In this episode of Outlander Cast, Mary and Blake react to listener feedback for Outlander Season 8 Episode 4, "Muskets, Liberty, and Sauerkraut." The fandom is clearly split: some listeners thought this was the best episode of the season so far, while others agreed with Blake that it felt more like a setup hour than a true turning-point episode. Along the way, Mary and Blake get into the big Fergus/Comte reveal, Buck's return, the Claire/Fanny/Faith thread, William and Amaranthus making everybody uncomfortable, and Roger once again finding himself in chaos. :contentReference[oaicite:5]{index=5} This is one of those great feedback episodes where the full Outlander community really shows up. There are reactions from book readers, show watchers, longtime listeners, first-time callers, and listeners from all over — including Scotland, Portugal, Norway, Oregon, Texas, Pennsylvania, and more. If you want a real cross-section of how people are feeling about Episode 4, this is the one. :contentReference[oaicite:6]{index=6} Support the show and get bonus episodes, deeper discussion, and extra analysis at JoinTheNerdClan.com. Hi, y'all - Allison and Julie discuss Outlander, season eight episode 4 "Muskets, Liberty and Sauerkraut." First of all, stop the sauerkraut slander! B) Great scene work from Sophie Skelton and Charles Vandervaart. 3) All hail, Queen Elsbeth (Frances Tomelty)! Finally, the word for the belty-hangy-thingy is a chatelaine. They look pretty cool. Joe and Megan share their humble thoughts regarding Outlander Season 8 Episode 4 entitled Muskets, Liberty, and Sauerkraut
In this episode of Outlander Cast, Mary and Blake break down Outlander Season 8 Episode 4, "Muskets, Liberty, and Sauerkraut," and ask the big question: does Fergus learning he may be the Comte St. Germain's son actually deepen the season, or is it just classic premium-grade Outlander soap? They dig into Fergus and Marsali, Buck's surprise return, Lord John continuing to be one of the most human characters on the board, the Claire/Fanny/Faith thread the show keeps teasing, and why Jamie and Ian's goodbye works better as a scene than the prayer that follows it. Mary comes in much hotter on the episode than Blake, so there's real disagreement in this one too. They also get into why William and Amaranthus feel completely out of pocket right now, whether Percy is telling the truth, and why Roger keeps getting thrown into chaos every five minutes. Mary's Kilt Rating: 4.8 / 5 Blake's Kilt Rating: 3.99 / 5 You can support the show and get all our bonus content at JoinTheNerdClan.com. Full spoilers for Outlander Season 8 Episode 4. Unfortunately the lads were only able to record a bonus this week but they have ensured it's a super, extra chunky one. This week we get to learn that Darren eats cubes of mashed potatoes and Joe gives us a potted history of firearms. It also seems his ecent rant about mechanics set the wheels in motion for a listener...or not as this case may be. Ed remixes a classic radio jingle for the episode and it meets with a brutal response . If you've any questions for the lads fire them in to stallit@goloudnow.com
Send us a textEpisode 247Before treaties were signed and borders were fixed on maps, power in Aotearoa was measured in mana — authority earned, defended, and sometimes taken by force. Few figures embodied that struggle more clearly than Hōne Heke.Born into a high-ranking Ngāpuhi family in the early nineteenth century, Hōne Heke came of age during a time of enormous change. Muskets were reshaping warfare, missionaries were reshaping belief, and the British Empire was beginning to reshape the future of Māori land and leadership. Heke was intelligent, restless, and deeply political. He understood the new world arriving on New Zealand's shores better than many of the men who claimed to rule it.To some, he was a rebel. To others, a patriot. Hōne Heke believed that sovereignty — real power — was slipping away from Māori chiefs under British control. His response was symbolic, dramatic, and unforgettable: the repeated cutting down of the flagstaff at Kororāreka. Each strike was a message, not just of resistance, but of warning. This is the story of a man who challenged an empire, not because he rejected change, but because he refused submission. A leader driven by pride, principle, and an unshakable belief in Māori authority — and one of the first to test the limits of British power in New Zealand.Support the showInsta@justpassingthroughpodcastContact:justpassingthroughpodcast@gmail.com

There have been few changes and additions to the United States Constitution since it was ratified in 1788, despite life being wildly different now a few centuries later. To really put the document into a modern perspective, author AJ Jacobs decided to literally live by the Constitution for a full year and documented the experience in his new book The Year of Living Constitutionally. In today's episode, AJ spoke with Ryan about his inspiration for the book, the contradictions of the Founding Fathers, and the evolution of Presidential power. Change is almost inevitable in the world…and the same is true about wargaming rulesets. So how do authors avoid the dreaded problem of making something stale…..or even worse making the tiny change that implodes the system on itself. In this Episode Wyndhurst Productions and Fightin Kentuckian wanted to examine one of the most popular Blackpowder skirmish rulesets set in the North America during the 18th Century…..and how this ruleset evolved in it's 2nd version to new frontiers (Europe?), card decks, command points. With almost a decade in version 1, and over 3 years in version 2..lets take a deep dive into both of these versions, talk about our likes and dislikes…and if the ruleset stands up to the brave new frontier of changes…or maybe ends of scalped at the bottom of the bin.

When the English colonists first came to the New World there was friction but, given the limits of the colonists population and power, no large scale conflict. The Abenaki homelands consisted of most of modern day New England and North East Canada. At first they had no issue with the English, so long as they stuck to the coasts. The fishing and fur trading hubs created by the newcomers was as a commercial positive for the Abenaki. The issue arose when the English population grew and the colonists began to settle the interior lands. The Abenaki were hard pressed as they fought the mighty Iroquois for domination of the fur trade and now found themselves dealing with a growing threat from the Europeans. The slaughter and sacking of a key Pequot village along the Mystic River in 1637 was one of many such defeats that finally made the situation clear to the Abenaki; the only way for them to maintain their homelands was through violence...Check us out on Instagram and Twitter just search Cauldron! Welcome to Week Two: Martial Matters of the Seminole Wars with our long-time guest, Jesse Marshall. In the 1830s, the politicians set the policy, often based on the law. The generals set the strategy. Officers set the tactics. And the troops? They focused on the Manual of Arms so they could fight as a coherent force. They practiced and drilled on everything associated with carrying, loading, and displaying their arms. They left out marksmanship firing, based on government parsimony and the muskets' inherent deficiencies that made target practice all-but futile. In this episode, Jesse Marshall discusses mechanical and tactical differences between muskets and rifles. He explains why the Hall's breech-loading rifle was a stillborn game changer in the war. And he'll address the ultimate weapon in wars of that era -- the bayonet, and why it was so. The Hall's 1818 breech-loading rifle was billed as a game change for combat precisely because of its breech-loading capabilities. Its offensive punch did not outweigh problems with extended field use in Florida. It did provide adequate defensive firepower to protect a fort or blockhouse. In this episode, I answer the question: Does the 2nd Amendment apply to all bearable arms or just muskets? Many folks today believe the founders could never have imagined an AR-15 and would never support civilian ownership of one. I explore what it would be like if all Constitutional rights were treated this way. I talk about the success of insurgencies against superior fighting power. Most importantly, I explore the many 18th century "assault weapons" that existed when the 2nd Amendment was written. I answer the question: Does the state or federal government have the right to decide who can and who cannot own a gun? Many don't know that the 2nd Amendment isn't the only provision of the Constitution that protects gun rights. The 14th Amendment is also an important bulwark against gun control. To be legitimate, any gun control measure must pass muster with the 14th Amendment's due process clause. Finally, I debunk 4 common statistical myths that gun control activists love to regurgitate. #1 More guns = more murder. #2 Mass shooting are exceedingly common in US. #3 An "assault weapons" ban would solve gun violence. #4 Defensive uses of guns are very uncommon. An Evil Not Forgotten by Erik Buchanan. Narrated by J.S. Arquin. #fantasy #war #aftermath The soft whickering of the horses, not used to his presence, penetrates into Tyler's sleep. His eyes snap open and his hand claws for the knife beside his makeshift bed. Still dark. Still raining. Still in the barn, the straw scratching his back through the thick blanket wrapped around his body. Still alone with his memories. Pounding rain. Soaked powder. Men and horses fighting through the mud. Marching to the Mage's castle. Muskets gripped tight in cold fingers. The ground erupts under them and horrors crawl out, clawing at them. Lights in the sky become wraiths descending on them all. Cold iron to ward them off, cold steel to kill them. Death for those too slow. Tyler lay with his wife the first night he arrived home, bodies thrusting hard into each other, hands grasping to reclaim a year's absence of flesh. Afterwards they lay together, sweat-soaked and laughing, nestling tight as sleep overtook them both. Tyler woke when Kate's fingernails clawed open the flesh of his forearms, saw her blue and gasping, eyes wide with horror and lack of air as his hands tightened around her neck. After he let go, after he made sure she was all right and she said she forgave him, Tyler went out to sleep in the barn. She didn't argue. Erik Buchanan is an author, ghostwriter, fight director, actor, black belt and parent. He is also a communications consultant, but that doesn't sound as exciting. His newest books areThe Stalker Chronicles, including The Trials of Abyowith, The Wire Noose, and The Dead Trees (coming fall 2021) and are available on Amazon, Smashwords, and other online retailers. His trilogy, the Thomas Flarety Stories (Small Magics, Cold Magics and True Magics) is published by Canada's Dragon Moon Press. He has also ghostwritten nine other books, acted on stage, TV and film, and has directed fights for more than 50 productions.
