I was able to sit down and chat with Shannon Wilson from the Dayton/Cincinnati, OH based band, Bandages, to chat about their new S/T record and single, "Perfect Hit" featuring Joe Gittleman from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. They are definitely in the rock and punk spectrum but don't fall in any particular sub-genre nor try to align to any specific sound. I personally love that about this band. If you've been paying attention to the politics in the United States of America at all, you'll clearly understand what "Perfect Hit" is all about, intuitively. That said, Shannon and I had a great conversation about their band, politics, health care, and all the good things they have in front of them. You can keep up with them at:Bandages:https://www.instagram.com/bandages_music/https://www.bandagesmerch.comhttps://bandages1.bandcamp.com/Thank you for your continued support!Brett JohnsonHost of B-Side Breakdownhttps://www.instagram.com/bsidebreakdownhttps://www.instagram.com/threecrowsclubhttps://www.instagram.com/brettjamesjohnsonhttps://linktr.ee/brettjohnson#Bandages #PerfectHit #ShannonWilson #JoelGittleman #MightyMightyBosstones #bsidebreakdown #threecrowsclub #brettjamesjohnson #musicpodcast
In this episode, the discussion focuses on the laws surrounding carrying wet items, particularly towels, on Shabbat. We explore the scenario of carrying a towel after drying oneself, highlighting concerns about potentially wringing it out. We also delve into different halachic perspectives regarding wet towels, such as whether it's permissible to bring a towel home after use in a bathhouse and the significance of the towel's absorption of water. The episode further touches on the concept of carrying items like bandages or cloths related to wounds on Shabbat, emphasizing that they are treated as clothing rather than burdens. The podcast concludes with a preview of the next episode, which will cover the rules of cleaning and folding clothing on Shabbat.

Tune into this podcast episode where we learn about the benefits of the amniotic sac with Lisa Kestler of Hill Country Placentas! Whether or not someone wants to encapsulate their placenta, that can donate the portion of the amniotic sac to help people heal. Bandages that help heal persistent wounds are being made with the amniotic sac. Lisa has been involved in the birth world for over two decades. She was a NICU Respiratory Therapist for five years before deciding that her true passion lies with helping mothers. She first heard about placenta encapsulation from a Canadian midwife in 2009 and in 2011 finished her first of two placenta encapsulation certifications. She obtained her second certification in 2015 and during that same year opened the first stand-alone commercial kitchen solely dedicated to placentas in the central Texas area. Lisa was also instrumental in having the Texas state law changed in 2015. This law requires that all hospitals in Texas give the mother her placenta if she requests it. Before this law, hospitals could require a court order if a mother wanted to keep her placenta. In 2023 Lisa completed her Master of Science in clinical mental health counseling at Texas Tech and is an associate licensed professional counselor in Texas. As a mother to seven children (six living,) Lisa understands the challenges that pregnancy, birth, and postpartum bring. Lisa has dedicated her life and career to helping new mothers have the best postpartum recovery possible. A special episode from this year's annual Royal Society Summer Exhibition in London, with Claudia Hammond joined by BBC health and science correspondent, James Gallagher, to take a look at a range of new health research. The exhibitions include a look at how special forms of UV light might be able to cut away cancerous cells in brain tumours, with the possibility of light emitting bandages also being used to target cancer treatments. Claudia and James also look at research from The Francis Crick Institute into whether a simple blood test can help work out how to quickly identify patients who are most likely to deteriorate when they have a virus. We also hear how much brain devices we can buy online really tell us about our brain activity, as well as research into how the way babies wriggle may help identify future developmental issues. Claudia and James also compete in a number of scientific games to see who is this year's Summer Exhibition champion. Presenter: Claudia Hammond Producer: Dan Welsh

The groundbreaking approach to stopping PTSD before it happens. Bandages, gauze, sterile eye dressings — these are some standard supplies you can expect to find in a first aid kit. But what about tools to help mend the mental and emotional wounds people suffer during traumatic experiences? After traveling to Greece to help Syrian refugees during the height of the refugee crisis, child psychiatrist Essam Daod came to the realization that, just as it's important to treat physical wounds as quickly as possible, tending to psychic injuries is also an urgent matter. “I think that we have this very short window of opportunity — what I call the “golden hour” — that we can really do the intervention before the, you know, [traumatic] experience can be stored and imprinted in the brain, especially for kids.” In 2015, Daod and his wife started Humanity Crew, an organization that has so far provided more than 32,000 hours of free mental health services to refugees in the Mediterranean. The organization does its best to reframe traumatic experiences for people when it makes sense to do so — for example, helping a young refugee boy who survived a dangerous ocean journey to see himself as a strong and capable hero. This can nudge the mind to store memories as positive experiences instead of traumatic ones. ------------------------------------------------------------ About Dr. Essam Daod: Essam is a psychiatrist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist who grew up in Israel in a small Arab Palestinian village in the Galilee. He specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry and graduated from psychoanalytic school. In 2015, he flew to Greece for a humanitarian rescue mission where he co-founded Humanity Crew and has been working with refugees ever since. Humanity Crew specializes in the provision of psychological aid to refugees and people in crises, working to deploy mental health and psycho social support to displaced populations in order to improve their wellbeing, to restore order in their lives, and to prevent further psychological escalation. Currently, he is an avid refugee mental health activist and researcher who has spoken at countless conferences and media outlets all over the world advocating for the importance of mental health support for refugees. In 2016 Essam and Humanity Crew were awarded "The Defenders of Refugee Rights Award" at the 4th Edition of Cities Defending Human Rights in Barcelona. In 2018, he became a WHO mental health expert team member, and a TED Fellow. ----------------------------------------------------------- About Big Think | Smarter Faster™ ► Big Think The leading source of expert-driven, educational content. Now, Carl Baptista, Founder and CTO of Cuprina Holdings (NASDAQ: CUPR), is making a medical breakthrough in an even more unusual place: maggots. In this interview, Baptista introduces his company's innovative wound care solution, "the baggot", which will allow maggots to clean wounds without direct patient contact. Contributor: Ricky Dhaliwal, MD Educational Pearls: What can you do to control bleeding in a penetrating wound? Apply direct pinpoint pressure on the wound as well as proximal to the wound. Build a compression dressing. How do you build a compression dressing? Think about building an upside-down pyramid with the gauze. Consider coagulation agents such as an absorbent gelatin sponge material, microporous polysaccharide hemispheres, oxidized cellulose, fibrin sealants, topical thrombin, or tranexamic acid. What are the indications to use a tourniquet? The Stop The Bleed campaign recommends looking for the following features of “life-threatening” bleeding. Pulsatile bleeding. Blood is pooling on the ground. The overlying clothes are soaked. Bandages are ineffective. Partial or full amputation. And if the patient is in shock. How do you put on a tourniquet? If using a Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) tourniquet, apply it proximal to the wound, then rotate the plastic rod until the bleeding stops. Then secure the plastic rod with a clip and make sure the Velcro is in place. Mark the time - generally, there is a spot on the tourniquet to write. Have a plan for the next steps. Does the patient need emergent surgery? Do they need to be transfered? How long can you leave a tourniquet on? Less than 90 minutes. What are the risks? Nerve injury. Ischemia. In the upcoming episode featuring Taz, we're treated to a unique twist as he performs a variation of our intro song. The episode then shifts to an engaging discussion about banana farming, revealing some of the unexpected and often intense experiences associated with this line of work.Taz shares eye-opening stories about the hazards of banana farming, starting with a shocking incident involving a backpacker eager to learn the trade. This learner's encounter with the sharp edge of banana cutting led to a dramatic injury, likened to the fictional character, the Joker, due to a severe facial cut. Taz recounts the urgency of getting medical help and the surprising absence of any follow-up investigations from workplace safety authorities. The episode takes a lighter turn as Taz describes seeing the backpacker later in town, now the center of attention and surrounded by admirers, his injury becoming a bizarre badge of honor.Another harrowing tale involves a worker who accidentally dislodges a hidden knife while cutting a tree, leading to a serious injury that exposed his skull. These stories highlight the unforeseen dangers in seemingly routine farm work.Taz also shares a humorous family anecdote about his dad. A mix-up involving their last name, "Alcock," leads to their family name appearing on a package labeled "Alcock In Hands." This amusing incident gains unexpected popularity, even making it to 'Rove Live' and 'Picture' magazine, much to his father's embarrassment upon discovering the magazine's risqué content.Join us for this episode full of surprising stories, from dangerous on-the-job incidents to amusing family anecdotes, all through Taz's engaging storytelling. Tune in for a blend of laughter, shock, and real insights into the life of a banana farmer. #BananaFarmingTales #TazsStories #PodcastEpisode Hosted on Acast. Historian Peter Belmonte joins the podcast to discuss his latest collaboration with Alexander Barnes on lesser known aspects of the United States' participation in the First World War. The story of how the AEF was supplied with “bullets, bandages, and beans” is just as fascinating as the tales we've often heard from the front. Not needing anything there, we skipped Home Depot; I figured to check the price of a 2x4x8 online, but it's not clear which product I've been viewing; it might be $3.67, but it may have dropped a lot, to $2.98. I'll have to actually go inside next time. The first stop, as usual, was Dollar Tree. No big changes were evident. The shelves all look pretty well stocked, although there is some duplication. Aldi was next and last. We found everything we wanted, which for some reason was a short list this week; perhaps because the garden is producing. Some staple prices are: Eggs, $1.12; milk: $2.92; heavy cream: $4.69; butter: $3.19; bacon: $3.99; flour: $2.19; sugar (jumped): $3.09. Hearing of shortages, I expected to see the 70% chocolate I like going up, but it is still $1.99 (I don't think it has ever changed that I remember); and OJ is $3.19 (that's at least a quart, but I need to recheck to be sure; it's a large glass bottle). Untainted regular gasoline remains at $3.899/gallon. Frugality Tip: Nothing in this week Operation Independence Around 8 jars of green beans added for “free” this week Main topic of the Show: First Aid on the Homestead Why it is important: Often the hospital is far away, things go wrong on the homestead quickly. These days the news is saturated with stories of tragedies from all corners of the world. Because of this, it's sometimes difficult to have an optimistic attitude about the future. It's easy to forget the leaps and bounds we have already made. Centuries of progress and advancements in science and technology feel insignificant when faced with a mountain of modern day issues. But rest assured, we have made progress, especially when we reflect back on the horrific stories that unfolded within Gettysburg National Military Park.
