Story time! One of my favourite (and top!) courses was drama, which I took throughout my high school years. Also acted in numerous school plays as well, and when I broke the news to my teachers (and even to my high school principal!) that I was accepted by U of C for Drama major, they all told me, "I knew you'd make it!". My principal even said, "You might be back here in few years TEACHING drama!" I was thinking: "Hey, I may even become a Drama prof at universities!" Anything was possible, as my confidence was in sky high! Well, by the end of my second year at U of C, I had to make some decisions, because I was flunking pretty bad! Anymore bad scores, and I'm OUT! So I had to make decisions fast. After much thinking, since I was already using my drama and theatre experience with my radio show, I've decided to go ahead and change majors. I absolutely have no regret in trying, and to this day, I still incorporate some of the teachings of late Dr. Keith Johnstone, the ONLY prof. that actually gave me decent scores! Calgary was lucky to have such an AMAZING coach! As for me, I still have NO regrets for trying, and you won't always get the result you want, but you just make the best of it, and remember to be HAPPY!Playlist: Deathraiser - One Step to the GraveDeathraiser - Thrash or Be ThrashedDeathrow - Pledge To DieDeath - Left To DieCulled - CoercionDecapitated - Suffer the Children (Napalm Death cover)Napalm Death - Inside the Torn ApartTerrorizer - Fear of NapalmJungle Rot - When the Elders RiseJungle Rot - Savage RiteJungle Rot - Murder OneFleshcrawl - Reign ForeverVader - Rapid Fire (Judas Priest cover)Slayer - Dissident Aggressor (Judas Priest cover)Arch Enemy - Starbreaker (Judas Priest cover)Judas Priest - Raw DealTwisted Sister - Sin After SinDee Snider - For the Love of MetalPrimal Fear - Living For MetalNukem - Into the Kill ZoneNukem - TV Crime (Black Sabbath cover)Black Sabbath - Sins of the FatherDio - Night PeopleDokken - Night By NightKreator - Gangland (Tygers of Pan Tang cover)Tygers of Pan Tang - BlackjackFastway - Easy Livin'Uriah Heep - Easy Livin'Edguy - Out Of ControlBlue Oyster Cult - After DarkBudgie - Breaking All the House RulesPeter Frampton - Breaking All the RulesBilly Squier - You Know What I LikeBilly Squier - In The DarkBilly Squier - The StrokeAC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt CheapAC/DC - Shot Down in FlamesAC/DC - Shoot To ThrillAC/DC - C.O.D.Diesel - Sausolito SummernightDonnie Iris - Ah Leah!REO Speedwagon - Don't Let Him GoREO Speedwagon - Take It On a RunHanabie - Gal This Summer

The year is 1980. The U.S. National Debt is a paltry $900 Billion, the word “yuppie” appears for the first time in print, the Pac-Man videogame is released in arcades everywhere, Mount St. Helens explodes in Washington state, and Cable News Network (also known as CNN) becomes a thing.   In the world of metal, Iron Maiden release their self-titled debut album, Black Sabbath reinvent themselves with new frontman Ronnie James Dio on vocals and release Heaven and Hell, and AC/DC regroup after the tragic loss of Bon Scott and release Back In Black featuring new vocalist Brian Johnson, an album that would go on to sell more than 40 million copies and become one of the biggest selling albums of all time.   Just as time and technology continued marching forward, the hard rock of the 70's continued its evolution into a new direction with a faster, heavier, and more aggressive sound beginning in 1980 that would become even faster, heavier, and more aggressive throughout the 80's.   Get ready for a taste of “Something Haunted” from the “Necronomidonkeykongimicon” and find out why “you gotta watch for the flops” if you want to get in the spirit and enjoy the FIFA World Cup.    Discover which dinosaur is “the biggest dinosaur”, understand the rules and regulations regarding “flip-flops”, find out which type of rooster has the best breasts, and be sure to “have a nice June” when you JOIN US as we dive headlong into the year that gave us the birth of modern metal with THE YEAR OF OUR RIFF LORD – 1980. We're dropping into your feed a day early for this St. Patrick's Day episode, as we look ahead to the August debut of HBO Max's Lanterns and discuss the first appearances of Green Lanterns Alan Scott and Hal Jordan -- followed for no particular reason by a couple of Tales of the Green Lantern Corps written by Alan Moore! First, in "The Green Lantern!" from 1940's All-American Comics #16, construction engineer Alan Scott meets a talking lantern that used to be … a meteor in ancient China? It's a whole thing. Then, in "S.O.S. Green Lantern!" and "Secret of the Flaming Spear!" from 1959's Showcase #22, test pilot Hal Jordan is selected to succeed dying space cop Abin Sur and become an intergalactic lawman! Last but not least, Green Lantern Tomar Re explains to his colleague Arisia just why "Mogo Doesn't Socialize" in 1985's Green Lantern #188! And we get a glimpse into Abin Sur's final moments in "Tygers" from 1986's Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual #2! Will Alan Scott and Hal Jordan prevail in their strikingly similar first adventures? Will Bolphunga the Unrelenting ever find the mysterious Mogo? Why does Abin Sur need a spaceship when his ring has the power of flight? And can these stirring tales of heroic space patrolmen survive the Blackest Night and break on through to that Brightest Day known as … The Comics Canon? In This Episode: ·       What can we call this radiation-sending device? ·       Green Lantern's archnemesis – The Yellow Lamp! ·       Plop! ·       Curt punches up the Green Lantern oath ·       Revenge of the Green Lanterns ·       Roy Thomas's interview with Golden Age Green Lantern creator Mart Nodell in Alter Ego Join us in two weeks as we discuss the 1982 inter-company crossover The Uncanny X-Men and the New Teen Titans! This week on Derry Public Radio, join CM, Josh, and Eve as they dive into the eerie world of childhood fears with Stephen King's short story "Here There Be Tygers" from the collection “Skeleton Crew”. The trio explores the anxieties of young Charles, a boy grappling with his overwhelming fear of using the school bathroom, and the unexpected encounter that brings his worst nightmares to life. With their signature humor and insightful commentary, the hosts dissect the themes of authority, vulnerability, and the ambiguity of childhood reality. They share personal anecdotes and reflect on their own childhood fears, drawing parallels between Charles's experience and their own. As the discussion unfolds, they ponder whether the tiger is real or merely a manifestation of anxiety, leaving listeners to contemplate the nature of fear itself. # 15 Heavy metal i 80'erne: 1981 – Bølgen skyller videre

- Jungersen og Stützer jubler over Ozzys andet soloalbum Diary of a Madman og Motörheads vaskeægte livealbum No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith. I Helsinki albumdebuterer Motley Crües åndsbrødre i Hanoi Rocks. Sidstnævnte udgiver endda hele to album i 1981.

S8E37 went out live from the TSORR Studio on Myoli Beach on 11 September 2025 at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio.  This was a deeply emotional rollercoaster. The show is dedicated to several people who died this week through a combination of tragic criminality, psychopathy, madness, intolerance, and corruption. Charlie Kirk was assassinated for free speech and debating people, Bouwer Van Niekerk, for being a liquidations attorney who got too close to a corrupt crime mafia linked to people in the South African government, and Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee, was stabbed to death by a racist psychopath on a train in North Carolina.  Paris is on fire with migrants and police in running battles.  In Britain, people who are abused by their own government and jailed for Facebook posts and hurty words, while the same government allows children to be raped by grooming gangs, are preparing for the United Kingdom Free Speech Festival on Saturday, 13th September in London.  And if that wasn't enough, it was the anniversary of 9/11. It's been 24 years since that awful tragedy, and right now it just feels like the whole world is going up in flames. The Running Order of Artists Featured:  The Pretty Reckless, Accept, Texas Hippie Coalition, ACDC, Judas Priest, Alter Bridge, Five Finger Death Punch, Adrenaline Mob, Rainbow, SStorace, Sham69, Stiff Little Fingers, Disturbed, Helloween, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Aerosmith, Megadeth, Kid Rock, Mötley Crüe, Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd, The Clash, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Sixx AM, Tygers of Pan Tang, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Dream Theater, Dave Hause. The Story of Rock and Roll. John Sykes Tribute John Sykes' passing hits hard, partly because he was the same age as me. You don't expect to be making tribute videos for someone from your own generation—a peer who, for many of us, epitomised the 1980s rock dream. But more than that, John Sykes was a driven perfectionist with a distinct vision for his music. He left an indelible mark on the bands he joined, whether it was Tygers of Pan Tang, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, or Blue Murder. To his family—especially his sons—know that John Sykes was truly one of the greats. His riffs, solos, and larger-than-life stage presence continue to inspire guitarists all over the world. Though his time here ended too soon, the music he created remains timeless. Phil Aston | Now Spinning Magazine

Jack Meille in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.tygersofpantang.com/ The Tygers of Pan Tang were formed by guitarist Robb Weir (born Robert Mortimer Weir, 1958), Richard "Rocky" Laws (bass), Jess Cox (vocals) and Brian Dick (drums). They played in working men's clubs and were first signed by local independent label Neat Records before MCA gave them a major record deal. After several singles, they released their first album, Wild Cat, in 1980. 'Bloodlines' was released in 2023 featuring their two new members, followed by 'Live Blood' in 2024 showcasing songs from across the bands career. Recent gigs have shown a significant upturn in attendances and the Tygers will return to their original stomping ground, Whitley Bay, in November 2024 for a show at the prestigous Whitley Bay Playhouse.
