Power Rangers Lost Galaxy: "The Rescue Mission" Doug Fink goes galactic for this dark and un-Power Rangers-y space alien horror -- a direct homage to both Alien and Aliens helmed by Steve Wang, a creature-maker who's worked on Predator, Godzilla '98, Gremlins 2, and directed the Guyver films. On today's episode of One Cross Radio, we're sharing an episode we got to be a guest on over on the Monster Island Film Vault earlier this year! To cover all bases and links, I'ma hit you with the summary from the original episode! Hope you enjoy, and God bless my friends! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, Kaiju Lovers! “Ameri-kaiju” continues with a bit of an unusual entry; one that, serendipitously, Nate also covered around the same time on his other podcast, The Power Trip: the controversial Power Rangers (2017). While Nate has grown to appreciate this film quite a bit, he intentionally brought on Chris Cooke (co-host of One Cross Radio, Radio Arcade, and Powerbombs and Piledrivers) to discuss it because he does not. However, these two find more common ground than you'd think. That was surprisingly true in today's Toku Topic, which is a discussion of representation in media. This serves as a great companion to the Power Trip episode. Before today's broadcast, Nate entered his office to find sitting in his chair none other than Mr. Gold. After a thinly veiled threat of “termination,” Nate divulges a secret about Jimmy to him. Afterward, the infamous “Not-Goldar” attacks Monster Island out of nowhere—but help arrives in the form of a newly powered-up Karone! But even Nate, Chris, and Jimmy get in on the monster-fighting action thanks to Mechani-Kong Mk. 2. The prologue and epilogue, “With Friends Like You,” was written by Nathan Marchand with Michael Hamilton. Guest Cast Michael Hamilton as Mr. Gold Celeste Mora as Karone Additional music: “Evil Rising” by David Fesliyan “Pacific Rim,” “Power Rangers Lost Galaxy,” and “Go, Go, Power Rangers” by Niall Stenson “Chant My Name!” by Masaaki Endo Sound effects sourced from Freesound.org, including those by InspectorJ. The Power Trip: A Journey Through the Power Rangers Franchise
Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy marks a crossroads for the franchise—and for Michael! This was the season where Saban Entertainment fully embraced the Super Sentai model with new characters and a new team every year. Even so, this is sometimes grandfathered into the Zordon Era because it does carry over a few things from the previous season, like Alpha-5 and the Astro Mega Ship. But this is also where Michael's nostalgia for Power Rangers ends (so hopefully he gets more objective after this). Meanwhile, Nathan gets to gush over his girl Karone (Melody Perkins) again, and now she's a Ranger…it's just sad it came after the one of the most shocking moments in Ranger history: the death of a Ranger. But before that, we get one of the most perfect episodes of Power Rangers ever with the In Space/Lost Galaxy team-up. On this weeks episode of #WeNeedToTalk, Malynda chats with Actress and Author Cerina Vincent. They chat about what sparked her to write her new childrens book about race, skin color and diversity, how it's important to start these conversations with children early, and what she is still learning about herself and how she can make a difference! Born and raised in Las Vegas, NV, Cerina spent her formative years growing up in a large, loving Italian family and performing in stage productions, musicals and beauty pageants. After hanging up her crown as Miss Nevada Teen USA 1996, she moved to Hollywood and began working in film and television full time. With her radiant beauty, strong work ethic and ever-so charming personality, she was quick to be noticed by major casting directors. Cerina's first major role was starring in the #1 kid's series in the world during the late 90's – “Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy” as ‘Maya' the Yellow Power Ranger. She quickly went from a TV superhero to a silver screen siren, picking up a Saturn Award Nomination for her performance in the horror sensation “Cabin Fever.” Swiftly becoming a world-renowned on screen ‘scream queen,' she went on to star in the films “Not Another Teen Movie,” “Return to House on Haunted Hill,” “It Waits,” “Monika,” “Tales of Halloween,” a mini-series for AMC's “The Walking Dead,” the short film “Darkened Room” (directed by David Lynch), “Killing Eleanor”, and dozens of other genre fan favorites. Beyond SyFy/Horror, her multi-faceted talent has led to guest roles on dozens of hit comedic shows, such as “Two and a Half Men,” “Mike and Molly,” “Workaholics,” and “Californication.” Everybody Has a Belly Button is a timeless and delightful book for babies and toddlers that teaches our youngest readers about skin color, equality, and equity in the same way we teach our babies where their belly button, nose, eyes, and toes are. Cerina Vincent's effortless rhymes and Zoi Hunter's digital watercolor designs illustrate that “every body” is the same. And the subtle differences in our bodies' colors (eyes, hair, skin) is what makes us all beautiful and special, “like a rainbow.”
Today on Too Opinionated, we talk with actress/author Cerina Vincent about her new children's book Everybody has a Bellybutton! PUBLICATION DATE: March 11th , 2022 Cerina's first major role was starring in the #1 kid's series in the world during the late 90's – “Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy” as ‘Maya' the Yellow Power Ranger. Beyond SyFy/Horror, her multi-faceted talent has led to guest roles on dozens of hit comedic shows, such as “Two and a Half Men,” “Mike and Molly,” “Workaholics,” and “Californication.” Aside from her well-accomplished acting career, Cerina has also had much success as a writer. She paired up with author Jodi Collins to co-write the 2007 female-empowerment best-selling book series published by HarperCollins, “How to Eat Like a Hot Chick” (2007), “How to Love Like a Hot Chick” (2009), and “Live Like a Hot Chick” (2010). In her free time, the Hollywood-based actress still spends time writing, cooking with family, practicing yoga (which she's done for over 20 years), being a full-time mom to Nico, spreading awareness for Cystic Fibrosis (a cause near and dear to her heart) and spreading her core-message of ‘kindness.' In 2020 she also launched her parenting podcast, “Raising Amazing” with co-host, Pediatrician Dr. Joel Gator Warsh. She's excited to put her passion for equality and raising kind children who are aware of the world around them into her first children's book “Everybody Has A Belly Button”. She uses the rhymes and illustrations (by Black Artist Zoi Hunter) to show children the ways we are all alike, despite what may appear to be our physical differences. Born in Washington D.C. to Chinese immigrant parents, Archie Kao is a Chinese-American actor/director/producer, perhaps best known to American audiences for television series regular roles on Chicago P.D., Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. From his start in starring in the world's #1 kids show as the Lost Galaxy's Blue Power Ranger to later spending 10 seasons with the world's #1 drama franchise CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Kao has had a colorful and storied career. In 2010, Kao was inducted into MOCA's (Museum of Chinese Americans) inaugural class of YPX88- honoring Asian Americans in creative culture, along with actresses Lucy Liu, Michelle Krusiec, and trailblazing playwright David Henry Hwang. In 2012, Kao was honored with CAPE's (Coalition of Asian Pacific's in Entertainment) Leaders and Legends award from Who's Who in Asian American Communities, amongst such distinguished recipients as former US Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta, US Congressman Mike Honda and Indonesian Ambassador Dino Patti Djalal. In 2013, Kao joined the series regular cast of NBC/Universal's hit series Chicago PD, broadening the success of legendary producer Dick Wolf's One Chicago franchise. Being named one of People Magazine's “Hottest Bachelors”, as well as dozens of appearances in US film and television productions led Kao to his first Chinese production: SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN with Li Bing Bing, Gianna Jun, and Hugh Jackman. In 2014, Kao became the first male to appear on the cover of Vogue China. In 2016, Kao spent time in mountainous rural regions of Sichuan China when he volunteered to build educational centers for the impoverished youth of the region with donations from Harper's Bazaar, and is on the advisory board for Homes4theHomeless, a non-profit organization aiming at tackling the homelessness epidemic, as well as supporting underserved youth with vocational training programs. His production entity Summer Grape Productions aims to create content for a transpacific audience, and Kao has produced various productions under this banner- including FAST MONEY, the recipient of numerous festival awards- as well as writing and directing INITIATION- starring Ashley Bell of THE LAST EXORCISM. In 2020, Kao began work on two new projects: Warner Brothers/HBO series FLIGHT ATTENDANT, and iQiyi's BREATH OF DESTINY.

Gorgeous and talented, CERINA VINCENT who stars on the #1 most watched Disney Channel comedy series STUCK IN THE MIDDL, season 3 which premieres on Friday, December 8th! Vincent is also the co-author of the best selling series of books, How To Eat Like A Hot Chick, How To Love Like A Hot Chick and Live Like A Hot Chick, published by Harper Collins.
Power Rangers Lost Galaxy is the start of where the series was forming its own mythology in that every season from this point on was being its own thing separate from the previous Zordon era of shows. Much like In Space, the show took the material seriously but still left room to embrace its cheesy nature which was perfect. All around a solid season and worth a watch.
