Co-mixed with @Aasthma. There are few people who have had as much of an impact on contemporary electronic music as Karin Dreijer, whether with their brother Olof in The Knife or with their solo project, Fever Ray. From massive indie-pop hits to paradigm-shifting dance records, Dreijer's work takes a psychedelic, plasticine approach to synth pop, with their trademark pitch-shifted vocals and psuedo-tropical beats. As Fever Ray, they've tapped into the global club music underground, working with producers like Nídia, Paula Temple, Deena Abdelwahed, Vessel and, on new album Radical Romantics—one of our favourite albums of the year so far at RA, hands down—even Nine Inch Nails. Another important collaborator in Dreijer's world is Peder Mannerfelt, the Swedish techno producer who has been working with Fever Ray since the first album back in 2009. He co-mixed this RA Podcast as part of Aasthma, his duo with Pär Grindvik. The mix is a survey of Dreijer's favourite dance music, some of which informs their one-of-a-kind sound world as Fever Ray. There's plenty of music from the groundbreaking East African scene centered around Nyege Nyege Tapes, plus DJ Haram, Equinkoxx, Tayhana and more, and even two exclusive, upcoming Fever Ray remixes from Avalon Emerson and Nifra. Par la suite, on part dans des expérimentations électroniques autour de la musique traditionnelle ougandaise, avec des musiques de mariage ou de l'ancien boxeur Otim Alpha, dénichées par un label cher à l'émission, Nyege Nyege Tapes. Enfin, on se jette dans la très bouillonnante scène électronique contemporaine de Kampala, souvent sous la houlette du jeune et foisonnant label Hakuna Kulala. Pêle-mêle, on y retrouve un collectif de techno situé entre Londres et Kampala, un trio queer énervé, du rap industriel, de l'afro-futurisme, un bazar IDM déniché sur Bandcamp ou le fameux ensemble de percussions Nihiloxica. Focus sur un autre festival dans Néo Géo cette semaine, avec Nyege Nyege. Célèbre festival ougandais qui se tient chaque année dans la capitale de Kampala, il propose cette année une édition en Île-de-France. Le co-fondateur de cet événement, et du label Nyege Nyege Tapes, Derek Debru, revient sur l'esprit de cet événement et de sa maison de disque. Dans cet épisode produit en collaboration avec We Are Europe, Renaud t'emmène fêter la fin d'année aux Pays-Bas, au son de l'afro-dutch.L'afro-dutch, ce sont les musiques actuelles hollandaises dérivées du hip hop, bubbling et moombathon, dans lesquelles se mélangent des influences sud-américaines, caribéennes sub sahariennes et nord- africaines. C’est pas facile à intégrer mais en même temps super satisfaisant quand tu parviens à trouver la combinaison qui rend bien. Sinon alors pour la construction du set, c’est une track qui a déterminée toutes les autres. J’ai écouté l’EP de Kizoku son dernier, et je me suis mise à naviguer autour de l’artiste, pour construire mon set. Une fois que j’ai eu une trentaine de tracks, je me suis lancée, sans prévoir d’ordre dans les tracks. Je connaissais la première que je voulais passer, et la dernière. Un constat qui fait mal à la scène bretonne, pourtant super-active et fière de l'être.Cette année, afin de commencer à notre niveau, local et associatif, à contrer cette tendance structurelle de manque de visibilité des artistes femmes qui se reflète, bien malgré nous, dans notre programmation, nous avons décidé de lancer une émission mensuelle dédiée exclusivement à des femmes DJs.
