When your values aren't clear, it's easy to chase the wrong deals, hire the wrong people, and build a life and business that drains you.Today, I sit down with Robert Glazer—entrepreneur, bestselling author, and founder of Acceleration Partners—to explore how defining your personal core values can transform the way you lead, invest, and live.Robert built a $35M global company serving brands like Airbnb, Uber, and Adidas, but his greatest success came from understanding what he valued most, and aligning every decision around it.In his new book, The Compass Within, Robert reveals how your personal core values act as a decision-making compass for both business and life. We unpack how to use that same framework to hire the right people, choose the right investors, and build a life of freedom that truly aligns with who you are.In this episode, you'll learn: 1.) Why really company culture starts with core values — and how defining what you stand for (and what you don't) helps you attract the right people and repel the wrong ones.2.) What Robert learned from his own private-equity exit—how he structured the deal, picked the right partner, and avoided the mistakes most founders make.3.) How your personal values can help you invest smarter—filtering founders, partners, and deals that align with your principles, not just your profit goals.Show Notes: LifestyleInvestor.com/260Tax Strategy MasterclassIf you're interested in learning more about Tax Strategy and how YOU can apply 28 of the best, most effective strategies right away, check out our BRAND NEW Tax Strategy Masterclass: www.lifestyleinvestor.com/taxStrategy Session For a limited time, my team is hosting free, personalized consultation calls to learn more about your goals and determine which of our courses or masterminds will get you to the next level. Welcome to the What's Next! Podcast with Tiffani Bova.    This week, I'm joined by Robert Glazer. Robert is a #1 Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and international bestselling author, TEDx speaker, and the founder of Acceleration Partners, a $50M global partner marketing agency known for its award-winning culture. He is also the creator of Friday Forward, a weekly inspirational newsletter read by over 200,000 professionals in 60+ countries. And he has a new book out called The Compass Within.   THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR…leaders, founders, and professionals who want to align their decisions with their core values and lead with greater clarity and authenticity.   TODAY'S MAIN MESSAGE…in fast-moving and uncertain times, it's easy to get pulled in different directions. Robert Glazer believes the antidote is grounding yourself in your values. Your "compass within" not only guides your personal and professional choices but also determines how you lead, build trust, and shape culture. By knowing what truly drives you, you'll make better decisions, connect more deeply with others, and avoid environments that drain your energy.   KEY TAKEAWAYS… Your values act as a blueprint for better decisions at work and in life. Leaders unconsciously lead from their values—knowing them makes you more effective. High-performing teams thrive when individuals share and honor their core values. Self-awareness is the foundation for authentic leadership and sustainable growth.   WHAT I LOVE MOST…Robert's reminder that many of us only realize our values when they're crossed—what he calls the “electric fence test.” By identifying them earlier, we can make intentional choices that help us thrive instead of simply reacting when something feels wrong.   Running Time: 24:25   Subscribe on iTunes     Find Tiffani Online: LinkedIn Facebook X    Find Robert Online: LinkedIn Website   Robert's Book: The Compass Within: A Little Story About the Values That Guide Us   The Six Core Values Questions

Welcome to episode #1004 of Thinking With Mitch Joel (formerly Six Pixels of Separation). What does it really mean to lead with values when so much of modern business seems built on quarterly results and surface-level culture? Robert Glazer has spent his career proving that sustainable performance isn't just about financial results. It's about the alignment between who you are and what you stand for. As founder and chairman of Acceleration Partners (a marketing agency), Bob built a company repeatedly recognized as one of the best places to work. Beyond the accolades, he is an author of seven books, including Elevate, Elevate Your Team and his latest, The Compass Within: A Little Story About the Values That Guide Us. In this conversation, Bob explores the central role that core values play in authentic leadership, how formative experiences shape decision-making and why self-awareness is the foundation of both personal and organizational growth. He explains how parables and storytelling can make complex business ideas more memorable, why mentorship still matters in a polarized and tech-driven world and how the rise of AI is intersecting with deeply human questions about meaning, integrity and belief. Bob reminds us that values are not slogans for walls or websites but active forces that define culture, guide behavior and ultimately determine whether leaders and organizations thrive or falter. In an era where data can overwhelm judgment and polarization can fracture trust, his work pushes us to examine whether our actions reflect the values we claim to hold, and how to close that gap. Too many companies treat their core values like wall art – nice to look at, easy to ignore. In this episode, Brad sits down with Robert Glazer to explore how to make core values real in the day-to-day, not just on paper. Robert is the founder of Acceleration Partners, a global affiliate marketing agency he scaled to multi-eight figures with a fully remote team of 300+ people across 40 countries. He brought on a private equity firm, took some money off the table, and now serves as chairman of the board. He's also a bestselling author and a recognized expert in values-based leadership and company culture. (Spoiler: he let the client go.) He also breaks down his Open Transition Program, an alternative to the two-week notice that prioritizes transparency and dignity on the way out, not just on the way in. From there, the conversation moves into the evolution of affiliate marketing, the structure behind high-performing remote teams, and how to grow under private equity without losing what matters. He is also the author of the Friday Forward newsletter, read around the world by 200,000 people. Robert, welcome to the show. Thanks for having me, Steve. Well, let's start with the beginning. How does one, be it five successful companies, writes multiple best-selling books when they still look much too young for my eyes? Do you see that? Maybe not five successful companies, but I had the failures first, so maybe that was a good learning. But yeah, look, I probably unsustainably burned it at all ends for almost a decade. And so I'm doing some revisiting of my own physical capacity and trying to be more sequential in some of my work and not do everything at once. But a lot of it was really tied together, right? I was building, when I was building the business and acceleration partners, because I was a lot of sharing a lot of those stories and doing the writing. And my role in the organization evolved over time to be more of the sort of strategy and the culture. And I had a great kind of partner who took over the operation, the pieces that they often found in different people. So what does it mean, Partnership Marketing Agency? What does partnership marketing look like? Yeah, we're a big fish in a small pond. So we focus on what partner and affiliate marketing, which is a form of digital marketing. And unlike kind of people Google, which is per click or Facebook or things that are impression based. Uh, this is where brands partner with publishers or affiliates who agree to promote their product or services, have everything tracked, and then they only get paid, uh, when it performs, sort of cost per action. So you could imagine, you know, you could be a partner of Amazon or affiliate and, you know, after this podcast and a recap and say, here are Bob's five best books. And if people buy those, you make 5% or 6% on each book. So it's actually a big part of e-commerce. It's probably about 20%. I think it's not as talked about in public because people writing these lists and bestsellers and influencers, and they're not doing all this stuff out of the goodness of their heart, but they may not want to make it super clear that anything you click on and buy from them, they get paid a part of. But this is basically how the content world is marrying up with the commerce world online. A lot of people talk about influencer marketing and how influencers are so critical in promoting products, especially more mature products.  Influencers big. And again, it depends on how you pay, like influencers are also affiliate. Some get paid $10,000 to build content and run a campaign, and some are actually just paid based on what they sell. So it's just sort of the model around that. So it's all about finding the balance of providing the content and the advertising and how do you not burn out your followers, I guess. You have to be authentic. You can, for a while, get away with just promoting things because you get paid for them. But I think the people who are actually most successful at this have huge fallings, a lot of authenticity, a lot of trust with their audience. And what's happening today is that people trust other people about what to buy more than they trust the brand telling them.
