Bust out the pancakes, ready for their stolen syrup worth $6 million, as Presley and Andrew discuss this black comedy about a syrup heist. All our Links: https://linktr.ee/seasononepodSeason Spoiler Synopsis: The Sticky is a 2024 Amazon Prime black comedy series based in Quebec, Canada. We follow Ruth Landry (Margo Martindale), a maple syrup farmer who finds her farm under threat as she works tirelessly to keep it going after her husband Martin fell into a coma. The leader of the Quebec Maple Association Leonard Gauthier threatened to close down the farm because technically she is running it, and it's in her husbands name. Remy Bouchard, the QMA's sole security guard, advocates for a bigger security team at the QMA but is rudely shot down by Leonard and his son Leo. Little do they know, Remy and his friend Orval have been stealing one barrel per month and making money on the side in the black market. Mike Byrne is a wannabe mobster who found himself on assignment to house sit for Charlie, his boss, after making a mistake during a heist. Remy has an idea--steal one million dollars worth of syrup from the QMA's stores before they close down the facility after harvest. While out at his birthday dinner, Remy overhears Mike on the phone discussing work when he mentioned a crime family's last name. Remy then approaches Mike with an opportunity: a maple syrup heist. Mike murders Orval to keep the heist contained to people he can trust. In a moment of frustration with Remy's uncertainty about their heist after Orval's murder, Mike puts Remy's blood soaked mittens back in their house to frame Remy. Mike approaches Ruth with an opportunity to join the heist and get some cash to save her farm. A big city cop is called in to investigate the murder of Remy's friend, leading Ruth, Remy, and Mike to race the police to a storage unit where the stolen barrels were being hidden. The group is able to narrowly get the barrels out of the storage unit and save their hides for a little while longer, until Leo introduces Remy to the new head of security at the QMA. Mike plans to kill Gary to resolve their personnel problem, while both Remy and Ruth urge him to be less violent. They agree that Remy will draw Gary out and Mike will just break one of his legs, putting him out of commission long enough to pull of their heist which must take place within a few days. Remy and Gary are checking Gary's traps when they have a heart to heart and Gary decides he'll quit because Remy was slighted by being sidestepped on a promotion. Mike goes off book and tries to shoot Gary dead to solve their problem, which results in Gary beating up Mike and Mike ultimately slipping away. Mike's actions and the unrest in the town attract a member of Mike's crime organization Bo to investigate. Bo interrogates Mike, Ruth, and Remy to uncover what they've been up to and takes over her supposed heist. Bo outs Mike as a screw-up and tells the story of his nickname, Lollipop. While Bo is upstairs chatting with Charlie, Mike, Ruth, and Remy argue loudly. Bo slams her cane into the ground to get them to shut up which snaps it and she flips over the balcony railing, falling to her supposed death. Mike hides Bo's body in a chest freezer in the garage and the next day is questioned by the police, who see some blood on the freezer. They check the freezer to find it empty much to both Mike's relief and dismay. Ruth, Remy, and Mike change their heist plan to steal the syrup via tanker in the middle of the harvest festival instead of doing it overnight. While the QMA festival is taking place and the farmers become aggressive, the crew is stealing syrup. Hearing the chants of the farmers, the crew realizes that they are on their way to the Association to take back their syrup. Ruth acts quickly to syphon some gas and throw a molotov cocktail at the foundation of a building the Association was building, creating a distraction. The crew finishes up and barely makes away with almost two full tanks of syrup while Remy's father is arrested for the murder of Orval and Bo is seen bloodied and bruised approaching Martin's hospital bed.

And then there were two. With the departure of Mike Byrne and Nicole Fiorentino, Corgan led the charge with guitarist Jeff Schroeder to make 2014's Monuments To An Elegy. An album with nods to its rock past as well as the Pumpkins' synthy future. Joining Frank as guest co-host to do a track-by-track breakdown of this album is former guest of the 'kast, Stephen Patrick Zapata-Kelly! Down a drummer, Corgan & Schroeder turned to Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee for an assist to achieve the bombastic and skilled attack needed to match the energy of the songs (as well as Rage Against The Machine's Brad Wilk on drums and The Killer's Mark Stoermer on bass for live shows). As the Teargarden project aspirations faded away (and with the subsequent abandonment of the Day For Night album), the future of the Pumpkins was looking dire once again. Luckily, time has shown that the Pumpkins are still going strong and with hindsight, a revisit of Monuments yields great rewards. Especially for fans who may not love the sounds of CYR or Atum (even though we get some glances in a few of Monuments' tracks). Ultimately, Monuments is an album that Stephen and Frank agree is "like a good slice of pizza". Lover, you're strange if you miss this episode! How to support the 'kast: NEW ! Mike Byrne created The Beatles Story Exhibition in Liverpool in 1990 with his wife, Bernadette, who was a Cavern Club regular who knew the Beatles well in the early years and became one of the first official Beatles Guides in Liverpool. Mike was a fellow Merseybeat musician, who went on to work in marketing, theatre and promotions. He saw the huge potential of Beatles tourism through what Bernadette was doing as a guide and became the manager of Beatle City – an ill-fated exhibition of memorabilia which he took on tour to Dallas, Texas in 1987.Mike was determined that Liverpool would have its own permanent Beatles exhibition, but found the Liverpool tourism board apathetic. Mike and Bernadette realized they would have to do it themselves, eventually raising funding. Creating the exhibition presented a multitude of challenges and hurdles, not least of which was securing permission from The Beatles!Their vision was to create an immersive experience that conveyed the feelings and emotions of key periods in the Beatles' career. They wanted people to see it, hear it and feel it! The result was 18 different features including a replica Cavern Club, a street in Hamburg, and an interactive Yellow Submarine with an Octopus' Garden. The exhibition has had over 5 million visitors to date and is the most successful Beatles Exhibition in the world. Mike and Bernadette have written a book about their lives and the creation of the exhibition called The Birth of The Beatles Story, which is a fascinating, deep dive into the early years of the Beatles and how the exhibition in Liverpool came into being.

Yod He Vau He Om, Pumpkinheads! Today on the 'kast, we cover the critically acclaimed, post-reformation fan-favorite album OCEANIA! An album so special, Frank and Pat just had to assemble in person at Pumpkast HQ to dive head first into its briny depths. Frank and Pat discuss "deep" concepts like the "God umbrella," the beautiful truth of the lyric, "everything I want is free," and the spiritual connection "Pale Horse" has to "Adore." All that plus a possible nod to the Italian horror classic "Suspiria" and some speculation as to exactly what kind of "Special K" we're talking about on "The Celestials" (wouldn't be the first time Billy made reference to a beloved breakfast food – Pop Tarts, anyone?). We also thoroughly sing the praises of this incarnation of the band, which included Jeff "The Shredder" Schroeder, Mike Byrne's undeniable drum chops and the incredible bass contributions and backing vocals of Nicole Fiorentino. Before we dive in for the track-by-track breakdown of Oceania, we take some time to cover the history of the album and this particular era of the Pumpkins. Joining Frank as guest co-host this episode is previous Pumpkast roundtable guest and dedicated Pumpkinhead Kim Rosas! In addition to covering the history of the Oceania era, Frank & Kim discuss their Pumpkin fandom around 2012 (and now), what it was like waiting for the song you wanted to listen to/record on the radio in the 90s, an unusual gymnasium SP show at the Florida State Fair and how the music of Billy/SP feels like fate and why we're devout members of the Church of Pumpkins (Churchkins?). Plus, we give mad props to the impossible task Mike Byrne found himself in and throw in some much-deserved love and praise for bassist Nicole Fiorentino and guitarist Jeff Schroeder. I'm joined for this episode by Bernadette and Mike Byrne, who tell us two stories via their book 'The Birth of The Beatles Story'. Firstly, Bernadette was a Beatles fan from the Cavern, and tells us stories of their adventures in Liverpool, and how she ended up as George Harrison's girlfriend. Secondly, after noticing an influx of Beatle tourists in Liverpool through the 80's, Mike and Bernie hatch the idea for the The Beatles Story museum, an attraction on the Albert Dock which has gone on to have over 5 million visitors.

All empires decline, but the U.S. empire is living up to all of its predictions. The National Intelligence Council published a report titled, "Global Trends 2030" predicting that by 2030 the U.S. would no longer be a superpower. By then, our world will be a multi-polar world and the U.S. empire will continue to decline. Alfred McCoy's book, "In the Shadows of the American Century" outlines the U.S. empire's rise and fall with a detailed history relating it to all other empires. As empires rise and fall, we can find similar patterns. The U.S. empire as been on par with these trends. I speak with Mike Bryne about the decline of the American Empire, predictions of this decline, and we discuss McCoy's latest book to give an analysis of what the U.S. will experience in this decline. Mike is an antiwar activist based in Washington D.C. His writings focus on Anti-Imperialism, Anti-White Supremacy, and Anti-Zionism.
