He explains the challenges and successes of managing a startup political organization focused on free markets and individualism in the classical-liberal tradition. After four years of inactivity, the Atlantic Party re-entered the political scene in 2016, contesting the 2017 and 2021 provincial elections. While they did not secure seats in the legislature, Smyth believes they shifted Nova Scotia's political dialogue. In April 2024, the Atlantica Party opted to deregister, given a lack of volunteers. However, Smyth contends that operating the Atlantica Party was a worthwhile endeavor, albeit from the margins. Despite modest electoral results, the party succeeded in bringing classic-liberal concerns to the electorate. Several of their proposals have been adopted by other political parties and leaders, marking a lasting influence even without legislative representation.

In this month's episode, Pastor Jeff sits down with 'Captain Canada' Ryan Smyth to discuss last nights Versus Conference and his amazing story. From growing up in Canada, to his time in the NHL and his families recent relocation to the Nashville area, Ryan is the epitome of giving your success over to the Lord. Growing up, Ryan was always a talented athlete, but he knew something was missing. As he shared last night at Versus, the void of Jesus led to a lot of brokeness. Ryan put his life and worth in his identity as a hockey player, and at times forgot his identity in Christ. This episode is his story of transformation and leaving a Jesus centered legacy.

A new week is here and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get through the rest of your Monday. On today's podcast, the guys looked at Smytty Day, which former Oiler should honoured next, the current road trip, and a whole lot more. To kick things off, the guys got the podcast started with a look at Smytty Day that kicked off on the website yesterday and how it was fun to watch Nation Citizens chime in with their favourite Ryan Smyth moments and stories about what he meant to them. For so many of us, Ryan Smyth was the Edmonton Oilers and it was a lot of fun to rehash those old stories and dig into all of the moments that made him special. From there, the guys looked at which former Oiler should be the next man up when it comes to a deep dive into their career. Changing gears, Tyler told a story about a weird Airbnb experience he had down in Arizona a couple of weeks back, and how it seemed like he was staying in some kind of murder house. With the one-star rating out of the way, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about clothes as it was revealed that neither Baggedmilk nor Wanye own any dress clothes.

Two episodes of Better Lait Than Never on back-to-back days? It couldn't be! If you listened to last night's podcast with Wanye, you'll know that it was a marathon conversation that dove deep into the history of Oilersnation, where the idea came from, and what it took to make things go even when the site wasn't making any money. The problem, if you want to call it that, is that the conversation went on for nearly three hours, which meant that I had to forego the Righand Distillery voicemail because it probably would have tacked on another hour onto what was already a monster podcast. As a result, I decided to get back in the studio — by that, I mean setting my shit up on my kitchen table — and work through all of the amazing voicemails you've been leaving for me over the last week. And as always, you guys came through with another hilarious collection of randomness that was just too good to ignore, and that's why I was so pumped to dedicate this bonus episode to the amazing Nation citizens that making this thing work.
In this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never, I wanted to clear some time and space because I knew that having Wanye as a guest meant that this one would run long. As expected, that's exactly what happened. As much as I expected that this episode of the podcast was going to be different, I didn't really expect that it would go into as many areas as Wanye and I ended up getting to, but I also don't know why I was surprised. Any time the two of us get together with nothing but time on our hands, we end up diving into so many weird areas that I didn't really get to many of the topics I had prepped for today's show. From the start of Oilersnation to Ryan Smyth to his love of hip hop and pop culture, diving into Wanye's brain is something that I always enjoy and I really hope you all feel the same. And of course, how could I do a podcast with Wanye without talking about our beloved Edmonton Oilers, what's going on with this team, and where we think it needs to go to bring this franchise back to greatness. I know this is a fairly new podcast for me, but this was easily my favourite episode so far and I really hope you guys like it too.
Another Thursday has landed on your calendar and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode to help you get through the rest of your week. On today's podcast, the guys looked at what's going on with the Oilers, Kanye West, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, the guys got started with a conversation about Tyler nearing vomiting before the podcast started after confessing that he packed away a bunch of penne alfredo before the show. After busting his balls for a little bit, the podcast turned to TV as both Wanye and Jay offered their takes on Inventing Anna as they're diving into one of the latest Netflix trends. The guys also looked at the Kanye West docu-series, Jeen-Yuhs, and how it's incredible to see the process that led up to him becoming one of the biggest rappers of all time. Getting to the Oilers, the guys looked at last night's loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning and how it was incredibly frustrating to watch the team play so well but not get the saves they needed to close things out. From there, the guys discussed Ryan Smyth day that is coming up on Sunday, Feb. 27th, which marks the 15th anniversary of the trade that sent him to the New York Islanders. As you'll soon see, there will be a lot of Ryan Smyth content over the weekend as the crew will pay tribute to the man that was the whole reason this website exists. Hosted on Acast. Dan and special guest Noel Fogelman revisit one of the most bizarre episodes in recent Islanders history, the many-layered acquisition of "Captain Canada" Ryan Smyth. They look at all of the crazy factors leading up to the 2007 trade deadline and how the Islanders came out of nowhere to grab the power forward after a stalled contract negotiation with Edmonton. They talk about his productive - if unmemorable - time on the ice, his unceremonious exit in free agency and the Islanders "legacy" Smyth left behind and probably doesn't even know he has. Along the way they laugh about emotional goodbyes, dramatic news reports and players who should never have left their original teams (and who all somehow ended up playing for the Islanders). It's Friday afternoon and that can only mean one thing — a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio is here to help you finish off your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we looked at the Chicago Blackhawks fiasco, the Oilers' loss to Philadelphia, previewed tomorrow's game against the Canucks, another round of Ask the Idiots, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, we got started with a look at the Chicago Blackhawks situation now that the investigation has been completed, the report was released, and Kyle Beach came forward as the player affected. As you'll hear, it was a very tough conversation for us to have but one that was incredibly important. Getting back to the regularly scheduled programming, we got into the Oilers talk with a debate about the line combinations and whether or not Dave Tippett should mix things up with his trios. Seeing as the Oilers got tagged with their first loss of the year, we looked at what went wrong and what they need to do to rebound tomorrow against Vancouver. We also got into another round of Ask the Idiots that was ripe with hypothetical situations and I made sure the boys gave their hottest takes on all the questions you fine folks submitted during the week. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with a look at the last seven days and what we liked and disliked from the last seven days. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

He then discusses his transfer to Brookdale in NJ, his two years there, making the Junior College World Series, being named First Team All-American, and transferring to Division III Keystone College in Pennsylvania for his final 2 seasons where the team went 70-15. Ryan talks about his season playing professionally in the Frontier League, his decision to become a coach on the staff at Keystone College, making it to 2 College World Series, winning 15 straight Conference Titles, and coaching in the Cape Cod League in the summers. He also explains his love for golf which has become a family affair with his wife and daughter.
Another Thursday is upon us which means another episode of the Real Life Podcast is set to help wrap up the week and get set for the weekend. This week, the boys discussed Taylor Hall signing in Buffalo, what an all Canadian Division would look like, Tyson Barrie's number, and welcomed Scott Hastings from OddsShark to talk about the world of betting. To kick off today's podcast, the guys jumped in with a look at Baggedmilk's doppelganger that popped up on Instagram this past week after it was discovered another guy in Edmonton is calling himself Baggedmilk and recording podcast. Is there a turf war brewing between the two? Will they come together in some kind of partnership? Back to the NHL, the guys discussed Taylor Hall signing in Buffalo and whether or not it makes any sense for a guy that claimed he was looking to win rather than secure a bag. That said, does a one-year contract in Buffalo pave the way for a return to Edmonton later on? Should the Oilers even be interested in bringing Hall back? From there, the guys looked at the possibility of an all Canadian Division and what that would look like for rivalries around the country and the NHL at large. Touching on a sensitive subject for many fans around here, the boys discussed whether they'd be okay with Tyson Barrie choosing to wear #94 as he did last season in Toronto. Does it matter if he comes in and wears Ryan Smyth's old number? Lastly, the guys wrapped things up by welcoming Scott Hastings from OddsShark to the podcast as he helped to break down NHL free agency, betting trends from the NFL, and the latest news in the world of sports. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Captain Canada joins Cam and Andy on this edition of the Cam and Strick Podcast. What a career Ryan Smyth had, an Edmonton Oilers All-Star who transitioned into a Canadian Icon after appearing in seven consecutive World Championships. This is in addition to representing his country in the World Junior Championships, the World Cup, and twice in the Olympics. He even played in the Spengler Cup. How much does Smyth love the game of Hockey? After playing over 1200 NHL games he played Senior hockey which led to a visit to the hospital after being taken down by an elbow to the head. What does he think of the guy who took him out? While that proved to not be a very good idea, it's hard to criticize the rest of his career. During his prime he was considered among the top power forwards in the game and the face of the Oilers franchise. Smyth is now living his best life in Nashville, Tennessee of all places. Living on eight acres, he and his wife have four kids and are loving retirement life. So much to get into with Ryan Smyth, from almost becoming a Detroit Red Wing, his relationship with Mike Babcock, to why he was so emotionally attached to the city of Edmonton. Check out Ryan Smyth on this edition of the Cam and Strick Podcast.
Welcome, friends, to a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio. As always, we're shutting down the week with a fresh podcast to discuss all things Edmonton Oilers and get you set for your weekend. To kick off this week's episode, we jumped in with a look at Edmonton Oilers legend, Ryan Smyth. Seeing as this was episode 94 of Oilersnation Radio, I thought it would be fun to ask the boys their favourite Smytty moments and spend a few minutes talking about a guy that bled blue and orange for his entire time in Edmonton. From there, we looked at the NHL playoffs, specifically the play-in rounds, and had a conversation about which series outside of the Oilers/Blackhawks that we're looking forward to the most. Sticking with the playoffs, we looked at the announcement that came down today that the 50/50 would be available online for Edmonton Oilers games. Seeing as we're a city that loves the 50/50, we decided to turn this into a Price is Right style game to bet on how these totals are going to get. Could the 50/50 break a million dollars? We also spoke about the news that came out this week which showed which hotels players will be staying at in Edmonton and laughed a little bit about how the Flames and Canucks are at the Sutton while our beloved Oilers get to stay at the JW Marriott.

Another work week is in the books and that means another episode of Oilersnation Radio is here to get you set up for the weekend. This week, we looked at the Oilers road trip that just wrapped up, Josh Archibald's two-year extension, line combinations, goalie talk, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast, we fell down an accidental wormhole of looking at the Asian Hockey League for some reason. Whilst down there, we found out that there are a couple of former Oilers playing in that league, including Alex Plante who was a player drafted with one of the picks acquired in the Ryan Smyth trade to New York. Back to business, we started our Oilers talk with a discussion about Josh Archibald's new contract and how Ken Holland seems to be taking care of his to-do list as early as possible. We also looked at the salary cap supposedly going up for next season and how that will affect some of the Oilers' decisions moving forward. Sticking with the future, I made an impassioned plea for Edmonton to re-sign Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to an extension this summer so that the core can be locked up long term. From there, we switched gears to some goalie talk, including who should get the start in tomorrow's game against the Blue Jackets and wondered why Dave Tippett seems to handle his two keepers so differently. Sticking with the coach, we also looked at some of the line combinations he ran with on the road trip and wondered if there could be a shuffle coming after a couple of lacklustre performances against the Stars and Blackhawks. Lastly, we finished up this week's show with some score predictions for tomorrow night's game against the Blue Jackets along with the Hot and Cold Performers of the Week. Hosted on Acast. Matthew Tkachuk is not making any friends in the Western Conference. This was on full display on Saturday night in Calgary as the Battle of Alberta, and the battle for a playoff spot reached a fever pitch. Ryan, Geeta and P Mac hunker down in the palatial estate during Snowmageddon 2020 in Vancouver. They spend a great deal of time breaking down the Oilers/Flames game, the Tkachuk and Kassian ugliness and the suspension that followed. Dave skypes in to join the gang and talk about the New Jersey Devils firing Ray Shero midseason. After an anomaly of a playoff appearance in 2017/18 and some big name acquisitions, things never panned out the way the Devils hoped. Finally the gang discuss the slumping and injured Toronto Maple Leafs, touch on Quinn Hughes making the All-Star Game and talk about the Canucks' polarizing road trip. They also answer some great listener questions! Support the show on Patreon! Pledge a coupla bucks (or $5) and get instant access to all our bonus content. This week the gang discuss their cabin fever during this arctic front as Geeta and Ryan depict a strange and unusual home life for Paul and his cardboard cutouts of Ryan Smyth and Johnny Depp. Ryan discusses a brain teaser, Geeta wants everyone to go see The Grizzlies film and they discuss Oscar nominations. BEST OF! Everyone is sick, so Maj dug up the RYAN SMYTH interview originally done on May 8th, 2017, days before Game 7 between Oilers and Ducks. It was done by the O.G. hosts of this pod, Jason Gregor and Jason Strudwick. Wanye is there, but you can tell he's stunned it's Smitty. Smitty talks about his middle name (without googling it, do you know it?), Game 7, and the potential of a comeback. We'll be back next week! Hosted on Acast. In this episode the guys discuss the dirty hit in a Senior League that saw Ryan Smyth end up with a concussion and it begs to question why some guys can't walk away from playing the game. Plus, Josh Ho-Sang has provided the Islanders with a much needed spark and has them fighting it out for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and the guys are joined by NHWL All-Star Gigi Marvin of the Boston Pride and the USWNT to discuss growing up in Warroad Minnesota and the recent news that the US Women's team will be boycotting the World Championships this year in Plymouth Michigan. Jannik Hansen is a Shark, there's one hell of a condition on that 4th round pick they gave the Canucks and what do you know, Jarome Iginla is chasing rings again! Ryan and P Mac hold down the fort this week while Dave is in Burma and Geeta is off, so the PON black ace, the Alex Biega of the group, Simon Baldwin joins the fold. The gang discusses Ryan's financial hardships with selling pucks on the internet and other problems in the PON books. They talk about Ryan Smyth getting made fun of on Sportsnet by Ryan Whitney and Colby Armstrong. Do we have a controversy here? Or just one fan base taking themselves a bit too seriously again? They also discuss Jannik Hansen's deadline deal to San Jose and how it feels good to be a Canucks fan again, with an actual clear direction for the team from management and what appears to be ownership as well! Are we rebuilding?? They discuss Jonathan Toews getting hot at the right time, NHL first star of the month for February, Josh Ho-Sang making his NHL debut wearing number 66 and the Montreal Canadiens trading for the same thing multiple times this NHL trade deadline...a whole lotta sandpaper! We've had enough of the pre-season, lets just start the regular season already. Ryan, Paul, Geeta (recovering from a cold) and the PON studio audience get together to watch a snoozer of a Canucks/Coyotes pre-season game and take the Province Sports' quiz "How prepared are you for the 2014-15 NHL season?" and keep coming back to Joe Thornton's four goal celebration and Ryan Smyth's teary farewell. None the less, Paul and Ryan test their knowledge and see just how ready they are for the upcoming season. They also discuss Jeter and Selanne's retirements and the New York Islanders in Brooklyn along with 400 obstructed view seats. Enjoy!

Deep Purple with Ryan Smyth
Today we took on Northwest Division Rivals the Edmonton Oilers in our 500th home game. We lost to them 2-1, both of their goals coming from Ryan Smyth, who needed to be carried to the locker room at the end of the game. The Avs continued their power play goal drought, not getting a power play goal this game, just like last game when we went 0 for 6. The Avs really need to pick up on the power play, anything is better than how its going right now. You know you need to reconsider your power play plan when you are getting scored on when you are on the power play. We now leave the Calgary Flames as the sole holders of the last place position in the Northwest Division. Today Patrick Roy, who holds the record for most regular season wins, and won 2 Stanley Cups with the Avs, was inducted into the hall of fame.
