In this episode, we talk about the fictional character Miranda Priestly from the novel and film, The Devil Wears Prada. We consider how the other characters saw Miranda, both the good and the bad. Then we look at what audiences thought of Priestly, especially with the release of the film, but also a bit about how those perceptions have changed or at least shifted over the last two decades. Finally, we wrap up with a discussion about the struggles of women in the workforce and what it takes to do the work that Miranda Priestly did and stay there.   Follow the podcast: BlueSky and Twitter: @BigRepPod Instagram and TikTok: @BigReputationsPod   Become a Patreon supporter: patreon.com/bigreputationspod   Merch: https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/86669619 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hosts: Kimberly Kunkle and Rebecca L. On the one hundredth and eigtheenth edition of Reality Bomb, we have our longest episode yet as we catch up on all the news we've missed while we were off (plus a few other things!) First, Graeme Burk talks with Lacy Baugher Milas of Den of Geek about Doctor Who's return to SDCC after five years away. We finish our review of the latest season, and look to the future, as Sage Young and Sanjay Lago discuss Rogue, The Legend of Ruby Sunday and Empire of Death. And we look to the past, or rather how the past is being re-presented through new blu-ray and streaming releases with Jon Arnold and Max Kaschevsky... which leads nicely into Gallery of the Underrated, where James Cooray Smith (of Graeme's favourite Doctor Who-themed newsletter, The Psychic Paper -- which you should really subscribe!) brings the recently CG animated missing story, The Celestial Toymaker. Plus Hot Take Roulette with KatyBeth Schmid... and Spoiler Cops concludes!

On a special episode of Reality Bomb, we're continuing our tenth anniversary celebrations with a journey through Doctor Who and its fandom over the past decade with our editorials. We've trawled through our archives we're presenting ten editorials from past ten years of Reality Bomb that talk about what enrages, enthralls, excites and enlivens us as Doctor Who fans. This special collection includes: Graeme's discussion of the Doctor being "never cruel or cowardly" and how that played out in the then-recent retcon in Day of the Doctor from December 2013. (Episode 006) Graeme conducts an interview with Chris Chibnall (in absentia) about all the things that have bothered him about Doctor Who's non-existent promotion of the series with its fans back in 2019. (Episode 085) Joy looks back on how Last Christmas was there for her during a particularly difficult holiday season. (Episode 075) Sage Young talks about how one of the first things she did during the pandemic was renew her Britbox subscription, and how doing the pilgrimage through Classic Doctor Who helped her through that period. (Episode 087) From September 2021: RTD returns, and Graeme has many, many, many, many feelings about it. (Episode 092) The first story of Joel and Carlie in a special, rarely heard, "studio" version recorded in November 2013 (originally presented in Epsiode 006a) Priya Deonarain takes us through the then-recent Flux and talks about the themes, ideas and big swings this story took. (Episode 095) From our shelter-in-place live zoom shows from 2020, Joy talks about the Doctor Who Blackout event, how it came out of a planned live-tweeting that failed to connect to recent events... and what all of us can do to be a better ally to BIPOC fans. (Episode 081) Introduced by Rebecca Farren Back in 2018, Doctor Who Magazine went to a North American convention to a #metoo panel... and had a British middle aged guy interview another British middle aged guy about it. Graeme talks about what's wrong with this picture, how DWM is so insular editorially, and how that reflects fandom as a whole. (Episode 056) From our first Gallifrey One live show in 2017, Graeme looks back on the past Gallys he's attended, and why he loves conventions so much. (Episode 043) A quick note... you may have heard that some fan creators are no longer covering Doctor Who due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, because Doctor Who is on the SAG-AFTRA list of struck work. We fully support the strike and the writers and actors fighting for fair contracts; however, fan podcasts like ours can continue to discuss Doctor Who because we're not bound by either union's rules that prevent members from promoting struck work. As fans, there are many ways you can support the strike and the workers. To that end, we'd like to offer a few resources: Donation page for the Entertainment Community Fund SAG-AFTRA's Strike info page WGA's strike info page

Each week on The Moment, I speak with a different guest about an individual moment in an episode of Doctor Who that means a lot to them. This trailer includes audio from upcoming episodes featuring guests Houman Sadri, Mikayla Micomonaco, Rachel T, Chas Lilly, Erika Ensign, Connie Gibbs, Deb Stanish, Chip Sudderth, and Sage Young. (It also features audio from Doctor Who, obviously.) Season 2 of The Moment begins on July 3rd, 2019. As always, the best thing you can do to help support the show is to recommend it to someone you think might enjoy it. But this year you can also support the show with money, on Patreon (http://patreon.com/themomentpod). For now there are no special benefits associated with being a Patron, it’s just a way for you to support the show if you’re interested, But when I reach $50 per episode, I’ll start doing bonus episodes every two months, and I might add other goals or rewards in the future. Please note that the Moment’s Patron does charge per episode, some Patreons charge per month, but this one is going to charge you each time I put out a regular non-bonus episode of the show. So that should be once a week for thirteen weeks, and then not at all, for a few months, until the show starts again for season 3. I did that because I didn’t want it to charge anyone for months when the show is not being produced. And if you would like to support the show but don’t want to make it a recurring thing of it, you can head over to Ko-Fi (http://ko-fi.com/themomentpod) and do that there. I want to stress that the show is free, and it will always be free, and you do not need to pay for it unless you want to. If you do choose to throw a little money my way, know that I am grateful. However, regardless of whether you choose to support the show on Patreon, please also use your money to support causes that make a real difference in the world. I suggest donating to an organization like the American Civil Liberties Union (http://aclu.org), or the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (http://raicestexas.org). You may recall that the first episode of The Moment ended with an editorial about the crisis at the southern US border, and in the year since then things have not gotten any better. And if you’re looking for something else to do with your money then might I suggest you donate to organizations that support transgender rights, like Mermaids UK (https://www.mermaidsuk.org.uk), which advocates for transgender youths in the UK, and the Transgender Law Center (https://www.transgenderlawcenter.org), an org that advocates for trans rights laws and policies in the US. Trans folks are a vital part of the Doctor Who fan community, and in the past month or so, there have been some rather distressing instances of people with platforms in that community spouting bigoted, transphobic rhetoric or normalizing transphobia. And a recent report from the BBC (https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-48756370), indicating that anti-transgender hate crimes across the UK are up 81% from where they were two years ago, serves as a reminder of the consequences that this rhetoric can have, and the reason it’s important to protect our transgender friends in the Doctor Who fan community and the world at large. Like I’ve said in the past, my primary goal for the Moment is not to serve as a political soapbox. But the Second Doctor said it best: “There are some corners of the universe which have bred the most terrible things. Things that act against everything we believe in. They must be fought.” That’s all for now, follow the show at @themomentpod (http://twitter.com/themomentpod) on twitter, support the show on Patreon (http://patreon.com/themomentpod) And stay tuned, because season 2 will be with you, in a Moment.

MUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast continues previewing the 2019 Gallifrey One convention, this time with our great friends from HeadOverFeels.com, Kim Rogers & Sage Young!  It's become a pre-Gally tradition to visit with Sage & Kim before the convention to get the rundown on all the cool things they're participating in at Gally! We will talk about the epic upcoming "This or That" panel session with Pearl Mackie, Nicola Bryant, and Rosie Jane.  "This or That" was a favorite of everyone (including the guest participants) at last year's Gally, and this year's edition should be a blast!  (Saturday 1 pm in Program A) We will also talk about another HoF-led favorite, the Fan Video Happy Hour - Sage & Kim always pick a fantastic crop of emotional and fabulous videos put together by some amazingly talented folks.  Bring your tissues! (Friday 4 pm Program E) We'll then cover the individual panels that the ladies will be on - Sage is on the "Doctor Who Crossover: Musicals Edition" panel (with another friend of the show, Susan Stanton) at 6 pm Friday in Program C.  This should be a fun and interactive panel where the panel of ardent fans of Broadway musicals recast various works with Doctor Who characters playing parts.  Kim is moderating the "Midnight in the Garden of Who and Evil" at 11 pm Saturday in Program C.  This 18+ panel will focus on the world of fan fiction and will include some dramatic readings of works created by the panelists and by the audience.   This is a fun conversation with Kim & Sage, and it's a definite sign that Gally is ALMOST HERE!  Come have a listen!

It is indeed the MOST WONDERFUL TIME... OF THE YEAR!  That's right, the annual Gallifrey One Convention, the world's largest (and best) Doctor Who Convention is just around the corner, and MUTTER'S SPIRAL Podcast will be previewing the convention in full this week!  It's the 30th edition of the con; it's John's 15th and my 13th (and the podcast's 9th!); and it looks to be another corker of a weekend!  We'll talk all about the great guests (Including CATHERINE TATE, PEARL MACKIE, JOHN BARROWMAN, COLIN BAKER, and many more!), the fantastic fan panels (including the 2 John will be on), and of course the many other amazing highlights to come (THIS or THAT, FAN VIDEO HAPPY HOUR, IN DEFENSE OF, the ACADEMIC TRACK, and so much else).   It's our annual deep dive into and through the schedule.  We're super excited for Gally, and we hope to give listeners a taste of what's to come this year!  Also,  John finds out what game, featured in a panel at this year's Gally, that I've NEVER played, which stuns him while i promise to maybe, perhaps, possibly try to participate in one of the other great games.  So, it's chock full of Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey Stuff! We will also be doing 2 more previews of Gally: one with Joy Piedmont and Paul Booth, focused on the "Time Lord Timelines: An Academic Symposium", the Academic Track that they've put together (dropping Thursday); and one with our great friends Kim Rogers and Sage Young of HeadoverFeels.com for next week that'll discuss in detail THIS or THAT, FAN VIDEO HAPPY HOUR, the FanFic panel, the Doctor Who/Musicals crossover panel and more.
