She is a lobbyist for BSL, the founder of Outcats and Underdogs (a nonprofit advocating for at risk cats and dogs, including handicapped animals, black cats, and large breed dogs), a pin up, artist, and all around badass. Full disclosure, the Idiots were shortly after asked to take part of Brienna's rescue group called Outcats and Underdogs, specializing in finding homes for high risk pets, such as black cats, bully breeds, disabled, and elderly pets, among others. As enough time passed between recording date and release date, things happened. However, Georgia House members have been considering adjustments to the program due to budgetary concerns. In 2020, Governor Brian Kemp signed a bill limiting state-sponsored dual enrollment options by capping the number of state-funded credit hours per student to 30 and restricting offerings to core academic courses for high school juniors and seniors. Lawmakers approved these changes after a 2018 auditor's report revealed escalating costs, from $18.5 million in 2014 to $78.8 million in 2018. Dual enrollment enrollment also decreased between 2020 and 2021, possibly due to both the new law and the pandemic, and some lawmakers are concerned about the cost and efficiency of the program..............This from Now Habersham Georgia's diversity makes for a polyglot paradise The proportion of Georgians speaking a language other than English at home has increased fivefold since 1980. What do burnout, self-care and boundaries have to do with rescue? Everything! We'll learn the emotional toll that rescue has taken on our Roundtable participants. This conversation gets incredibly vulnerable and I commend the courage that it took to share this with the world. Our Rescue Roundtable also explores ideas for creating a more sustainable organization and what they would differently in the future. We start off picking up where we left off last week and jump right into those Home Visits. While some people may think these are borderline invasive, our Rescuers spill the tea on the real reasons that they've turned down potential adopters after a home visit. And it's nothing to do with those dust bunnies behind the tv! We also discuss how rescues choose the dogs that they take into their organization. I had a lot of questions about this because I've seen so much smack talk on social media about this over the years. I was surprised to learn how much thought goes into creating the right balance of adoptable dogs! And also, what do rescues do with difficult dogs that they don't think they can safely place in a home? I'm so grateful to our Rescue Roundtable: Nichol O'Marr (foster for Pitties & Purrs Rescue), Melissa Trotman (founder of Bella's Bully Buddies which adopted out 1,000+ dogs from 2012 – 2019) and Jen Carle (currently Director of Operations for Tara's House Animal Rescue). Dogs, drama and death threats…oh my! On this Roundtable, we'll hear from 3 women in Baltimore's animal rescue community who have collectively impacted the lives of countless dogs. I brought these guests together so we could dive into topics such as who determines Adoption Requirements & Procedures and how rescues can set up their Foster Families for success. But while I've been around the animal welfare world since 2008, there was still a lot that I didn't know – especially about the “dark side” of rescue and even dogs in “witness protection.” Some of it was quite shocking! In fact, while we were recording the Roundtable, Nichol was getting text message updates about a dog situation that had been unfolding since 3 AM – and this is emotional to hear. So we dig into the tough topics as well: guilt, social media drama and why can't the rescues just all get along? Special thanks to: Nichol O'Marr (foster for Pitties & Purrs Rescue), Melissa Trotman (founder of Bella's Bully Buddies which found homes for 1,000+ dogs from 2012 – 2019) and Jen Carle (currently Director of Operations for Tara's House Animal Rescue). Most of us have breed preferences; whether it's how they look and/or the collection of traits we assume the breed to have. Today we explore if these breed stereotypes are really valid because the existing research on breed and behavior is largely mixed; while breed can influence some behavior, there's a wide range of variability, even within breeds. The science is a bit of a mess.So we thought it would be fun to explore our breed stereotypes with some breeds today based on our experience of working with thousands of dogs; German Shepherds (03m8s)Doodles (10m40s)Shiba Inus (16m50s)Pitties (27m05s)Huskies (38m26s)Chihuahuas (46m55s)For each breed, we discuss what behavior challenges we typically see with them, why we love working with the breed, and what are some things to keep top of mind if you are living with or working with one of these breeds. At the end of the episode (1h01m,15s), we discuss when stereotyping breeds can be helpful, and when it can be harmful. If you like this episode and want us to cover other breeds in a parat 2, please send us a message on our Instagram account @instinctdogtrainingGuests:- Suze Cullinan (she/her/hers) CDBC is a Certified Behavior Consultant and President at INSTINCT Northern New Jersey, INSTINCT Jersey Shore, and INSTINCT Philadelphia.- Dresden Graff (he/him/his) CPDT-KA, Certified Trainer and Owner of INSTINCT Forth WorthHosts Brian Burton (he/him/his) and Sarah Fraser (she/her/hers) are Co-Founders and Co-CEOs of INSTINCT Dog Behavior & Training. But hopefully us getting bummed out might entertain you! Or you can just join us in being bummed. Up to you, really.

With the increased popularity of Balanced Training, corrections is a hot topic in the behavioral world. Rewards are the basis of Positive Reinforcement Training. Because of this focus on rewards and corrections, many trainers and behaviourists are "missing the forest for the trees". Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which UPWARD Dogology is grounded in, uses rewards to establish the platform, but is not dependent on rewards or correction to change perception and in turn change behaviour. Is one method better that the other? Well, that depends on many factors. For a deeper look into these topics and methods, please check out the episodes in seasons 1 and 3. Season 5 is a "Dogology" (kinda like a mixology) of tips, Q and A's, interviews, discussions and a deeper look into the 3 components of UPWARD Dogology all with the goal of increasing awareness and making the world a better place for all animals, including humans! Season 4 is interviews with people and organizations that help animals. Increase your awareness and be part of the solution by listening, sharing, and reviewing. Season 3 dives deep into trending methods. Are they right for you and your dog? Season 2 shares the learning journey of my clients with dogs with different issues and backgrounds; always interesting and a great way to feel a connections with others who have similar experiences. Season 1 starts by sharing my unique learning journey and then dives into why positive reinforcement training (and practices under that "umbrellas") are often limiting, ineffective and/or counter-productive with dogs over 6 months. It finishes with an introduction into cognitive behavioural therapy and UPWARD Dogology. Thanks to Danielle Bourjeaurd for the great music clips! She is a 2017 CCMA (Canadian Country Music Awards) winner (Discovery Artist) and is making a splash in the country music fanclub. She lived in Nashville for 8 years where she volunteered for Pitties-in-Pink and is a huge dog lover! Michael Baines, founder of The Man That Rescues Dogs Foundation, knows how to run a dog rescue and devotes his life to it. Located in Thailand, TMTRD Foundation has made a huge impact on the local community because of Michael's straight-forward, honest and charismatic approach. This interview is full of surprises - especially the answer to the infamous Tail-End question!https://www.facebook.com/tmtrdorg/https://www.instagram.com/themanthatrescuesdogs/paypal.me/tmtrdThis engaging interview is followed by the always controversial topic of treats and praise. I share what I learned from working with rescued dogs; as much as we want to praise and treat them into doing the "right" behaviour, or "force an issue" by enforcing rules, or rushing to the end goal, we need to work with these dogs in a way that makes sense to them - remember, they are alive because they know how to process and think with the cognitive side of their brain. Michael Schneider, founder of Pilots to the Rescue, combines his love for flying with his passion for helping animals of all kinds (including us two-leggers). Our chat with Michael takes us into the world of flying dogs out of their shitty situations to their rescuers who then find their furever homes. The rewards far outweigh the challenges - find out why!The SnipPet piece talks about why the dog world struggles to meet the needs of dogs over 6 months of age, from a behavioural rehabilitation stand-point. This episode fueled by the violet vanilla and maple leaf cookie lattes from Classic Bean at Fairlawn Plaza ("It tastes like purple!"). Gremi interviews Nathan Dahlgren, part-time Animal Care Technician at HHHS. This is his second job, and he does it because he LOVES dogs and wants to make their lives better! (When we say we have the most amazing team of people who are passionate about helping animals, we mean it.) Nathan gives us insight into his day-to-day job, the two amazing "pibbles" he's adopted from HHHS, funny experiences with our canine residents, and what he's learned about dogs since beginning his work here. Nathan posts an adoptable dog-of-the-week including videos and pictures on his personal Facebook - keep an eye out for these as we share them on our Helping Hands Humane Society Facebook page! We're happy to report his latest feature dog, Hoyt, has been adopted! https://www.facebook.com/hhhstopeka/posts/10157094499236058 Grace and Emi give you updates on their office felines (congrats to Andi on being adopted, and everyone send love to poor Kent who is now known as "the smelly one"). We also reminisce about a funny photo shoot we once held during a fundraiser - special shoutout to Shae and Kristen for taking our kitten stroller golf course photos! And finally, too much bonus singing at the end of this episode...redeemed by the delightful behind-the-scenes meows of sanctuary cat Paulie (doesn't he have the cutest voice?). Want to help the dogs Nathan walks every day? Looking for a way to support the special needs kitties chillin' in our offices? Consider making a donation! No amount of money may be able to get rid of Kent's endearing odor, but it can pay for his vaccinations, the cleaning supplies needed to keep his environment comfortable and healthy, and the bills to keep our facility temperature-controlled and air-filtered for the hundreds of animals in our care! http://www.hhhstopeka.org/donate/donate-online/
Tamara, of Thai Street Paws Rescue, is bloody determined to change the lives of dogs in remote Thailand. Want to help animals, but feel you lack the skills, time, resources or do not have the lifestyle that allows you to help?
