They then discuss the Mariners walking off the Yankees last night and Cal Raleigh coming up clutch in the 9th inning. RUNDOWN Mitch and Hotshot open with a Tiger Woods' DUI arrest following a car crash, debating addiction, accountability, and whether his injuries and surgeries contribute to a potential dependency on painkillers. The conversation mixes empathy with frustration, as they explore the limits of wealth, resources, and personal responsibility. Mitch and Hotshot kick around Final Four structure—including why reseeding will never happen—while also noting UConn's dominance and the imbalance of the current bracket. They mix in lighter observations like Charles Barkley's noticeable weight loss before turning to baseball, where the Mariners split their opening series despite historically poor production from the heart of the lineup. Mitch is joined by Brady Farkas and Joe Doyle after the Mariners open the season with a four-game split against Cleveland, despite getting almost nothing from the middle of the order. The conversation centers on slow starts from Julio Rodríguez, Cal Raleigh, and Josh Naylor, while Brendan Donovan emerges as an early bright spot. The guys also debate mounting criticism of manager Dan Wilson's bullpen and lineup decisions, assess encouraging signs from the starting rotation and Emerson Hancock's standout outing, and look ahead to a critical stretch against the Yankees and Angels. Mitch and The Ringer's Danny Kelly break down the upcoming NFL Draft, where uncertainty at the top—especially at quarterback—could lead to major movement. Kelly explains why this year's QB class lacks a slam-dunk No. 1 pick, how team needs may outweigh pure talent evaluation, and which prospects could rise late in the process. Mitch joins Jason Puckett to dissect the art of interviewing—specifically why trying to be funny can backfire and why cell phone guests almost always kill timing, pacing, and chemistry. The conversation turns into a masterclass on radio fundamentals, with Mitch explaining his strict "no cell phone" philosophy and how production control separates good interviews from disasters. Along the way, he mixes in classic storytelling—from awkward guest moments to legendary encounters with Dean Smith and Vern Lundquist—highlighting both the craft and chaos of live radio. Baseball is back and with just one weekend in the books, the overreactions are already flying. The Yankees look unstoppable after a dominant opening series, sparking big questions about whether their rotation and bullpen could be the best in baseball. At the same time, Mets fans are already feeling the tension as early struggles and high expectations collide in a cold and emotional start to the season. Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber break down the biggest takeaways from Opening Weekend, including standout performances, surprising concerns, and the reality behind the hot takes. They dive into early Yankees dominance, Mets frustrations, Bo Bichette's honesty about pressing under pressure, and the fine line between fan passion and impatience in New York.
A harmless joke turns into a full-blown debate when Shaun's “Red Sox suck” shout at a local fundraiser lands with a thud instead of laughs. The crew breaks down the awkward moment, questioning whether it was bad timing, the wrong crowd, or an overreaction from the room. It sparks a bigger conversation about sports culture, local pride, and where the line actually is when it comes to fandom. Plus, Evan and Tiki dive into baseball's most polarizing rule changes, including the ghost runner in extra innings, and whether convenience is ruining the integrity of the game. Add in a viral ballpark photo, some classic fan hypocrisy arguments, and a heated back-and-forth on staying until the final out, and you've got a mix of humor, frustration, and classic sports talk energy throughout.
A bold claim kicks off the final stretch as the conversation turns to whether Rob Manfred has quietly become the best commissioner in sports. It sparks a lively debate about what actually matters most to fans, from rule changes to overall enjoyment, and whether recent tweaks have truly improved the game. Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber break down the biggest changes in baseball, including the pitch clock, ghost runner, and the ABS challenge system, debating what works and what still feels off. They also dive into early reactions from players and fans, strategy implications, and how these innovations are already shaping games in real time.
Opening Weekend is in the books, and the reactions are already getting loud. After just three games, the Yankees are being talked about like a dominant force with elite pitching and a lineup firing early, while the Mets are already facing questions despite a winning series. It is the perfect mix of excitement and overreaction that only baseball's return can bring. Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber lean into the early storylines, breaking down why the Yankees' hot start feels both real and exaggerated, and why Mets fans are already uneasy about certain performances. They explore standout pitching, early offensive trends, and the natural urge to draw big conclusions from a tiny sample size as the season gets underway.

The biggest storyline heading into the 2026 Major League Baseball season was how teams would adapt to and utilize the newly implemented Automated Ball-Strike challenge system. After a weekend's worth of games, it's already making an impact on outcomes, and we couldn't be happier about it. On this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss the instant success that ABS has been, both in terms of its importance in games and for fan entertainment. They dive into early statistics surrounding the challenges, including which catchers are succeeding and why hitters appear to be getting the shorter end of the stick instead of pitchers. We also saw the first ejection associated with ABS—but could more be coming? Later, Jake and Jordan recap every matchup from the weekend, including why Tony Vitello needs to take a breath after his San Francisco Giants got swept by the New York Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays picking up where they left off after their magical World Series run, and thoughts on Edwin Díaz's entrance with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The guys then discuss the hottest start for the Miami Marlins since 2009, Chase DeLauter's great series against the Seattle Mariners, and a few messy games between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels. 1:10 - The Opener: Impact of ABS 28:09 - How Sweep It Is: Yankees sweep Giants 36:31 - Dodgers start the season hot 47:03 - Around the League: DeLauter says hello 51:44 - Mets fail to sweep Pirates 55:33 - Turbo Mode: Every series recap Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:

Sundays in Seattle are for Steelheads! Before the season began, it was announced that the Seattle Mariners would wear Seattle Steelheads uniforms on every home Sunday. The Steelheads were a Negro League baseball team in the brief West Coast Negro Baseball Association in 1946. They are part of Pacific Northwest Black history, though the league folded after two months.Building on this announcement, seeing the uniforms in action produced unexpected emotion and tremendous pride. The Mariners' media team did an excellent job telling the story of the Steelheads and included members from the community in their inaugural presentation. The uniforms look amazing, and this proactive action by the Mariners, who do not have a storied history in Negro League folklore, should afford the opportunity for teams like the Royals (Kansas City Monarchs), Cubs and White Sox (Chicago American Giants), Nationals (Homestead/Washington Grays), Phillies (Hilldale), Pirates (Grays & Crawford's), Orioles (Elite Giants and Black Sox), and many more MLB teams to honor their past in an exciting way. And, let's be honest, new uniforms bring in new revenue for the club too. It's a great business move.Turning to game action, the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Yankees, and Brewers are still undefeated. That may not come as a surprise to most; those teams all were in the playoffs last year, with stacked rosters. But, there is another team that is undefeated that is a surprise: Shout out to the Marlins. The Miami Marlins are 3-0 after sweeping the Rockies. Yes, I know the Rockies are trash, but live it up, MIA.Looking more closely at the 2-1 teams, the Nationals were impressive, taking two wins in Chicago against the Cubs. The Rangers took two wins in Philly, and Andrew McCutchen hit extremely well. The Reds taking two off the Red Sox was unexpected. Most pundits have labeled the Red Sox the team to watch. I know it's early, but the MLB season is off to a hot start. To wrap things up, thank you for sharing part of your morning with BBM. A new podcast will be recorded live tonight at 9 PM EST. You can watch on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, or you can wait for the audio on Tuesday morning. See you tomorrow.

I know this is only the first week of the season, but I need to catch my breath. MLB teams are giving out walk-offs, like old school Oprah: You get a walk-off, you get a walk-off, and you get a walk-off too.The most emotional walk-off victory belonged to the Braves and Dominic Smith. Smith is the first player in MLB history to hit a grand slam walk-off homer in his team debut. Smith, 31, lost his mother to cancer less than two weeks ago. He did not take time away from camp because he was battling for a roster spot. Smith said after the game that he felt his mother's presence with him last night. It was a beautiful moment for Smith, who is in the midst of a very difficult time. The Reds' Dane Myers got his first hit with his new club on Saturday, and, yes, it was a walk-off. The story of the Reds-Red Sox game will not be Myers; it will be umpire CB Bucknor. The veteran umpire (Bucknor, 63) was overruled by the ABS challenge system six times. I don't know what the consequences will be for Bucknor, but this is not good.In Chicago, the Cubs beat the Nats, but James Wood hit his first home run, and Nasim Nunez made one of the best web gems of the season already. Nunez was filling in for CJ Abrams, who has stepped away from the team due to bereavement. It is reported that he has suffered a death in his family.Taj Bradley (Twins) K'd 9 in 4.1 innings pitched. He didn't get a decision, but the Twins beat the O's 4-1.Aaron Judge has hit his second home run in as many days. Captain America is back after his Opening Day 0-5, 4K performance. The Yankees are 3-0, which means the Giants are 0-3. They did score their first run on Saturday, so there is that.In closing, Twins #2 prospect Kaeleen Culpeper and Orioles #9 prospect Enrique Bradfield are in the recap on Substack. Substack will be where you find a wider version of highlights.See you tomorrow. Finish Your Breakfast.
