Infected Rain's Summer plans have seen them on the road pretty much since the end of June, and a handful of UK dates heralds the end of this current run. Although not for too long as the latter part of 2024 is looking pretty intense. The band's London headline show on the 29th of August had a celebratory feel to it. A celebration of Time, a celebration of the achievements following the new album's release earlier this year, and a celebration of being in a much better place, mentally and physically. Infected Rain INFECTED RAIN experienced their most successful years yet in 2022 and 2023, commencing with the release of their fifth full-length album, Ecdysis. The album garnered prime media acclaim, hundreds of thousands of streams and views, and debuted in the Top 20 on the US Current Hard Music charts - all accented by worldwide performances at major festivals and with the likes of Butcher Babies, Wednesday 13 and more. On February 9, 2024, the band will climb even higher with their multifaceted sixth album, TIME. Described by the multinational band as “an homage to every fleeting second, every heartbeat, and every breath that has led us to this moment,” TIME was once again produced, mixed and mastered by Valentin Voluta, and combines the deft talents of returning members Vidick (guitars, cover artist), Eugene Voluta (drums) and famed frontwoman Lena Scissorhands (vocals), plus introduces new member Alice Lane (bass) to the fold. INFECTED RAIN exercise their trademarks with TIME, tastefully accenting the introspective musical journey with effectively-placed progressive, electronic and even nu-metal features amid ethereal passages. First track “BECAUSE I LET YOU” bursts in with undeniable energy, boasting aggressive lyrics and Lena Scissorhands' swift, menacing delivery. Previously released first single “DYING LIGHT” marches with subterranean heaviness and rhythmic grooves beneath eerie vocals and keys, and even snaps into an EDM passage, showcasing the dynamic delivery of the band in 2024. “NEVER TO RETURN” flirts with trip-hop elements and far eastern instrumentation before the melodic ode to self-empowerment “LIGHTHOUSE” crashes in to juxtapose soft verses and intense auditory shifts. Album standout and djent driven “VIVARIUM” warns of society's fickle freedoms as Lena Scissorhands delivers some of the album's most hair-raising screams amid a haunting, ominous atmosphere, while fast-paced burners like “THE ANSWER IS YOU” and “ENMITY” flash between various EDM, synthwave and even drum and bass brushed transits amid bludgeoning rhythms. Intense “GAME OF BLAME” explores themes of hypocrisy and emotional pain delved out by those we love while boasting one of the album's most searing breakdowns, while tracks like “PANDEMONIUM” and “UNPREDICTABLE” detail the uncontrollable energy of the future and past, respectively - boasting lofty, angelic verses with hard-hitting guitars and punching drums. Italian/English-language journey “PAURA” closes out the album with a path to self-discovery - beckoning the listener to understand that we limit ourselves with our own fears, and must harness the pain to overcome. TIME ends in a state of calm with ambient finisher “A SECOND OR A THOUSAND YEARS” - drawing the curtains closed on yet another fantastic, experimental expedition by rising stars INFECTED RAIN. https://www.infectedrain.com https://label.napalmrecords.com/infectedrain https://infectedrain.bandcamp.com _ Date: 7 March 2024 Voices: Lena | Arthur Notes: recorded on a tour bus; before the gig at Gasometer Cover Photo: Interceptor Beyond _ Interceptor Beyond Podcast Website: https://www.interceptorbeyond.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/interceptorbeyond Hashtags: #interceptorbeyond #interceptorbeyondpodcast #infectedrain
Interview by Kris PetersMoldovian metal hybrid Infected Rain are currently riding the wave of global acceptance that has been 16 years in the making.Since debuting in 2008, Infected Rain have often been undervalued in an industry that too often rewards mediocrity, finding themselves caught in musical purgatory on many levels simply because they are a band almost impossible to pigeonhole or genre classify. In a world that is becoming increasingly sanitised and regulated, Infected Rain have always dared to be different. To do things their way. With a sonic intensity harnessing genres from progressive rock to electronica to nu-metal to out-and-out aggression, Infected Rain have steadfastly refused to conform but more or less forced the world to take notice with their acclaimed 2022 album Ecdysis. It was an album that broke down barriers for the band, opening them up to a new audience that were pounded into submission. With the recently released successor Time expanding on the creativity and musicianship of its predecessor, Infected Rain are finally earning the respect they so richly deserve, with festival opportunities and high-profile support slots continuing the band's upward trajectory.HEAVY caught up with vocalist Lena Scissorhands to discuss the new album."We have just released our sixth album," she smiled. "After all these years, it is quite a milestone for us. We started in 2008 in a very small country in Eastern Europe."Time was released just last Friday, so we start by asking Lena how the early reception has been."Very good so far," she nodded. "More than we could expect. Great comments, great feedback. People are loving it."We ask her to take us deeper into the musical side of Time."From the musical point of view, I think you want to talk to my musicians more," she handpassed, "because they are more the composers of the instrumental parts. When they are ready, and they have a raw version of a song or a good chunk of an idea of a song, they often send it over so I can start thinking in that direction and see what inspires me and what I could adapt to that melody. To me, it's just when I have the songs my task is to compose melody and upline lyrics I go based on how the instruments make me feel, and that's how I choose what is the direction of the song and what lyrics I'm going to apply. We have something that we introduced for the first time on this album, which is an eight-string guitar. Some of the songs are recorded for eight-string guitar, and we've never had that before. Also, we have a new bass player. Even though she joined the band after the composing stage of the album, she recorded a big part of the songs. We've already been on tour together, and it feels really great."In the full interview, Lena talks more about the songs on Time, the eclectic nature of the music and making it cohesive, her transition from harsh to clean vocals and how much work is put into her vocals, the underlying theme of the album, pressures associated with following the success of Ecdysis, Infected Rain's upcoming tour with Dragonforce and Amaranthe and more.

Listen in as we praise their innovative sound and the unapologetic way they break the mold, embracing a wide array of influences to create something truly unique. Our discussion goes beyond the notes and lyrics, venturing into the essence of self-expression and the courage it takes to defy the constraints of societal norms. Whether it's the art of music or the art of living, we underline the significance of being genuine, making mistakes, and constantly evolving. In this riveting chat, we also pull back the curtain on the exhilarating yet daunting world of live performances, especially at festivals where bands like Infected Rain face the unpredictability of weather, technical hiccups, and the immense pressure to meet fan expectations. The conversation sheds light on the resilience and adaptability required by artists in these high-stakes environments, reminding listeners not to hastily judge a band by one performance alone. As the episode draws to a close, we express our gratitude to Infected Rain for their contributions to the music world and for sharing their invaluable insights with us, making this a memorable day on W4CY Radio. EPISODE CHAPTERS WITH FULL SUMMARIES (0:00:05) - The Adventures of Pipeman (16 Minutes) This chapter kicks off with a high-energy introduction to the band Infected Rain and their frontwoman, praising their unique and experimental approach to metal music. I express admiration for the band's refusal to adhere to a specific formula, celebrating their diverse musical influences and their commitment to creativity over conformity. The discussion then turns to a broader reflection on the importance of being true to oneself, both in art and in life, touching on societal norms and the unnecessary constraints they can impose. The frontwoman echoes these sentiments, advocating for genuine self-expression and the freedom to blend genres and ideas without fear of judgment. We agree that self-improvement and self-awareness are key, and that making mistakes is a natural part of the creative process. The conversation wraps up with a shared understanding that as artists and individuals, constantly reviewing and refining our work and actions is crucial to growth and authenticity. (0:15:45) - The Challenges of Performing at Festivals (12 Minutes) This chapter addresses the intense pressures and unpredictability bands face during live performances, particularly at festivals. We explore the added stress of not having your own sound crew, the havoc weather can wreak on equipment as seen with Nine Inch Nails at Welcome to Rockville, and the heightened anxiety of potentially disappointing fans. The conversation also covers the technical difficulties performers can encounter, such as malfunctioning in-ear monitors, and how these issues not only disrupt the performance but also significantly affect the musicians' mood and delivery on stage. Additionally, we touch on the dependency on both local and touring crews and the challenges that arise when there's a lack of understanding or control over one's equipment. Through these topics, we shed light on the complexities of live performances and the resilience artists must have in the face of such challenges. (0:27:36) - Don't Judge a Band by One Show (1 Minutes) This chapter, we explore the idea that live performances by bands should not be hastily judged based on just a few shows, as the quality often depends on many factors out of the musicians' control. I underscore the importance of giving artists multiple chances to showcase their talent live, highlighting that the true essence of a band's ability can be masked by variables they can't always manage. Following our Nightmare on Elm Street review series, we managed to intentionally review the only other film that features a man with knives for hands. Also we watched Beetlejuice. Both feel ever so slightly underappreciated. Big love to Burton. Eating Soup Alone is a bi-weekly podcast hosted by Christopher Crumley and co-hosted by Nick Johnson. My biggest motivation has always been love.-Gilda Radner Penguin Rep Theatre, under the leadership of founding artistic director Joe Brancato and executive director Andrew M. Horn, presents the world premiere of Gene & Gilda by Cary Gitter, directed by Mr. Brancato, from August 4 through August 27 in Stony Point, New York. Beloved entertainers Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner come to vivid life in a hilarious and heartfelt new play from Penguin playwright-in-residence Gitter, author of The Sabbath Girl and The Virtuous Life of Joseph Andrews, which were previously presented at Penguin. Described by Mr. Brancato as an “intimate portrait of two comic legends in love -- and the lives they led beyond the laughter,” the play follows the famous couple from their first meeting through their personal and professional ups and downs, all the way to their poignant farewell. The cast under Mr. Brancato's direction includes Jordan Kai Burnett as Gilda and Jonathan Randell Silver as Gene. The production is designed by Christopher Fleming (set), Gregory Gale (costumes), Jamie Roderick (lights), Joel Abbott (sound), and Buffy Cardoza (props). Michael Palmer is production stage manager. My special guest to kick off this week is Jordan Kai Burnett! Jordan Kai Burnett recently made her Las Vegas debut starring as the Emcee for Channing Tatum's Magic Mike Live which played at both the Hard Rock and legendary Sahara Hotel & Casino. She was featured in the same role for Finding Magic Mike on HBOMAX. She starred opposite Jonah Platt in the West Coast premiere of the musical Found with the IAMA Theater Company at the Los Angeles Theatre Center, directed by Tony Nominee Moritz Von Stuelpnagel. She originated the role as ‘Scissorhands' in the Los Angeles hit “Scissorhands: the musical," created by Bradley Bredeweg.
Today's show features one of our favorite films of all time, the 1992 Tim Burton classic BATMAN RETURNS, which celebrates its 30th anniversary on June 16, 2022.When Batman's 1989 theatrical run ended, it left theaters with a haul of $251M domestically, $411M worldwide, and was the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time. Naturally, Warner Bros wanted to get to work on a sequel as quickly as possible. However, Batman was the largest studio production Tim Burton had ever done at the time, and he was burned out. Instead of running right into production on a second Batman movie, Burton opted to make a smaller and more personal film for 20th Century Fox called Edward Scissorhands. Following the end of production for Scissorhands, Warner was already in production on the next Batman and wanted to ramp up the villainy by having two villains for the sequel. Turning to screenwriter Sam Hamm who offered a story that focused on the villains Catwoman and The Penguin. Warner Bros then offered Burton the option of either directing another Batman or a Beetlejuice sequel. Ultimately, Burton decided on Batman because he was a fan of “animal people,” and the sequel provided an opportunity to do the kind of Batman story he loved as a kid. The rest is movie-making history. In this show, we do more than a movie review by delving into the lives of the cast and crew, fan theories, trivia, scene breakdowns, and anything related to the film itself. Needless to say, our shows are a little longer than your average movie review show, but we can assure you that our shows are jam packed with entertaining and interesting discussions. On the latest RaboResearch Agri Commodities podcast, Carlos Mera and Michael Magdovitz discuss the October WASDE report. Poor 2022/23 US grain and oilseed harvests are forcing the USDA to become increasingly adept with scissors. As it cuts production, the USDA must increasingly (and tragically) cut demand to prevent ending stockpiles from disappearing. Relative to expectations, the report was bearish on corn and bullish on soy, and it resulted in funds partially unwinding their corn/soy spread. The prime takeaway is that supply inflation is being increasingly controlled by weak, recession-linked demand.

Tim Burton's "Edward Scissorhands" is a cult classic that even goths and nerds can be at peace while watching this film but it is much more than a crowd-pleaser, it's a film that gives you a perspective of looking beyond the surface and makes you scratch through it with visuals, music and production design overall. Burton shows you a different world that you wouldn't living in at least for a day. I briefly explain the synergy of music and editing in this film, how colors work to give you a sense of what kind of characters you're looking in instant contrast of their "true colors". Teenagers are assholes especially in high school and there's that theme of acceptance that layers through the film's overall theme. It's a film where Burton displays his best work and there a lot of wide shots that get your attention that helps to that credit.
Attention fans of 'Edward Scissorhands'! The house where the movie was filmed is for sale in Florida. Listen to "Friday Fabulous Florida" to hear what movie memorabilia comes with the house. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week on the Loaded Radio Podcast we are joined by INFECTED RAIN vocalist Lena Scissorhands to discuss the band's latest release “Ecdysis” which arrives on January 7. Currently signed to Napalm Records, INFECTED RAIN is a Moldovan heavy metal band, formed in 2008 in Chișinău. The band now have five studio albums under their belts and show no signs of stopping, delivering a beautifully brutal bludgeoning of pounding riffs coupled by Lena's incredibly diverse vocal abilities. Those who haven't yet heard about the band soon will as they continue to be a burgeoning powerhouse of beauty and vicious groove who have made their presence known. In the interview Lena discusses how she "accidentally" started out as a singer, the creative process within the group and much more. And as always in the second portion of the podcast, Loaded Radio's Johnny Rude joins us from Las Vegas, Nevada to talk about the week that was in hard rock and metal news.
Lena, vocalist of Infected Rain, joins me as we discussed some of the bigger lyrical themes of their upcoming record, which gave way to us talking more about mental health and our journeys through therapy and coming out the other side better equipped to handle life. We talk about Lena and the band being from Moldova and how that was trying to be in a metal band in an area that wasn't the most supportive of the arts due to its roots firmly in the old way of life, and how the band was able to overcome that obstacle. We also get into some tattoo talk, her service animal and much more in this intimate chat.
