He also discusses the inspiration behind his latest national tour, ‘A Fistful of Clary' - giving a tantalising taste of what to expect. Can laughter ease anxiety? Comedian Julian Clary certainly thinks so. After living through some incredibly dark events and anxious times, he's decided to choose to laugh and think positive thoughts. In this chat with Fearne, Julian talks about feeling naturally happier and more comfortable in his skin as he got older. Most things, he says, just aren't as important as you think they are, and that's a freeing realisation. Julian also explains why he's embraced causing outrage and even offence. Fearne and Julian share how they've each combatted poor sleep, and the sleeping aids, medications, and techniques that have worked for them. Plus, Julian's not a massive fan of therapy, so he turns the tables on Fearne and quizzes her about her experience of it... A Fistful of Clary, Julian's western-themed stand-up tour, will be heading out round the UK from 30th April. #550 Julian Clary's Glittery Balls - Rich pays tribute to a former guest who we have very sadly lost, but is trying to look on the bright side too and get some laughs as is only right at the death of a comedian. His guest is alive at time of recording, Nish Kumar. They talk about the new Tory leader (at time of recording) and how they compare with the sexiness of previous head honchos, how much we should tax billionaires and if we can change their mindset to make them less hoardy, spending millions to regain youth and why Nish should enjoy being 39 while he still can, the possible consequences of the US election (which you may know more about than us, but good to get some predictions in), ideal pre-gig food and what you shouldn't eat, why Milton Jones (and now Nish Kumar) is the best comedian to support and what happens if his audience takes against you.If you want to see Nish's Don't Kill My Vibe tour simply travel into the past.To support Rich in his Solero challenge please donate here https://www.justgiving.com/page/noleroTo see Rich on tour head here http://richardherring.com/ballback/tourCome and see RHLSTP live http://richardherring.com/rhlstpSUPPORT THE SHOW!Watch our TWITCH CHANNELSee extra content at our WEBSITE Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/rhlstp. Julian Clary takes time out of Panto season to chat with Gabby about the sense of urgency and clarity that getting older has brought him; how much he still loves making others laugh, hence why retirement is not for him; and why he doesn't believe midlife needs to be about any kind of crisis. The comedian, actor, and writer, brings his trademark risqué comedy and candour to this episode, and also discusses the excesses of his youth, his memories of Strictly Come Dancing, paying tribute to his great friend Paul O'Grady, and the synchronicity of dogs - how the universe will always provide the right canine friend just at the right time! You can catch Julian on stage at the Polladium Pantomime until January 2025, and his new novel A Curtain Call To Murder is available now. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

A (relatively) in-depth analysis of the song Wand'rin' Star by Lee Marvin (in just under 20 minutes). The song was originally written for the stage musical Paint Your Wagon in 1951 and was recorded by Lee Marvin when the musical was translated in a movie in 1969.Released as a single in 1970, Wan'drin' Star became a number one hit in the UK. A sound-alike cover version appeared on the 1970 Top of the Pops album with one reviewer using terms like "laryngitic croak" and "gargling gargoyles" to describe how he felt about the version. It was also covered by UK comedian Julian Clary and released as a single in 1990. Shane MacGowan and The Popes also covered the song on their 1997 album The Crock of Gold and the song was played at the end of the funeral of Joe Strummer in 2002.In this episode I am in conversation with Dr. Andrew Webber.I hope you enjoy this podcast.Mathew WoodallThe introduction to this episode features an excerpt from 'Ma' from the album 'Asimov' by Inafer Era. We dissect the week's queer news agenda and then discuss Kevin's impending trip to Berlin. Graeme and Kevin have both been to Berlin, but had vastly different cultural experiences, Kevin going to the David Hasselhoff museum and G heading to the Berghain. This week, we're talking time, priorities and organisation. But this isn't a "10 quick tips to organise your life" - this is a deep dive into the real truths behind the ways we spend our time. We discuss the importance of knowing your 'why' when you make decisions about your time. We debate the role of identity in those decisions, and we discuss some of the challenges we face in our own art lives. Each of us only have limited bandwidth which means we simply have to make decisions. So, above all, we urge honest self-reflection ... it's so important to understand what we want out of art art lives and where we are straying from that path. If you struggle with time management, you are not alone and we hope this discussion helps you find some clarity about your own priorities. Jeffrey Holland is Sitcom Royalty, You could say Hi De Hi and it wouldn't be the first time he'd heard that in the street and if you think it started airing on TV 41 years ago, Jeffrey's face hasn't really changed in that time. I guess when we see people pop on and off our TV screens they become part of our family, they're in our homes with us during a cuppa tea or a roast dinner, your sat with your favourite people or family and popular sitcoms such as Hi de hi, only fools and horses, one foot in the grave, they're there to make the whole family laugh together, that is the family's first Comedy Club together and the first theatre for the family is pantomime. So we have a lot to thank Mr Holland for, he has appeared in so many of our favourites including Hi de hi as Spike Dixon, You rang m'lord as James Twelve trees, Cecil parkin in oh Doctor Beeching and he has been in Are you being served, It aint arf hot mum and dads army. His face would be so recognisable throughout the 80's and 90's due to his part in the Russ Abbot TV Shows, Les Dennis and Kenny Everett TV Shows and if you have seen pantomime in the past 50 years you would probably have seen Jeffrey on the bill. I saw him with Keith Harris, Nigel Havers, Julian Clary and Joan Collins at the Birmingham Hippodrome, I mean what a show that was. I'll let Jeffrey tell you the rest, Welcome to E&T VOV Jeffrey Holland

This episode we have an extra special interview with one of the UK's most loved entertainers. Who else could it be but Julian Clary? Julian began working on the cabaret and alternative comedy scene in the 1980s, although he was known back then as Gillian Pieface and later as The Joan Collins Fan club. Ever since then he has worked himself into one of comedy's biggest names, undertaking many successful tours and other projects which has given him a very impressive portfolio of work. He's an actor, an author, a best selling novelist, a comedian and a radio and TV host. And that's just to name a few achievements of his. And he hasn't stopped there. You'll hear all about Julian's upcoming projects and his new role in the widely celebrated play 'The Dresser'. Listen now!
The role of Norman, the longsuffering, waspish eponymous dresser in Ronald Harwood's 1980 play, might have been written for Julian Clary. It's about a touring theatre company bringing Shakespeare to the provinces during the Blitz. As all the young actors are away fighting it's a motley crew, led by Sir, a monstrous yet pathetic veteran actor. Sir's mind and his world are crumbling. Only Norman can cajole him onto the stage. Now Julian Clary is playing Norman, in a touring theatre company, during a pandemic. He talks to Kirsty Lang about Norman, his relationship with Sir, and how, now we know more about dementia, this play, considered the best ever about theatre itself, is more pertinent than ever. This week, the Royal Opera House opened to a full capacity audience for the first time since March 2020, with Sir Antonio Pappano picking up the baton in the pit. He tells Kirsty how good it felt to be back, why it's taken so long for him to conduct Verdi's popular masterpiece, and why he's jealous of his continental counterparts. And on the day that the Booker Prize shortlist is announced, we're joined live in the studio by Horatia Harrod, member of the judging panel and an editor at The Financial Times Weekend, to discuss the six novels in the running for this year's £50,000 award. Presenter: Kirsty Lang Producer: Oliver Jones
