A new survey of 500 Irish third-level students conducted by TELUS Digital Ireland reveals that an overwhelming 85% of students plan to remain in Ireland after completing their studies, highlighting a strong commitment to contributing to the country's workforce and economy. The research - conducted for MTU's LGBTQ+ FLAG week sponsored by TELUS Digital - provides key insights into the career aspirations, workplace preferences, and values regarding diversity, inclusion, and social responsibility of students in Ireland. When asked about their ideal workplace, nearly half (45%) of respondents indicated a preference for large multinational corporations. Meanwhile, 24% said they want to work for small to medium enterprises (SMEs), 16% expressed a desire to be self-employed, and 11% said they would like to work in start-ups, the public sector, or government. Commenting on the research findings, Logan Davidson, Global Account Manager, TELUS Digital Ireland, said: "As businesses continue to evolve, it is vital to understand and align with the expectations of new graduates to attract and retain top talent in Ireland's competitive job market. At TELUS Digital, we are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone feels empowered to be their authentic selves. This commitment extends beyond our offices into the communities we live, work and serve. That's why we're honoured to sponsor MTU's LGBTQ+ FLAG Week, reinforcing our belief that inclusivity is not just a principle we uphold - it's something we actively practice. Through meaningful initiatives and engagement, we strive to create a culture where both our team members and communities can thrive." Diversity and inclusion remain a priority for Irish students entering the workforce, with 73% emphasising mental health awareness and support as the most critical aspect. Additionally, 60% consider gender equality to be a key workplace value, while 44% prioritise disability awareness. Furthermore, when asked about the importance of diversity in senior leadership, 46% stated it was important to them, while 25% considered it slightly important. Sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) also play a crucial role in employment decisions, with 59% of students stating they are more likely to apply to organisations that continuously promote sustainable and responsible business practices. "For me, being part of a diverse workplace means feeling seen and valued for who I truly am," said Mattilie Browne, third-year Software Development student and Chairperson of the MTU LGBT+ Society Cork Campuses, "As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, it's incredibly empowering to know that there are companies out there - like TELUS Digital - that genuinely care about creating inclusive spaces where everyone can thrive. Diversity in the workplace isn't just about representation; it's about fostering an environment of mutual respect, understanding, and support." An increasing number of students expect companies to take a stance on social issues, with 80% agreeing that workplaces should actively address external societal challenges such as racial injustice, inequality, accessibility, and the digital divide. Students remain optimistic yet realistic about their job prospects post-graduation. When asked how long they anticipate securing a job, responses were as follows: 53% expect to find employment within four months. 42% anticipate it will take around eight months. 6% believe it will take up to a year. Since 2007, TELUS Digital and its team members have impacted the lives of more than 1.6 million people across the globe through our volunteer activities and charitable giving, including Community Board donations. Only two weeks left for third-level students to apply for EirGrid's CleanerGrid Competition

Time is running out for third-level students across Ireland to showcase their vision for the future of the country's energy sector. Students are invited to apply for the EirGrid CleanerGrid Competition 2024, with applications due to close on Thursday 31st October. Now in its second year, the CleanerGrid competition, run by EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland's electricity grid, aims to foster innovation and creativity by encouraging students to showcase their skills in solving critical energy challenges, with a focus on sustainability, efficiency and clean energy technologies. With a top prize of €12,000 (€6,000 for the winning student team and €6,000 for the student's third-level institute), this year's theme asks students to "Present your vision of what the growing energy sector will need to look like in 2050 to have sustainably achieved net-zero emissions". Entrants should show how the grid will need to change to allow for more renewable sources and less synchronous generation; including what government policies will need to be in place, how the economy will be affected, how the grid will need to adapt, how technology can help achieve this goal, or any other relevant points they identify in order to create a resilient energy system for the future. Jack Brady was a member of the winning team for the 2023/24 CleanerGrid Competition and has now joined the EirGrid Graduate Programme. He encourages students from all disciplines to enter the competition. "The CleanerGrid competition with EirGrid is a great opportunity to take the skills you learn in college and apply them to a real-world problem. It is not just about the theory; you need to look at the practical aspects of your idea and how they would be applied. This is not exclusive to engineering students, we need to hear how the electricity system can be future proofed from a range of perspectives. "The competition gave me an insight into renewable energy and the grid, which I would not have had otherwise, and it inspired me to then apply for EirGrid's Graduate Programme following my graduation from TU Dublin. I would encourage anyone with an interest in sustainability, energy, renewables or just solving big world challenges to apply for the competition for the chance to showcase your abilities, and potentially kick-start your career." The competition is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, below PhD level, from all disciplines at any third-level institution in the Republic of Ireland. Students can take part by signing up at EirGrid.ie/CleanerGrid as part of a team of up to six members. Applications close on the 31st October. The top entrants will be invited to EirGrid's head offices to present their innovations to industry experts including members of the EirGrid senior management team. With all the good weather we're having, it can only mean one thing: it's Leaving Cert season. This morning, around 60,000 students around the country will sit down to English Paper One. For many of them, this marks the beginning of a gruelling CAO points race and a scramble over coveted university places. But with lots of alternative routes into further education available, why is there so much emphasis on the final year exam results? Irish Times education editor Carl O'Brien explains the options available to students, who favour a less stressful route. We also hear from Irish Times intern Katie Mellett, who completed her exams last year. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Satsang is a term that means association ('sang') with the Eternal Timeless Truth or God ('Sat'). Satsang means "association with Eternal Truth" as well as "association with God," and is to some extent comparable to "church" or "temple," but not in any institutional sense. A saying of Jesus in the New Testament provides a good definition of a Satsang meetup: "Where two or three are gathered in My Name, I Am there in their midst."   The format of Satsang can include: someone giving a spiritual discourse, instruction on putting the Path into practice, a video or audio of a Master (Sant Satguru) giving a talk, readings from the writings of the Masters, the reciting or singing of banis, bhajans or kirtans (hymns of worship composed by Sants), and silent group meditation. It's considered the greatest of blessings if it is a Master who conducts the Satsang in person (or in this age of live streaming, via the web).   The effect of Satsang is that of DIVINE REMEMBRANCE, thus, with such a spiritual boost, encouragement and support for the spiritual journey, those who go to Satsang are much more likely to stay-on-the-Path and put effort into their own daily spiritual practice at home. Thus will the life of the Bhakta (lover, devotee, disciple) become more and more God-intoxicated by imbibing the spiritual wine, the nectar of divine love.   Also Covered During This Satsang Podcast: People's Attention Drowning in a New Age Soup: In an Age of Junk-Food Spirituality and Endless Internet Memes, What Satsang is NOT -- Satsang is intended to be an oasis, a refuge from the agitations of the mind, maya/illusion, the labyrinth of the world (and astral plane);   Instructions for Holding Satsang, The Purpose of Satsang, Satsang Apart from Rituals, Subject and Scope of Satsang, Love and Service the Basis of Satsang, according to Sant Kirpal Singh;   Extracts from Letters of Huzur Baba Sawan Singh About Satsang ("The Less Organization, the Better");   Authentic Traditional Satsang Templates True to the Path: "For the subject of a talk, we may take up the hymns from any scripture, preferably from the Masters of the Sound Current. It may be supplemented by apt quotations from the parallel writings of other Master Saints. The Holy Gospels themselves are full of such material as may fit in with such a context. The illustrations from various Masters are essential so as to bring out the essential unity in the teachings of all the Saints."
