Welcome to Truth Wanted! This week we have ObjectivelyDan and Phil Ferguson taking your calls. We get into prayer, why crypto is a scam, and other issues.First up is Coop the Coop-Cooper in NY is perplexed why Dan would tell them they could continue praying while deconstructing their belief. Sure, you can pray to anything, anyone, or no one, who cares. Phil brings up the argument that why are believers praying to a god to change the plan created for them. If prayer makes you feel good or helps with life's stress then go for it. Just don't mistake it with action, prayer doesn't help others.Keith in NJ thinks there may be some legitimate crypto currencies. He gives the example of his friend giving free wifi devices that pays you in crypto for time kept online. Interesting concept but Phil would need to know more about the device and company before advising to join. Who knows, they could be stealing peoples data to sell it.James in VA, an ex jehovah witness, asks for advice for people leaving religion that you donated all your profits. Thanks for joining us for the special episode. This week's “We Want The Truth” segment is: What is REALLY in the Egyptian pyramids? Put your answers in the comments to possibly be read on air!

Join us today with the fun dual of Shannon Q and Phil Ferguson who will be looking for callers to finally present the proof of god.Clarence in Ohio would like to talk about the arrogance of anthropocentric religions leading to dangerous consequences. His perspective is that secular humanism tends to be this way where pantheism does not. This is more of a philosophy than a religion. Is there a specific list of rules with scientific pantheism that needs to be adhered to? And what did the people who made these rules call themselves before the rules were made?Next up is Shane in GA that is going to lay some math on us. He is fixing to show us something that is irrefutable. He starts with Revelations and then Daniel. He talked about Mohammed dying in 632.5. And then we are supposed to go forward 1335 years and to 1967. Abraham has two sons going back to Genesis. His feelings got hurt and started yelling and cussing. Still no math.Kevin in Canada believes miracles are proof of god because god is the only one that can make them happen. Recorded(recalled) near death experiences are proof of these miracles. Is it possible that this experience was not actually the person outside their physical body? None of these claims can be substantiated or repeated. The sigma-6 receptor prevents hypoxia by allowing DMT to be produced which is a natural hallucinogen. How are these things miracles when there is a chemical explanation? Your lack of understanding does not make it a miracle.Dominic has a way to prove that gods are real and the soul is real and the bible is of divine origin. Falun Dafa meditation practice explains about the universe and reveals things to him. He asks if not knowing something shows ignorance in the subject. If all the evidence about god has been presented, would we be ignorant? Even if ignorance meant there was a possibility of a god, even a probability is not sufficient for a belief.John in the U.A.E wants to get over his fear in hell. Think of all the other religions around the world with the different hells created by different deities. Why are you not afraid of these other hells? Be patient with yourself and the journey. Recovering from Religion has a hotline to help along the way.Mike in MI asks if one can be an atheist without god. This depends on the definition of atheism which is going to be different for each person you talk to.Kevin in GA asks how can god be demonstrated as the god he says he is? He then talks about psychic readings. Remember that psychics take the hits and forget the misses. The odds are in favor of the hits.Luke in Canada wants to know what is missing to be able to say there are miracles. Hearing second hand information is not enough to prove miracles. Ask your deity what it would take to convince Shannon that a miracle happened.Thank you for tuning in and we will see you next show!
The Non-Prophets, Episode 21.09 airing Sunday, 2022-02-27 featuring Cynthia, Phil Ferguson, and Malty.EVERYBODY FALL IN!!Welcome to the Non-Prophets basic training! We are going to turn you from raw recruits to lean mean skeptic thinking news and daily topic absorbing machine!First lesson! Paraphrasing the fifth general order; you must obey all orders of the commanding officer. Unless you feel it somehow violates your religion. An Airforce officer fight against taking the Covid vaccine. Drop and give me 20 ma'am!Next, TEN HUT! POPE WATCH! Pope Francis condemns the assisted suicide while the Italian government mulls it's efficacy. Many years in the making and following a man who was trapped in his body after a horrible accident. Can the Pope allow that punishment to end or is it eternal punishment for wanting a release? Then we double time it for a brisk 60 year march for new black history. Friend of the show Mandisa Thomas shows that a minority in a minority is able to raise their voices shouting out injustices. Will you join in the cadence?Lastly, we get into a Special High Intensity Treatment that might seem strange, but it's true. A healer in Pakistan convinced a woman that forcing a nail in her head would make sure her next child was male. Whisky Tango Foxtrot are these faith healers doing to these poor people?Segment 1 [03:51]: Air Force can't compel Christian officer to get Covid shot, judge rulesGround, Feb 16, 2022 https://ground.news/article/judge-air... Greetings heathens! Join us for today's show with Johnny Angel and Phil Ferguson who tackle questions from callers on how to handle today's challenges when speaking with friends. First caller is Jessica in Ut who asks if atheism can be harmful to mental health. Some people find the truth hard to handle. You are not alone when you feel that all the certainties are gone that used to be there when you had the support system of your church. Recovering from Religion can help with this. Count the good things in life and not just the negative hits. Is the cause of your distress the newly found lack of belief in magical thinking, or is it something else? Next is Dave from NC wants to talk about the driver behind the holocaust being racism. He has an issue with society having racial categories to emphasize the illusion that races are separate. It comes down to definitions and we often talk past each other as humans. It is not our place to say who is and isn't a race or who is in a struggle or not. It is more important to learn from the people who were involved than for us to speculate. Do you recognize that certain people statistically get the short end of the stick in society?Next is B from VA who is talking to a religious friend that does not accept the different between sex and gender. It seems like he says these things to encourage people to hate him. The friend says the LGBTQ community is ruining the world. He also thinks science is wrong about sex and gender. Many people have received their marching orders from a book and some people believe this because it is what they learned growing up. This friend needs to meet more people in the LGBTQ community so his shitty attitude will become less. Our hope is that bigots are dwindling and fading away. Do you feel compelled to be the person that changes your friend's mind on the subject?Dan from OH is next that would like to know how to best converse with his friend who is autistic on theist topics. His friend at work is a Christian Fundamentalist and does not understand why the only atheist he knows does not hate Islam. We are not experts on autism, but talking with people can be different for each person. You can use clever ways to look at the Bible as a club when talking about Christianity and argue literally anything. Maybe there is something on the fringe that you can find that will help with the smallest improvement that can be enough to nudge the asteroid off course. Marcus in TX would like to know how to play off the religious person's superiority to encourage them into being better human beings. The morality that most people follow is not the same that is laid out in their holy book. People just assume that believers are a positive force in the world because they are part of a charity. You are not moral because of the Bible but in spite of the Bible. Ask questions. Do atheists tip better? What percentage of your tithing actually goes to helping people? Thank you all for joining us! We want to hear your experience so please keep calling.

In today's episode of the Atheist Experience, Matt Dillahunty is joined by Phil Ferguson. Welcome back Phil! Our first caller today is Alexander from Chile who asserts that the Kalam Cosmological Argument proves god. The caller also claims that our feelings of awe towards spectacular moments in nature is proof of the supernatural.Next is David from CA who takes issue with “Atheist's” demand for physical evidence. David, you do not listen. Rather than build a strawman on what evidence you think Atheists want, maybe ask them.Up next is Levi from FL who asks if our hosts accept the fine tuned universe argument as evidence of something before the big bang. You first have to show that the universe didn't unfold the way it has through chance and that fine-tuning is even possible.Next is Juan from Ecuador who is wondering how we can dismiss proposed supernatural explanations for detected, but unexplained events.Up next is Fallon from Canada who believes that Matt gives Atheists a bad name by getting frustrated with callers and not answering their questions.Next is Paulo from DC who is calling to prove God using the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Constitutional rights are not gifts from God while also being evidence for the existence of that same God. That is circular.Up next is Hank from TX who has a question regarding Matt's position on Life being preferable to Death. This is a very general position and there are always exceptions to that rule, and there are always personal justifications that one can make on an individual level, not always altruistic, for either choosing to live or to die.Our final caller is Paul from the UK who wants to talk about the concept of belief in belief. Belief in belief is problematic because it's based on the fear of being cast out of a social group (i.e religion), and more importantly, it capitalizes on the fear that once you are out or are not part of religion you are socially dead.

In today’s episode of the Atheist Experience, Matt Dillahunty is joined by Phil Ferguson. Phil has been a long time and recurring co-host on the show. Welcome back to the co-host chair Phil! Also happy birthday Phil!Let’s get to calls. The first caller is David from Georgia. He claims that 100,000 years ago, the magnetic field was decaying and caused the Earth to… all of the what? I am not following this caller at all. Phil puts it succinctly: “Wow, that was… profound.”Next up, a different David, this time from New York would like to talk about prostitution and has reasons for believing it is morally wrong. He provides these reasons and doesn’t provide evidence or provide justification for these reasons: 1. Self value (“selling oneself”) 2. Harmful/damaging to one’s self/spiritually/psyche. It sounds more like he has a personal problem with it and seems to be projecting. Paul wants to know why atheism is a better default position than theism. It’s real simple, Paul. We have no evidence for the existence of a god (any god), much like we also have no evidence for the existence of Thor, Odin, Zeus, et cetera. Oh… here comes the argument from experience and god of the gaps. And here comes the intelligent design argument. Todd is an atheist and is wondering how to approach the argument of intelligent design provided by friends and family. ‘I don’t know’ is a legitimate answer to this sort of argument and saying so shouldn’t be seen as a weak position.Tom in Ohio, is hearing voices and claims they are mystical/natural in origin. He has heard these voices since the 70s and have increased in intensity lately. Oh, I feel for you Tom. Please seek and find the professional help you so desperately need. Pack it up folks, we are done being atheists! Miner is up next. He says the story he has is very powerful and says once people hear this story, we won’t be atheists anymore. Are you ready? His story: Some helicopters scared some bobcats off while he was playing guitar on a mountain with a friend. That’s it... Just checking, I’m still an atheist.Mallory from Oregon is up next. Recently deconverted after most of her life passionate about religion. She is having trouble finding joy or interest at the same intensity as religion anymore. Matt provides some really great advice on this. You definitely don’t have to figure this out today, best of luck!RJ claims he can prove god with the mathematical progression argument and statistics. No it won’t. He claims that static growth models and population science gives more relevance to the bible. Claims the current count of human population is impossible. You didn’t do the math right RJ. Stop Googling and go talk to anthropologists and scientists.Jesse from California claims that the brain has a high level of consciousness… then changes the subject when he is actually on air. Dude, that’s really dishonest. Next!Steve has facts and evidence to back up his opinion about god and prayer. Um, ok. How did god lead you to Daniel 8? And you’re done! That’s our show for today folks, stay safe out there! Even though it looks like the shelter-in-place orders are being lifted, please try to continue to keep yourself safe and healthy out there.

SHOW NOTESToday’s show is hosted by the powerful Jenna Belk and Phil Ferguson of The Phil Ferguson Show, where Phil talks religion, politics, and money (the 3 things you shouldn’t talk about with your family!).Our first caller today is Arthur, who is concerned that his Nigerian family will try to re-convert him when he goes back to see them for the first time since he has publicly identified as an atheist.Thomas in Georgia doesn’t seem to have ever had this conversation before, and we seem to be able to offer him new questions. We’re hoping he calls back if he finds some answers for us.Our next caller, Mark in Montenegro, asks why we “throw out” the Koran “just because it had bad things in it.” He seems to miss the part where people base their entire morality on these books… He then tells Jenna her argument comes from ego. Fun!Let’s talk about Satan, ba-by, let’s talk about you and me! Arturo came to the show to straw man Satanists, or something! Apparently he found some real Satanists who eat babies, or something?Akeem in Philadelphia thinks he has a good secular reason why homosexuality is wrong by quoting a debunked article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jonentine/2014/03/10/did-the-new-yorker-botch-puff-piece-on-frog-scientist-tyrone-hayes-turning-rogue-into-beleaguered-hero/#1bcbf81147f6 ..we don’t end up agreeing with Akeen. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Next up- Hallie in California is a fundamentalist Christian...or was until recently. She’s starting to back away from that, and has questions about her faith in general. Hallie may be in the midst of a skeptically motivated de-conversion!Caller Danny from London presents us with a version of the Kalam which includes a definition of God as “whatever caused the universe.”Jason in South Carolina says he’s a theist who leans atheist. Apparently he’s so compelled by a perceived lack of moral arbitration “beyond human beings” without god that he believes in a god. Hmm.That’s our show! In today’s very special episode, we have financial guru Phil Ferguson joining Eric Murphy in the co-host seat. Are you ready for retirement heathens? Do you have buckets to squirrel away funds for vacations and other things (cough, medical, cough)? Are you ready for the impending apocalypse? Contact Phil for more info, hope you have a lot of assets though: http://polarisfinancialplanning.com/ Let’s get to calls. Khalil from Virginia is claiming there is scientific evidence that supports the bible. He also claims that because of Adam and Eve, we are all sinners. Is there a sinful gene? (No, there isn’t and we don’t believe your assertion.) Try again Khalil! Next up, Danielle from Louisiana would like to talk about her belief in the bible and how it supports the flat earth due to being under a dome. She is also an anti-vaxxer. This should be an interesting call. You definitely will want to listen in, she is FASCINATING!The following caller named Jonathan from Arizona would like to talk about the previous callers and their stances. He also has trouble with the ad hominem on ‘Bronze Age Goat Herders’ who wrote the bible. The next caller in the queue is Caleb from Vancouver, Canada (did you know there is a Vancouver, Washington? He’s not from there…) Anyway, Caleb is calling in about hearing his name in a song from ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’. Is it authentic or not? Is it audio pareidolia?Jesse in New Jersey is seeking help on how to handle family who are forcing their religion on him. If you are financially dependent upon your family, please tread carefully and purposefully. It can get better though. We hope things work out for you!Afterwards we have Eli from Oregon. He claims that heaven isn’t a safe place because it is not perfect anymore (after kicking Lucifer out of it.) I had trouble following this call. Maybe you’ll have a better time understanding. Tune in! Our last caller of the day, Javier… Oooooops! Sorry Javier, we dropped your call. Sigh. Not worth even writing about. And that’s it folks! Thanks for tuning in! See you all next week!

Phil Ferguson is host of the cleverly titled “Phil Ferguson Show” (a title only to be rivaled by an atheist show called, like, The Atheist Experience).Phil’s area of expertise involves economics. The coronavirus has caused quite a stir the world over in the past month, and some are saying it’s causing a stock market crash. Dan asks Phil if it’s true that the virus is affecting the stock market, and Phil explains some of the thought behind this.Caller William in Australia asks what we do on this show and elaborates on what his Christian beliefs look like. Things get interesting when William says he uses science to validate his beliefs, but doesn’t think Christianity and science fit together. Then we talk about the coronavirus again inexplicably!Lin in Michigan has called before, and today she brings us her memory of an experience where she thought she saw a UFO! (She later learned what the source of the lights was. No aliens, unfortunately.)We get an interesting call from Julie in Idaho who asks a seemingly odd question of two atheist skeptics: What are your thoughts on the afterlife? Julie is an ex-JW who is now exploring other religions, especially Buddhism. Dan and Phil offer some advice about ex-JW resources and give a perspective on the afterlife Julie probably hasn’t heard. We get a caller (Ed) who asks a question that’s specifically in Phil’s wheelhouse: should his daughter who has $10k get a CD or a bond? What follows are words I only slightly understand. Then Ed gives us a cool potential explanation for UFOs or spiritual orbs, which I’m...also unsure how to explain. Thanks for confusing me, Ed!Why is it that religions cause issues when we’re dealing with huge crises? Stan wants to know the same thing. (He didn’t say he’s our biggest fan, but his name is Stan.)Our Belgian caller Fred asks if Dan and Phil feel that there is anything nearing a religious adoration of clinging to their gas cars over electric vehicles. He offers a few of the arguments he’s heard about this topic as well.To end the night, we go to the incredibly simple topic of...simulation theory! (The Matrix 3 sucked!) Sean gives us something called “the Bostrom argument” with just a dash of Elon Musk’s ideas...did someone say electric cars? That’s the show today! Believe it or not, Congress apparently does occasionally pass laws still. One such law is the SECURE Act. The stated goals of the legislation involve trying to improve the retirement plans and options for Americans who are struggling to save enough. But was the legislation well-written or will there be unintended consequences? We've got Phil Ferguson of Polaris Financial Planning and host of the Phil Ferguson show to give us the breakdown!
Today's episode is one big Andrew Was Right! As we predicted, the House transmitted the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate this week, and we unpack all of this week's news in connection with impeachment, including the new GAO report on the Impoundment Control Act, the testimony from Lev Parnas, and much, much more. By the end of this super-sized episode, we'll also give your our predictions as to who might be a surprise profile in courage. The answer WILL surprise you! We begin with the GAO report that's being quoted everywhere. Are media sources getting it right? And what's in the report that's not being talked about? Listen and find out! Did Trump's OMB violate the Impoundment Control Act? (Hint: yes.) Then, we take a look at the transmission of articles, the House managers named, the rules involved, the President's amazing legal team, and much, much more. After all of that, we get to the ultimate question: will this moo the noodle? And if so, who are the Republicans that can be moo'ed? We name names! We also evaluate the Lev Parnas testimony and try and steelman Trump's arguments. Then, of course, it's time for an all-new #T3BE on cocaine smuggling, featuring a special guest player (and next week's guest) Phil Ferguson. Appearances None! #108: Bitcoin - Catching a Falling Knife This week's episode of Cellar Door Skeptics, Tanner interviews Phil Ferguson from Polaris Financial Planning to talk about Bitcoin, Income Tax on the rich, and his book recommendations for those who want to learn more and become better financial planners. Phil owns his own successful financial planning business and we start the episode out by talking about whether bitcoin is a good investment or not. As an expert in financial planning, we wanted to pick his brain about the phenomenon of Bitcoin and if we should jump on board or hold our distance. The show also focuses on talking about some of the items that Hanna and Tanner did not cover in episode 107 with a slant on how it affects income tax from a financial planning perspective. The show ends with some solid advice for those just getting into financial planning or those whom want to take a deeper dive. #Bitcoin #PolarisFinancial #FinancialPlanning #Investments #Podcast Subscribe: http://www.spreaker.com/user/cellardoorskeptics Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CellarDoorSkeptics RSS Feed: https://www.spreaker.com/user/8326690/episodes/feed iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/cellar-door-skeptics/id1044088575?mt=2&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 Website: http://cellardoorskeptics.com Stitcher: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/cellar-door-skeptics Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/cellardoorskeptics PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/CellarDoorSkeptics Intro Music: http://aloststateofmind.com/ Links ------ http://polarisfinancialplanning.com/ https://www.spreaker.com/show/phil-fergusons-tracks ------ https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/12/bitcoins-insane-energy-consumption-explained/ https://bitcoin.org/en/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonbloomberg/2017/12/09/seven-lies-bitcoin-fans-tell-themselves-and-anyone-else-who-will-listen/#212fac03402d http://markets.businessinsider.com/currencies/news/buying-bitcoin-with-mortgages-credit-cards-2017-12-1010998104 https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonbloomberg/2017/06/26/what-is-bitcoins-elusive-intrinsic-value/#5f6190d77194 ------ The richest man in babylon book https://www.amazon.com/Richest-Man-Babylon-George-Clason/dp/1505339111 A Random Walk Down Wall Street https://www.amazon.com/Random-Walk-Down-Wall-Street/dp/0393330338 Common Sense on Mutual Funds: Fully Updated 10th Anniversary Edition https://www.amazon.com/Common-Sense-Mutual-Funds-Anniversary/dp/0470138130/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1513042688&sr=1-1&keywords=common+sense+on+mutual+funds

In this episode of Opening Arguments, Andrew and Thomas invite on Phil Ferguson, host of the cleverly-titled Phil Ferguson Show, to discuss why only suckers save money for college. First, Andrew discusses the scuttlebutt surrounding whether Ivy Tech will appeal the decision in Hively v. Ivy Tech that the guys discussed in Episode 60. After that, we look at the best(?) potential educational bill that might come before Donald Trump's desk: H.R. 529, which would make modest expansions to so-called "529" college savings plans. This, of course, is to set up our "C" segment, in which the guys interview Phil Ferguson and find out what he really thinks of 529 plans in specific and saving for college in general. How clickbaity is our episode title? You'll have to listen and find out! Finally, we end with the answer to Thomas Takes the Bar Exam Question #20 about whether a law prohibiting hiring those undergoing drug treatment or with prior drug convictions would violate the equal protection clause. Remember that TTTBE issues a new question every Friday, followed by the answer on next Tuesday's show. Don't forget to play along by following our Twitter feed (@Openargs) and/or our Facebook Page and quoting the Tweet or Facebook Post that announces this episode along with your guess and reason(s)! Recent Appearances: Andrew was also a guest on Episode 209 of the Phil Ferguson Show; please give it a listen! Show Notes & Links So-called "529 plans" are governed by 26 U.S.C. § 529, which you can read here. Phil Ferguson is a financial advisor and host of "The Phil Ferguson Show." In this bonus podcast, Phil speaks with Seth Andrews about the application of critical thinking to areas of our lives beyond religion, including the decisions we make with our money. With (occasionally thick) financial jargon relating to things like stocks, mutual funds, college savings, retirement planning, etc, this show won't be for everyone. But it may provide some useful information to those interested in investment-related material.Phil's website: http://polarisfinancialplanning.com/polaris-blog/the-phil-ferguson-show-podcast/
