This mix was inspired by the opening track. Ralphi Rosario posted it on FB which made me curious. I've always wanted it so when I saw it had recently been released digitally I grab copy.On the night of the show just before going live I realised I didn't know where the other digital versions of my old early 90's NY house/garage were. As a result I started the mix off with Bardot and figured I'd find them as the show went along. This proved massively time consuming as my collection is in Rekordbox so I had to look manually using windows explorer on my desktop. As a result I almost ran out of track a few times and had chuck a few loops in.It also meant I couldn't play the tracks in an order I prefer. It was a case of playing what I could find when I found it. I want to do this mix again but programmed properly. I think it will be a timeless classic like so many of the tracks on here.I'd also bought a few new tracks just before the show, so I switched with about 30 minutes left and played the new stuff. It transitions well, but you can really hear the difference in depth between the two genres.I hope you enjoy the mix as much as I have these past couple of days. and some of your favourites from back in the day are in the here.Only two weeks until the next boat party. It's going to be a special under the stars on the harbour.Tracklisting:1: Ralphie Rosario, Byrd Bardot - Bardot Fever (Quench Mix)2: World Series Of Love - I Would Give Anything (Sil Piano Dub)3: Office Gossip - Var II4: LaTour - Blue (Underground Ice Pick Mix)5: Gypseymen - Hear The Music (Tee's Mix)6: Slam Mode - The Happy Song (Slammode Deep)7: Todd Terry - No Way8: Robert Owens - I'll Be Your Friend (DEF Instrumental)9: Degrees Of Motion - Shine On (Junior Style Dub)10: DV8 - C'mon (Hard As Hell Mix)11: Todd Terry - Kashmir12: U.P.I. - My Love Away (Blackout Mix)13: Supereal - Body Medusa14: DSK - What Would We Do (JBO Mix)15: Inner City - Pennies From Heaven16: House of Lords - Dovercourt Express17: Fouk - Floating18: David Bailey - Twist19: Ross Couch - Pressure Rising20: Jaque - Love Will Save The Day (Ain't Nothin' But A House Party Vocal Mix)21: A Fish Called Wanda, Dr-Night - Take Time22: Analog Sol - Glimpse Of TomorrowEnjoy!

Paul Rees' Raised on Radio: Power Ballads, Cocaine and Payola - the AOR Glory Years 1976-1986 (De Capo, 2026) is a massively entertaining oral biography of the golden era of critically derided yet monumentally popular radio rock, when Journey, Boston, REO Speedwagon, Toto, and more ruled the airwaves Paul Rees' Raised on Radio is, remarkably, the first biography of the (at the time) critically derided and yet massively popular AOR (album-oriented rock) bands whose heyday was 1976-1986, when groups like Journey, Boston, Foreigner, Toto, and REO Speedwagon sold many millions of albums, toured stadiums, and whose songs continue to stream in record numbers. Many of them still tour. And sure, they were punching bags for the elitist rock critics more interested in covering punk and new wave, terminally uncool, and never fashionably cutting edge, but their music was, and is, the soundtrack to so many people's lives. Who among music fans (of a certain age) didn't pump their fist to "Don't Stop Believin'" (long before The Sopranos), play air guitar to "More Than a Feeling," bellow along with Toto's "Africa," or have their heart broken to the strains of "Can't Fight This Feeling"? Even better: their tour stories and the tales of making the music are as entertaining and eye-opening as any of the antics from the annals of rock and roll history. Cocaine use was rampant, intra-band fighting was par for the course, and for better or worse, the groups' members lived life to excess. In so many ways, it was these artists' music (they are responsible for the power ballad) and lifestyles that led directly to the soon-to-follow hair metal scene. And in spite of what the critical establishment wrote, it turns out the music has aged . . . rather well! Raised on Radio is a stadium-sized, massively entertaining oral history in the bestselling tradition of Meet Me in the Bathroom, Nothin' But A Good Time, and Please Kill Me, capturing a time and a place that was as big and booming and as unabashed as the music that provided its soundtrack. Chris humble brags about his trip to Hawai'i (it must be nice). We go off on Denis Leary and the return of Boston sports fandom (can we just not). Kris brags about being an influencer, before that was even a thing. He just been living the life all Gen Z keeps wanting. Then there's a lot of ranting and weird topics while picking the NFL Divisional Round Playoff games.
This week we got nothing much going on just a couple of old dudes talking gaming from and old man point of view.

As a bit of a denouement to our Year End coverage, we're each picking five tracks we loved from the past year. There's maybe a bit of a club tilt to some (but not all) picks, and we're aiming for bands and releases not featured on either our Top 25 list or the honorable mentions discussed on last week's podcast.

We celebrate the NY Knicks winning the NBA Championship...oh...um...err...sorry it's the (checks notes)...NBA Cup championship. Do they hang a banner and have a parade down Broadway? Chris finds an obscure reason to continue his hate-watching fetish with the Knicks. Also, is NY more of a Ranger town than a Knicks town? We rank our favorite Christmas movies. Kris shares his story of his brother tricking him into sticking his tongue to a frozen pole. Then it's a lot of minutia, before they get to week 16 picks.

Corey has released many of zydeco music since 2004, and mixes his dedication to tradition (even recording a recent album in Louisiana Creole) with his love of many types of music. We discuss "J'ai Parti dans la Campagne" (and listen at the end to "Outro") from his new release, Live in Alaska; "That Girl Wanna Dance" from the Grammy nominated Nothin' But the Best (2012); and "Way Back Home," a Jazz Crusaders (Wilton Felder) cover recorded for 3 Years 2 Late (2003). Intro: "Boudin Man (Remix)" from Destiny (2013). More at coreyledet.com. Hear more Nakedly Examined Music at nakedlyexaminedmusic.com. Support us at patreon.com/nakedlyexaminedmusic.
