Barbara began a stage career at age 15 with Little Theatre Productions. A demanding performance schedule sometimes required appearances in three states a day. At 19, Barbara enrolled in formal studies of music, theater, and dance at Indiana University. Although she had been steeped in classical music forms from childhood, jazz and blues fanned her inner fire as an entertainer coming of age. When an offer came to perform in Las Vegas, she was "all in." She relocated to Nevada and, over the next 14 years, captivated audiences with inspired interpretations of jazz standards, show tunes, and popular songs across genres. Barbara became known not only for her pure voice and exceptional, five-octave range but for her ability to connect with audiences emotionally and draw them into the music. A reputation for professionalism found her sharing the spotlight with such talents as Frank Sinatra Jr. and Billy Preston. As returned to the Midwest and, in collaboration with other jazz musicians, continued to perform in clubs and private venues. When the USO came calling, Barbara answered and joined the show, traveling the globe for three years as a featured entertainer, lifting the spirits of our men and women in uniform. Back at home, Barbara formed "Jazzin," her own ensemble, and her duo, Side by Side, with pianist, singer, and composer, John Michael O'Leary, is a perfect example of bringing jazz and timeless classics with a flair for love & laughter to audiences of all ages. Favorited Quote: Once there was a moment and four men, and of the moment and four men only one survived because he alone was able to step over the moment and move on to the next... Today's podcast on the lesser-known facts about popular films or TV shows is on the new critically acclaimed Amazon Prime TV series, Reacher, starring Alan Ritchson. Based on Lee Child's popular series of Jack Reacher novels, the franchise was previously adapted into an action film starring Tom Cruise. I'm your host Nikhil, Let's kickoff some trivia now.Alan Ritchson went through all of Lee Child's 24 novels on Jack Reacher as a way to prepare for his role in the series. Prior to the filming of the series, Alan Ritchson weighed 205lbs but still had to increase by 30lbs to fit the look of the gigantic figure of Jack Reacher. In order to achieve that, Ritchson was provided with a continuous supply of food on set. Oddly, the showrunner Nick Santora never once met Alan Ritchson (the main star of the series) or writer Lee Child in person. This is quite unconventional for a show of such a sizable budget and production value. Crucial processes of design, casting, even writing, were done over zoom calls. In fact, Santora was yet to meet Ritchson and Child face-to-face at the time of the first season's premiere on Amazon Prime. Author Lee Child, on whose Jack Reacher novels the show is based, himself makes a blink-and-miss cameo appearance on Reacher. He plays a man who briefly exchanges glances with Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher while he's entering the diner in the final moments of the first season. Child had also made appearances in the Tom Cruise films. The novels depict Reacher as being in the languages English, French and German. He speaks or understands no other language, as per the novels. However, in the series in the seventh episode, Reacher is seen interacting fluently in Arabic with a cab driver. The casting of Tom Cruise for the 2012 film was met with backlash as Cruise's height 5'7” and 79 kgs frame was significantly smaller than Lee Child's description of the character with a bulking physique of 6'5”tall and 113 kgs. However, the new Jack Reacher, Alan Ritchson, stands at 6'2” and is closer in appearance to the character created by Lee Child. Lee Child dedicated an entire paragraph in the novels to describe Jack Reacher's unique footwear, describing even the finest of details, including the material, stitching, thickness, sole, size, color, and style. But in the new series he is shown to wear generic boots without any attention to detail provided by the creators. If you haven't watched the series Reacher yet do so the newest episodes are streaming on Amazon Prime Video.Well that's the OTTplay Now You Know for today's episode, I shall be back again with a new podcast pretty soon, until then it's your Host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poocho.

Quotes: 20:43 “I really hope James that I never reach a point in my life in my career, that I don't think I can learn something from someone. Because, I believe that if you reach that point where you feel that you cannot learn anymore, then you're really done.” 27:58 “I really think that that's the whole inspiration behind the whole thing is that, push the other stuff aside, stay true to yourself, and move forward. And somewhere, someone along the way, is finally going to realize who you are and what you do.” 33:25 “I go back to the fact that I don't believe that it was my talent that stopped me; from our lack of talent that stopped me from making it a long time ago. If what we call making it is what we call like, being known all over the world. But I really believe it was because I believed that you had to keep the principles. If I cannot look in the mirror and like who I am, then I'm not gonna be happy.” 55:50 “It doesn't really make any difference if you've got 100 people or you've got 10,000 people. You are there to do what God gave you the gift to do and do it. Go for it. Go for it. I don't care how big your crowd is how little your crowd is. Give them all you've got because that's what God gave you.” 57:23 “For all of those out there that have given up. Put your career in God's hands, and in His timing, and let Him decide when it's right for you to do it. Because you're going to go through obstacles all along your way. But if you love it, and it's what you're driven to do, put it in His hands and watch his miracles happen.” Timestamps: 03:18 Introducing Barbara Santora 04:38 Barbara's music – has it always been jazz for her? 07:33 Barbara's time in USO 11:14 Listen to “Micky's” by Barbara Santora 13:54 How was Micky's put together? 16:29 Where did they record Micky's? 17:40 For Barbara, what is the best process when putting a song together? 22:37 Listen to “Midnight Escape” by Barbara Santora 26:41 The story behind the song “Midnight Escape” 28:52 Barbara shares her journey in Vegas, and some stories with the people, she shared the stage with. 35:31 For Barbara, what is her best chapter in life? 39:55 Listen to “That's Just the Way It Goes” by Barbara Santora 43:43 Barbara takes us to the studio when recording “That's Just the Way It Goes” 47:38 How are they doing in Indiana and how they handled the pandemic? 51:31 Barbara's favorite places to play. 56:18 Barbara Santora's message to the listeners Spotify Playlist: Make sure to check out the dHarmic Rising stars playlists on Spotify! Introduction: Today we are lucky enough to have with us none other than Michael Santora, a man who in every sense of the word is truly on a mission to make a difference for his clients, the skylines and infrastructures of cities globally, and for those not as fortunate. In my professional dealings with Michael, I have found him to be the Winston Wolf of architecture, design, due diligence, code consulting and expediting resolution. Yes, like the character portrayed by Harvey Keitel in the classic film Pulp Fiction, Michael solves problems! Given that the historical tradition of a crown, among other things, embodies that of knowledge, power, triumph, honor and wealth, the mantra of the firm he co-founded, namely Crown Architecture and Consulting, is that of ensuring that their designs and efforts will simultaneously maximize the potential of their client’s property and budget, while also making a difference for the private and public sectors. Episode Notes: At 3:16, Michael Santora stresses the importance of reading comprehension in his business. At 4:28, he discusses taking pride in your work and having a full understanding of your final product, because at the end of the day your name is attached. At 5:05, Michael talks about work ethic. At 5:57, he touches upon setting goals and to some, money being freedom as well as a measure of success. At 7:27, Michael notes that good service comes with upfront reality - being blunt and not creating a sense of false hope, while simultaneously being optimistic. At 9:05, he points out that Crown Architecture and Consulting likes to be different with the subtle things, and that Crown is always evolving based on the feedback it receives. Michael describes how he and Crown are different, given that they, like others, swim in the same direction as everyone else, but often zig-zag quite a bit up stream. At 10:18, Michael shares that “It’s hard to argue with logic and reason.” At 11:53, he advises, “I want to profitable off of the intelligent decisions I make and the value I create.” At 12:55, Michael discusses change in the real estate industry, more specifically retail and last mile industrial. At 13:51, he talks about building with flexibility in design, so buildings can evolve with changing times. At 14:11, Michael informs us of Crown’s partnership with Scott Brownrigg out of London, and Smart Shed, a new type of distribution center concept. At 16:06, he shares winning the World Architecture Foundation award for his firm’s concept of redesigning the Park Avenue medians. At 18:27, Michael explains his love for the challenge of making something profitable, and growing a “business.” At 21:16, he discusses having integrity in design and construction. Building bigger, better and more efficient! At 23:53, Michael shares his involvement in the ACE program, mentoring, and sitting on the board at Wentworth Institute of Technology. At 26:01, he takes us back to his first job in real estate, working as a project manager for a design-build firm. At 30:05, he talks about the topic of failure and his failure to successfully pitch Platform Media to MTA at 22 years old. At 33:09, Michael dives into his passion for large scale infrastructure projects. At 38:10, Michael Santora closes it out with the message of pursuing your dreams.

Athena Santora writes copy that (actually) sells for startups and small shops. She is the founder of Bevy, a courageous digital agency that builds websites for clients in the US, EU and Australia. Over the course of the last year, the company has grown to span five countries and to craft digital marketing assets of all kinds. Born in the States, Athena now splits time between her hometown of New York City and her new town of Barcelona because she can’t bear to give up residency in either one. An Ivy League graduate and lifetime learner, she is driven by the idea that intentional design and savvy sales copy can meaningfully connect people, even through a screen. On this episode of the podcast, Athena shares her approach to identifying ideal clients and pricing based on the value she provides. Learn to trust your intuition and get paid what you’re worth! Key Takeaways The pros and cons of platforms like Upwork Competing in a world economy means you may have to charge less to land projects Unless you learn a new way to present your services, you may not make enough to keep the lights on Bidding teaches you what clients are looking for and what they need to hear to buy in Writing proposals helps you understand what works and what doesn’t when it comes to pitching clients Searching open jobs allows freelancers to do market research (demand, pricing, etc.) The value-based pricing model Explore what the client is trying to accomplish Determine what reaching that goal will mean for their bottom line Charge accordingly The advantages of a value-based pricing model The freelancer has a better chance of charging appropriately It builds a relationship with the client rather than focusing on an endpoint to the project The common pricing mistakes freelancers make Getting stuck at a rate based on what other freelancers are charging Failing to realize their own value Athena’s principles of negotiating price Start from an uncomfortable place Hold strong unless you are working to land an ideal client Consider the value the client can offer you (exposure, contract length, etc.) Offer incentives to guarantee additional work Characteristics of an ideal client Like any relationship, the ideal client brings out the best in you and allows you to do your best work Ideal clients don’t take more than they give back Athena’s best advice for new freelancers If you can be proud of the work you’ve done because you trusted yourself, that will guide you in the right direction Resources Laura’s Ideal Client Blog Post & Workbook Connect with Athena Santora Website Bevy Digital
I've known Sarah since I was in grade school, and she's always been a very supportive and caring person to me as I grew up. But what I didn't see was that she was also a writer, a mother, a volunteer, and an important part of our community. She does all these things outside of the environment I was so familiar seeing her in. It's people and stories like hers that inspires me to do the things that I do. If there's one thing that I wish everyone walks away with from this episode is that, each and every person you walk by or come into contact with has a story, and you can learn something from them. Thank you all as always for listening, please share and leave the podcast a review!
