Michael Dubois and Cool Movies Darth pick up where they left off with their discussion inspired by Mel Brooks's debut feature, "The Producers". The conversation starts with  exploring Zero Mostel's portrayal of Max Bialystock and his pension for seducing pensioners to fund his films. This leads into CM Darth's salacious adulthood, satirical takes towards parents, and "Star Wars" fandom. It only seems appropriate to attach a review for "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" to this podcast.

THE PRODUCERS COMPOSER: Mel Brooks LYRICIST: Mel Brooks BOOK: Mel Brooks, Thomas Meehan SOURCE: Mel Brooks' film The Producers (1967) DIRECTOR: Susan Stroman CHOREOGRAPHER: Susan Stroman PRINCIPLE CAST: Matthew Broderick (Leo), Cady Huffman (Ulla), Nathan Lane (Max) OPENING DATE: Apr 19, 2001 CLOSING DATE: Apr 22, 2007 PERFORMANCES: 2,502 SYNOPSIS: Broke Broadway producer Max Bialystock meets accountant Leo Bloom who offhandedly mentions that under the right circumstances a Broadway show that fails could make more money than one that succeeds. Seeing a way out of his current financial situation, Max decided to produce a musical that is guaranteed to flop: Springtime for Hitler.  Finding waning success in Hollywood, Mel Brooks was eventually convinced to adapt his Academy Award winning screenplay, The Producers, into a musical. Kasey RT Graham follows the ways Brooks, director Susan Stroman, and co-writer Thomas Meehan reinterpreted the cult classic film into a two act Broadway musical. Additionally, analysis of The Producers as a uniquely comic piece among the weightier subject matters of other popular Broadway musicals in the early 2000s and a look at how the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center affected attendance at Broadway shows is provided. The musical's record-breaking success at the Tony Awards, including for Nathan Lane, heralded a wave of musical comedies based on Hollywood films such as Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hairspray, and Shrek.  Kasey RT Graham is a director, music director, writer, and educator. Associate and resident director credits include the Broadway revival of On the 20th Century, the national tour of The Phantom of the Opera, and the US and Australian tours of Dirty Dancing. Conducting credits include the national tours of Oklahoma, The Producers, The Wizard of Oz, and Spring Awakening. Kasey is head of the Musical Theatre department at the University of Nevada - Reno. When the film was brought to Broadway as a musical, it broke records! And when we got the 2005 Producer's movie....well it flopped harder than Max Bialystock's "Funny Boy". In this audio reenactment of the hilarious scene from the original film of "The Producers", by Mel Brooks, Max Bialystock, a down-and-out theatrical producer, meets Leo Bloom, a young accountant, sent to do his books. Just a few moments before this scene begins, Leo had walked into Bialy's office, and witnessed the older man in a somewhat compromising position with a much older lady. In the course of this later encounter, Bialy and Leo spar verbally over business and ethics, and whether the two have ever met. Featuring Pete Lutz as Bialystock and Jordan Bruster as Bloom, recorded (over Skype) specially for the entertainment of COVID-19 shut-ins. Enjoy!   We do not own the rights to this work, and infringement is not intended.

Sean Cullen is one of Canada’s finest comedic minds. His comedy/music act Corky And The Juice Pigs have played everywhere from Edinburgh Fringe, Just For Laughs (Montreal), to MadTV. Solo, he is one of my all-time favourite comedians to watch. He riffs like a master and his mind is as sharp as the oldest stilton. He has been on a ton of TV, including The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Match Game, had his own TV show on CBC, He’s even performed in musicals, such as the starring role of Max Bialystock in The Producers. Tony Award-winning actor Nathan Lane charts the course of his career, from touring New Jersey schools in the historical musical "Jerz" to starring on Broadway as the President of the United States in David Mamet's comedy "November". Scott's production of "Present Laughter"; discusses a few of the quirks of his next big show, the musical "Merlin"; considers his longstanding partnerships with both playwright Terrence McNally (revealing the only play that McNally specifically wrote for him) and director Jerry Zaks; chronicles his challenging and charmed experience as Max Bialystock in the musical "The Producers" on Broadway and in London; and reflects on the impact of "Butley" -- first when he saw it as a teenager, and later when he took on the title role in the play's Broadway revival.
