KOLR 10 sports reporter/anchor Dan Lindblad and news/digital producer Bryce Derrickson are back. In episode 15 the podcasting duo discusses the Springfield Carindals starting their season and recapping the Chiefs' draft. Also, they create the names for their own minor league teams.
As we move ahead to the start of the minor league baseball season, we take a few minutes to chat with the general manager of the Springfield Cardinals Dan Reiter on what to expect at Hammons Field this summer.
He began his professional career in 2007, playing for the Johnson City Cardinals, hitting .279 in 36 games. In 2008, he played for the Quad Cities River Bandits, hitting .238 with 13 stolen bases in 95 games. He played for the Palm Beach Cardinals in 2009, hitting .283 with 21 stolen bases and 16 triples in 122 games. He split 2010 between the Springfield Cardinals (75 games) and Memphis Redbirds (37 games), hitting a combined .283 with 14 stolen bases in 112 games. On September 6, 2011, Chambers was called up to play for the St. Louis Cardinals. On September 16, 2011, during his second major league at-bat, Chambers earned his first Major League hit which brought in the go ahead runs for the Cardinals to beat the Phillies. Chambers, who had been brought in as a defensive sub for Lance Berkman attempted an inside the park home run, but was tagged out at the plate. Nevertheless, he was credited with a triple off of Michael Schwimer who had walked Albert Pujols in order to get to Chambers. Chambers was also noted for his contributions off the field to help spur the Cardinals on during their quest to win the Wild Card playoff berth. With the Cardinals' playoff hopes looking much in doubt prior to the bottom of the ninth inning during their game on September 24, 2011 against arch-rival Chicago Cubs, Chambers was shown on the WGN television broadcast of the game taking it upon himself to encourage and excite the hometown fans to join him in cheering for the team prior to the start of the inning.[3] Incredibly, the Cardinals began to rally, and Chambers himself was then inserted into the game as a pinch-runner, where he proceeded to score the winning run during a wild pitch.[4] That down-to-the wire win was one of many that month that helped the Cardinals earn their playoff berth. On October 28, 2011 Adron Chambers was added to the St. Louis Cardinals World Series roster as an emergency replacement for the injured Matt Holliday before game 7 of the 2011 World Series against the Texas Rangers. After splitting time between St. Louis and the team's minor league system in 2012 and 2013, Chambers was out-righted off the Cardinals roster on November 5, 2013 and elected free agency. In 2013, he had four hits in 26 at bats with St. Louis. He was kept on the Cardinals active roster through the 2013 National League Divisional Series and the 2013 National League Championship Series. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ernest-tate/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ernest-tate/support

My thanks to my co-host, Tommy Burnett (my dad)-always enjoy his stories! We also had Springfield Cardinals Manager Joe Kruzel and enjoyed listening to his advice as a dad and what his take is on the Springfield Cardinals organization and how he plans to advance it. Also, in studio the amazing dad of four, Ed Cleeton, the wonderful dad and coach of his sons, Ryan Schafittzel, and the fantastic father of my children, Scott Hopkins. We also congratulated my daughter Hailey Jo on her college graduation and wished her Bon Voyage as she takes off to explore Europe for a year!

SO UNCOMFORTABLE!!
Coach Nick Derba is the Head Baseball Coach at the University of Maine. Derba served as interim head coach at UMaine during the 2016-17, guiding UMaine to its highest win total in four years (25). In America East Championship play, Derba led the Black Bears to four straight wins, earning a berth in the title game. The impressive stretch run marked the first time since 2013 that UMaine appeared in the league championship. Derba also mentored a pair of all-conference selections and two America East all-rookie team members. Derba was promoted to associate head coach in 2015. During his first three seasons at UMaine, he served as the team's recruiting and summer camp coordinator. He also was directly involved in UMaine baseball's community outreach efforts, including fundraising for the Vs. Cancer Foundation, and team visits to Eastern Maine Medical Center, Old Town YMCA and local schools. Prior to joining the UMaine community, Derba was the hitting and catchers coach for the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League in summer 2013 — the same team that he played for from 2004-06. During the 2012 season, he was a volunteer at Manhattan College after working with the Jasper catchers in the 2010 and 2011 off-seasons. In the 2007 Major League Draft, the St. Louis Cardinals selected Derba in the 31st round. He played six years in the Cardinal system, advancing as high as AAA Memphis (PCL). In 2012, he was a member of the Texas League champion Springfield Cardinals. From 2008-12, Derba spent significant time in the Cardinals Major League spring training camp. After the 2012 season, he retired to pursue a coaching career. Derba had a highly decorated playing career at Manhattan College, where he was honored as a three-time All-MAAC first team catcher. He was the only three-year captain in Manhattan baseball history and still ranks among the school's all-time leaders in career home runs, hits, runs scored, games played and RBIs.

We were out last week while we prepared for the debut of the Kansas City Baseball Vault but came back with plenty to talk about, including Danny Duffy's injury and his potential replacements in the rotation. We all figure he'll see DL time (and at time of the episode's upload no announcement had been made by the team), and we discussed the Royals injury problems this year and how it impacts the rest of the year. The team's been playing better, though, so we brought up the possibility of a resurgence. Much of the episode focused on two different trips to Northwest Arkansas to see the Naturals. Troy saw them a few weeks ago and Fake Ned went down for the weekend and, wouldn't you know it, ran into controversy. You may have seen the video on Youtube of Springfield Cardinals manager Mike Shildt getting ejected and tossing his helmet in frustration. It hit an umpire, though it was deemed inadvertent. He gave his side in an apologetic interview. There's also an interview with Naturals GM Eric Edelstein that includes an interesting tale about the Glass family. We announced our guests for Thursday's KC Baseball Vault - "Doc" Edwards, formerly of the Kansas City A's and Baseball Prospectus and ESPN writer and podcaster Kevin Goldstein. The Kansas City Baseball Vault will be on ESPN 1510 AM and 1510.com Thursday evening from 6-7 central time.
