Tal Wilkenfeld's sophomore record Love Remains has been out since mid March, and shame on you if you haven't heard it. Even more shameful probably is, is if you've never heard of this absolute prodigious woman who has played bass for the likes of Herbie Hancock and Jeff Beck. Her career has already been a fairy tale for anyone into classic rock, and music more generally. She counts people like Jackson Browne, Benmont Tench, as friends, which in and of itself is so random. She has also sat in with the Allman Brothers (which we'll get to when we chat with with Tal), and Bob Weir and Wolf Brothers and so many others. But what makes her even more outstanding, then just her talent at bass is her ability as a songwriter and singer. We've been trying to get in touch with Tal for quite some time, because we are intrigued by her story and talent. You can learn more about Tal Wilkenfeld talwilkenfeld.com but seriously, take the time to do a search on youtube for some unreal performances.  Show Notes:   First Song: 00:55 - Corner Painter Interview Begins: 4:59 Extro Song: 42:29 - Pieces Of Me See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The word prodigy gets thrown around a lot, but if Tal Wilkenfeld isn't one then the word has no meaning. Tal tells Marc how she never even saw a person play guitar until she was 14 years old. Thanks to encouragement from her grandfather, she started playing as a teenager and immediately stunned professional musicians with her natural talents. Tal explains how her career took off in part because of a viral video of her bass solo in a Jeff Beck concert, how she wound up playing with artists like Herbie Hancock, Prince, and Mick Jagger, and why she often didn't know who these famous people were as they introduced themselves to her. This episode is sponsored by What We Do in the Shadows on FX, Squarespace, and Stay Free: The Story of the Clash on Spotify. OWEN BARRY just did a string of arena shows opening for the Who as guitarist for bassist extraordinaire Tal Wilkenfeld. He's also performed with Jackson Browne, his original band, Purple Melon, and others. For this interview/jam with host Jude Gold, Owen not only brought in three custom guitars and a vast pedalboard, he even brought a Dumble Overdrive Special amplifier. Wow. That's like bringing a unicorn to a kid's birthday party. Plus, as you'll hear in the first minute, he's a great guitarist.

Roger Sadowsky is very clear that he never wanted his business to feel like a factory. The world in which he builds his instruments should feel more like a workshop than anything else. Wandering through his shop, past the several workstations occupied by his master builders, it's clear that he has succeeded. Since striking out on his own in 1979, Roger has built a loyal and dedicated following who not only seek out and swear by his instruments, but also look to Roger for his expertise and care in making their instrument the best it can be. Marcus Miller, Ben Mckee, Walter becker, John Abercrombie, Willie Weeks, Will lee, Jason Newsted, Tal Wilkenfeld, Darryl Jones, and Verdine White. Those are just a few of the players listed as Sadowsky artists. I had a the great pleasure of sitting with Roger in his showroom in Brooklyn, and hearing about his incredible journey from his early days apprenticing with luthier Augie LoPrinzi, and the path that has lead to the legendary “Sadowsky Sound."
