Well, here we are-- the final 2016-17 regular season episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! (Elan wants you to know that, if you're a first time listener, this episode of the show is more lightly edited than usual, so expect a few uncharacteristic fumbles and pauses that normally don't make it to air outside of the live broadcast) Elan and Brian wrap up regular season business by combing the league leaders lists for a whole bunch of categories and coming up with a few interesting stories from the season to hone in on, including the unveiling of a recent 2nd overall pick's true star power down the stretch, the same for a slightly less recent 3rd overall pick, an historic season for a goal-hungry rookie, a debate between two Russian forwards who are good for at least 75 points, a Hurricane who broke the 60 point mark, a few goalies who've made a solid case for changing tiers, and the other underappreciated Bruin. Dobber Hockey's Managing Editor Steve Laidlaw came by to tell us about his 2016-17 fantasy all-stars at every position, and then some. He detailed his methodology for picking his all-stars, and also offered a look into his crystal ball for what this heralded group can offer next year, and how soon/late you should make a move for them in your 2017-18 drafts. Then, in a Keeping Karlsson first, the guys are joined by 6 KKUPFL champions to live-draft an 8 team, 6 player playoff pool. They also share some of their playoff pool drafting strategies later on in the show. And finally, they mourn the final week losses of a handful of teams, while celebrating the victories of a joyously long list of champion listeners. Congrats to everyone who won their pool this year! Like a new baby being born into the world, Elan and Brian are pushing out a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! This week's show begins by sizing up most impactful and relevant players who've flown the coop since the trade deadline, and the players they may have displaced. This includes a visit to Washington and St. Louis's even strength and powerplay blueline setups, the blue paint situations for the Lightning and Kings, the top nine in Minnesota and Boston, defensive depth in Pittsburgh, and a couple floaters in Ottawa. The guys then shed light on those who've come out bruised and/or battered, including Florida's sort-of-but-not-so-much-anymore #1 goalie, a Devil we know, a Sabre that had just gotten rolling, and a Star that never really had a chance. We also pontificate on the healthy return of an Isle blueliner. Some players are hot this week! They include a lower-key sophomore and a once again promising forward in Buffalo, a couple Taylor Hall linemates, a Habs goalie who may also just be considered as being back to normal, a Flames goalie who we wonder whether this might be his normal, and a Calgary d-man who we wish it still could be his normal. Some players are cold this week. They include a top six Penguin who otherwise looks fantastic, a sobering season by a Coyotes defenseman that has cut back on taking shots, a Canes blueliner still taking shots but not getting anywhere, a New York top six/niner who has lost his early season sheen, and a couple of Avs forwards whose performances personify the mess in Colorado.Players discussed on this episode include Jonathan Quick, Ben Bishop, Peter Budaj, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Martin Hanzal, Kevin Shattenkirk, John Carlson, Matt Niskanen, Alex Pietrangelo, Colton Parayko, Alex Steen, Mark Streit, Connor Sheary, Chris Kunitz, Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist, Valtteri Filppula, Steve Mason, Drew Stafford, Michal Neuvirth, Ryan Spooner, Frank Vatrano, Alex Burrows, Viktor Stalberg, Roberto Luongo, James Reimer, Thomas Vanek, Kyle Okposo, Evander Kane, Ryan O'Reilly, Jack Eichel, Michael Cammalleri, Travis Zajac, Kyle Palmieri, Taylor Hall, Antoine Roussel, Jason Spezza, Jiri Hudler, Ales Hemsky, Travis Hamonic, Josh Ho-Sang, Nate Prosser, Nick Leddy, Johnny Boychuk, Carey Price, Alex Radulov, Brian Elliott, Michael Ferland, Mark Giordano, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Mike Smith, Louis Domingue, Justin Faulk, Jacob Slavvin, Brett Pesce, Noah Hanifin, Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, Mika Zibanejad and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! If you enjoy the show, please support future episodes by becoming a patron of Keeping Karlsson.  Keeping Karlsson patrons can join our patron-only Facebook group and take part in (and receive audio from) a monthly live, face-to-face and interactive Keeping Karlsson recording! You can also support us by telling a friend, subscribing to and reviewing Keeping Karlsson on iTunes, and following us on Twitter (@keepingkarlsson). Boxscores! Line juggling! On-ice events! Terrible goaltending performances! They're all finally here after a long season of waiting, and the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is here to catch you up on all that you need to know about the first five days of NHL regular season play. First off, what the heck should you do with your team post-draft? Should you tinker with adds/drops or stand pat? Elan and Brian dish out some advice on early season management strategies, describing how they evaluate and react to the first handful of games played in a season. Next, they dig into the first week's most tantalizing performances, rolling through a list of the vets, rookies and tweeners who are scoring above a point-per-game pace at this early stage, and making the call on whether they're 'add now!!'s or wait-and-sees.  Elan and Brian then go over a handful of injuries, specifically speculating on what the heck might happen in LA's crease. A discussion of players on cold streaks-- or, well, whatever you'd call guys who are scoreless in back to back games to start the season-- rounds out the show. Players discussed on this episode include Connor McDavid, Brad Marchand, Auston Matthews, Jonathan Marchesseault, David Pastrnak, Richard Panik, Joe Colborne, Leon Draisaitl, Paul Stastny, Nail Yakupov, the STL D corps, Erik Karlsson, Zack Smith, Chris Kreider, Pavel Buchnevich, Rick Nash, Mika Zibanejad, Patrick Laine, Mark Scheifele, Aleksander Barkov, Jaromir Jagr, Mitch Marner, Nazem Kadri, Oscar Klefbom, Andrej Sekera, Jake Gardiner, Nikita Zaitsev, every other Leaf, Blake Wheeler, Nik Ehlers, Mathieu Perreault, Jarome Iginla, Matt Duchene, Martin Hanzal, Radim Vrbata, Christian Dvorak, Jonathan Quick, Jeff Zatkoff, Peter Budaj, Ryan O'Reilly, Kyle Okposo, PA Parenteau, Taylor Hall, Travis Zajac, Kris Versteeg, Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Daniel Tkachuk, Rickard Rakell, Jakob Silfverberg, Nick Ritchie, Cam Fowler, Devin Setoguchi, Jeff Carter, Dwight King, Seth Griffith, Teemu Pulkkinen, Mike Condon, Tomas Vanek, Sean Couturier, Bradyen Schenn, Zach Werenski, Seth Jones, Brian Elliott, Chad Johnson, Cam Ward, Eddie Lack, John Tavares, Andrew Ladd, Jason Chimera, Josh Bailey, Artemi Panarin, Jiri Hudler, Patrick Eaves, Dougie Hamilton, Dennis Wideman, Travis Konecny and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! Afraid you've missed a single hockey news item or note from the past week? Or that you're misreading the numbers while trying to make sense of the outlandish player performances to date? Let this brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast be your antidote! Pearson-mania all over again? Matthews a top ten scorer? Is there an impressive Canuck? Is Brouwer a more interesting human being than fantasy own? Do we have a Jack Campbell sighting on the horizon? Time to panic about Panik? Jimmy How-muchlongercanhepossiblykeepthisup? Boone no longer a boon for fantasy owners? Montoya earning greater share of the starts? Elan begins by going way off script to officially anoint the heir of his hashtag-team allegiance for this season, and then gets to a welcome group of outjuries that are shaking up depth charts, including a new opportunity for a returned St Louis Blue, and a way out of the doghouse for a Boston Bruin. Then it's over to injuries, where we draw particular attention to a new second-best power play option in Pittsburgh, weak goalie depth in Arizona and LA. Taking a tour of hot streaks around the league, Elan and Brian work to figure out when two overachieving Blackhawks may come down to earth, whether a Detroit blue-liner has hope of regaining his form of yesteryear, which ice time distribution quirks are favouring which Hurricanes, and whether Huberdeau's replacement in Florida is earning his keep on the top line. Elan also gets pretty sad about not having enough patience for a certain Leaf centreman to contribute to his roster, and gets very un-sad about a second line centre in Colorado. The guys also examine the meaning of roster moves made in Columbus and Anaheim, and line changing madness happening in Calgary, Nashville and New Jersey-- the last of which has Elan wondering whether there's more than one fantasy relevant Devil to be owned. The show wraps up with some early snoozer candidates, including this year's edition of a quality winger struggling in Vancouver, a non-Okposo in Brooklyn, a couple goalies struggling in Canadian creases, and an Atlantic PPQB with nothing to show for his efforts. Players discussed on this episode include Carey Price, Richard Panik, Auston Matthews, Jimmy Howard, Tanner Pearson, Zach Werenski, Shayne Gostisbehere, Mike Green, Jaden Schwartz, David Perron, Nail Yakupov, Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Spooner, Michael Stone, Alex Goligoski, Brayden Schenn, Matt Read, Tanner Pearson, Mike Smith, Louis Domingue, Justin Peters, Jeff Zatkoff, Peter Budaj, Jack Campbell, Patrick Sharp, Ales Hemsky, Brett Ritchie, Radek Faksa, Justin Schultz, Marc-Andre Fleury, Brian Campbell, Duncan Keith, Jonathan Marchessault,  Lee Stempniak, Victor Rask, Jeff Skinner, Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, Elias Lindholm, Alex Killorn, Petr Mrazek, Nazem Kadri, Kari Lehtonen, Sergey Bobrovsky, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, Matt Duchene, Mikhail Grigorenki, Mikko Rantanen, Shea Theodore, Brandon Carlo, Torey Krug, Cam Fowler, Sami Vatanen, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Boone Jenner, Johnny Boychuk, Kris Versteeg, Troy Brouwer, Viktor Arvidsson, Kevin Fiala, TJ Brodie, Brian Elliott, Frederik Andersen, Loui Eriksson, Brandon Sutter, Andrew Ladd and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! As on any given Sunday, go ahead and pop in your air buds-- it's time for little fantasy giants Elan and Brian to help you remember the titans (and not-so-titans) of this week's NHL action in a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast!  In this week's injuries, it's a real case of you don't know what you've got til it's gone with a shelved even-strength stud in Pittsburgh, a still underappreciated centreman in Dallas, and a Lightning forward whose absences from the scoresheet are now further assured. In outjuries, the guys go back to the future in trying to imagine what 2/3 of the Panthers' first line can offer on offesne, and what that also means for former and remaining members of that top trio. They also head to the desert to wonder how excited it's reasonable to get about they Coyotes' likely top scorer, and then move slightly westward for a Kings forward who finally has returned to the lineup. This episode's hot streaks feature your Cane(s) of the Week, a powerless Senators centreman finding his way at even strength, a meh Shark becoming more whoa, Cody Franson???, a re-established Nashville #1, and a challenger for #1 on the Columbus blueline. Cold streaks end the show, with looks at an ever-alarming press box presence in Philadelphia, an unsprung foward in Minnesota, and a flickering Flame. Welcome to the quasiquincentennial edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! Injuries open this week's episode, as Elan and Brian get into who's out of the lineup, and who's moving up the depth chart as a result. We take a look at the top six in Pittsburgh, a nail in the coffin in Carolina, an unheralded shooting wizard moving on up in Nashville, a de-railed PP1 coup in Washington, and open doors to creases in the Pacific and Atlantic. There's also movement in the F corps in Toronto, Philadelphia and New York. Outjuries follow, with the guys taking stock of several players returning to lineups already in progress. A pair of Kings enter an ace lineup, a top six forward in New Jersey that Brian urged you to pick up last week does heavenly things for himself and others, a Sabre tries to sharpen his team's shooting, and depth Panthers and Blue Jackets may only be drops in larger buckets. Who's hot this week? We'll tell you! Specifically, there is a Duck who is actually scoring more goals than maybe he should, a couple Blues feeling downright jazzy, and a couple Canucks desperately trying to make the most of their situations. Who's snoozing this week? We'll tell you that, too! Hover over the drop button for blueliners in Columbus, Boston and Minnesota, a couple goalies in the Metropolitan, and a forward in Philly. Players featured on this episode include Jake Guentzel, Calvin Pickard, Semyon Varlamov, Petr Mrazek, Cam Ward, Viktor Arvidsson, James Neal, William Nylander, Leo Komarov, Nikita Soshnikov, Nazem Kadri, Mitch Marner, John Carlson, Chris Kunitz, Jesper Fast, Chris Kreider, Travis Konecny, Wayne Simmonds, Anze Kopitar, Marian Gaborik, Jeff Carter, Tyler Toffoli, Peter Budaj, Carey Price, Tuukka Rask, Devan Dubnyk, Michael Cammalleri, Ryan O'Reilly, Evander Kane, Nick Bjugstad, Seth Jones, Zach Werenski, Oscar Klefbom, David Perron, Jaden Schwartz, Rickard Rakell, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Brandon Carlo, Jaroslav Halak, JF Berube, Ryan Kesler, Jakob Silfverberg, Jonathan Bernier, Loui Eriksson, Bo Horvat, Keith Kinkaid, Cory Schneider, Matt Dumba, Matt Murray, Marc-Andre Fleury and more. This episode was sponsored in part by SeatGeek.
