Az is creeping closer NPRC grows a little, see how that works. New springs and I am in love News items 11/20 fall nationals, and a next day Maclan test day. RC Tip Of the Week (brought to you by Colin) Main Topic:   In my experience start with one of the preloaded tunes. Believe it or not Colin Branch and I made hundreds of hits trying to find a solid STARTING point to build from.  I am also a fan for first time hits to remove all turbo to keep things less complicated.    After that you have a few ways to go. You can begin increasing the first stage until you are spinning too hard on the hit or wheeling excessively.  Next I would begin shortening my stage delays in small amounts watching the data log and video for wheel spin.  Once I have tightened up my stages and got my first stage as high as feels solid for the car on the launch I will add the turbo.  For turbo I start with it at 100 percent throttle position and .1-.2 delay giving my battery pack a tiny bit more time to recover voltage before I start pouring in turbo timing. I use all 60 degrees and control it's input from the slew. Start out with a very low slew like 2-4 and increase it every run as the data and mph allow. From there you can begin bringing the turbo in sooner, maybe go from starting the turbo at 100 to starting it at 90  Data from the logger, a GNSS and video are the tools for all these adjustments and if I was to give you a general rule for tuning it would be    1. Make small single adjustments 2. Make 60 foot hits the majority of your runs when testing.  3. Make 2-3 hits on an adjustment before determining if it helped or not.  4. When making adjustments and things like et or mph are increasing like you want the second they don't you have hit the wall it's best to back it off a tiny bit and you'll have a solid car.    Featured Item of the week MKS HBL575SL brushless motor, 233 oz stall torque .0008ms DB 149.99 Thank you to MaxAmps, MKS Servo, Maclan racing, Graupner USA, CowRC, All you awesome fans, We love you all!

Pretty cool and seems to have went a bit under the radar with all the other awesome stuff going on during the event.   Kidd Sims Now that we have two mega races in the books. What could I (as a mega race promoter) improve on to insure everyone has a great time.   Chris Gilliland Track temps definitely played a role in traction for the event. How do you know when to turn it down?? Great meeting you finally!!   Willie Trent Tim Smith with it being a concrete surface I think a lot of people expected to see some record times being ran but that didn't exactly happen. I know the surface was good and had bite but was it also not as good as everyone expected? It looked really coarse and not as smooth as one would expect and seemed to being giving people trouble especially on the big end.   Kerry Adams First I want to say that was an awesome weekend. Second I wish Matt could have been there to see those sub 2 second runs. I would have liked to see the look on his face. Question is now is everyone ready for Colorado in July?   Jeremy Oldham Went no prep racing for my first time Sunday and now I'm hooked. First time I was right there with my car thanks to your show it went straight and fairly fast. Ok now for my question: What can we do to get Joe Zaier Jr to try drag racing?   Kerry Adams Oh and Tim you were so nice to chat with my girlfriend about sunburned ears.   Brad Waldrop It was great meeting you, i had a wonderful time can't wait for the next one!   Lonnie DeTurck Love your podcast. My question is on “discharge” before charging your battery to help IR and help the battery from dropping voltage. What do you recommend and if discharging is needed what unit do you recommend and at what rate to discharge. Thanks a bunch   Yeti B. What did you think of the firebird body?   Chip Puccio Slipper or slipper eliminator and why?   Brian Elkins Consistency or Send it? What do you think made it farther..   Yeti B. What is next for toy tim?     Rick Schaper Did you try stiffening up the rear suspension dampening for the added traction?   JC Myers I have a question about tires at bracket races. How do you recommend handling tires between rounds? Do you clean and prep 1 set or do you ever swap tires to save time. I always end up scrambling between rounds. Thanks and Love the show!   Joe Zaier Jr If the no prep cars are running the same times of a proper pro stock, what's the point of no prep? Read the G’s ET is off by about .15 but mph is on the money.   **Body battle: Malibu, Vette, IROC   IROC: Until this body came out the Vette was my choice for over all speed and aero dynamic smoothness but this one changes that and for me the IROC is the body to run if you have a 70 mph no prep car.   Vette: it looks aero dynamic and guess what it is, this body was the fastest body in the group averaging 1 mph faster speeds over the other two. The downside is this body likes to fly if you get the car just the tiniest bit sideways during braking, something I seem to do way too often due mostly to having to run on a spot with a short shut down area causing me to get into the brakes too hard too soon.   Malibu: boxy but flat sides make it stable going down the track and a tiny bit better during braking over the Vette   Featured Item of the week   Maclan SSI-065 battery powered soldering iron, small badass and under 100 bucks. 550°F $89.99     Thank you to MaxAmps, Maclan Racing, MKS Servo, CowRC, All you awesome fans, We love you all!

I did pull out too much slipper at the end of the day and causes it to get wild on the hit.   VP: Solid, what a pleasure it is to drive this car. The wheelie bar is AWESOME Told to make a link adjustment and it just made the car even more consistent.   JC belted were awesome   Tire prep is on point.   Bodies, the vette… I got it figured out so I don’t fly it in the air every run but it still feels a bit sketchy during breaking if you don’t go light on the breaks   The Malibu, I have no idea if this body is poor aerodynamically but on the track it’s the most stable thing I have ever run. It does have a blunt nose but the sides are pretty flat and the hood, roof and decklid are flat and allow for a larger amount of air flow which will make downforce.   Switched the vette off the VP and put the Malibu on,   UC gets the Cuda   Magnets all around!! This is the best way to mount a body for SO with tech and BS   Next step? More power! Radios with this function allow the user to reverse the output of the servo. This is useful when you switch the radio system between vehicles that may use different servo placement or orientation.     Main Topic:   Arrow talk…. So, it works wide and then it doesn’t… WTF Before we go down the Arrow timeline let me make it clear, I have set up MANY race cars I know a couple of people have had success with them but I should point out a few things not to knock them down but to remove this any doubt I didn’t start in RC yesterday. The issue is I am a trier and don’t like to be defeated, it would have been VERY easy to put this car on the shelf and never touch it again but I knew something was wrong and I wanted to know what it is… It feels like it’s all going away from me, like I am standing on a dock in a bay as the ship slowly pulls out. Do I jump in and swim for it before it gets too far away or just let it sail?   Lets go down the list of things I have done, sort of an Arrow timeline Got the car long before anyone else and boy was a shocked… it was thin and flexible… Boo Started changing everything but really needed a thick chassis. Got a thick chassis and it worked wide, Then I went for a narrow car…. Where did it go and why do I have everything breaking now? Had to re-find the car when I finally went back wide, and the car worked…. Where the issues really are……… First run brass hubs might have been all my issue. Diff going locked to 200K, tire rubs, all these problems….     13.5 class, it looks fun and I really didn’t think I would build anything for it but guess what? The Vega body came out and now I am building one….. Motor, 3D printed from Monster RC parts Exhaust (where to put it) lights (I am getting out of control) Still need to figure out a rear spoiler Going scale is NOT cheap…… Well if you go scale like I go scale…. Magnets the worlds greatest body mounting system (12 lbs for the win) And I managed to bust up the 13.5 so that should tell you something about my street and this Arrow car…. The street is just simply off limits I must realize that. ROAR motors…. Why do we have to deal with this… I must find a place to test or I will never get up to speed.   Vanishing point car (MIP B5 trans case)   Undercover car, both associated based. This feature protects the driveline from excessive wear and, when set properly, makes it easier to drive in loose conditions.     Main Topic:       Did another cash day and well I am consistent…. First round looser, this time at least it was to a fast car… Tyler is doing a great job, we are all seeing racing out here grow and that’s awesome, New people new fun.   Got to do testing and it went great! Met a bunch of new folks and all where super cool, I have no idea what everyone’s name is but I look forward to getting to test with them again.   Good lord it was hot   So, lets talk about the arrow car, I finally LOVE IT!   Shocks (front 62mm, 80wt; rear 75mm, 80wt)   Motor and ESC (RSPro black, 4.5 Eliminator)   The chassis likes Rake   Slipper and transmission (locked diff “no more leaking diff..) Built a new transmission and things are better... weird. The slipper… I don’t even want to talk about it but here goes. It’s a VTS Revolution slipper an so far its worked for me but I am not sure any slipper wouldn’t have worked it was the first I tired.   Thank you to Troy and James for so much help and guidance.   When I went to Az it was to learn and man did I ever, plus all these guys were very open to helping. James has been nothing but help with ideas and very open to what he is doing and what’s worked (friend?). I can’t thank him enough for the help and Troy for encouraging me to try a slipper.   Tire warmers, oh BOY those guys use them and now I see why! The benefits of using one are higher then the cost to me.   Tire gluing machine is wonderful, now that I have used it a few times its pretty great.   Found some new wheels I really like that have massive offset (proline f11)   Belted tires and my battle with the car wanting to turn left at halftrack. My bodies are too low.   I did score over 47k views on the video of my care spinning down the track, but I also learned what the heck is going on with my car. Made Gabe’s day… some people…..   Can I run non belted again? I am not sure, but I hope so.   I do love that I feel good inside that I have a solid game plan for the car each run. I know I am at the beginning, but it feels closer.   MaxAmps 4750 Graphene shorties are so great I often over look what I have in battery power!   Testing adjustments   Now I need more power (how are you going to do that?)   Maybe some teeth on the pinion   Do we need to build a dyno yet?   No More Street Hits!   Car weight is 2060 grams with all the brass add on and the thick chassis. 2300 with a body   What body, I am not in love with the Shark at all and if my wife had not made such a big deal about how she loves it I would have already tossed it, But I want to run a real looking car so now what? What do we have to pick from?   Its Finally a RACE CAR! That took a while for me to come around on but I am here, so much so I put stickers on my chassis and when I do that its because I see it as a race car now.   The track vs no prep, is track racing dead? Well it kind of was but now with Covid and all the fun of manufactures making parts for no prep (never for track cars) track drag racing was just passed up like it always has been. Long days and high cost to win what a plaque at best?   This Saturday is a cash race in Simi valley (2 hours away) To go or not to go How much could you win if you had a fast car and just spent your time going from cash race to cash race?   Featured Item of the week   Muchmore tire warmer…. For instance, a 32-pitch pinion gear has larger teeth than a 48-pitch gear. The number represents how many teeth per inch.     Main Topic:     Arizona Cash Night.   The drive up was uneventful   Get to see Todd and its HOT   Another wife takes me out in first round… Is this my new thing?   No freeway over pass lights made a dark rack so not many photos or video   Ran the DB10 into a light pole then won the next round.   I ran the DB10 and it wheelies a lot so I learned something about roads, flat vs crowns and wheelie cars vs driver cars. So much being learned every time I go out and this is 100% the reason I wanted to get to racing even if I really am not at a level to win anything. The DB10 was a cone lover…..   I did run the Arrow after the event had wrapped up and made about 15 hits in a row. There are external sources that cause glitches, (like overhead power lines,) but consistent glitching is most likely the result of something in the vehicle itself, such as metal-to-metal rubbing as you might find with control linkages.   Main Topic:   Pre race drama as always. Plus even more RC fun with Tim and Matt! Hang on kids the shows are coming Fast and Furious!      TSR podcast Episode “King of the Streets Part 2” Hosts: Tim Smith and Matt Howsen Guests: Tyler and Coy     Show introduction and welcome.     Tim Notes:   Johnny and his camel killing fun in Irac.   News items       RC Word Of the Week (brought to you by RC Driver) Milliamp (mAh) This is a rating for batteries. The higher the milliamp rating, the longer the cell can provide power. Currently, most RC batteries range from 1500 to 3300 milliamp hours. Main Topic:   Main topic:   How did the two of you (coy/tyler) hook up?   How did you get the idea to have this race?   What made you think charging 100 bucks a car would work?   When did you realize it was becoming something special in the RC world?   What do you see coming from this event?   Do you plan to do more than just this one once a year? The event seemed great, was there anything you felt unprepared for?     Were you as shocked as me that no police or even security came to see what 150 people were doing in a big parking lot on a Saturday afternoon?    Questions:   Josh Twist: not a question but it was awesome to hear your story about Jimmy Jet   Gary Unser: More Jimmy Jet   John Mcmasters: You should get Jimmy on the show somehow.   Phillip Staab: Tyler and Coy two of my favorite guys in all of RC. What surprised you most about the KoS race? I know neither of you competed in the race but was it still fun?   Stephen Nicholson: your thoughts on slick tires vs treaded tires. Which do you prefer and do you think one has an advantage over the other?     Mike asks: What’s the difference between a SC10 based chassis and the newer DB10 based one. Biggest minus if one used the older style SC10 era?   Jeremiah Bacon Sahlberg: is there a motor limit in no prep drag racing. I am thinking of getting the hobbywing stock system. Also do you remember a podcast called cooking with Nitro it was many years ago.   Jeff Mcdowell: Can we get a tri-state series set up? Vegas, Phoenix, Elsinore? Gary Unser: Super Stock class, discuss the class and rules.   Erik Denk: Race looked amazing. Good job on helping the young gunner out by giving him a body. That is what this hobby needs more of “people being great ambassadors of the hobby they love and want to see flourish” Well done Tim smith hope you make it out to Az so we can show you how we do it here, Keep up the good work!   Bryan Tilson: big wings and tire goop, discuss?   Brad Reeves: when is the JConcetps camaro body going to be released?   John Shultz: are you building a big wing for your car?   Phillip Staab: It was great meeting you in Vegas, after racing with the fastest street outlaw cars in the nation what are your thoughts? Giant rear wings the same as a gyro?   Jake Rosen: after building all the excitement did you have fun?   Dennis Coleman: did you use tire sauce at the KoS? What type of tires were the Hawaii guys running?   Frank Chiechi: is ther any advantage to these after market chassis?   Jake Rosen: ok, serious question here: NPRC has brought more new people into rc drag racing then anything ever has. Will the traditional drag racers be able to attract some of these new people to the solid axle foam tire super fast cars?    Featured Item of the week   New JConcepts Camaro body   Thank you to MaxAmps, MKS Servo, Tekin racing, Graupner USA, CowRC, All you awesome fans, We love you all!

Here we go kids, The KING of the Streets! This truly was the greatest RC event I have ever witnessed and Boy oh Boy do I have stories.  Plus I got a chance to find out what the other half live like as I attended the DNC (Dirt Nitro Challenge) a week earlier. Wow what an RC world I have been in, sit back and relax because there is a lot to cover.   Enjoy, love Tim and Matt   TSR podcast Episode Hosts: Tim Smith and Matt Howson This week:  The King Of The Streets   Tim Notes:   The dirt nitro challenge, good time talking to all kinds of pro guys, Ryan Mayfield and Jason Rona to name a few. It wasn’t as big as I thought it would be, but I guess that’s how it works. Meet Keenan from No name Podcast and or course JQ was there, that was odd and a bit uncomfortable… Went to the parking lot to do some hits and it was like the moons surface but she ripped right down the middle.   Most people would leave their stuff alone with a huge race coming up but not this clown…. So I tired to add some more power at home at night in the dark and backed her into the curb seemily destroying everything… I have rolled this car over and over and not broke this much stuff….   Two days out and I smash the car all up. The parts list…. The wheelie bar, Jake performance for the save, or is it! Well if I got no parts I might as well go with the boss to the bar and have a few beers… not my best idea… I couldn’t quite get it squire and no time to do hits I had to guess and go with it…   The out pouring of support for this was crazy, cars parts anything I needed people were offering left and right. Thank you to all of you for offering it was humbling to say the least.   News items     RC Word of the Week “Brought to you by RC Driver Magazine”   Oversteer The condition that’s usually present when the rear wheels lose traction before the front wheels ending up with the rear of your vehicles swinging around through turns. Adjusting shocks, stickier tires or more rear down force are some possible solutions.   Main topic   King of the streets   The drive up, aka Jimmy Jet Nelison, baker California what on earth was this guy doing here?   Of course I was late, what can you expect from me?   I couldn’t believe my eyes when we drove in. More cars and people then I ever imagined on a free parking lot   A little testing and no one seemed crazy fast in fact the cars were a little loose on this parking lot so we all had to turn down a bit to make it happen.   Chip draw round one, me vs the lumber jack from Sonoma, yies! The car goes left… Lots of good cars fell out in the first round, maybe trying to go a bit too fast out of the box or nerviorness, I know I was.   Find a penny pick it up, Round two the bye draw!! Red 7! The car goes right…   The warrior round, the battery. Guess what the car went right…   Now that’s over let the fun begin! Time to talk and giveaway some stuff. First up the car body.   More batteries, lol I am going to run out of stuff.  My sneak leave of a MKS 550 servo   Paul willhite from Proline, thank you for the support.   Associated Thank you for the Great support.   RC bombshells NPRC chapters, Hawaii, Colorado, Arizona, Sonoma, Socal, Oklahoma, Texas and so many more. Sorry I was not able to get around to talk to everyone.   What did I learn and see, belted tires, laydown and reverse gear boxes, shock oils and stiffness,   The finals, Ricky Bellotti  vs  jeff mcdowell, chip draw, lane choice and off we go! 420 2nd, 3880 1st, Largest pay out for a single race event?   Now that all the is over lets do some grudge racing and win some money! I managed to get into about 8 races and think I won them all. I slowly got the car dialed in a bit but something is wrong with it… I did squeeze a couple hundred bucks out of the folks. Then with one battery left I pulled it out and off it went to a new home.  So I went home with two less bodies and three less batteries  and one less MKS 550… lol hope I don’t get into trouble J now I need new batteries. Oh and I think I killed my ESC, on the last race I made (which I won J in the shut down she gave up. But I did run the crap out of it and got it too hot. Maybe back to the four pole and where to go from there?   My Hawaiian friends, people from everywhere it was mind blowing what I was witnessing, it was a grand historical event in RC and I was part of it. That all happened on a free parking lot! They took no money and man did they run an efficient race, holy Cow it was great and all done by basically three people.   John Shultz and that whole total mess, time to set the record straight….   Back to the race and awesome it was,  so many to thank,  I had to make a list, Tyler, Ashley, Coy, Shawn, My wife, John and Jonathan, Philip, Ricky on his win and the whole Sonoma crew, my new Hawaiian brothers, the cops for never coming or caring what we were doing.   Wrap up the drive home was nice actually to really sort through all that had just happened, I though to myself that moving when I was getting dressed that this day was going to be filled with lots of emotions and  I was excited to see what came from it. Well it was perfect and everything was so good I couldn’t think I a thing I would change even from the free parking lot and the weird fear that at any moment the cops could show up and run us all off, I could only think that there so many of us they all just assumed we rented it or somehitng. Historical, epic high lights in RC all the words work for what this event was. It was the perfect storm of timing and people and I only hope this is the start a  great thing in Rc and not a once in a lifetime stick of lighting, I don’t think that is the case I think this was more of the welcome to the world moment for RC drag racing. So long it had been hiding in the shadows of these weird hand made cars that didn’t look like real race cars people outside of hard core drag racing would recognize but this street outlaw thing was just a perfect thing for the time and the people and it’s the most exciting thing in RC and I think this event should show that. Think about it this was a free parking lot we just showed up in. All the promotion was done on social media or the podcast so again free. The people that ran the show, the dream team did take any of the pot for their effort, normally the winners give 10-15% of the win to the race host as a thank you but I don’t know if that happened, I hope it did. But look at this event, 43 cars for one class, at least 150+ people many just came out to watch and see what and or who would actually show up for this race. Just mind blowing to me.   Facebook Questions   Featured Item of the week   MaxAmps 4750mah 2 cell grapheme shorty, 89 bucks and they are awesome!   Thanks to: MaxAmps, MKS Servos, Gruapner, CowRC, Tekin, Team TSR and all the Fans!
