Just like the Cobblers, Charles, Danny and Chessie are back to talk all things Northampton Town as a new year dawns on the world. On this week's episode: Swindon Town 5-2 Northampton TownI think it's fair to say that none of us saw that result coming. Especially after John Guthrie put the Cobblers ahead on 50 minutes. Should we be embarrassed by the performance and ultimately, the result though? Did the enforced winter break over Christmas do the Cobblers more harm than good? Just what do we take away from this game? Covid SituationWith 13 games called off in EFL this weekend - 4 in League 2 alone - we ask whether the 5 sub rule be allowed again and discuss the latest news regarding https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59830127 (EFL clubs no longer testing on match days). PostbagIs it ok to have a second team? That's the question posed to us this week by Spurs fan - and Cobblers follower - Brett Nurse. Brett also asks about home game rituals that we have, places to go pre-match, that sort of thing. Chessie's suggestion of finding an old scarf from the 80's might not quite fit the bill... We've also had a question of ticket price increases from Richard Dewhirst. Rich noticed that Swindon have increased their match ticket price to £35 for this Friday's FA Cup 3rd round tie with Manchester City. He wonders whether we would be happy paying that amount for a one off game against the best team in the country. NTFC WomenAn away game at Oughtibridge War Memorial kickstarted NTFC Women's 2022, who were 2-0 down at half time. Thankfully, goals from Charlie Cooper, Bianca Luttman and an Alex Dicks brace, secured a magnificent turnaround as the Cobblers won 4-2 to remain top of the league. The Cobblers are now 4 points clear with two games in hand. Go on the Cobblers! Join them for an hour of generally uninformed, irrelevant chat - where they discuss topics such as being an accidental Peeping Tom, sleeping in the same room as Mother Teresa, and getting shouted at by Santa. Stephen is an openly gay, cruise ship magician - and is proud to be at the front of that much underrepresented part of society. He is often heard regaling anecdotes such as how he found himself as a performer on a swingers cruise, his lowest life moment being with Paul Daniel's son at a patisserie in Brazil, and how he tried to blend in at an Australian dive bar. In hindsight, the floral shirt and exposed ankles were a mistake. Ryan has been Stephen's best friend since they first met at 11 years old and shared a communal love for the anecdote. He is the marketing manager for an afternoon tea company, is yet to attend a none catastrophic yoga class, and once got heckled by an eleven year old for being too scared to go on a water slide. He's also openly hetero, although his constant praise of ABBA could lead you to believe otherwise. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dodgingdeath/message

A traditional Christmas dinner is pretty much a pimped-up roast, however with all the trimmings and many of us having different takes, twists and dietary requirements it can seem like a huge challenge. It turns out 47% of UK adults can't cook a full Christmas dinner from scratch. The reasons behind this, include 33% saying they've never been taught how and the same amount stating they don't have the space or equipment, according to research by Co-op.Cranberry sauce tops the list of items Brits claim to be the least likely they can cook from scratch, followed by:1. Cranberry sauce (81%)2. Bread Sauce (73%)3. Christmas Pudding (73%)4. Mince Pies (64%)5. Pigs in Blankets (50%)6. Parsnips (49%)7. Gravy (44%)8. Brussel Sprouts (43%)9. Roast Turkey (40%)10. Roast potatoes (33%)As a result, 34% don't plan to cook a Christmas dinner this year.Instead of slicing and dicing, 55% confess they'll rely on others to cook for them instead, 15% will forego the dinner entirely and 8% plan to eat at a pub or restaurant. However, all is not lost as 41% say next year they want to learn how to cook a full Xmas dinner from scratch! So, what is the best way to learn? Being taught by an expert or someone who has lots of experience and learning close to where you live are the preferred methods to gain these cooking skills.20% would want face to face sessions as opposed to virtual learning and 18% want to learn from someone like themselves.Perhaps due to a lack of culinary skills, 35% of Brits say they expect to waste food this Christmas.Brussel Sprouts, turkey and Christmas cake are the most likely items to go to waste followed by bread sauce, potatoes and Christmas Pudding.Brits want for reducing food waste is increasing as now 67% say they would find advice on how to reduce what they throw away helpful.Co-op is committing to doubling its network of community fridges in partnership with environmental charity Hubbub, funding a further 250 fridges, which will save a total of 34 million meals from going to waste annually across the network of 500 fridges. To encourage Brits to get in the kitchen and rustle up a Christmas Dinner next year, TV Chef Lesley Waters is on hand to give her tips and tricks for cooking from scratch.Alongside Lesley is Liam Sweeney, Hubbub's Creative Partner who can tell us more about the charity's partnership with Co-op and the community fridges. Both Liam and Lesley are also on hand to help guide us through reducing food wastage this festive season. Heaped up on the floor, to form a kind of throne, were turkeys, geese, game, poultry, brawn, great joints of meat, sucking-pigs, long wreaths of sausages, mince-pies, plum-puddings, barrels of oysters, red-hot chestnuts, cherry-cheeked apples, juicy oranges, luscious pears, immense twelfth-cakes, and seething bowls of punch, that made the chamber dim with their delicious steam. How the devil are you? I hope you're having a good week. So this week I have on the podcast, the very lovely Caroline from Hunkington House Kitchen. Caroline welcome to the podcast.   Caroline: Hi Teresa. How are you?   Teresa: I am good. Really good. I think I've just realized I've got lipstick on my, uh, on my face, but other than that, I'm good. So very professional here at, uh, Teresa Heath-Wareing Limited. Um, Caroline, please tell my audience who you are, what you do and how you got to doing the business that you do today.   Caroline: Okay. So first of all, thank you so much for having me. I am so excited.   Teresa: It's my pleasure. My pleasure.   Caroline: So, um, I'm Caroline. I live on the outskirts of shoe spray and say, I'm very proud owner of Huntington House Kitchen. I started this business full-time last March. So March, 2019, after taking redundancy from a very high-level HR job. Uh, we moved to Hunkington house in 2018. And I've always got a vision of, um, doing classes and wanted to do wedding cakes. And a kitchen is just phenomenal. So, because I wanted to do, um, uh, classes and I wanted to, um, do more than just cakes. I wanted it to be Hunkington house kitchen, um, and just think it. It works on a side.   I'm just absolutely loving it.   Teresa: So did you, cause you said you came from HR, so were you good at baking? cooking? Was it like how, how did that, was it always a thing that you were going to do that? Or how did that come about?   Caroline: I suppose it was a dream. If I'm totally honest. Loved, I've always loved baking. Um, if, uh, ever I had to go see anybody or go to work, it's always cupcakes.   Just cupcakes are my thing. Um, but yeah, always spoke with my Nan. My mum used to do wedding catering when we were little. So I used to watch her. Um, my nephews will kill me for saying it, but they always used to make fairy cakes with me. Um, they're in their twenties now and I can't, they weren't doing that, but yeah, just absolutely loved it.   But I've been for years being on classes of baked, you know, with people like John Whaite from the Bake Off. Um, I baked with him and I had to go back again cause I loved it so much, but I've been on loads and loads of classes, um, applied for bake-off and got through fine final 70 a few...

Today we will be exploring our third, Christmas topic, my favourite, Christmas food. So let's get started...Many countries have their own special ways of celebrating Christmas, all usually concerning special types of food. As the world globalises we have begun to create new traditions and to share old ones. Nevertheless, there are a few special dishes that will almost certainly remain forever British. There are many, but we will be only exploring three today. Ok so the first is Figgy Pudding F-I-G-G-Y P-U-D-D-I-N-G or also known as christmas pudding which is a dessert often served after a large Christmas meal. It is made months or sometimes a year in advance of serving. It contains fruit, alcohol and suet.Today's Christmas pudding is derived from "frumenty" created in medieval England in the 14th Century. It was a porridge-like mixture of beef, mutton, dried fruits, wines and spices; no surprise it is not so popular today. Nowadays the desert is usually served with a decorative sprig of holly on the top of the pudding as a reminder of Jesus' Crown of Thorns that he wore when he was killed. Brandy or another alcoholic drink is poured over the pudding and set alight at the table creating a beautiful fire.Historically this is said to represent Jesus' love and power. However even non religious brits are known to follow this serving tradition.Ok so we brits have many other special deserts, another are mince pies M-I-N-C-E P-I-E-S. A mince pie is a small British fruit-based sweet pie traditionally served during the Christmas season. Its ingredients are traceable to the 13th century, when returning European crusaders brought with them Middle Eastern recipes containing meats, fruits and spices. Now it's a popular treat during Christmas. Historically they contained actual meat but nowadays we only use sweet ingredients- I promise you a cup of mulled wine, which is warm spiced wine and a mince pie and is an absolutely delicious Christmas tradition. The last of the special Christmas dishes I want to tell you about are pigs in blankets, my absolute favorite! And yes their name describes them perfectly, they contain pork! Both the USA and the UK have them, both with different interpretations. In the USA , pigs in blankets are small sausages wrapped in croissant rolls. In the UK however, the ‘blanket' is bacon and they are the perfect match with a roast turkey and roasted potatoes. So have you tried any of these traditional foods? Or are you planning on doing so soon? Let us know! That's our episode of the day, remember to tune into our final Christmas episode on Wednesday, where we will be exploring Christmas day traditions. You can find us on our website https://theslangpodcast.com and from there you can see our transcript and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and many more apps.
