Teigan was only 9-months-old when she was taken away from her mother in December 2019. Brittany was permitted 1-hour/week with Teigan and when the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020, Brittany's visits became virtual visits with her beautiful, infant daughter. By spring/summer 2020, the virtual visits ceased. No criminal nor civil charges have ever been filed against Brittany. However, the state of Florida found it justifiable to grant an expedited request to terminate Brittany's parental rights to Teigan. December 2021 will mark two LONG years since Brittany has had custody of Teigan or spent any meaningful amount of time with her always smiling, bubbly daughter. Recycling facility workers found Teigan's body in a dumpster the next morning.Thursday marked the 12th anniversary of Teigan's death. In his honor this year, Garraway said she wanted to march for all lost lives. In part, to share her grief around the annual reminder.“We cannot let this momentum die down because they are banking on it,” said Garraway to the gathered crowd. “The momentum has to be just as strong as when they kill somebody months down the line, years down the line.”Garraway started Families Supporting Families Against Police Violence to support others in her position. Now, she says she wants to prevent others from joining their ranks.“Demetrius Hill, Marcus Golden, Cordale Handy, Hardel Sherrell, Paul Castaway, Fong Lee, Kobe Haisler, Philando Castile, Jamar Clark…[they] cannot afford for us to be quiet,” said Garraway. “The momentum has to keep going. They've done enough damage.”The families marched Saturday with over 100 people and a 30+ car caravan from the Saint Paul Police Department in Midway to the state capitol. Garraway says later this month, they are taking their protest to the U.S. capitol.

You can hear Teigan’s first birth story in episode 100 but today we talk about her recent twin birth with babies Violet and Audrey. Conceived via IVF, Teigan’s embryo split in two and at her first dating scan she discovered she was pregnant with twins. After being warned of the complications of identical MCDA twins (two amniotic sacs but a shared placenta), her pregnancy was relatively straight-forward and after being induced at 36weeks, she delivered both girls vaginally with an epidural.

Since 2018, she has been hiding an autoimmune disease (basically, it's when the immune system attacks the body). In 2018, she was diagnosed with Crohn's but it was only in late February that she announced her battle on social media. Around the 12 week gestation period, a baby's developing abdominal contents get sealed in their belly and a belly button forms. In rare cases, the organs get trapped in the umbilical chord on the outside of the baby's abdomen in a sac. 13 weeks into her pregnancy, Teresa and her husband Michael discovered that their daughter Teigan was one of these rare cases. On today's episode, Teresa traces her pregnancy and birth journey after her daughter was diagnosed with an omphalocele and shares how she kept her head above water during their 7 1/2 month NICU stay.⁣ ⁣

In the control room a young man in a white lab coat flicked his eyes across a bevy of monitors, sweat pouring from his brow. His superior was crouched over him studying the same images. Suddenly the young man's eyes snapped wide and he shouted into his headset. “The readings, they’re off the chart! it’s a code yello— no! It's a code red news! Code red news!” A second after the announcement was made the klaxons throughout the building cried out in echo like a wounded animal at the bottom of a well, vrrt! vrrt! vrrt! vrrt! With each burst of sound came fresh flashes of hell as the red signal lights mounted on the walls of the complex winked crimson. The entire staff of the WTFD organization was in frantic motion: ensigns and marshalls, captains and cadets, bolted through and across corridors and briefing rooms as if hell were on their heels and perhaps this time, it was. During the commotion a man stood in the quiet of the hospital wing. He was on the verge of tears. Though it may have been chaos everywhere else, that was out there. Out there where the hell-lights, the alarms and the shouts of orders by red faced men and women meant something to somebody, but in here —none of that mattered not to him. So he stood. He stood and watched a hot woman with pink hair sleep soundly in one of the hospital beds in front of him. Bandages covered both her arms, the crown of her head and her left eye. She was attached to an IV that dripped at a rate as steady and strong as the beeps from the ECG machine nearby. “Jack…” Said a voice suddenly behind the man. “If you won’t handle the news...Cait will.” Still watching Cait, the hot woman with pink hair, as she rested bruised and battered, the tears Jack held were left to fall and his hands curled into fists. “You son of a bitch…” He said through clenched teeth. “It’s a code red Jack..” warned the voice. “YOU SON OF A BITCH” screamed Jack and then there was silence. Just the beeping of the machines and the muted cries of danger outside. “Will you do it?” returned the voice, patient and as cold as a clear harvest. Jack hated that voice, all his life he had hated it so very deeply.
