Filmmaker Daviel Shy joins us to share about her upcoming project, The Lovers, which serves eroticism and queerness in equal parts. Daviel's creative mindset is akin to an arousal state. In creative flow, she takes in her experiences with heightened awareness and incorporates them into her work. Daviel also integrates the unique lived experiences of her collaborators into her work and allows space for the work to be changed by those both in front of and behind the camera. The Lovers web series is a semi-autobiographical work that integrates the ways Daviel and her collaborators sought connection through the pandemic and how the isolation, separation and strange interconnectedness of the pandemic changed them (and all of us). In revisiting the experience of the pandemic, audiences are able to process and integrate their lingering grief and trauma from living through similar experiences. The series premieres September 21st at the LA Gay and Lesbian Center. In this episode, Lisa and Vince discuss:The three different types of admissions interviews. Benefits of participating in a college admissions interview. How your student can demonstrate interest and show their voice to the interviewer. Steps to prepare for admissions interviews. Key Takeaways: Typically, your student must have their college application submitted before they can interview. Most admissions interviews are currently being done via Zoom. However, if it is in person and the interview is at someone's house, do not allow your student to go alone. Not all colleges and universities will do interviews. Don't rely solely on the common application to know what the schools require and what is available to your student. Be proactive and plan ahead. Your student will want to check their student portal and email regularly, as interview opportunities that were not available before may appear there.  “One of the ways I tell students to prepare is to always have five reasons they are applying to the school: three of them connected to their major interest, and two of them can be anything else unique to that school.” – Vince GarciaAbout Vince Garcia: Vince is the co-founder and owner of Q&A College Admissions. A graduate of Occidental College, he has worked in college admissions, college counseling, and scholarship selections with students of all abilities since 1989. In 2003, he created the nation's first college admissions boot camp. During the college counseling application boot camp, high school seniors completed the Common Application, wrote admissions essays, developed a college admissions strategy, produced activity and achievement summaries, and practiced interview techniques. Vince has expertise in admissions in engineering, health, science, mathematics, athletics, learning differences, and the visual and performing arts. He has extensive training in college admissions as well as college counseling training through the Harvard Summer Institute on Colleges Admissions. He has visited over 300 colleges in the US and abroad. In the wake of the sudden passing of actor Leslie Jordan, Dennis revisits this interview he conducted with Leslie in his Los Angeles apartment on October 28, 2014. In it, Leslie discusses his one-man show "Fruit Fly" which was returned to the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center's Renberg Theater that December. Leslie talks about show's origins, the theme of a gay man and his mother and the pain of revisiting his father's tragic passing in a plane crash.  Leslie also tells wonderful and outrageous stories about his Emmy night turned nightmare, how his Emmy for "Will and Grace" got damaged, the "Dancing with the Stars" outing he'd like to forget and being mobbed by rabid "Sordid Lives" fans in Palm Springs. Leslie also answers these questions from the Observation Deck: Who was your most surprising fan? Where's the strangest place you've ever been recognized? And Have you ever thrown a good diva tantrum? Other topics include: working with Jessica Lange, writing a love letter to Lily Tomlin, gigantic pubic hair, spitting on Gary Busey on the British version of Big Brother, having his first boyfriend after the age of 50 and what kept him going through all the ups and downs of a career as an artist. About the interview, Dennis says, “I remember leaving Leslie's apartment after the interview feeling like I was high on some kind of drug, the drug of Leslie Jordan. He just made people happy on screen and off and what I find most inspiring about him is that he chose to be that way. I guess the lesson there is we all can.”

Jane Lynch                 This achingly funny character actress honed her comedic skills touring with the famed Second City troupe and playing the matriarch in the early '90s cult stage hit The Real Live Brady Bunch, which also helped launch Andy Richter. For the rest of the decade, Lynch racked up an impressive array of TV guest spots, mostly on sitcoms (Married... with Children, 3rd Rock from the Sun, NewsRadio) that showcased her dry delivery. But it was her riotous turn as a lesbian dog trainer in Christopher Guest's 2000 mockumentary Best in Show that launched her movie career. Not only did she go on to appear in small but memorable roles in a string of popular comedies (The 40 Year Old Virgin, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby), she enjoyed a creative collaboration with Guest, who used her to great effect in his subsequent films (a porn star turned folk singer in A Mighty Wind, a condescending entertainment reporter in For Your Consideration). However, Lynch landed her biggest role to date on the small screen, as the scheming cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on Glee, where she got to show off her singing and dancing talents to great effect. Fast Facts Played Carol Brady on stage in 1991's The Real Live Brady Bunch, in which actual episodes of the popular series were reenacted. Has appeared in many TV commercials, one of them directed by Christopher Guest, who later cast her in 2000's Best in Show. Performed her own singing and played guitar in Guest's 2003 folk-music spoof A Mighty Wind. Scripted and starred in the acclaimed play Oh Sister, My Sister at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center in 2004. Was unable to return to the second season of Party Down because of her work on Glee.

Emma went on to earn her degree in Exercise Science and began her journey through health and wellness as a personal trainer. In March of 2009, Emma uprooted from her small town and moved to Las Vegas with a one-way ticket, $200, and an impossible dream to positively impact the world through health and wellness. She began her work at the Professional Fitness Institute (PFI) in Las Vegas where she worked closely with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Working at PFI gave Emma the opportunity to mentor and worked with, alongside and for some of the top professionals, speakers, celebrities, and leaders in the health, wellness and fitness industry and it was from there that she gained opportunities in Vegas to work at multiple world-renowned residential fitness facilities and spas. Eventually, this led her down different paths in wellness including being the Assistant Director at DragonRidge Country Club as well as helping open two CrossFit gyms when the trend was brand new.  Feeling like there was more to be desired to connect the brain and body, Emma became one of the first Level 3 Fascial Stretch Therapists in the world in order to understand how our emotions effect our physical body, and then went on to become a Master Practitioner of NLP, Hypnosis, and Time Line Therapy from one of Tony Robbins personal mentors in Las Vegas, NV, Tad James at the Tad James Company in 2015. Emma has worked with many corporations including the Gay and Lesbian Center of Nevada as well as the Department of Aviation at McCarran Airport teaching advanced NLP and emotional intelligence programs to corporate executive and leadership teams to take them to the next level. She is an avid believer in using the Law of Attraction and quantum physics to manifest the life of your dreams and loves teaching others how to use these tools in everyday life. During all these years, many things changed, but one thing stayed consistent – cannabis remained a part of her lifestyle.  When the cannabis industry began to emerge in Las Vegas, Emma decided to quit the safety of working for Corporate America and went on to push herself into one of the first cannabis start-ups in Nevada - Silver State Wellness. Starting at $12/hour as the company’s (and state’s!) first brand ambassador, she grew into a sales role less than a year later, proved her value in the company through cultivating one of Nevada’s most successful sales teams, and 3 years and counting in the company, Emma is now part-owner of Silver State Wellness which has partners she helped bring to the NYSE such as Dixie Brands out of CO, Mindy’s Edibles out of IL, as well as world’s first cannabis beer to come to the market, Two Roots Brewing Company, as well as Nevada’s #1 selling CBD company, Baskin Essentials, which are both fully owned and integrated under her company’s licenses.
