One day, she broke down, threw up her hands, and screamed, “I am here!” That mantra became a powerful reminder to stay mindful. Welcome back to the Healing Her podcast! Today, I am so excited to be joined by my friend, Jenna Rammel! This is a very exciting episode for Jenna and I as we have not seen each other in almost four years! In this episode, we will be chatting about friendship loss. A term that I like to use when discussing this topic is ambiguous loss and this refers to losing an emotional connection with someone who is still alive, whether that be a romantic relationship or a friendship. We will be talking about how to maintain our own personal confidence after losing a friend, tangible tools to help get us out of a negative mindset, as well as traumatic friendship losses including ghosting. Let's be honest though, sometimes it is our fault. Sometimes we do (unintentionally) do things that hurt our friends or cause them to stop speaking with us, so Jenna and I will discuss conflict resolution as well as dealing with the guilt that comes from hurting someone you love, and the life changes that can alter friendships. Keep listening to hear more! The Healing Her podcast will dish out practical tools, a touch of humor, and a whole lot of heart to help you uncover your way back to yourself and your peace. Terah will share with us the story of her daughter Indy, how Indy touched and continues to touch so many people around the world, and how Indy's spiritual presence provides her family the comfort they need to live through the pain. Welcome back to the Healing Her podcast! Today, we are touching on a question that so many of you have asked and I myself have struggled with as well and that is, how do I find myself again? After so much loss, it can be so difficult to figure out where we even fit in the world because we often feel a huge blow to our confidence after experiencing something hard or unexpected. We internalize feelings of guilt and we blame ourselves for not doing things differently. While guilt is a totally normal response to grief, it's so important that we talk about it and let it out. And that's why, in this episode, we are going to be discussing identity attachment, increased emotion due to grief, and a change in values. I also want to remind you that grief can come from any type of loss, not just a death. So, remember that your feelings are valid, you are certainly not alone, and you are worthy of joy. Keep listening to learn more about the steps you can take and the tools you can use to start finding yourself again. The Healing Her podcast will dish out practical tools, a touch of humor, and a whole lot of heart to help you uncover your way back to yourself and your peace. Welcome back to the Healing Her podcast! Today, I am so excited to welcome our first special guest, my husband Mike Lemieux! We are touching on a question that Mike and I get all the time, and that is, are you going to have another baby? And the answer to this question is very complicated. For years, our goal was to have a child, however, while we were pregnant with our first child, we had to deal with a lot of loss and a lot of heartbreak. Now that we finally have come out on the other side - with a daughter in tow - Mike and I have had to reimagine and recreate the next chapter of our lives together. And we're still figuring out what that looks like. In this episode, Mike and I will be talking about our thoughts and feelings around having more children and how to grieve and heal with your spouse - especially when the way you cope, grieve, and heal is very different from one another. Keep listening to hear more from Mike and I as we navigate this complex question. Although my grief and the things that caused my grief have completely changed who I am as a person, I have found healing. This is not to say that my healing was easy and in fact, I continue to work on healing today, however that's what this community is all about. It's about support, learning, and growing. In this episode, I will be sharing my experience with no longer being a parent to my adopted children as well as a traumatic miscarriage that followed. If any of this resonates with your story, I want you to know that you are not alone. I see you, I feel, and I am here with you. Keep listening for more. Dr. Meg has a heart to heart conversation with Ashley Le Mieux, who shares how she tragically lost three of her children – two to the foster care system, and one to a premature birth. Rising from the ashes of pain and loss, Ashley describes her journey to finding healing and transformation, and shares how you can do the same. DR MEG & GUEST ASHLEY LEMIEUX (PART 1) This episode begins with Ashley explaining how she and her husband were permanent guardians of two children for over four years, and how they were in the process of adopting when the adoption was unexpectedly contested. As quickly as the children had come into their lives, they were taken from them, literally overnight. Three and a half years later, Ashley and her husband also tragically lost a biological son. Ashley describes these heart-wrenching experiences before she and Dr. Meg dive into discussing her book, “I Am Here: The Journey from Fear to Freedom”. Key points include: What if it's not fear? What if it's love? Moving forward in the face of loss and sadness How our past can serve our present, which can then serve our future Why happiness is unfulfilling when compared with peace DR MEG & GUEST ASHLEY LEMIEUX (PART 2) Dr. Meg and Ashley LeMieux continue their conversation, discussing the process of reimagining your future and reclaiming your power. Ashley introduces a tool called, “Clarity Mapping,” which helps determine priorities in order to create tangible, bite-sized, actionable items for each day. Listeners can learn to move through their pain and loss to find clarity using these confidence-building practices. In this episode, Sharon takes Ashley LeMieux on a tour of the world's most spectacular fair, the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. The World's Columbian Exposition was a fair like none other. Located in Chicago on a 690-acre fairground, the exposition attracted over 27 million people. The fair dazzled visitors with 200 extravagant buildings and palaces, impressive spectacles of electric lights, the world's first ferris wheel and exact replicas of the Niña, Pinta and Santa Maria (Columbus' ships). Fair visitors never went hungry and were introduced to foods such as Cracker Jacks, hot dogs, brownies, Quaker Oats and cream of wheat. The World's Columbian Exposition changed U.S history, architecture and culture in a profound way. Author and speaker, Ashley Lemieux, has empowered thousands of women to find purpose in their pain by reframing their mindset through the darkest moments of their life. Ashley's motherhood journey is one of immense pain, loss, and, ultimately, hope, after losing her two adopted children in an emotionally exhausting court battle that left her and her husband scrambling to find their way back to each other again. Last year, after making the conscious decision to grow their family, health challenges resulted in another tragic loss that she so openly and bravely discusses on the show. Silver linings are impossible to find in such moments, but Ashley's realization that escaping the pain made things worse invited her to work through it rather than around it. Clarity mapping, intentional meditation, and releasing stringent timelines have allowed her to find joy in her life and partnership again. In times of shrinking solitude, Ashley Lemieux transformed her anguish to art, creating a community for people to feel seen, heard, and loved – even when they do not feel worthy. We hope this vulnerable, raw conversation offers light and inspiration to those who feel their emotional load is too heavy to carry. This week's guest and I have a mutual disdain for the phrase "time heals all wounds." In her new book, I Am Here, Ashley LeMieux writes about how untrue “time heals all wounds” is as she recounts the many deep scars she holds and how she has taken an active part in moving past them. We all have wounds that affect how we show up in the world today, but our shared pain and trauma can help us better understand each other as we seek to find common ground around bigger issues. As Ashley writes about in I Am Here, "maybe healing isn't about what we don't feel and, instead, is about what we do." As a mom, not much could be worse than having your kids ripped away from you. Ashley LeMieux, founder of The Shine Project, had to endure exactly that, and still finds a way to let her light shine and do good in the world.
Ashley LeMieux joins me around the table today. She has made a career out of helping others reignite the light within them. As founder and CEO of The Shine Project, she launched both a movement and a company that empowers women in myriad ways, including teaching first-generation college students how to produce handmade products that they can then sell as employees of The Shine Project. We talk about how when she was only a college student she saw a problem facing some youth and she worked to solve that problem. We also talk about her first book, Born To Shine. With that, she talks about walking through a hard, dark time in life where they faced a contested adoption and ultimately lost the kids. Life didn’t end with a pretty bow on top. And then we unearth some beautiful conversation about what it looks like to show up in the biggest fight of your life and what you need to show up with. We all love hearing stories about miracles, but what if your miracle doesn’t come? If you can relate to that, you’ll love this episode. I am so grateful to have Ashley LeMieux on the podcast this week. She is the founder and CEO of The Shine Project and she is currently launching her first book called “Born To Shine.” This week we are chatting about walking through grief, finding healing, holding onto hope, and how to shine in your darkest moments. Her Why When Ashley was little, she was very shy so she would write out all of her feelings. “If you asked me while I was young, I would always tell you that I wanted to be a writer who helped people heal their hearts.” She let doubts and concerns of others let her stray from this path of writing while she was in college, but she decided to start a blog called The Shine Project. That same blog has now grown into a product line and online community for women. She acknowledges that fear can prevent us from pursuing our dreams and even just finding out what our dreams are in the first place. “In our heart of hearts, if we just sit still enough, I think we all kind of already know what that thing is… we just bury it with layers to distract us so we don’t have to do it.” We too often let our minds jump to all the things that can go wrong. Holding Onto Hope One day, she and her husband were called and asked to parent a four and six-year old. “At that moment, it felt like everything in our lives had led us to that point and to be able to say yes.” Several years into their being a family of four, they were still finalizing the adoption process and there was an unexpected contested adoption. While she was away, they found out that their children would be taken from them the next morning. She wasn’t able to see them and so she wrote letters from her hotel. “Every day felt like I was carrying the weight of the world.” In those moments, she saw that this painful experience was a trial of their faith. She knew that they would come out the other side. “I didn’t know the depths of that pain existed.” Finding Healing “My healing process will be for the rest of my life.” She spent time with various therapists to help with the healing process and she felt the fog of grief begin to lift the tiniest bit after one year. Her big turning moment was a moment in which she looked in the mirror for the first time in a while and she was lifeless. “It was like everything had been vacuumed out of me.” In that moment, she realized she didn’t want to feel the same way looking in the mirror when she gets to be 80 years old. “How can I live a fulfilled happy joyful life while still feeling pain? Because they have to co-exist. They have to.” From there, she discovered the difference between suffering and pain. She could drop her suffering and hold on to joy. How To Shine In Your Darkest Moments We don’t have to be afraid of the dark. “The light within us is brighter than any of the darkness that surround us.” How can what’s burying me start serving me? When she was buried in pain, loss, and heartbreak, she decided to rise above it. Give yourself permission. To dream, to find joy, to be excellent, to shine! “We don’t give ourselves permission to shine and we dim our own light. There’s already so much out there that’s trying to work against us and the last thing we need is to work against ourselves.” Show up to the biggest fights of your life with love. It’s easy to get in fight mode or be in the “me against the world” mentality. Anger depletes us, but love can’t be taken away. “Once we start giving it, there’s just so much more to receive of it.” Ignite the light in others. Focusing outside of yourself and serving others brings purpose to our pain. Our pain allows us to understand people differently. If You Are Walking Through Grief Right Now “Your story is not yet over. No matter how dark it gets around you. No matter how dim and bleak and painful everything feels, you were born to shine.” “Sometimes, the best view we have of the stars is when we’re knocked flat out on our backs in the darkest night.” You can find Ashley at @ashleyklemieux and go to theshineproject.com/tour to order her book! They weren’t looking to adopt or foster at the time, but they said yes, and their life became all about their new family. During the final stages of the adoption process they experienced an unexpected contested adoption, which meant that they spent over a year and a half in court fighting to keep their family together. In the end the kids were taken from them with 12 hours notice and Ashley and her husband were not even allowed to tell the kids they weren’t coming home. Ashley says the past two years have been filled with her trying to figure out how to find a life again after it was all taken away. She felt buried by pain for so long she couldn’t work out how to move forward, but her journey through that has ignited everything she’s doing now. To begin she started a morning routine that added purpose back into her day. She wanted to write a book about her experiences and, after 30 different publishers said no, she figured out that no-one else’s opinion mattered and did it anyway. Her book, Born To Shine, shares stories, lessons, and practical tools to help women shine despite the darkness, to press forward one day at a time even when there is no end in sight, and to turn their most painful moments into their greatest teachers and signposts to true, deep, unassailable joy. Question Highlights: How do you find closure when you couldn’t say goodbye to your kids? Was writing your book therapeutic? What should people do when they can’t see a way out of suffering? How can we believe in the significance of our story? How do we bring divine ideas to life and have faith in them even when they've lost their excitement? Guest Bio: Ashley LeMieux is an author, sought-after public speaker, and wildly successful lifestyle influencer. Super excited to welcome Ashley LeMieux to Thriving Beyond Belief this week! 3 Steps to Turn Your Life Right Side Up by Mike LeMieux On April 22, 2013, my wife Ashley and I (pictured above) became parents over night to a 4 and 6 year old. Up to that point we’d never thought about having kids. We were asked to raise them and felt like it was the right thing to do —so we did. We picked them up and brought them home to our house — I was now a dad. A few years into everything, we wanted to make things more permanent and stable for the kids so we filed to adopt them. It was unexpectedly and heavily contested. We fought for them in a very heated legal battle for a year and a half. We spent a large sum of money on attorney’s fees, attended a dozen court hearings, were deposed, and were drained of every ounce of mental and spiritual energy we had. After 4 years of being a dad, my time was over. Our kids went back to live with their biological family. My wife and I and our families were devastated. I stopped caring about life. Nothing mattered to me anymore — work, what I ate, etc. I didn’t care. For months, I cried every day because I missed them so much. But several months ago something changed in me. I realized what was happening to me and wanted to MAKE A CHANGE in my life. I knew I needed to let myself grieve, but I was sick and tired of not being happy anymore. I decided to live intentionally, every day. I decided to work on things that filled me up. I decided to surround myself with people who are happy. I DECIDED to take my life back. FIRST Set Intentions For The Day, Every Day Fill out a planner, write on a white board, create a Google calendar… whatever you need to do in order to stay on track with what you want to do. When you write down what you want to do each day, you’re more likely to do it. If you don’t write anything down, you’re not going to do anything you want. You’ll do what everyone else wants you to do. You’ll be tossed to and fro like a bobber in the water You’ll be aimless and tired all the time, “working”, but not getting anything done. Start your day by writing out, physically or digitally, your intentions for the day and stick to them until your day is done! SECOND Let Yourself Feel Different Emotions After we’d lost our kids, I had so many emotions, as you can imagine. Most of them were anger, grief and sadness. Sometimes I felt despair and loneliness. When I felt these types of emotions, I wanted to shove them out as fast as possible. They made me feel very uncomfortable. I realized the more I tried to bury those emotions, the more they resurfaced and the worse I got. I decided to let myself feel the emotions and just let things happen as they would. When I did this, miraculous things started happening; I could feel myself heal, literally. I could feel happiness again. I could feel hope. By letting myself just be, I was myself again. Not my old self, but my new self. It felt good. THIRD Take things one minute at a time The pictures you see above are the last things we did inside of the home we lived in when we lost the kids. The house was empty, new people would be moving in a couple days later and we would be moving to the other side of the country to Nashville, Tennessee. I had felt so overwhelmed by the emotions I’d been having, I didn’t know how to take things even one day at a time. I started focusing on each minute at a time. I started recognizing things I still had in my life that brought me joy; My wife. My family and in-laws. My dog. My work. I’d think about how helpful it would be to be able to sell what we owned and move to Nashville to “start fresh”. I’d think about these things, one at a time, until I started to feel happy. When I paid attention to what I had in my life that made me happy, I was happy. If I did the opposite and focused ONLY on the difficult things, I was miserable. My mind frame changed and my life started becoming mine again. I was making choices about how I wanted to live and I was empowering myself. Day after day of practicing these three habits has allowed me to go from devastated to determined. When we stop thinking “We are the product of the things that happen to us” and switch our frame of mind to “I get to decide how I live my life and react to what happens to me”, our lives are fixed and we truly thrive

The Importance of Making Self-Care a Priority The moment I became a momma, everything changed. My first son, Carter, was born in January of 2015, and he instantly became my entire world. This tiny human consumed my every thought, concern and desire. It was beautiful and awesome, but it was also really hard. Now, I’d gone through many hard seasons before this one. I’ve walked through seasons where I worked 80 hours a week, lost all my friends, and didn’t have much of a life outside of work. But, for whatever reason, there’s nothing quite like that feeling of losing yourself when children come into the picture. Not only do they instantly become the center of your universe, but they also just need you a lot. And that’s exactly what happened to me. I lost myself when I first became a mother. I no longer felt like Christy. I no longer felt like the young, independent, fun person I’d always known myself to be. I had so many interests—and I still do—but I wasn’t doing any of those things because taking care of Carter consumed my world. Related: Find Your True Self and Get Back to You I know many of you have probably experienced this as well. You begin to create habits and grooves where all you think about is your kids. That was definitely me, even more so when Conley came into the picture a very short time later. I got into a habit of identifying myself as Carter and Conley’s mom. That was my first point of identification. Now, I love being their mother. It’s the greatest joy of my life. But it’s not the only part of me. I quickly realized that, in keeping up with the day-to-day demands of my job, my children and my household, the first thing to go was me. The first things to go out the window were my interests and anything that brought me joy and rest (outside of my family). This was the first time in my life that I experienced this kind of guilt. Anything I wanted to do for myself felt selfish in the grand scheme of being a mom, so I wasn’t taking care of myself. Related: Getting Rid of the Guilt Doesn’t this happen to so many of us? We forget about the things that make us feel like us: exercise, shopping, pedicures, time with girlfriends or time alone. Those things become luxuries we’ll indulge in only if there’s time leftover. And you and I both know there is never time leftover. There will always be something more demanding of your time, attention and energy until you put yourself at the top of your priority list. Self-Care Is Your Responsibility If you feel rushed, run down, busy, burned out, grumpy or resentful in your own life, it’s probably because you haven’t taken care of yourself. And there’s only one person who can fix that: you. The most important truth you need to know about self-care is that it’s up to you. That’s why it’s called self-care. No one can do it for you. No one can make you take time off work, take a vacation, soak in a bubble bath, get a pedicure, or make you value yourself but you. So, if you’re sitting around and waiting for someone to give you permission to take care of yourself, it’s not going to happen. Now, don’t get me wrong. Loving your children more than life is not a bad thing. But, it’s still okay to want more for your life. It’s not wrong to have a busy season, but you have to stop putting everyone else first and then resenting them for it. The truth is that what your people need from you more than a warm meal on the table or a ride to soccer is a woman in their life who has come alive—a woman who is full of joy and is confident and happy to be doing whatever it is she’s doing. And, by the way, self-care is a way of life. It doesn’t mean taking a bubble bath once a quarter and hoping it’s going to wash your troubles away. I’m talking about valuing yourself and making yourself a regular, consistent priority in your own life. It’s about filling your own tank. It’s just like when you drive. If you run out of gas on the side of the road, it’s so much more frustrating and stressful to get the gas you need to fill up your car. But, if you keep your tank full, it’s pretty easy to stay moving and get a refill when you’re running low. So, stop waiting until you’re on the verge of a nervous breakdown to throw up a flag, raise your hand, and ask for help. Stop waiting until there’s a crisis. Instead, keep your tank full. Stop Apologizing for Taking Care of Yourself So, how do you keep your tank full? Do the things you love to do regularly. It might feel a little awkward or selfish the first time you do it. But I want you to know you don’t have to apologize for it—not the first time you do it or the hundredth time. A few years ago, I was hanging out with some of my mom friends when one of them said she was taking a trip to Florida with a girlfriend. The exciting update was immediately followed by a long list of reasons she needed to go. I wanted to stop her and tell her she didn’t have to explain herself. She didn’t need to have a list of reasons to take this trip. She didn’t have to validate it to us or to anyone else. And I want to say the same thing to you today. The sad part is that I don’t think my friend was trying to justify it to us. I think she was trying to justify it to herself to get through the guilt of doing something for herself. The truth is that doing something for yourself should be a consistent priority, and you never have to be sorry for doing it. Related: Finding Your Purpose Through Intentional Living I’m not saying you should neglect your family or any of your responsibilities. I’m saying that, in order to take care of them, you have to take care of yourself. Taking care of yourself is not selfish. It’s self-preservation, and it’s smart. So, let me ask you: What brings you joy? What gives you energy and fills your tank? What makes you feel rested? Make a list, save it on your phone, or put it by your bedside, and then start to integrate those activities into your life—not just on your birthday or on a holiday, but on a regular basis. When you do this, not only will everyone around you benefit but you’ll enjoy your life so much more. Giving Yourself Grace with Ashley LeMieux I’m so excited for you to meet my good friend Ashley LeMieux. She’s the founder of The Shine Project and Shop Ashley LeMieux. And she’s also the author of the upcoming book Born to Shine: Practical Tools to Help You Shine, Even in Life’s Darkest Moments. Ashley exemplifies this truth so beautifully. Despite the hard roads she’s walked, she shines so brightly. About seven years ago, Ashley was fresh out of college, newly married, and working as an intern at an inner-city high school in Arizona. At that school, she worked with soon-to-be first-generation college students who didn’t have many resources or mentors to help them reach their potential and pursue higher education. Ashely was so passionate about these students, and she wanted to be the person to help them build a successful life. She already had a successful blog called The Shine Project, so she used that platform to advocate for these students and raise money to send them to college. In her first year of doing this, she was able to raise enough money to send 10 students to their freshman year of college. It was an amazing accomplishment, but she wanted to do more. Ashely felt strongly about building a business where these students could work while in college. So, she taught herself how to make jewelry, then taught the students to make it, and they sold the products online. Today, not only are these students learning a valuable skill, but through the sales, The Shine Project is able to send even more students to college. On this episode, Ashley and I talk about: Pushing past fear to make your dreams come true Knowing what your next step should be Taking care of yourself when devastation strikes Turning your pain into your power Giving yourself grace in difficult seasons Challenge: Act the Way You Want to Feel On the last episode of the podcast, I told you the story of my recent trip to the beach with my husband. We were so excited to be taking a vacation—just the two of us. We had booked this amazing hotel that (based on the website’s photos and descriptions) we thought would be right on the beach. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we realized it was all a lie. The hotel actually sat on a busy street. As you can imagine, I was so disappointed. I shared that story with you to challenge you to under-promise and over-deliver for your customers. But, today, I want to share the second part of that story. After being completely frustrated by the hotel, I quickly started researching other hotels to see if I could find a last-minute room that overlooked the beach. I found one just down the street that looked beautiful, but it was so expensive. Plus, we would have had to pay a fee to cancel our current reservation. After about 20 minutes of research, I decided it wasn’t worth all the money and hassle. I realized in that moment that I had two choices: I could continue being disappointed and get frustrated every time a motorcycle drove by. I could change my attitude. I literally told my husband, “We’re not changing hotels. Instead, I’m going to change my attitude right now. I won’t bring this up again. We’re going to have an awesome vacation. Thank you for letting me explore my options, but now that we know it’s not right to move, we’re going to stay at our current hotel, and I’m going to have a great attitude about it.” Related: How to Be Content in Every Situation In that instant, I flipped a switch in my mind, and I made a choice to have a great attitude. Here’s what I want you to take away from that story: You’re going to find yourself in situations in which you’re unhappy or disappointed. It’s inevitable. If you can fix the problem, certainly explore your options. But, if you can’t fix it, my challenge to you is to change your attitude. Flip that switch in your mind, and let it go. Not only will it benefit everyone around you, but you’ll have a much better time as well. You are in control of your feelings. Your feelings are not in control of you. You don’t have to feel a certain way to act a certain way. You can act the way you want to feel, and your feelings will follow.

The reality of life is that either you, or someone you know is currently living though a trauma or loss. Whether it’s a phone call that someone you love has cancer, the death of a loved one, a divorce, a betrayal, the loss of a job, a physical injury…the LIST GOES ON…what do you do? What does life look like the week after, six months after, a year after? How do you help someone who is experiencing this, or how do you help yourself? Ashley Lemieux of The Shine Project opens up and shares her incredible insight and strength after experiencing what she refers to as her ultimate loss. We focus on what the details of her loss and trauma—and specifically her grief and healing process—looked like directly after, eight months after and now a year and half after losing her children in an unexpected and heart-breaking way. Ashley shares an unbelievable wealth of resources, tools, and lessons that’s she has learned through her experience. And shares them in such a profound and beautiful way so that anyone can relate. This is an incredibly important episode, filled with stories, specific ideas and words that I know will help heal and guide anyone who is suffering right now--or anyone who wants to help others. It is an honor to be able to share Ashley and her beautiful story—and I know you’ll feel empowered, inspired and comforted after listening. Today we talk with Ashley Lemieux, a writer-speaker, and Founder of The Shine Project. She is an ambassador for change in this world. As an entrepreneur, she employes inner-city youth giving hope and life to the underserved. Ashley shares her personal story regarding the abuses in the foster care system, and how this had directly affected the lives of her and her husband Mike, and their two children. We want to help bring awareness to all of the babies and children who get lost and mistreated. The only way we can make a change is to start the conversations, and then take action. We need to know the stories so that we can use our anger as fire to fuel change. We can do better, and together will rise up and use our voice for the half a million children in the foster care system. For more information on what you can do, please visit The Shine Project. Has anyone ever told you that when you walk into a room, you just shine? Yeah, me neither. But we’ve all known women who do. Maybe it’s just a shimmer or maybe it’s out-and-out Florida-style rays of sunshine. One definition of shine is “to be bright by reflection of light,” and that’s something we can all exemplify. If you feel self-pity or defeat, chances are Debbie Downer from IT will plop down beside you during lunch and make things worse. As hard as it is some days—especially if you can’t avoid the Debbie Downers in your life—shine bright, girlfriend! And by doing so, you might just attract even more positivity. The Shine Project began when Ashley Lemieux’s heart was taken by the inner-city youth of Phoenix, AZ. What began as a small project has now resulted in over 40 scholarships being given to help kids go to college since 2011. Ashley’s life’s work has been a testament to the love she pours out amidst a story that has been embedded with so much pain.In this heartfelt conversation, Ashley shares about how a call one Sunday morning asking both she and her husband to become permanent guardians to two kids overnight changed their lives forever — and how it took a dark turn 3 years later with a letter from the court in the mail. This is the first time she publicly shares her story.
