, zinc and iron. Nutritional yeast is made out the the same species of yeast used for brewing but it is carefully deactivated and dried to keep the nutritional richness and make it easily digestible for the body. Besides essential vitamins and minerals nutritional yeast contain glutamic acid which is a non-essential amino acid important for learning and memory. Nutritional yeast also adds gentle creamy-cheesy flavour to the recipe. Our nutritional yeast is produced in Finland or USA. Mineral Salt Mineral salt is a good source of potassium and iodine. It also contains healthy amount of sodium to maintain good mineral balance in the body. Potassium and sodium are electrolytes that maintain the fluid balance in the body and are important for the heart, muscles and brain to function properly. Besides the contribution of essential micronutrients salt underlines the natural flavour of other ingredients. Brazil Nut Brazil nuts (Bertholletia excelsa) are exceptionally rich in selenium and contains good amount of other nutrients like niacin (B3), vitamin E and magnesium as well as amino acids and multiple essential fatty acids. Besides essential nutrients they contain carotenoids, phytosterols and phytic acid which are known to be beneficial for health. Brazil nuts are native to South-American rainforest. Our Brazil nuts come from Bolivia which produces approximately half of the worlds harvest. Bilberry Bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus) are exceptionally nutritious super berries that grow wild in Northern Europe. They are rich in vitamins A and C and contain traces of several B-complex vitamins as well as multiple essential minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium. In addition to essential nutrients bilberries are very rich in flavonoids and have two times the amount of antioxidants than blueberries and three times that of an apple measured ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) index. The antioxidants in wild berries have shown to be bioavailable for the human body. The bilberries we use have grown wild above Polar Circle in the northern Finland, hand-picked and carefully dried and powdered in low temperatures to preserve nutrients. Spinach Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) contains high amounts of vitamins such as vitamin A, K and folate. It is also high in iron and calcium, but also non-essential substances such as antioxidants. Our spinach powder is made by drying and milling it in low temperatures. It is organic and raw and comes from organic farms in Germany. Blackcurrant Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) is an extremely good source of vitamin C containing up to four times more of it than oranges. It also contains traces of several B-group vitamins as well as minerals magnesium, manganese, iron and calcium. Like many berries blackcurrant also hold non-essential phytonutrient polyphenols and phytosterols. It is native to northern Europe and the berries grow in a shrub. Our blackcurrant berry powder is carefully manufactured in low temperatures in Finland. Sea-buckthorn Sea-buckthorns (Hippophae rhamnoides) are one of the richest plant based sources of vitamin C and can contains even five times more of it than oranges. These small orange superberries are also dense in potassium, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus as well as vitamin K. Besides they contain non-essential but beneficial omega-7 fatty acids (palmitoleic acid) and carotenoids. Our sea-buckthorns come from Finland or Estonia. Spirulina Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) is a nutritional powerhouse full of essential nutrients. It contains up to 71g of protein per 100g including all nine essential amino acids as well as nine non-essential. Besides it is dense in micronutrients being a rich source of six B-complex vitamins, choline, and vitamins C, E and K as well as a number of essential trace minerals such as iron, magnesium and zinc. It is also loaded with non-essential substances like chlorophyll and antioxidants. We have carefully selected the most qualified organic producer in China. The spirulina in Ambronite is cultivated in the Inner-Mongolia border of China outside large cities. The area is known for its good water quality, sufficient sunlight, non-polluted air, and abundant natural alkaline resources. Spirulina is grown inside greenhouses in pools filled with pure water from the depths of 500 meter streaming from the surrounding mountains. These conditions enable cultivation of our high-quality spirulina containing only very low-amounts of heavy-metals and other toxins. To preserve precious micronutrients for your body, our spirulina is raw and dried in controlled temperatures to avoid exposure to heat above 45 °C (113 °F). It is certified organic by accredited Ecocert certification body.
