Today, I'm talking to - Katie Beecher – Medical and Spiritual Intuitive, and Licensed Professional Counsellor. Katie is featured by numerous media outlets including Poosh, Miranda Kerr's Kora Organics and Goop - who called her readings “eerily accurate”. Katie is based in the US. As part of her acclaimed readings, she creates a detailed, multi-page report and intuitive soul painting knowing only a person's name and age. She has over 30 years of experience helping people all over the world transform their lives and their health. I don't know if you've heard of a medical intuitive before, but this is someone with psychic abilities. who uses these abilities for greater insight into some aspect of well-being. No one is suggesting that medical intuitives can replace consultations with doctors, psychiatrists, nutritionists, or any kind of medical professional. But if you value the role of gut instinct and following your own intuition, you probably get a sense of the incredible power in listening to this. Katie has had intuitive, empathic and medium abilities since she was a young child but was fearful of them until she entered therapy with a Jungian Psychologist for an eating disorder at the age of 16. Extraordinarily, Katie reached out for help on her own, independently from her parents., which was a brave and bold decision. Katie found that developing bulimia and depression, although taking her to a very dark place at the time, ultimately it was one of the best things that happened to her. Through healing in therapy, Katie learned how to connect to her intuition, accept and understand her intuitive and psychic gifts and find self-love and acceptance. This foundational healing work also inspired Katie for her later work with clients as both a therapist and medical intuitive. Katie powerfully believes that connection to intuition, self-love and self-acceptance can be a channel for anything, including healing. She has documented success with many illnesses including Lyme Disease (self-recovered), digestive issues, cancer, viruses, autoimmune diseases, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, adolescent and childhood concerns and other issues. Katie has also written a book about her work as a Medical Intuitive and how others can heal and enhance their lives using the same techniques she uses in her readings. It is called Heal from Within: A Guidebook to Intuitive Wellness. This is a fascinating insight into a different way of approaching healing. Katie's story and work is inspiring and will offer reflections and encouraging perspectives that many of you will relate to. In the episode today, we will be hearing about Katie's eating disorder recovery story; we'll talk about the valuable work she does today with her clients, as a medical and spiritual intuitive; we'll talk more about her book; and we'll delve deep in body image issues, whilst also reflecting on how our bodies change with ageing and how to cope with this, in a youth-obsessed world. I hope that you enjoy the conversation. Have you considered offering in-home therapy services to your clients? Is that something that could work with your Canadian private practice? How can you offer this service to help your clients while maintaining your safety? Therapy can take on many shapes and sizes, from in-session talking to helping a client recovering from OCD reorganise their home. In this podcast episode, I discuss this method with Victoria Rodriguez, who has years of experience. MEET VICTORIA RODRIGUEZ Victoria (she/her/hers) LPC, CCTP, NCC is a Licensed Professional Counsellor in private practice in Louisiana who specializes in career counselling and trauma treatment for healthcare professionals. Drawing on her experiences and academic research on home-based therapy, she also helps home health and community mental health professionals navigate in-home services confidently and safely through online workshops. Learn more about Victoria on her website. In this episode: Theory to practice The insights of in-home therapy services Practicing safety as an in-home therapist The benefits of in-home therapy Theory to practice With providing in-home therapy, there is no one modality to therapy. Counsellors who provide in-home therapy services need to find their own bridge between the counselling theory that they align with and how it shapes their counselling sessions. Having an understanding of counselling theory and where you stand with it can help you tremendously if you decide to provide in-home counselling. If you want to delve deeper into finding out which counselling theories you work best with, and could better inform your therapy practice, check out this theoretical fit quiz to find your strengths. The insights of in-home therapy services Having a therapist visit the client in their home can provide a huge amount of benefits and insight that are valuable to the therapy. The therapist can see the client's living environment, and whom they live with, and detect a small piece of their quality of life – all of which adds a lot of nuance and depth to the therapy that the therapist can provide clients with. Another pro of offering in-home therapy services is that it makes therapy so much more accessible. Some clients may be injured, bed-bound, or unable to travel long distances and still need and desire counselling services. Practicing safety as an in-home therapist If you are travelling between client homes to offer and provide therapy to clients, there will be moments where you need to make a decision based on your safety.. Determine if the situation that you are about to enter is safe for you, if it isn't, refer the client to another therapist. You can also develop a safety plan and checklist for yourself. Some of the safety checklist steps include: Backing up into a client's driveway so that you can leave quickly if you need to Phoning the client before the session to check that they are home and if they have any additional family or visitors in the home Situate yourself to the closest exist possible without having the client block an additional exit Avoid sitting between two family members Don't sit in a poorly lit area in your car to finish notes after the session Share your location with your supervisor or colleague The benefits of in-home therapy Some benefits for the therapist include being in control of your schedule because you can take in-home clients whenever you choose to (and have telehealth sessions in between). The benefits for clients, however, are fantastic. Some therapists that offer in-home therapy sometimes offer cooking therapy with their clients, trauma-informed yoga, and even eco-therapy! Is freedom something that can be achieved through mindset alone? On todays episode of the podcast, I am joined by the wonderful Patricia Berry Jones. When it comes to talking about vulnerability, openness and acceptance – I can't think of a more perfect guest to have had this conversation with. Patricia speaks some real truths in this episode and I think we could all learn a little something from her life experience - I know I did!In the episode, you will hear us cover:How this project came along at the right time in Patricia's life for her to tell her story. Why being vulnerable and allowing yourself to open up, can be the thing that heals you.How we can become stronger if we learn to ignore judgement and the opinions of others. ”This project has changed me to be free. To be free emotionally, mentally, and physically. I feel free to be myself to be vulnerable. And it's okay whether anyone approves of me or not, because I don't live by what they approve by any longer. I live for Pat, and that feels good.” - Patricia Berry Jones “I think that's the trap of someone's life that they really need to own. That those things aren't defining moments in the sense that they make you who you are. It happened to you, but it is not who you are.” - Dr. Shana D. Lewis “I was able to be authentic, to be real, with other women that don't even know. Some of them I didn't even know until this moment, at this time. And it felt good that I could be me. Open up and be real. Don't have to pretend.” - Patricia Berry Jones Patricia is a Licensed Professional Counsellor at Sunrise Professional Counselling & Consulting, where her practice focuses on trauma, grief, and loss for women 25 years and older. Episode 40 with Lindsay Fleming. "When I come up with an idea, I don't think twice — then suddenly I've got a whole business plan." Lindsay is a Licensed Professional Counsellor who owns her own private practice in Chicago. If you've ever fallen down any ADHD rabbit holes on TikTok, then you've probably come across Lindsay on your For You Page. Lindsay's videos de-stigmatize ADHD, anxiety, trauma and the therapy experience, especially for young people. She does an incredible job connecting with and helping children, teens, and young adults struggling with mental health. As of this recording, she has nearly half a million followers on TikTok, and she's also been featured on the TODAY show, Cosmopolitan, the New York Times, and more. We talk about her own ADHD diagnosis and mental health journey. Also, since I am the parent of a 14yo girl, I also grill Lindsay all about how platforms like TikTok are being used by mental health professionals to reach this generation and normalize therapy and mental health. This episode is sponsored by Let's Conquer Motherhood, the online membership program for mums, with Lisa York. Mum-of-two Renee Avis has the life-altering job of helping women who are struggling with body image, post-partum depression and anxiety, and eating disorders. As a Licensed Professional Counsellor she helps clients recognise their condition, and learn how to accept and love their bodies again. Fulfilling her passion as a therapist, Renee's worked in treatment facilities and private practice for 12 years. She teams up with dieticians to support her patients in their journey from understanding and accepting their struggles to regaining control and achieving a healthier balance with food and nutrition. Renee explains that an eating disorder massively impacts behaviour and lifestyle on a daily basis, so helps her clients dig deep to explore the internal narrative that may be stopping them from being kinder to themselves. One step at a time, she helps them to reframe their thinking and to start focusing on the self-care activities that they resonate with, which ultimately enables them accept their body more. In this episode, you'll learn to pick up on the important clues that could indicate that you, or a fellow mum, is struggling with an eating disorder. You'll understand how loneliness and depression can be both a cause and an effect of an eating disorder, and how unrealistic expectations and unhelpful ideals in society may be stopping you from accepting your post-partum body. Whether you have an eating disorder or not, you'll discover how important it is to tune in and listen to your body and the signals it's sending you to. By doing so, you'll learn how to accept and love your body, wobbly bits and all.
