A young man from Galway, who plays his rugby with Galway Bay Rugby Club, has organised a fundraiser in memory of his Aunt who passed away last June after a very brave battle with leukaemia. Over the past three yearsm, Elin Mulhall has been growing his hair with the goal of donating it and on Tuesday next, he will be getting it cut and donating it to the Rapunzel Foundation, where it will be used to make a wig for someone in need. He is also fundraising for Cancer Care West and Leukaemia Trust. What if the quiet nudges you've been feeling… aren't random at all?In this episode, we're joined by Robert Mulhall—leader, spiritual practitioner, and former CEO of Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. He has spent his life learning how to listen to those subtle inner whispers…and actually follow them.Robert's journey doesn't fit neatly into one box (and honestly, we love that). From global development and public health to executive coaching and spiritual practice, including training in mindfulness meditation, Reiki, Akashic Records, the Enneagram, and even Celtic Irish shamanism. He's walked the line between the corporate world and deep inner work, proving that you don't have to choose one or the other. What really stands out is his willingness to trust the unknown, even when it didn't make logical sense. We talk about what it really means to listen to your inner guidance, how to recognize when life is asking you to pivot, and why transformation isn't something to chase—it's something to allow. If you've been feeling a pull toward “something more” but can't quite explain it… this one's for you.WHAT WE TALK ABOUTWhat “life's whispers” actually feel like—and how to recognize themWhy your next step won't always make logical sense (and why that's okay)The power of presence + attention (hint: it's everything)How Robert's unconventional upbringing shaped his view of wholeness and purposeThe intersection of leadership, spirituality, and serviceInsights from practices like mindfulness, Reiki, the Enneagram, and Celtic Irish shamanism—and how they each support transformationLessons from some of the world's most respected spiritual teachersHow to build trust with your inner voice (even if it's been quiet for a while)Why transformation is less about doing… and more about remembering who you already areA must-do exercise that may change your every daySo many of us are standing at a crossroads, trying to figure out what's next. And while the world is loud with advice, Robert reminds us that the answers we're looking for are often much quieter… and already within us.This conversation is your reminder to slow down, tune in, and trust what you're hearing—even if it feels unfamiliar.MORE FROM ROBERT MULHALLVisit robertmulhall.com to explore more about Robert and his work. Great to chat with a man who co-founded Hyperion Thoroughbreds, one of the very earliest racehorse syndication companies in Australia. We find out what Allan's been doing since a crippling recession brought Hyperion's operation to a halt in 1990. Allan takes us back to his childhood in Gravesend near Warialda when radio was a way of life to country people. He fell in love with the theatre of racing, the day he listened to the broadcast of the 1956 Melbourne Cup. He talks of school days in Inverell and his first job at the Valuer General's Department in Sydney. A job transfer to Moree led him to a friendship with Terry Mulhall, destined to become his business partner in later years. Allan reflects on the creation of Hyperion Thoroughbreds and the concept of forming larger syndicates than those offered by predecessors. He recalls the creation of the famous black and pink silks which signalled the emerging popularity of syndication. He reflects on the tough guidelines introduced by the Corporate Affairs Commission in the 1970's. Allan looks back on the extensive methods of communication necessary to keep hundreds of owners informed about their horses. He acknowledges some of the better horses to keep the Hyperion banner flying, beginning with the cheap Dubbo sale graduate Prince Clarendon. Allan pays a special tribute to the evergreen Targlish, almost certainly the best horse to represent the company. The remarkable gelding raced 109 times for 17 wins and 31 placings. He reflects on the ground breaking idea of purchasing a horse to race in America for Australian owners. He pays tribute to So Vague who won 5 races in the USA before being brought to Australia. He later won stakes races in Melbourne for Colin Hayes. Allan acknowledges the devotion of some special trainers who gave great service to Hyperion Thoroughbreds. He pays a special tribute to the veteran jockey who rode many winners in the Hyperion colours and frequently helped out behind the scenes. Allan reflects on the inevitable winding down of the 16 year old company when the recession started to bite. Hyperion was one of hundreds of businesses to be brought to their knees. The last of the horses were placed according to the wishes of their owners, and a great era had come to an end. It was a tough day for old mates Gainey and Mulhall.

By Any Other Name (Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS), S2 E22) was recommended by Toledo (toe-LEE-dough), he/him, who said: I first encountered this episode, as I did many TOS episodes, in elementary school while I read collections of James Blish's novelizations from the 70s. Even in text, there were elements I found to be genuinely horrifying: super-powerful aliens that apparently are normally giant, tentacled Lovecraftian creatures; they're coming to conquer the galaxy; machines give them the power to immobilize people and to transform them into helpless, easily- and callously-destroyed polyhedra. It give us a rare example of intergalactic travel in Star Trek: the Kelvans are from Andromeda, arrived in a generation ship, and wish to return. It offers a very clever narrative use of aliens looking exactly human: it's a necessary shapeshifting adaptation for the Kelvans to use the Enterprise, but it's also the key to their demise.I think this episode offers some early vocal callbacks to previous episodes, demonstrating how TOS sometimes handled continuity -- and foreshadowing later Trek. Examples include callouts to "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (galactic barrier) and "A Taste of Armageddon" _Vulcan mind tricks).Tons of genuine silliness: the Kelvans' reactions to humans, Scotty's iconic "it is green."By Any Other Name first aired on February 9, 1968, written by story by Jerome Bixby, teleplay by D. C. Fontana and Jerome Bixby, and directed by Marc DanielsTelepathic aliens take control of Kirk and Spock's bodies with the intention to build new, mechanized bodies for themselves. After receiving a distress signal from a planet deep in the galaxy and far from the last charted area, the Enterprise is contacted by a life form of pure energy that wishes Kirk, Spock, Dr. Mulhall and Bones to beam down. They meet Sargon, a conscious mind trapped in a machine. Sargon explains that their civilization travelled space just like Kirk centuries ago and left people in various star systems to colonize. But this planet suffered a war where all but a few people destroyed themselves. Sargon, his wife and another remain alive like this and wish to take control of Kirk, Spock and Dr. Mulhall's bodies to make android bodies for themselves. The Enterprise accepts their offer after deliberation and Sargon begins work. To allow the body to sustain this transformation, Henock, the third alien, makes a potion to help but has other plans. Sargon devizes a plan to destroy him, apologizes to the Enterprise and accepts their fate thereby ceasing to exist.[2]The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

You may have heard that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is re-evaluating approaches like nutraceuticals and chelation therapy as potential, affordable treatments for chronic conditions affecting millions of Americans. But what is chelation therapy—and why all the debate?Chelation involves removing heavy metals and toxins from the body, which may be especially relevant for individuals under high stress who've been exposed to environmental toxins. It's also at the center of growing political and medical conversations. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., for example, has been a vocal advocate, criticizing the FDA for delaying access and calling for wider availability of chelation-based treatments.

In the first half, as multiple fires raged in Southern California, author and documentary filmmaker Douglas Mulhall discussed how to recover from wildfires and avoid the pervasive presence of toxins associated with them. There has been an alarming rise in wildfires across the United States, he said, noting that "we're experiencing periods of extreme rain and extreme drought interspersed with each other, creating instability in the local climate." The conversation also touched on the human factor behind many fires, including arson, but Mulhall pointed out that utility companies are often at fault, as seen in the Lahaina fire. "Tens of billions of dollars in lawsuits have been launched against at least 20 major power providers across the country for causing these fires," he stated.Mulhall urged listeners to take proactive steps to protect themselves during wildfire evacuations, advising people to get water, air purifiers, masks, and new filters for their heating and AC systems (as well as for vehicles) and prepare emotionally for the devastation they might return to. He emphasized the importance of being ready for the health impacts of smoke and ash, which can persist long after the fires are out. Discussing insurance, he warned that many people may find their wildfire coverage limited, so they should check and review their policies carefully. Citing the Lahaina fire, he reported that one house survived the blaze due to features like a metal roof and a defensible space free of vegetation, including a rock garden surrounding the house. For more on wildfire issues, check out this special page Mullhall created with helpful links.------------In the latter half, ghost hunter Courtney McInvale spoke about ghosts uncovered from the Civil War, Confederate spirits, and the historic places from which they lived when alive. She delved into the haunting history of Andersonville in Georgia, a notorious Confederate prison also known as Camp Sumter, that has been described as a "hellhole on Earth" where over 13,000 soldiers died from disease and malnutrition. She reported that Capt. Henry Wirz, who was charged with war crimes after the war and executed, is said to haunt the Andersonville location.McInvale shared a chilling ghost story involving Father Whelan, a priest who administered last rites to dying soldiers at Camp Sumter. A tourist had come to the prison and saw a shadowy figure on the road, who approached him and said, "Sir, I need to administer your last rites." The man became frightened, and as he moved away, he ended up running right through the apparition. An employee of the national park that houses the prison said that the spirit of Whelan continues to haunt the site. When asked what creates these ghostly tales, McInvale reflected, "The tragedy of a life cut short... the fear of being forgotten." She emphasized that many soldiers died young, leaving behind unfulfilled lives and legacies, and their trauma may open up a kind of portal or "time slip" for the ghostly phenomena. Focusing on the Battle of Chickamauga, she described the conflict as a "terrible destruction" with over 30,000 casualties in just two days. The battlefield location of Snodgrass Hill, where bodies piled up, is said to be particularly haunted. She is launching "Southern Shadows," a series of haunted history tours in Georgia, inspired by the significant events in Chickamauga.

In the first half, journalist, author, and documentary filmmaker Douglas Mulhall discussed the pervasive presence of heavy metals in our environment and their alarming effects on human health, particularly in children. He explained that heavy metals like lead, arsenic, and cadmium are integral to various industries, noting, "Our contemporary industry actually depends on these heavy metals," and that is why they are pretty much everywhere in our lives. He highlighted the alarming fact that these metals can enter our food systems through fertilizers, air pollution, and even cigarette smoke, and how they may be linked to cancer, heart disease, neurological issues, and Alzheimer's.One of the most shocking revelations was the presence of heavy metals in baby foods. "It's absolutely outrageous that these have not been regulated," Mulhall lamented. He encouraged parents to stay informed, mentioning that a new California law requires manufacturers to publicly disclose heavy metal testing results, which could serve as a model for nationwide standards. He recommended natural remedies that can help detoxify the body, including cilantro which is effective in removing heavy metals, particularly mercury and lead, while garlic, onions, leafy greens, broccoli sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, green tea, turmeric, and flax seeds can also aid in detoxification. He urged listeners to be proactive about their health, endorsing air and water filtration systems to minimize exposure.----------------In the latter half, clairvoyant and energy master Michael Monk shared his profound journey into spirituality that propelled him into a life dedicated to exploring healing, astral projection, and spiritual mastery. He recounted a pivotal experience in 1999, in which he felt a presence that opened up his inner vision. Monk identified this presence as God, and subsequently, he developed healing and telekinetic abilities. He described astral projection as a "remembrance and integration" of our true spiritual nature, and noted that everyone experiences out-of-body moments during sleep, though many do not recall them.He reassured listeners about the safety of astral or out-of-body travel, stating, "Getting back in is easy... the trick is learning how to stay out." According to Monk, the benefits of astral projection include a deeper understanding of one's multi-dimensional existence and a personal connection with God, as well as recreational possibilities. In his astral travels, he asks God where to go, and "Sometimes it'll travel me through the stars and put me on another planet. Sometimes it'll dimensionally shift to a whole different type of realm altogether." Time has a different sense in which "you could have a three-hour long out-of-body experience and come back and realize that only five minutes has passed here."

Mulhall shares his insights on the role of heavy metals in causing heart disease and other health issues, and discusses the importance of addressing these hidden stresses. He highlights the effectiveness of intravenous chelation therapy in removing heavy metals from the body and restoring circulation. Mulhall also emphasizes the need for increased awareness and regulation of heavy metals in food and water, particularly for children who are more vulnerable to their effects. The episode provides valuable information and practical tips for reducing hidden stresses and improving overall health.   Key Takeaways: Heavy metals, such as lead, cadmium, and arsenic, are a hidden stress that can have a significant impact on our health, including heart disease, behavioral issues, and neurological disorders. Intravenous chelation therapy is an effective treatment for removing heavy metals from the body and restoring circulation, as demonstrated by clinical trials. Children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of heavy metals, and it is crucial to take steps to reduce their exposure and protect their health. The FDA does not currently require manufacturers to test for heavy metals in food, highlighting the need for increased regulation and transparency.
