One of North Carolina's most haunted locations is located in Chatham County. If you follow Devil's Tramping Ground Road, you will come to a strange clearing. It is perfectly round, measuring 40-foot in diameter, and completely barren. Here, nothing seems to grow. Not grass, not trees… nothing. Even animals seem to avoid the area.Beyond its strange appearance, many report that the area is haunted. People have described leaving objects in the circle, only to come back the next day and find it on the outside of the clearing. This leads me to wonder: what is going on here?Local legends say the Devil himself spends his nights in this very spot pacing around in the circle, thinking of ways to bring more human souls down to hell. The heat from his hooves kills all vegetation and causes the soil to remain barren. If he finds anything in his path—no matter the weight or size—he uses his immense strength to toss it out of his way.Residents have passed down this story through the generations since the founding of Chatham County in 1771. To this day, no one has been able to present a logical explanation for the phenomenon.Folks brave enough to attempt spending the night at this location have reported hearing howling sounds and footsteps. They have even reported seeing apparitions. Youtuber Kevin The Custodian Ghost Hunter unknowingly caught an apparition on camera in October 2019. In the video you can see what appears to be a blue, transparent woman walking by.Thanks to Kevin for allowing me to share his evidence here. Please be sure to check out his YouTube channel. After looking into it, I found stories of a massive battle between Native American tribes in this exact spot. Could that explain the hauntings? Unfortunately, the area is now fenced in with no trespassing signs posted. In this episode we are diving into the real nit and gritty of spooky. As kind of a part 2 to the Portals To Hell episode we did back a bit ago... we are diving back down the rabbit hole of haunted locations that even the most experienced paranormal investigators and psychic mediums have trouble going. Up first on deck we talk about the infamous Bobby Mackey's. We go into the back stories of all the legends and lore behind why the place is so dark and theories by other people in the paranormal community of why this land and this building hold negative energy. Bobby Mackey's was one of the first places covered in episode 1 season 1 of Ghost Adventures and according to the guys this is a place they don't want to ever return. Since then it has been a go to for paranormal investigators. The next place is considered to be North America's most haunted location. It gives Megan similar vibes to the demon house and has a very dark past to it. Numerous deaths, suicide, and I'm sure it doesn't help that the aerial view of the house is that of an upside down cross. We also talk about some other locations like The Devil's Tramping ground, a castle that has a legend that the actual portal to hell is in the basement. If you drive fifteen minutes south from Siler City in rural Chatham County, North Carolina, you'll find a place called the Devil's Tramping Ground. Pine trees and red oaks line the edges of this clearing in the woods. And grass and low brush stretch out from the trees, stopping only as they reach a barren, 15 foot wide circle, too perfect to be natural. In the center of the circle, the soil is pure black. Only a plant called wiregrass will sometimes grow there, so sparsely you can barely see it. Locals say that at night, the Devil himself walks along the two-foot wide outer path of the circle, planning how he will enact evil in the world. They say his hooves tramp out any plants that would otherwise grow and that he moves objects that lie in his path outside of the circle.
