Starbucks Coffee Co announced on Tuesday that it has sold a majority stake in its China business to Boyu Capital, a leading Chinese investment firm, forming a joint venture that will operate Starbucks' retail operations in the country. [Spoiler Alert] Grace takes a moment to reflect on the tragedy that took place in Itaewon leaving 153 people dead and many others wounded. Her thoughts are with them. Grace discusses the show My Roommate is a Gumiho (2021, tvN and iQIYI) starring Jang Ki-yong and Hyeri, and iQIYI's production on a K-drama since THAAD. She analyzes Shin Woo-yeo's characteristics as metaphors for male struggles with restraint and just how much the show rips off of Goblin, just like all the other fantasy K-dramas that have been coming out the last few years. Grace also mourns the overuse of Hyeri's iconic scream on the show. Grace's guest is Cat Min (@thecatpark on Instagram)—a children's book author of Shy Willow and her highly anticipated new book The Little Toymaker which hits shelves on November 1, 2022. Cat's third book entitled The Shadow and the Ghost is already slated for spring 2024 release. The two discuss reframing fear as adrenaline and excited anticipation for what's to come including uncertainty, how a single word cannot possibly reduce a person down to its meaning because of the wholeness and complexity of an individual, the clearer pathway that comes with a second book, the power of images, the importance of diversity in children's books, becoming more boldly oneself, therapeutic catharsis that comes with one's own creative choices, and unconscious creative guidance of the divine. Et pour autant TikTok n'est pas accessible en Chine !Non. Au lieu de cela, une recherche dans l'App Store chinois fait apparaître "Douyin" (抖音). Douyin c'est une application similaire pratiquement inconnue en Occident.Inconnue ici et pourtant avec plus de 600 millions d'utilisateurs en Chine, Douyin figure dans le TOP 3 des plateformes social media les plus utilisée en chine.Quelques chiffres sur Douyinl'appli devrait passer les 690 millions d'utilisateurs actifs en 2022 en chine soit + 50 millions. A noter que TikTok monde c'est un peu plus de 1 milliards200 millions de contenus produits par mois9 millions de sessions livestream Douyin est l'application Chinoise avec le temps d'utilisation mensuel moyen le plus elevé avec en moyenne 30h / mois là où la moyenne de TikTok dans le monde est d'environ 27h (47 pour les plus jeunes)Plus de 89 % des utilisateurs de Douyin ont moins de 40 ans et plus de 49 % ont moins de 30 ans.sur les 4 premiers mois de l'année 2022 les chiffres du e-commerce ont triple sur Douyin > 10 milliards de produits vendus en 4 mois !!Douyin et TikTok 2 soeurs jumelles séparées à la naissanceSur Douyin on retrouve ce que l'on connait de TikTok : la forYoupage, les vidéos 9:16ème, l'algorithme de recommandation…En fait, de prime abord Douyin semble presque identique à TikTok.Les 2 app ont d'ailleurs le même logo.Pourtant, Douyin et TikTok fonctionnent parallèlement l'un à l'autre. Ce qui se passe sur Douyin exclut tout le contenu en provenance d'Amérique, d'Europe ou ailleurs en dehors de la Chine. De même, lorsque nous regardons du contenu sur TikTok, nous ne pouvons pas voir les vidéos se dérouler sur Douyin.A l'heure de la mondialisation généralisée, ça semble fou.—Pourquoi Bytedance la société mère continue-t-elle d'entretenir 2 plateformes. Et bien paradoxalement par praticité : La censure du contenu exigée par la Chine ne lui aurait pas permis de se développer en dehors du Pays, et de même si Douyin autorisait les vidéos du monde entier, elle serait rapidement bloquée en Chine. Donc du coup, 2 plateformes pour 2 zones géographiques.—Douyin c'est aujourd'hui bien plus que la version chinoise de TikTokEn octobre 2020, le South China Morning Post rapportait que les Chinois passaient plus de temps sur Douyin (72,9 minutes) que sur la super application WeChat de Tencent (60,6 minutes).Douyin est super addictif parce que Douyin c'est une application fleuve qui englobe plusieurs univers : les vidéo courtes (ça on connait) mais aussi le commerce électronique, les jeux et la diffusion en direct. C'est une plateforme complète dédiée à l'entertainment.—TikTok est tourné vers les communautés alors que Douyin veut devenir le Netflix ChinoisDouyin est une plateforme Media.La notion de centre d'intérêt est bien là, mais la plateforme semble moins disposée à laisser de la place aux créateurs émergeants.A la différence de TikTok, l'algorithme de recommandation offre une portée plus importante aux comptes puissants. Plus le nombre de fans et de likes du compte est élevé et plus le moteur de recherche met en avant le compte.C'est du media. Et à ce titre on veut des blockbusters pas des petits comptes indépendants.—Douyin, vient d'ailleurs de faire l'acquisition de droits sur des films et des émissions de télévision grâce à un partenariat avec iQiyi.Iqiyi c'est le Netflix chinois.L'accord donne à Douyin, le droit de modifier le contenu long d'iQiyi en courts clips vidéo de max 15 minutes.——Douyin nous donne une bonne idée des ambitions de Tiktok sur le moteur de rechercheDouyin est aussi devenu un moteur de recherche puissant.Lors d'un discours à Fortune Brainstorm Tech 2022 en juillet, le vice-président principal de Google a clairement indiqué que l'entreprise avait un œil sur TikTok et Douyin :« Dans nos études, quelque chose comme près de 40 % des jeunes, lorsqu'ils cherchent un endroit pour déjeuner, ils n'utilisent pas Google Maps ou la recherche. DouYin au premier trimestre 2022, et devenu un moteur de recherche avec près de 600 millions d'utilisateurs actifs. »—Des fonctions de recherche avancée utilisent la géolocalisation—La recherche in vidéos une nouvelle technologie qu'on devrait voir débouler sur TiktokDouyin permet de sélectionner le visage ou les vêtements d'une personne apparaissant dans une vidéo pour rechercher d'autres vidéos contenant la même personne ou les mêmes vêtements.Douyin est à la point de la recherche visuelle.——Douyin est en avance sur le sujet du live et du social commerceLes vidéos en direct sont devenues extrêmement populaires pour le marché du commerce chinois. Le social commerce y est nettement plus développé et DOuyin se positionne parmi le plateformes leaders.Dans leurs directs sur Douyin, les marques et influenceurs peuvent vendre leur produits directement sans sortir de l'application.Sur Douyin, vous pouvez réserver un séjour dans un hôtel après avoir visionné une vidéo qui y a été tournée. Vous pouvez faire des visites virtuelles des boutiques et des restaurants d'une ville, et même obtenir des coupons pour ces établissements.Certains KOL sur Douyin ont même un onglet sur leur compte pour mettre en avant des "Produits suggérés ». Ceux ci sont ensuite achetable directement dans la boutique de la marque -au coeur de l'application.—A noter que TikTok a récemment décidé de faire marche arrière sur ses fonctions de social commerce. Jusqu'à nouvel ordre la société à décidé de stopper le développement de ses fonctions. Les premiers testes réalisés en Angleterre et aux US n'étaient pas concluants.—Des fonction de reconnaissance faciale à la Black MirrorLe gouvernement chinois a imposé de nouvelles restrictions limitant les enfants à une heure de temps de jeu en ligne entre 20h et 21h les vendredi, samedi et dimancheLe gouvernement espère empêcher sa jeunesse de consacrer trop de temps à des divertissements que le gouvernement communiste juge malsains. En vertu de la nouvelle réglementation, la responsabilité de veiller à ce que les enfants ne jouent que trois heures par jour incombe en grande partie aux plateformes dont fait partie Douyin.A ce titre la reconnaissance faciale est un outil leur permettant de détecter un usage trop intensif d'écran et de jeu sur un jeune public. Douyin effectue des vérifications sporadiques de reconnaissance faciale pendant que les gens jouent, et les explosent si ils détectent un usage abusif. Dingue !—Des informations faisant état d'étrangers bloqués de la diffusion en direct ont commencé à faire surface en février 2017Un témoignage hallucinant :Un ressortissant étranger en Chine s'est soudainement retrouvé expulsé de Douyin, après être apparu pendant seulement une minute à l'écran. Pourquoi ?Les étrangers doivent demander l'autorisation à l'avance pour participer aux émissions en direct.
