Lee Harvey Oswald's trip to Mexico is one of the most mysterious aspects of the JFK assassination case, and some say it holds the key to understanding what really happened and who was actually involved. Today's episode Part 10 is the tenth episode in this miniseries and and concludes what else may have happened that weekend with Oswald and then chronicles the remaining phone calls that happened on October 1st and October 3rd...which were detected by the CIA's surveillance system and which notify the Mexico City CIA Station that its a man named Oswald who is seeking a visa to Cuba and to Russia. And a man who had spoken to Russian KGB agent Kostikov who was working at the consulate. Valery Kostikov was the famed KGB agent who was also a member of the 13th Department, a KGB division responsible for sabotage and assassinations. In Part 10, we pick the action back up on Saturday after Oswald completed his visit to the Russian Embassy, made in one last ditch effort to secure a Russian visa. Oswald befriends a group of students at the nearby University in an attempt to influence the Cuban consulate and gain his Cuban visa. When that doesn't end well, in despair, he buys a ticket home to Dallas. There were a few other activities that weekend that Oswald purportedly engaged in including some more mundane touristy things like attending a bull fight and some meatier allegations such as the one that he engaged with a group of Cubans and that he also met with Carlos Lechuga. All rumors that have never been verified beyond their original story tell. While the Mexico City Visit is ending for Oswald, the activities of the CIA and its Mexico City Station are just beginning. So stick around and join us in our next episode 248 as we explore what the CIA did next. The evidence in this part of the case is confounding and it may be one of the toughest assignments yet for all of us, including you, the jury, to sort through it all. Come join us as we review one of the most fascinating story tells regarding the JFK assassination, and as we borrow heavily from so many great researchers including the work of Jefferson Morley who wrote Our Man In Mexico and John Armstrong who wrote Harvey and Lee, two of the most detailed and spellbinding books every written on the JFK assassination. Investigations by others, including John Newman and Peter Dale Scott, and the HSCA's Lopez Report contribute to the richness of our story tell about what happened...really...in Mexico City....Even as early as 1964, rumors and serious concerns over the lone gunman theory and the evidence that might contravene it, were becoming a major concern for the government and the commission. Conspiracy theories were contrary to the government's stated narrative from the very beginning. This real-life story is more fascinating than fiction. No matter whether you are a serious researcher or a casual student, you will enjoy the fact filled narrative and story as we relive one of the most shocking moments in American History. An event that changed the nation and changed the world forever.
The Secret Police and the Soviet System: New Archival Investigations (U Pittsburgh Press, 2023) compiles an array of recent scholarship that draws on newly available archival evidence. This interview with the book's editor, Dr. Michael David-Fox, summarizes what these new findings add up to, and highlights specific arguments made by the collection's authors. While Russian archives are presently difficult to access, Ukrainian archives have proved to contain a trove of information about the Soviet-era secret police. The authors in this collection have broken much new interpretive ground, and the essays are universally engaging and provocative. About the book: Even more than thirty years after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the role of the secret police in shaping culture and society in communist USSR has been difficult to study, and defies our complete understanding. In the last decade, the opening of non-Russian KGB archives, notably in Ukraine after 2015, has allowed scholars to explore state security organizations in ways not previously possible. Moving beyond well-known cases of high-profile espionage and repression, this study is the first to showcase research from a wide range of secret police archives in former Soviet republics and the countries of the former Soviet bloc—some of which are rapidly closing or becoming inaccessible once again. Rather than focusing on Soviet leadership, The Secret Police and the Soviet System integrates the secret police into studies of information, technology, economics, art, and ideology. The result is a state-of-the-art portrait of one of the world's most notorious institutions, the legacies of which are directly relevant for understanding Vladimir Putin's Russia today. Aaron Weinacht is Professor of History at the University of Montana Western, in Dillon, MT. He teaches courses on Russian and Soviet History, World History, and Philosophy of History. His research interests include the sociological theorist Philip Rieff and the influence of Russian nihilism on American libertarianism. Learn more about your ad choices. WHEN THE HOST WAS A NOVELIST: 3/10: "Hollywood Before the Mast," a story from the collection, "Gordon Liddy is My Muse," by John Calvin Batchelor. January 1, 1990. Read by the host. https://www.amazon.com/Gordon-Liddy-Muse-Calvin-Batchelor/dp/0671690787 From Publishers Weekly Posing as hack writer Tommy "Tip" Paine, Batchelor ( The Birth of the People's Republic of Antarctica ) offers a comic and often provocative look at contemporary America in this episodic "autobiographical" novel. In eight chapters, each self-contained, Tip roams from Moscow to Hollywood to New England to his ultimate destination, G. Gordon Liddy's Firearms Security Academy in Arizona. While in Russia, he watches a boyhood friend progress, over the years, from awed admirer of American western movies to KGB superstar to an official non-person, "disappeared" as part of that nation's changing politics. In Hollywood, despite the warnings of his decidedly offbeat agent, Tip falls into the clutches of a woman who is not what she seems. In New England, together with his "imaginary best friend, McKerr," Tip solves a multiple murder and uncovers what is possibly a relic of American history. Finally, in the Arizona desert, he posits an arguable identity for the still-elusive"Deep Throat" of the Watergate scandal. Other tales in this totally engaging work recount run-ins with famous literary personages, wealthy Texans and restless Vietnam veterans, or suggest a dark and ancient secret hidden in the heart of Germany. This may be Batchelor's breakthrough novel to the wide audience he deserves. Copyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc. From Library Journal The narrator of this inventive picaresque novel is Tip Paine, formerly a spook for the National Security Agency and now a moderately successful sci-fi/spy writer. In eight exuberant episodes Tip ranges from Moscow to Hollywood. He provides mystery (a tale of murder and mayhem in a small New England town), commentary on international politics (an elegiac account of a Russian KGB agent who falls victim to glasnost), and wickedly funny satire of pomp and foolishness in Texas high society, a university writing workshop, and a desert training academy for mercenaries. By alluding frequently to the classics of American literature (e.g., Moby Dick, The Last of the Mohicans ), Batchelor creates illuminating but highly entertaining commentary on contemporary society. - Albert E. - Albert E. WHEN THE HOST WAS A NOVELIST: 4/10: "Hollywood Before the Mast," a story from the collection, "Gordon Liddy is My Muse," by John Calvin Batchelor. Steve Gruber interviews Alan Dershowitz
We've got three bizarre unsolved mysteries for you today including the death of British intelligence agent, Gareth Williams, who was found dead in a padlocked duffel bag with almost zero evidence left behind. Theories ranged from a BDSM game gone bad to Gareth being taken out by his own agency because he knew too much to the Russian KGB snuffing him out because he wouldn't turn double agent for them. In the end, Gareth's death remained unsolved and will likely remain that way unless all information is declassified and provided to authorities. Also in this episode, a two-year-old girl goes missing in France only to be possibly discovered and reunited with her parents a short time later. Then a body was found matching the description of the little girl who went missing. So who was who and who did the severed adult-male head found nearby the body of the little girl belong to? This strange tale has remained a mystery since 1922 and will likely never be sorted out properly. Lastly, do you believe in reincarnation? The sudden, tragic death of two sisters led their family and others to believe in reincarnation when their mother gave birth to identical twins just a year later who not only displayed some eerily similar birthmarks to those of their deceased sisters but also seemed to have knowledge and memories that only their sisters would have. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/middleagedandmediocre/message

How did you go down the rabbit hole to discover the creation of the central banking system to author the story? 11:20 - The engine of inflation is the Federal Reserve system. 18:30 - Get into the content of The Creature from Jekyll Island. How would you summarize and persuade them that The Federal Reserve is simply a government agency? 25:10 - 26:33 - The Federal Reserve is a means by which the banking industry formed a cartel so they could dominate the market of money and banking, they would give it to Congress, Congress would pass it as a law and think The Federal Reserve is a government agency. 26:40 - Travis learned the realities of the monetary system in the year 2000. Nation state hackers have been trying to get into the secrets stored on computers for decades. The Russian KGB has been trying, and often succeeding, to hack into computer systems before there was a publicly accessible internet; back when the Arpanet was used primarily to connect university and government computer systems. Do you know who caught the KGB in the act of their hacking activities within these computer systems when no one else, not even the FBI or the military, was interested in finding a hacker that was getting into some of the Arpanet connected computers? Why, an astronomer, of course! Tune in to hear Dr. Clifford Stoll describe in great detail how he caught the KGB hackers, without the use of network security tools (what has been used during the past thirty years didn't exist back then!), using his brilliance and other tools available to him at the time, such as dial-up phone line modems and reams of paper printouts. Through his perseverance and patience, he was able to catch the hackers. Dr. Stoll wrote the book, The Cuckoo's Egg: Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage, in 1989 which provides his first-person account of his hackers-catching odyssey. A 1990 PBS documentary, “The KGB, the Computer, and Me,” provided additional information. In this episode we cover additional facts about the hack, that include more discussion of the technical and security perspectives, still applicable, and some of the specific work that Dr. Stoll did during his tracking of the wily hackers, that actually seem to have inspired some of the tools commonly used by cybersecurity pros today…that they probably don't even realize were first established by Clifford Stoll! We also hear Dr. Stoll's thoughts about cybersecurity, education, technology, the importance of asking questions and curiosity, the polarimetry of Jupiter at large phase angles, Klein bottles, and much, much more. The KGB was the main security agency for the Soviet Union. Tasked with surveillance and rooting out dissidents, religious practitioners and anti-government organisations, the KGB were feared for their intimidation tactics and brutality. They operated across the soviet countries with a particularly sinister presence in Ukraine. In his desperate attempt to restore the Soviet Union, Putin has silenced critics, historians and organisations that reveal the atrocities committed under the Soviet regime. While the Russian KGB files are completely classified once again, the Ukrainian archives are open for all. Dr Tatiana Vagramenko is currently shedding light on the contents of those archives. She tells Dan that 'what we are witnessing in this current war is the forceful drive to control the pen of Soviet history. This history preserved in Soviet-era archives, is one of the underlying causes of the current war in Europe and peace cannot be achieved without understanding and coming to terms with this past.'She has spent hours pouring over confiscated letters, diaries, interrogation notes and photos to reveal the lives of ordinary Ukrainians suffering under the persecution of the KGB. She tells Dan about their stories, their suffering and their defiance. Her project is called History Declassified: The KGB and the religious underground in Soviet Ukraine. If you'd like to learn more, we have hundreds of history documentaries, ad-free podcasts and audiobooks at History Hit - subscribe today! It's Fake News Friday on the Candice Malcolm Show, and Candice and True North journalist Harrison Faulkner break down the worst of the worst of biased media and pro-war propaganda. While the legacy media insist the situation is black and white, and that anyone saying anything skeptical of the news coverage or about any Ukrainian is a Putin-shill or pushing Russian KGB disinformation. We reject that idea. Two things can be true at the same time. Putin is an aggressor, a tyrant and a war criminal. Also. Ukraine has sketchy elements that shouldn't be ignored and that Canada's Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland shouldn't support. The legacy media continues to show Canadians that they cannot be trusted to report the truth. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this raw and real conversation, Clare Fanner spoke to Nick Bailey. On 4th March 2018 Nick became contaminated with the nerve agent Novichok when he attended the home of former Russian spy, Sergei Skripal.Nick spoke about the impact that a shock like his Novichok poisoning can have on a person's psychological health, overcoming adversity and the resilience needed to pick up and move forward, as well as the importance of mental wellbeing. He also discussed leadership, not only from his own experiences as a Police Officer but from the positive and empathetic leadership shown by his own chain of command towards him and his family in the aftermath of the Salisbury poisonings.About Nick BaileyNick Bailey is a former Police Officer. Nick was propelled into the public consciousness during the infamous Salisbury Poisoning event in 2018 that saw the former Russian KGB officer Sergei Skipral and his daughter Yulia, attacked with the nerve agent, Novichok. Nick was inadvertently contaminated with the nerve agent when he touched the door handle of the Skripal's home. Not only did Nick have to fight for his life in intensive care, but he and his family lost their home and all their possessions, due to Novichok contamination.A dedicated Police Officer for 18 years, Nick decided to leave the Police after deciding that it wasn't possible for him to continue in the same role that had exposed him to such a traumatic event – an event that no other Police Officer had been through. Nick has talked of the “emotional battering” and psychological impact that the event had on him.
This week I am joined by Nick Bailey, Husband, Father and former Detective Sergeant. After serving 18 years as a Police Officer, Nick is now a speaker, talking with organisations about mental health and resilience. On Sunday 4th March 2018, an assassination attempt was made on former Russian KGB officer Sergei Skripal. Nick attended the Skripal home address and unknowingly became contaminated by the nerve agent Novichok. Nick battled through intensive care but the fight wasn't over. After leaving hospital he and his family were told not only would they not be able to return home, but their possessions would also need to be destroyed. This is an incredible story of a family showing resilience and pulling each other through. In the episode you will hear: 03:30 getting caught up in an assassination attempt 06:00 the events of Sunday 4th March 2018 12:30 a tsunami of fire 14:15 “you have novichok in your system” 16:30 not a hero 19:40 the children showed incredible resilience 21:00 “you can't go back to the house” 24:00 paranoia 27:00 returning to work 29:45 “you are incapable of being a police officer” 32:00 the life changing mirror moment 35:00 using your story for good 38:50 dragging ourselves through adversity 43:00 we make time to talk 47:44 it's counter productive to give yourself a hard time I know this will inspire you. ONE OF THE TOUGHEST SPIES YOU WILL EVER MEET In the first book in this classic series, a former CIA spy behind the German lines in WW2 and secret agent fighting the Russian KGB in Europe during the Cold War, returns to the states to find himself up against the dirtiest plot ever against the U.S. Russia's top secret agent has infiltrated the country, making an unholy deal with the Mafia, for an unlimited supply of heroin, the Mafia agrees to back all Reds' activities in the United States. The streets will be flooded with smack … and the back alleys with Russian agents working to bring down America. Meet Morocco Jones, he never gives a bad guy an even break. "Only suckers play straight in my game. Ethics is a word that means holes in your head—bullet holes. I'm one of those old-fashioned operatives. When someone takes out after me, I don't bother to haul out my conscience and frisk it for motives. I just shut my mouth and swing. A gun is nice, too, but I like the personal touch. There's this Russian agent Bardo, for instance. I've been waiting a long time to catch up with him. And vice versa. He just rented a bunch of trigger-happy gorillas from the Mafia zoo. It gripes me to have to keep shoving corpses out of my hotel room, but I like things neat. Pretty soon Bardo will run out of fall guys… Stick around, chum — the party's just beginning…." First Morocco Jones is coming for the Commie spy ring, then he plans to take on the Mafia Syndicate — the entire Mafia…. "Overseas, during the war, we always felt a sort of aloofness — an objectivity. We were like soldiers in an expeditionary force. No matter how well we might know and believe in the cause for which we fought, the fact still remained that we were on foreign soil, far from home. The battle didn't touch anything close to us. Then, all of a sudden, we're home and it's the same old battle being waged in our own back yard. The enemy is here. And that makes you do some thinking. It makes you reassemble your values; re-evaluate your beliefs and loyalties. You realize very keenly and personally how much these things mean to you. Then you lose all your aloofness and objectivity. Your enemy ceases to be a shadowy figure and becomes a more powerful threat, a greater menace, an active and evil thing that is tearing at the very foundations of your own house." --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

This week on Pop and Politics, we discuss the narcissist-in-cheif Donald Trump and his ongoing effort to sow distrust in the upcoming election. His suggestion that the November election be delayed goes beyond threatening our democracy at home, but has ripple effects around the world. We also discuss the much anticipated decision of the presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden on who will be his running mate. There has been a lot of speculation, and a surprise name is rising as a potential contender. Lastly, we talk about a former Russian KGB spy detailing disinformation tactics ahead of the 2020 Election. The efforts of the Russian government to influence and spread dissent and chaos in the West - particularly the United States - should not be overlooked just months from a presidential election. Part one of THE DYATLOV PASS INCIDENT: A COLD WAR TRAGEDY deals with one of the greatest unsolved wilderness mysteries known- the mysterious and violent deaths of 9 members of a Russian ski group in the Ural Mountain wilderness in February of 1959. In part one provide the background and explore the characters of the young men and women who died outside their tent in various stages of dress- lacking enough clothing to protect them in sub zero weather- all because they were forced by what looks like great fear to leave their tent at night with no time for preparation. Autopsies showed that many bore defensive bruises, and some had multiple broken ribs, eyeballs and tongues missing, and crushed skulls. Many showed radiation burns. Theories range from a killer yeti to fireballs to Russian KGB to a nuclear weapon. We'll present our theory in part two. Satan is working to destroy the very foundations of America. God wants people to be free. Satan wants people in bondage or captivity so he can control them and keep them away from God and His purposes. Socialism fits Satan’s agenda to put people in bondage. Therefore, to bring socialism to pass, America’s freedom must be destroyed. An economic system of socialism will hurt our ability to make money in life or find opportunities to make money. Under America’s capitalism, we are free to take our opportunities, use our talents and skills to become whatever we want to be in life and/or make as much money as our abilities will take us. America promotes the rights of the individual being free to pursue their level of happiness. Socialism, however, promotes a collectivism form of government or economic system where monies are collectively owned by all the people. Everyone is equally distributed the same amount. Our monies from our hard earned work will not all go to us, but to everyone else, including those who do not want to work. This is why we do not want a socialist form of government. Therefore, in order to institute socialism in America, American society must break down. America stands on three foundational pillars that keep it free and secure. 1. The Constitution, which gives us freedom with rights 2. Capitalism, which gives us a free market economy with opportunities to be whoever we want to be, pursue our dreams, and make money. 3. Christianity, which gives us the values needed in our hearts to protect our property and keep God’s blessings upon us. According to Psalm 33:12, blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Those foundations must be uprooted in order to destroy America. All three are under attack today so that America will lose its sovereignty to usher in a New World Order. What people do not see is that all the upheaval and chaos in our nation is a result of socialism working to break down America. I have found evidence of it behind everything happening in our country. Our societal boundaries are all being broken down. A. Lawlessness in the streets breaks down the rule of law. Recent city riots cause law enforcement to back away from enforcing the law. B. Large caravans of illegal immigrants enter our nation to break down our borders and overload and break down the American system. C. There is a breakdown of marriage and family. D. Moral and sexual boundaries are breaking down. Perversion in most hip hop, rap, and hard rock music works to control and bring down the next generation. E. The feminist and Me Too movements are designed to change God’s order of family. F. Gay rights and gay marriage advance because America’s morals are decaying. G. There is a disrespect for the sanctity of life. Satan knows God’s laws. If he can get America to rebel against God’s laws, then he can control the nation. H. Race riots and violent protests tear down God’s laws. Our people are being used emotionally to bring lawlessness. I. College students ignorantly accept socialism and push an antichrist agenda. J. Churches and pastors are more involved with ungodliness. Many seminaries and churches have been taken over by atheists and socialists. Christians suffer persecution. K. Schools and local governments are driving God out of society. L. The secular media pushes agendas, promotes ungodliness, and resists anything Christian. M. Our Second Amendment rights of gun ownership are being challenged. Why? A nation that is unarmed and cannot protect itself can easily be overtaken. N. Islam and Muslim extremism is respected and advanced in America to remove Christianity and hopefully bring about Sharia law, where women will have no freedom. There is evidence of Russian KGB officers in alliance with Muslim extremists working together to stir up hatred against the US and Israel. O. In order to tear down a free, capitalist society, workers must be turned against their employers or the wealthy in class warfare. There must be constant divisiveness to tear down America. We are divided in every class. The goal is to pit the wealthy against the poor, black against white, Democrats against Republicans, and gays against straight. In this way, division and discontent occur, and it is easier to take control of a nation. P. Government-controlled healthcare is the first step to creating a socialist nation. To control the healthcare is to control the people. Through the Affordable Healthcare Act, the government now controls our healthcare. The law now mandates what the doctors can do, the hospitals we can visit, the surgeries we can have, and the medication we can take. They also control the insurance companies. So if a socialist leader comes to power in the US, then the government can deny us healthcare if they want. The first thing Hitler did to control Germany was to control the healthcare. We have to obey the government if they control our health. Q. Another goal is to increase the poverty level as high as possible because poor people are easier to control. This is why one party wants to give welfare, government money, social programs, and other entitlements. The government controls our lives with checks and food stamps. If the government gives people food, shelter, income, and daycare, then they have to do what the government says. R. Socialism also wants to take control of education and what kids read, hear, and learn. In this way, this and future generations will accept socialism. Remove their history books, and they will never know what America is and what it stands for. And they will not see socialism and its dangers.
On this episode of Russia Rising, we’ll take a closer look at the man who has ruled over the world’s largest country for nearly two decades: Vladimir Putin was a poor kid from a tough neighbourhood who became a Russian KGB agent, a billionaire and the country’s longest-serving leader since Stalin. Along the way, he’s also been accused of committing a laundry list of atrocities. To truly understand what motivates Putin — why he does what he does — we need to know where he came from. To that end, we’ll speak with Arkady Ostrovsky, the Russian editor for the Economist magazine and Steven Lee Myers, a Putin Biographer and veteran journalist with the New York Times. We’ll explore Putin’s rapid rise to power in an interview with Jeremy Kinsman, Canada’s former ambassador to Russia. We'll also attempt to answer the question "what is Putin's motivation?" by speaking with a former KGB agent named Alexander Vassiliev. Vassiliev who was recruited by the KGB in the 1980s and attended the same spy training school at around the same time as Putin. Michael Covel makes the connection between Miss Korea and a TED speech called "Embracing The Shake" today on the podcast. Miss Korea's video pokes fun at those wanting "more, more, more" and the TED video is concerned with an artist doing more with less. What can you do with less? In the trading world trend following by its very nature is about doing more with less. David Harding was looking for something he could do from a desert island. Getting back to the idea of doing more with less, Covel reads an excerpt about Harding from the Hedge Fund Journal. Harding stepped outside the sheep behavior of the efficient market hypothesis and looked at the data in a different way. Next, Covel plays a clip from former Russian KGB officer Yuri Bezmenov in which he talks about the four step process that forces people to become lost; the four steps which can be used to change the thinking and behavior of entire generations. Demoralization, destabilization, crisis, and normalization. The normalization can last forever. That's what's happening in modern day society. If that is it, the idea of David Harding being curious and looking outside the box (or inside the box as the "Embrace The Shake" video says) is more important than ever. Critical thinking is everything. Want a free trend following DVD? Go to trendfollowing.com/win.
