Unpopular opinion. But this is your reminder - ask for what you want.
Skipping Christmas by John Grisham Andy and Dani talk about leaving Christmas behind. Well everyone… we still haven't found a good holiday book… but was this worse than Mr. Dickens and his Carol? It might just be. Also what's wrong with wanting to take a cruise over Christmas? Dani is in fact an idiot.

Welcome to our 22nd episode in the monthly book discussion series hosted by Marisa Serafini (@serafinitv) and myself, Phil Svitek. If books are your passion, you've come to the right place! In this episode, we delve into John Grisham's Skipping Christmas, where it imagines a year without Christmas. No crowded malls, no corny office parties, no fruitcakes, no unwanted presents. That's just what Luther and Nora Krank have in mind when they decide that, just this once, they'll skip the holiday altogether. Theirs will be the only house on Hemlock Street without a rooftop Frosty, they won't be hosting their annual Christmas Eve bash, they aren't even going to have a tree. They won't need one, because come December 25 they're setting sail on a Caribbean cruise. But as this weary couple is about to discover, skipping Christmas brings enormous consequences—and isn't half as easy as they'd imagined. Join the conversation! Share your thoughts, queries, and viewpoints in the comments or connect with Marisa (@serafinitv) and me on social media. In our upcoming discussion, we'll explore Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. Book Vs. Movie Christmas With the KranksYes, the 2004 movie is based on a book! The Margos have more holiday spirit than Luther & Nora Krank, the main characters of the John Grisham novel Skipping Christmas. Luther & Nora normally go all out during the holidays in equal zeal with their neighbors, who seem to think Christmas celebrations are THE most important thing in the world. (One Margo liked the movie more than the other!)But with their daughter spending the holidays in Peru for the Peace Corps, they decide to forgo decadent spending and take a vacation on a cruise instead. Mayhem ensues. The movie (titled Christmas With the Kranks) stars Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis as Luther & Nora Krankd and even though the film has been out for 15 years now--neither Margo has seen it before! "There's nothing so powerful as an idea who's time has come." — Jim Rohn Sometimes ideas can feel like little mosquitos who are pesky and want a place to land and suck your blood. At least, that's how I feel some days. I can't possibly carry out all of the ideas that pop into my mind or give them a place to live. BUT….in the end, ideas can be our friends. We just have to learn how to nurture, prioritize and categorize them. When you see Portraits of White, you'll be witnessing the power of an idea. A snowy day led to the idea for the title song, Portraits of White. One single manger scene in a Christmas shop in 1999 sparked the idea for the song Take Another Look. That song took me down a path of "skipping Christmas" that year so I could pay attention to the holiday sadness I often felt in December. Skipping Christmas opened up space for me to start expressing my feelings through songwriting. Those seeds of songs started me thinking about doing a Christmas album. The album provided more ideas - how about a show where we "hear" and "see" the music? It came to pass in 2014 and it will again this year! Do you have your tickets to see this show yet? Here are 5 steps that Jim Rohn suggests for turning nothing into something: 1) Start with ideas and imagination - they aren't tangible, but they are almost real. 2) Believe that what you imagine is possible for you. Two types of testimonials can provide inspiration for us: "If I can do it, you can do it." (Someone else's story) "If I did it once, I can do it again." (Our own story) 3) Go to work and make it real - make it tangible. 4) It takes the disciplined activity to make it reality. 5) Appreciate the discipline it takes to follow through and see it happen.
Welcome to The Same Page! Today I am settling in with a Christmas sweater, an eggnog, and a fun holiday read! As we prepare to move into a new year, we are reminded of how short life is and how vitally important it is that we love each other deeply every day. Our words and our actions display what we believe in our hearts.

Christmas Eve Service We know there was no room at the inn. But what if there were no shepherds keeping their watch at night, no angels singing, no Mary, no Joseph, no manger scene? What if we just skipped Christmas this year? What would you miss?

It's a pretty audacious claim that Jesus is the Song of God. How we celebrate Christmas declares what we really believe about who Jesus was and who Jesus is. If Jesus had never come, we would never have known who God really is. Skipping Christmas may seem easier in the short-term, but we miss everything when we do.

God wanted to speak to us in a way that we could really understand, maybe for the very first time. Music speaks to us in very powerful ways. Many of us have a soundtrack of our life transitional moments -- a major sporting event, graduation, wedding day, birth of a child, the death of a loved one. If we skip Christmas, then we miss out on the soundtrack of Jesus.

Book Vs Movie Christmas With the Kranks Yes, the 2004 movie is based on a book! The Margos have more holiday spirit than Luther & Nora Krank, the main characters of the John Grisham novel Skipping Christmas. Luther & Nora normally go all out during the holidays in equal zeal with their neighbors who seem to think Christmas celebrations are THE most important thing in the world. (One Margo liked the movie more than the other!) But with their daughter spending the holidays in Peru for the Peace Corps, they decide to forgo decadent spending and take a vacation on a cruise instead. Mayhem ensues. The movie (titled Christmas With the Kranks) stars Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis as Luther & Nora Krankd and even though the film has been out for 15 years now--neither Margo has seen it before! So between book & movie--which did we like better? Have a listen to find out! In this ep the Margos discuss: John Grisham’s incredible life story and success in publishing The basic differences between the book & movie. The cast of the movie including Dan Aykroyd (Vic Frohmeyer,) M. Emmet Walsh (Walt Scheel,) Cheech Martin (Officer Salino,) Jake Busey (Officer Treen,) Felicity Huffman (Merry,) Caroline Rhea (Candi,) and Tom Poston (Father Zabriske.) There is one reason God sent Jesus into this world. It's not for a cute manger scene story. It's not about the tree, decorations, and presents. Sometimes we skip Christmas because of all the things we have made it to be -- things that have nothing to do with why Jesus came in the first place.

Happy Holidays. John Grishom departs from his legal classics to share a great Christmas story. We hope you enjoy!
Yup, you read that right, I'm skipping Christmas. Sometimes, situations that we're put in cause us to go into a sense of "emotion overload" that sometimes require some unwinding time, and a "soft reset." We're also discussing impulsive behaviors, and specifically WHY some people feel the need to make impulsive "on the fly" decisions. If you know someone like this, rather than judging their impulsive behaviors, and rather than just simply "accepting" them, try to understand the deeper reasons for that behavior. I'll tell you about mine... Have a happy and SAFE holiday season, and I'll talk to you in 2019.
When the kids get so busy with their social lives - do you let them skip Christmas traditions?? Murphy & Jodi are in that spot.

The Shepherds were ready to go when God showed up. They left everything behind. You've got to lean into God's plan.
This week, the elves kick off Tis the Podcast's inaugural Literary Month with 2004's Christmas with the Kranks, based on the 2001 John Grisham best-seller, Skipping Christmas. We discuss several Christmas themes, including the idea of skipping Christmas all together (spoiler alert, all the elves think this is a terrible idea). Grab your favorite Yuletide drink, turn the AC way up, and ring in the 'ber months with your favorite elves.
