800+ global artisans. 2 million raised for charitable organizations. A $200 dollar investment that started it all. Griffin Thall has always been an entrepreneur.  As a teenager, he was selling a steady stream of products on eBay, earning enough cash to fund his college ventures. Now, 12 years after he co-founded and served as CEO for Pura Vida Bracelets, a company he helped grow from his dorm room into a $130 million+ company, Griffin announced he is stepping away.  In his conversation with host Ryan Berman, we'll hear some of the strategies that Griffin used to grow his tremendous brand, and why he feels there is still room for them to grow on platforms like TikTok. He also touches on why they felt Vera Bradley was the right partner to acquire the brand after interviewing 25 potential suitors. Note: This interview was conducted a week prior to Griffins departure announcement.

In today's episode, my guest is Andrew Chan the Co-Founder & CMO of AfterShip. AfterShip is a post-purchase tracking and notification platform for Shopify ecommerce businesses ranging in size from SMB to mid-market to large enterprises. While most ecommerce solutions focus on customer touchpoints up to the moment they click “Purchase,” AfterShip prides itself on strengthening brands' post-purchase experience including improving the returns process, providing more accurate order arrival data, and streamlining updates to customers after purchase. More and more brands are starting to realize that the post-purchase experience is part of the brand experience and is a major driver of repeat business. Because repeat customers are the lifeblood of businesses they cost less to acquire than new customers, spend more than new customers, and can act as brand ambassadors. It is becoming more and more important that retailers provide top-notch post-purchase experiences. No other ecommerce business offers the same robust ecosystem of post-purchase products as AfterShip and leading merchants on the Shopify ecommerce platform, top marketplaces (Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Groupon, Rakuten, and Wish), and major retail brands like Good American, Harry's, Gymshark, Blenders Eyewear, Pura Vida Bracelets, and Kylie Skin all turn to AfterShip for their post-purchase needs. As people increasingly engage in online shopping, it is now more important than ever for online retailers to have a strong post-purchase strategy. Once I learned that 60% of all products put on our skin and scalp actually absorb into our bloodstream, I was very concerned about cumulative toxicity in the body. I’ve tried to be very careful about what I eat as being as natural and organic as possible. And now I am on a quest to go completely all natural and/or organic with my own beauty routine. Austin Brawner is a legend in the eCommerce space, namely because his podcast - Ecommerce Influence - is one of the most popular in the industry.  Austin has worked with, and is friends with, many of the top DTC brands in eCommerce - MVTM Watches, Pura Vida Bracelets, Blenders Eyewear, Four Sigmatic and many others.  In fact, we reminisce on the podcast about a dinner we both attended in San Diego with the founders of those companies all together in a room hanging out and swapping stories. What separates eCommerce brands that scale vs. those that stall and plateau? What separates the Bonobos and Away Luggage companies of the world from an eCommerce company that hits a ceiling at 5 or 10 million per year in sales?  Austin has a unique perspective on this topic, having walked alongside dozens of the biggest eCommerce brands of our generation. In this episode Austin and I break down the following: What you need to know about AOV and LTV and how it directly impacts your ability to scale. How product market fit impacts scale potential - and why combining a hungry market with a product people want to identify with is so important.   Demand Generation vs. Demand Capture…which is better and which lends itself to scale. The road map to building a team and scaling your business Why a CEO's role is mainly about people and product and what that means. How and when to hire an agency. Why it's hard to scale single SKU businesses and why line extension is imperative.

John Gornik and Gregorio Elias are two friends who's desire to help others sparked a business that follows an honorable business model. They are a creative pair who met after college and combined their unique talents to form Bead Relief. They apply a team spirit combined with relentless energy to make an impact on children's lives through the sales of their unique bracelets. They have a strong desire to make the world a better place and plan on doing this with their colorful handmade beaded bracelets. Their goal is to make giving affordable and enjoyable; the prices of their bracelets make it possible for anyone to help. To learn more about Bead Relief, visit: http://beadrelief.com/ During a visit to a small community in Costa Rica, Paul Goodman and Griffin Thall crossed paths with two men named Jorge and Joaquin who were peddling bracelets on the street. The colorful bracelets were handmade in a simple way that seemed to capture the essence of their journey. When they first met Jorge and Joaquin, they were living in a single room with three beds shared by several other members of their family. Seeing this, Paul and Griffin asked them if they would be willing to make 400 bracelets to take back to the United States with them. Jorge was delighted to make such a sell, and the guys were thrilled to help them out, but to everyone's good fortune, soon after returning to the states their friendship blossomed into a full-fledged business relationship. They share their story with us. To learn more about Pura Vida, visit: www.puravidabracelets.com
