The Nine Circles Audio Thing is back with our Album of the Month for October!Once again the gang comes forth with candidates, this time under the watchful gaze of Angela. But although strong arguments were put forth for the avant-black metal of Doedsmaghird, the exploratory and modern melodic black metal of Gaerea, and the ripping, quite possibly AOTY contender Blood Incantation the rose could only be gifted to one. And that one was Chris with his pick of Chat Pile and their sledgehammer classic in the making Cool World, which ups the ambition and stands as the voice for the rage and raw pain of a global space far greater than their native Oaklahoma. Dig into the feast and also check out what else the group was listening to in October! 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter (X) | Instagram

Support the show
Beth Brown has had her fair share of ‘life' and all its happenings. Depression, divorce, starting all over again with 3 kids and panic attacks, lead to a catalyst for change when she could hardly leave the house living alongside fear. Even through all the ups and downs she has experienced, she still feels ‘rich' with joy, has devoted herself to healing and shines a light through the darkness. Currently, Beth is living a life she never dreamt possible through finding a passion for marketing (which was quietly alongside her much of her life) and choosing joy. Listen in as I chat with Beth about: Paying attention to the small voice and finding gratitude when things are rough and you're angry in between it all. A rich life filled with good people, good experiences and more than monetary things. The light at the end of the tunnel that comes to us, that we don't have to make up. It's clear Beth has come out the other side much stronger and with a depth to her life which shines through this conversation. In episode 15 of Season 2, Arthi has a lovely conversation with guest Sarah Clark where Sarah shares her own experience of being her own worst enemy when she took up a key leadership role as the Dean and Head of the University Library for La Salle University.Sarah share a bit of her journey that brought her into the field of library science and building a career in this space, after realising that her initial foray into telecoms was not for her. She found her niche in connecting people with information and completed her Phd in Oaklahoma before grabbing the opportunity at La Salle University in Philadelphia.Taking up the leadership role as Dean and university Librarian, she made every mistake that a newbie leader would and shares how she became her own worst enemy. By not knowing how to manage people effectively (delegating effectively, building trust and not micromanaging) while being in this particular leadership position, she started to alienate her colleagues. What unfolded was an intervention by her team and then a journey of personal development for Sarah that helped her feel and process her feelings, forgive herself, trust her leadership skills, and come together as a team to know what works best for the collective. Some wise words from Sarah:- "Leaders don't need to be perfect to build a better world."-"When you're a leader, your intent is less important than your impact”- “It is ok, and it is necessary to feel those feelings that you have about that situation at that time because if you don't feel them, process them or shove them down in a box, they will just explode...”Listen to the full episode to hear more and be inspired by my guest.About Dr Sarah Clark:Sarah is Dean & University Librarian at La Salle University, as well as the host of the Kind Leadership Challenge podcast. This weeks guest is sculpturess Phyllis Mantik deQuevedo of Oaklahoma. A native of Canada and a graduate of the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Phyllis moved to the United States in 1981. She believes that her introduction to sculpture was by design. From early experiences of completing a sculpture, seeing a form emerge from a lump of clay, she has delighted in creating. Out of this personal joy she realizes a responsibility; to create work that adds value to our existence, to evoke a smile; to touch someone’s heart and for a moment to capture an emotion. Her desire is that the transforming experiences in life such as tenderness, intimacy and spirituality would enable new artistic growth and provide inspiration for her sculpture. “I believe my responsibility as a sculptor is to create work that adds value to our existence, if only to evoke a simple smile. My hope is to be someone who represents goodness in life by creating, teaching, learning, discovering, sharing, and serving. I identify with the words of architect Samuel Mockbee, who said, “The role of the artist in Society is to lift the spirit, to somehow let us see the goodness in things.” His words incorporate my philosophy as an artist as well.” To read the CAGO Newsletter, visit www.ContemporaryArtGalleryOnline.com and click on the CAGO Media tab.
