Lying abandoned in the valley of the Dark Entry Forest in northwestern Connecticut is the very creepy Dudleytown. Or, more accurately, a portion of Cornwall that gained a reputation for being one of the most haunted places in the U.S.Settled as a village in the 1740s, Dudleytown supposedly got its name from the Dudley family. However, research and records show that the land was once considered sacred and occupied by the Mohawk Nation. For many years, ghost hunters have been fascinated by tales of the lost village of Dudleytown - the vanished Connecticut village that is apparently plagued by ghosts, demons and residents who vanished without a trace. These grave events were said to be caused by a curse, brought by the Dudley family to the New World. This week Kara is doing a deep dive into Dudleytown—an abandoned, and allegedly cursed, settlement in Connecticut. Update: We've since been unable to verify the weird news story shared in this episode about the haunted mirror. It appears to have originated from a now-deleted TikTok and may have been a fictional tale for views. Thanks for understanding! We're always working to keep things creepy yet credible. Have you ever heard of a forbidden town in Conneticut? Apparently Dudleytown has been around for centuries. But due to a string of unexplained disasters, the town is completey forbidden (and illegal) to enter. Some say its due to a Native American curse that was put on the land itself. Some say its due to a curse that followed the founders of the town from England from an execution dating back to Henry VII. Some say its due to the witch trials that took place all around the town in the 1600s. The more we learn about this dark forboding place, the more questions arise. In this episode of Dark Academy' Midnight Library Circle, we journey into the eerie realms of both fiction and reality. First, I review Salem's Lot (2024). I argue with myself for you. Then, we unravel three unsettling true stories. There's the case of Bobby Desmond, the young boy from Maine who disappeared without a trace. We explore the legend of Dudleytown, a so-called "cursed" ghost town in Connecticut where those who enter are said to never return the same, if at all. And finally, we travel to New Orleans to uncover the mystery of the Casquette Girls—virgin brides with a fangy secret-sent to the Ursuline Convent. We welcome you inside Dark Academy, but bewar, some stories have a way of following you home. Can a whole town be cursed? The small village of Dudleytown in Connecticut, part of the Cornwall township, has experienced a series of unfortunate events since its inception in 1747. When Thomas Griffis founded Dudleytown back in the 1740's, he had NO idea of the horrible events that would take place in the village. Mysterious deaths, strange disappearances and something the residents could only describe as... THE BEAST. Now, the town is completely abandoned and the public are banned from entering. They say it's to protect the site from vandalism but is it really to protect the public from Dudleytown?Follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTubeJoin our Secret Society Facebook CommunitySupport us on Patreon.com/ThisParanormalLife to get access to weekly bonus episodes!Buy Official TPL Merch! - thisparanormallife.com/storeIntro music by www.purple-planet.comEdited by Philip Shacklady Hosted on Acast. In the first half, retired entrepreneurs Ron Kardos and Bruce Licht told of how they reached out to thought leaders to discover why they believe in a higher power. Their book, Elevator Pitches for God (book trailer), features 70 one-page essays, and each has a different, personal take on the subject. Among the people featured in the book were (the late) Senator Joseph Lieberman, actress Mayim Bialik, talk show host Dennis Prager, law professor Alan Dershowitz, Ambassador David M. Friedman, and our own George Noory. Kardos & Licht pointed out that the project did not espouse any one religion and included responses from those of many faiths. In his essay, nuclear physicist Gerald Schroeder humorously commented that we know God exists because NASA has taken a picture of it. That is, in the timeline of space, we can see where there was nothing, and then something began, and light created it.George Noory's account included his personal experience as a child in Fitchburg, MA, where he lived with his family in a multi-level home with a furniture store at the bottom. One night, while everyone was sleeping, a fire broke out in the furniture store, and smoke filled all the apartments above. George was awakened by a fireman who was in full gear. George then went and woke up his parents, and everybody made it safely out of the building. Afterward, George's parents thanked the fire chief for the fireman that first woke up George, but the chief responded, 'I don't know what you're talking about-- you were all out of the building before we even arrived.' George concluded that it was an act of God or one of his angels that woke him up and saved his family.----------------In the latter half, psychic medium Cathy Nadal talked about her readings, radio show, and Wiccan practice, and paranormal investigator/entertainer Charles F. Rosenay delved into supernatural occurrences and ghost stories. Both specialize in paranormal investigations and making contact with the Other Side. Nadal shared her personal story of being a Wiccan colonel in the military, balancing spiritual and military life, as well as discussed her radio show "Bringing the Darkness to the Light" heard on 1490 WWPR in Tampa, Florida. She also talked about being certified with the Forever Family Foundation, an organization in Long Island where mediums are vetted and evaluated for their mediumistic evidence.Rosenay spoke about hauntings and ghost stories in Connecticut that he's collected or investgated, as well as his Dracula tours in Transylvania. He detailed a strange occurrence at a tour he conducted in Dudleytown, CT, an abandoned settlement that is thought to be haunted. One of the tour patrons, a skeptic, appeared to be bored, but then everyone started pointing at him, as his hair suddenly stuck straight up in the air. There seemed to be no explanation behind the odd phenomenon. Nadal and Rosenay are participating in two upcoming events in the CT area: the Connecticut Witch Trials Festival (which celebrates the exoneration of witches), and the Paraconn Convention. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/georgenoory/message

IN THIS EPISODE: In the Oakland Cemetery, a bronze monument to tragedy is said to bring death to anyone who touches it. (Black Angel of Death) *** While camping, a man has dreams of a dark-haired woman several nights in a row. Normally it wouldn't be anything to be all that concerned about, but it's something to fear if you are near the French Broad river. (Siren of the French Broad) *** Alien visitors, beings from a different dimension, our planet even had tree monsters and sentient pyramids showing up – and all in the year 1965. (The Inter-Dimensional Interlopers of 1965) *** A retired naval officer reports rocks falling through his home's roof – dozens in a single day – with no explanation of where they came from. (Cappy Ricks and the Stones) *** In 1994 a man has a paranormal experience with a popular song recorded two decades earlier. (The Joker) *** Is there a clandestine space program designed to save the elite from a global catastrophe? (Alternative 3) *** On this date, October 24, 1953, Evelyn Hartley, a 15-year-old sophomore from La Crosse, Wisconsin, vanished without a trace while on her way to a babysitting job. It was like something out of a Halloween urban legend but in this case, the horror was real. (The Babysitter Who Vanished) *** The odd happening that takes place here and there in a house more than likely can be explained in some rational way. Even quite a few strange occurrences could probably be explained by science. But when the events seem to never stop, perhaps it's time to think something else is going on. (An Assortment of Experiences) *** Legend tells a centuries-old curse was placed upon Dudleytown in Connecticut. The town turned into a horrible place where people committed suicide or went insane. (Cursed Dudleytown) *** Exactly 92 years ago today – October 24, 1926 - something went wrong during a performance by Harry Houdini. A week later, he would be dead. (Houdini's Final Performance) *** The Hamilton-Byrne family was anything but typical, rather it was a doomsday cult with a leader who believed herself to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. (Inside the Family Cult) *** AND MUCH MORE!SOURCES AND REFERENCES FROM THE EPISODE…“The History and Hauntings Of The Hindenburg Disaster” (from the book “And Hell Followed With It” by Troy Taylor: http://amzn.to/2zrimTY“Old Man of the Cave”: https://tinyurl.com/taa9h3w“Evil Spirits And Demons Of Marshes And Swamps In Slavic Folklore”: https://tinyurl.com/t79ccnz“Bumps in the Night”: https://tinyurl.com/uz5m7m6“Black Eyed People, Why Are They So Different From The Rest of Us”: https://tinyurl.com/y8mjmhu9“The Seer Of Possibilities” (Creepypasta): https://tinyurl.com/ycz95rnp“Alternative 3”: https://tinyurl.com/w4f5edr“Black Angel of Death” by Orrin Grey: http://ow.ly/v2m430mkGWs“The Inter-Dimensional Interlopers of 1965” by Brent Swancer: https://tinyurl.com/rwy5jdd“Siren of the French Broad”: https://tinyurl.com/sa2ewrt“The Joker” by Rory Kavenagh – submitted directly to WeirdDarkness.com“Cappy Ricks and the Stones”: https://tinyurl.com/ybc3o3rb“The Babysitter Who Vanished” by Troy Taylor: https://tinyurl.com/w9ohx8k“An Assortment of Experiences”: https://tinyurl.com/quqbbmg“Inside the Family Cult” by Joel Stice: https://tinyurl.com/tobap65“Cursed Dudleytown”: https://tinyurl.com/s3sg49m“Houdini's Final Performance” by Troy Taylor: https://tinyurl.com/sj5bsjwWeird Darkness theme by Alibi Music Library. = = = = =(Over time links seen above may become invalid, disappear, or have different content. In honor of the tradition of sharing spooky stories during midwinter, Matt revisits four scary stories. Commentary can be found in their previous episodes (49: Dudleytown, 35: Poveglia Island, 55: Shanghai Tunnels, 18: Himuro Mansion) Until 2024...
Deep in the woods near Cornwall, Connecticut, in a valley known as the Dark Entry Forest, lie the remains of the small village of Dudleytown. Settled in the mid-eighteenth century by British colonists, Dudleytown was a thriving mining community that for provided charcoal and other minerals for the growing steel industry in and around New England. But by the late nineteenth century, the mining industry had shifted west and slowly, but surely the population of Dudleytown shrank until there, by the early twentieth century, there were only a handful of people living in the village. By 1924, the village of Dudleytown was completely abandoned and fell into the ownership of a private trust, who sought to restore the forest ecosystem to its pre-colonial health. In retrospect, historians and others familiar with the region have cited a variety of social, economic, and ecological reasons for the collapse and abandonment of Dudleytown, yet there are those who believe the abandonment of the village has a darker and more supernatural explanation. There were rumors of widespread madness among the villagers, unexplained deaths and other tragedies, and a curse that dates back to the founding of village in the 1740s.Today, the area is said to be haunted and, despitebeing private property, it has become a popular destination for ghost hunters and legend trippers who are determined to find out whether Dudleytown is truly a cursed village or just a victim of shifting social and economic trends.Thank you to the incredible Dave White of Bring me the Axe Podcast for Research!ReferencesBarlow, Bart. 1980. Late on a school night, around 9pm, the road was saturated in a dense white fog. But the moonlight managed to pierce through, casting an eerie glow. Inside my red CRV, I had Allie and Jonah with me. Jonah had never heard of the infamous Dudleytown, so Allie and I decided to take him there and show him what all the fuss was about.Deep in the remote hills of Northwest Connecticut lay an abandoned town known as Dudleytown. It had gained a reputation for being cursed, isolated from the rest of society. Early settlers in the 17th century had established their homes on this vast stretch of land. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when all the children in town died under mysterious circumstances. This led to a mass exodus, leaving behind empty houses and deserted farms. Now, Dudleytown stood as an overgrown hill, casting its long shadow on the valley. It was protected by the enigmatic Dark Woods Society. As we ascended the hill in my car, I leaned back, pressing the pedal firmly due to the steep incline. The road soon transitioned into a rugged path, with rocks flying up in our wake. Finally reaching the top, I switched off my headlights and parked the car beside a bush.Subscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesFollow us on YOUTUBEJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEStory One - RetellingStory Two - RetellingThanks so much for listening and we'll catch up with you again next week for some more true, scary stories.Sarah and Tobie xx"Spacial Winds" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Nestled deep within the remote corners of northwestern Connecticut, concealed by towering mountains and obscured by the relentless passage of time, lies a forgotten hamlet known as Dudleytown. Once teeming with life and vitality, the echoes of this vibrant community have long faded, leaving behind a haunting emptiness. But within the dense forest and jagged rocks, whispers of spectral apparitions, malevolent entities, ancient curses, and a story that even predates the very essence of America lingers. In the present day, mere remnants of cellar holes and weathered stone foundations stubbornly endure. The once bustling roads that meandered towards this town have dwindled into frail footpaths, reserved only for the intrepid few who dare to venture further - be it the adventurous souls seeking solace in nature's embrace or the occasional seeker of the supernatural. Despite the ominous warning, the inquisitive still summon the courage to tread upon Dark Entry Road, daring to penetrate the enshrouded woods under the cloak of night. As the 19th century dawned, the forsaken streets of Dudleytown lay abandoned, their dark reputation spreading like wildfire, earning the ominous title of America's Village of the Damned.Subscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesFollow us on YOUTUBEJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch LinkResearch LinkStory One Retelling of this storyStory Two Retelling of this storyThanks so much for listening and we'll catch up with you again next week for some more true, scary stories.Sarah and Tobie xx"Spacial Winds" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. In connecticut exists a failed town in the wilderness. Today all that is left of it is the cellars and foundations of 26 families homes. Over the course a few hundred years the town would grow and wither away into nothing and serves as an interesting topic as to what happened. Whats more interesting however, is why this town seemingly had an issue with the nearby woods of Dark Entry Forest. Those that lived here, would have an unusually high rate of insanity, where people would say they saw something in the woods. But did they really? Lets discuss that in todays episode! Thank you for watching Roanoke Tales and I hope you enjoy TRUE HORROR: The Dark Entry Forest's Failed Dudleytown Insanity Explored

Dudleytown, an abandoned settlement located in the Dark Entry Forest near Cornwall, CT, is a small village that most people avoid because it is thought to be a cursed location due to its dark history. Even with the name, it was never really an actual town. The name was given to this area of Cornwall because several members of the Dudley family lived there in the 1740s. Settlers began to trickle into the area & the community grew even larger after iron ore was discovered nearby, but it was repeatedly plagued by murder, suicide, madness/insanity, disappearances & failed business.Dudleytown has been abandoned since the early 1900s & cannot be visited because it is part of a land trust. Even though it is forbidden to enter, people have still made their way in to explore and experience the paranormal here. People have felt an overwhelming feeling of dread, terror or fear here or been overwhelmed with sadness. Mysterious lights & orbs have been seen & some have been touched, pushed & scratched by unseen hands. There have also been sightings of strange creatures that would come out of the woods at night. We also review the 2015 movie We Are Still Here starring Andrew Sensenig & Barbara Crampton. A grieving couple unknowingly becomes the prey of a family of vengeful spirits that resides in their new New England home, and they soon discover that the seemingly nearby peaceful town is hiding a terrifyingly dark secret. (Inside the Family Cult) *** AND MUCH MORE!SOURCES AND ESSENTIAL WEB LINKS…“The History and Hauntings Of The Hindenburg Disaster” (from the book “And Hell Followed With It” by Troy Taylor: http://amzn.to/2zrimTY “Old Man of the Cave”: https://tinyurl.com/taa9h3w “Evil Spirits And Demons Of Marshes And Swamps In Slavic Folklore”: https://tinyurl.com/t79ccnz “Bumps in the Night”: https://tinyurl.com/uz5m7m6 “Black Eyed People, Why Are They So Different From The Rest of Us”: https://tinyurl.com/y8mjmhu9 “The Seer Of Possibilities” (Creepypasta): https://tinyurl.com/ycz95rnp “Alternative 3”: https://tinyurl.com/w4f5edr “Black Angel of Death” by Orrin Grey: http://ow.ly/v2m430mkGWs “The Inter-Dimensional Interlopers of 1965” by Brent Swancer: https://tinyurl.com/rwy5jdd “Siren of the French Broad”: https://tinyurl.com/sa2ewrt “The Joker” by Rory Kavenagh – submitted directly to WeirdDarkness.com“Cappy Ricks and the Stones”: https://tinyurl.com/ybc3o3rb “The Babysitter Who Vanished” by Troy Taylor: https://tinyurl.com/w9ohx8k “An Assortment of Experiences”: https://tinyurl.com/quqbbmg “Inside the Family Cult” by Joel Stice: https://tinyurl.com/tobap65 “Cursed Dudleytown”: https://tinyurl.com/s3sg49m “Houdini's Final Performance” by Troy Taylor: https://tinyurl.com/sj5bsjw = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =Weird Darkness theme by Alibi Music Library. In the wilds of northwestern Connecticut are the remains of a small village called Dudleytown. The homes of this once thriving community are long gone, but the land where the town once stood is far from empty. Amidst the forest and rocks are tales of ghosts, demons, unexplained mysteries, curses, and a rich history that dates back to the very beginnings of America.Timestamps:Monologue: 00:00:00 - 00:20:15Discussion: 00:21:00 - 01:15:39Check out our updated website and sign up for our newsletter at AmericanHauntingsPodcast.comCheck out our merch at AmericanHauntingsClothing.comFollow us on Twitter @AmerHauntsPod, @TroyTaylor13, @CodyBeckSTLFollow us on Instagram @AmericanHauntingsPodcast, @TroyTaylorgram, @CodyBeckSTLSubscribe for more bonus content on our Patreon pageThis episode was written by Troy TaylorProduced and edited by Cody BeckMusic for this season is performed by Packy Lundholm and you can find more about his music and upcoming shows on Twitter, Instagram, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Facebook, YouTube, and PackyLundholm.com Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
