Urologists, Dr. Justin Dubin and Dr. Kevin Chu, emphasize the significance of understanding these topics to enrich your life. With their expertise and insights, this episode aims to provide you with accurate information straight from the experts themselves. It's essential to recognize that while testosterone therapy has its benefits, it also carries risks, just like any medication. Although testosterone is generally safe, it's crucial to be aware of its potential impact on fertility. Moving on to post-vasectomy pain syndrome, it refers to intermittent or constant discomfort in one or both testicles lasting for at least three months following the procedure. This condition can interfere with your daily activities, and we'll delve deeper into its implications. Post-finasteride syndrome is a phenomenon primarily observed in younger men who use the medication for alopecia. While this condition is more prevalent in younger individuals, it's crucial to understand its potential impact. As for pearly penile papules, these are small, flesh-colored dots less than a millimeter in size typically found around the corona during puberty. It's essential to note that they don't cause pain, increase in size, or pose significant health risks. However, they can often be mistaken for genital warts, leading to unnecessary stress and concerns. Lastly, we'll explore how marijuana affects fertility. Research suggests that marijuana usage can have adverse effects on sperm concentration, count, morphology, motility, viability, and fertilization capacity. Understanding these potential impacts is essential for those considering parenthood or seeking to expand their knowledge on the subject. Don't miss out on this enlightening conversation! Dr. Dubin's Florida-based practice has earned him recognition for his expertise and dedication to guiding patients toward enhanced sexual health.   The way the medical system makes decisions has changed in a noticeable way over time. The days when people just did what their doctors told them to do are over. Instead, there has been a change in the way people think about making decisions. This change is caused by a number of things, such as the fact that there are many ways to treat a given condition and the realization that each person's wants and preferences must be taken into account. Patients with erectile dysfunction can now choose from a wide range of treatments, each of which has its own pros and cons. By having open conversations with their doctors, patients can take an active role in their treatment and make sure that their decisions are in line with their needs and goals.   For more free erectile dysfunction education and resources, please visit: https://erectioniq.com/  Mark Goldberg helps men resolve erectile dysfunction. In this episode of BackTable, Dr. Jose Silva and Dr. Justin Dubin chat about the benefits and pitfalls of using social media to network with colleagues and to educate patients about urological conditions. --- CHECK OUT OUR SPONSOR ReviveRX https://reviverx.com/urology/ --- SHOW NOTES First, Dr. Dubin explains why he created his own social media presence, which was to control his own narrative online. However, he realized that he could also form valuable connections with other doctors through social media, which motivated him to develop his social media from a professional standpoint. For instance, he was able to connect with other researchers virtually and publish papers. He encourages other urologists to create professional social media accounts but to also portray themselves authentically. Next, he explains his job search after fellowship. He had to consider his own priorities, most important of which was to have a clinic focused on men's health, not just general urology. Additionally, he only refers patients to primary care physicians he would go to himself. Next, he and Dr. Silva discuss the workup for patients with low testosterone. According to guidelines, treatment is warranted if the patient has a low testosterone level and is symptomatic. Dr. Dubin emphasizes the importance of explaining to young patients that testosterone replacement therapy can cause infertility through azoospermia or anejaculation. Dr. Silva debunks the myth that testosterone replacement causes prostate cancer. Then, the doctors discuss the benefits of the expanding field of telemedicine. Dr. Dubin explains that telemedicine mitigates the stigma of erectile dysfunction and increases the convenience and accessibility of urologic care. Finally, Dr. Silva and Dr. Dubin comment on the increasing incidence of misinformation from social media about urologic conditions. Dr. Dubin summarizes a paper he published about harmful myths propagated by non-medical personnel on TikTok and Instagram. Both of the doctors agree that podcasts, such Dr. Dubin's Man Up Podcast, can provide accurate information to patients. Dr. Silva notes the importance of outreach to younger patients, who utilize social media more and are more prone to misinformation. --- RESOURCES ReviveRx https://reviverx.com/ Man Up Podcast “The broad reach and inaccuracy of men's health information on social media: analysis of TikTok and Instagram” (Dubin, 2022) https://www.nature.com/articles/s41443-022-00645-6 “Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time” by Keith Ferrazzi https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/227558/never-eat-alone-expanded-and-updated-by-keith-ferrazzi-and-tahl-raz/
