Following the tragic loss of his brother-in-law nine years ago, Luke co-founded the charity Andy's Man Club, a peer-to-peer support movement giving men a safe space to meet and talk. What began in Halifax has since grown into a nationwide network of over 300 clubs across the UK, saving lives and breaking down stigma. This year Luke set out to complete "Mission Possible" which includes completing all five IRONMAN races in the UK alongside additional running and cycling events to support and raise awareness of Andy's Man Club. Having already completed three of the five events; IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton, IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea and IRONMAN Leeds, Luke was invited to race at the Men's IRONMAN World Championship in Nice next month as an athlete ambassador and will swap out IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth to race in Nice before heading back to the UK to tackle IRONMAN Wales one week later. Unphased by the challenges that lie ahead, mission possible has already made a significant impact within and beyond his immediate circle and community. Throughout this insightful conversation, Luke reflects on the strong parallels between sport, mental health and resilience, the support of family and community and the power of open conversations. His athletic achievements and success to date with Mission Possible are certainly inspiring, but it's his commitment to creating lasting change through Andy's Man Club and beyond that truly sets him apart. From building communities to conquering IRONMAN races, Luke's journey shows that with purpose, resilience, self-belief and passion, anything is possible.

In this week's Macro Monday update, Chris Holdsworth, Chief Investment Strategist of Investec Wealth & Investment International, looks at what a Trump vs Harris win would mean for the US economy. He also comments on a slightly more hawkish tone from the latest FOMC, with the market now pricing in a 90% chance of a 25bp cut in November. Despite this, the S&P 500 closed at a record high on Friday. In South Africa, SOE performance is slowly grinding upwards, says Holdsworth, suggesting further upside to SA business confidence. As Moms, we like to view ourselves as seasoned vets of life - we've birthed and/or are raising children and we've seen a LOT. Someone throws a tantrum at the grocery store? No sweat. You've got poop on your jeans and it's not your own? Unphased, stain remover can work wonders. But there's a moment with our kids that always stops us in our tracks no matter HOW many times we experience it: The child that wants advice but doesn't actually WANT your advice. It's a bit of a mind F, if you don't mind us saying so, because our sweet children come to us carrying the weight of the world and asking the hard-hitting questions: “Mom, why don't I have an A in math? It feels like I never have time to study for our tests”. In your head, you're screaming WELL YEAH!! You spend an hour every night watching YouTube, what did you expect?! But we all know you can't say that to your child - because it's too practical and your name is Mom. Instead, you choose to bite your tongue. But that is WAY easier said than done. Today we're talking about how to manage these situations with your children in a way that helps them solve problems on their own, recognizes their struggle (no matter how small or easily solvable it seems to us) so they feel seen and heard, and how not lose your own dang mind in the process. Amy Grant's Heart In Motion soared to the top of the Billboard charts and into the hearts of millions. Host Charlie Peacock weaves a narrative that's part celebration and part surprise. He reminds us that this Album of the Year-nominated pop masterpiece is still as fun as it was transformational. It's a moment to reflect, with a touch of playfulness, on the choices that reshaped Amy's career and the dreams of many young artists. Could future artists love the Christian church and create the songs the whole world sings? Yes, indeed. They could and would. Heart In Motion blazed the trail. At the hallowed Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, we sit down with a trifecta of musical maestros, including Brown Bannister, Michael Omartian, and Keith Thomas, all Grammy Award-winning record producers. This trio didn't just produce an album, though. They created a cultural phenomenon—one applauded and denounced. Unphased by the criticism, Amy and this trio of producers created a love letter to pop that has been cherished across the generations. Who doesn't want to sing "Baby, Baby" in the shower or dance around the kitchen to "Every Heartbeat?" This episode is as "behind-the-scenes" as it gets. For example, did you know that "Baby, Baby" almost didn't make the album—that Aretha Franklin was going to record it instead? Yep, that sort of stuff. So, let's roll the tape of Heart In Motion, spin some tales, and untangle the chords of its legacy. Join us as we laugh, ponder, and maybe even sing along to the rhythm of an iconic album that continues to move and groove us thirty-plus years and countless heartbeats later. “Music and Meaning” is a production of Christianity Today Executive Production by Erik Petrik and Matt Stevens Produced and Written by Charlie Peacock and Mike Cosper Associate Production by Raed Gilliam and Leslie Thompson Interview Recorded at Sound Emporium Studios Mixed by Mark Owens Original Music by Charlie Peacock Show theme, “Sound of the Room,” composed by Charlie Peacock, featuring bassist John Patitucci Information on Charlie's latest books and music is available at charliepeacock.com Learn more about your ad choices. Steve Gruber discusses news and headlines
The forthcoming disclosure of court paperwork concerning the infamous Jeffrey Epstein, now deceased and posthumously disgraced for his sexual offenses, could very well include amongst its ranks the name of ex-President Bill Clinton. Mr. Clinton's office, in response to this possibility, has indicated no resistance to the idea of such information entering the public domain. In response to anticipated inquiries regarding the imminent unsealing, Mr. Clinton's office merely redirected any questioners to a previous statement made in 2019. This statement, generated by Clinton's spokesperson Angel Urena, offered clarification on Mr. Clinton's association with Mr. Epstein. Mr. Urena, speaking on behalf of the former President's office, reiterated Clinton's absence from any allegations connected to the offenses of Epstein. He further stressed that there has been no contextual scenario in which the former president had expressed reservations about the said documents being revealed to the public. Mr. Urena stated unequivocally that the former president wasn't privy to any of Jeffrey Epstein's heinous crimes, which led to his conviction in Florida and the charges brought against him in New York. His information, he clarified, was limited to that which had been publicly broadcasted. Clinton's itinerary included Epstein's private aircraft for a total of four journeys during 2002 and 2003. Each of these trips were steeped in purpose with one to Europe, another to Asia and two to Africa. These latter two primarily catered to Clinton Foundation's endeavors.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Assumptions surrounding eating disorders, disordered eating, and underfueling are extreme. In the context of sport, we often believe that underfueling is related to the desire to lose weight. However, this week, Shaunna and Lisa crack open these assumptions and delve into the societal pressures that encircle disordered eating and how these differ on a spectrum of race, socio-economic status, and more. Shaunna and Lisa discuss the ways in which the white male gaze influences the "desired" body type, and how this differs between communities. Further, the duo makes clear how the prototype of a woman with an eating disorder is quite stereotypically a white woman. Why is it such a personal offense to lose to a woman? This week, Shaunna and Lisa discuss gender and sport and the masculine urge to outperform women. Drawing from a recent news article in which a man killed his female competitor for beating him in basketball, the team unpacks what undergirds this kind of reaction. Discussing words and phrases like "chick" and "being chicked,” Lisa and Shaunna talk about the cultural narratives that infantilize, or in the case of “chick,” dehumanize women. Understanding masculinity, toxic or otherwise, in the context of sport shows us how men's reaction to losing to women is more than individual pride. ***If requiring a transcript, please email amelia@livefeisty.com*** **Support the Podcast** InsideTracker: Get 20% off at insidetracker.com/feisty Orca: Use code IRONWOMEN15 for 15% off at www.orca.com/ Hammerhead: Get a FREE heart-rate monitor with the purchase of a Hammerhead Karoo 2. Perfectionism can be exhausting, especially in endurance sport. Athletes expect to have the *perfect* race. With the upcoming Ironman World Championship race in Kona, it's essential to understand what perfection is and what it is not. And, how does "perfection" exclude certain groups of people? This week, Shaunna and Lisa dive into the definition of perfection and what groups are included and excluded. Perfection in terms of athletic performance is tied to something very specific, which, as the hosts discuss, has distinct roots in whiteness and maleness. How do we oppose ideas of perfection that come from a fast time, and instead embrace the perfection that comes from having a race that feels good? ***If requiring a transcript, please email amelia@livefeisty.com*** **Support the Podcast** InsideTracker: Get 20% off at insidetracker.com/feisty Orca: Use code IRONWOMEN15 for 15% off at www.orca.com/ Hammerhead: Get a FREE heart-rate monitor with the purchase of a Hammerhead Karoo 2. Doesn't inclusion mean including everyone regardless of their perspective? So, what do we do when people who express exclusive positions argue we are no longer walking the talk because we exclude them? These challenges to inclusion initiatives continue to present struggles for DEI work. Folks with perspectives such as, "you get to have an all-black student club, we get an all-white student club", or "based on my religion, I don't agree with gay marriage, so I won't make a cake for a queer couple” argue that inclusion should mean honoring and respecting their opinion. How do inclusion advocates navigate their message of inclusion while simultaneously excluding people who have an exclusive perspective? Engaging in these discussions can be tricky to handle, and this week, Shaunna and Lisa put some tools in your toolbox to navigate the waters of the inclusion critic. As you all will likely have heard by now, Queen Elizabeth II has died. While the whole world is talking about this, we thought we would too. Right now, many folks have questions surrounding how we should react to this news. Based on the media coverage, it seems as though everyone has a different answer to this question. This week, Shaunna and Lisa dive into WHY everyone has a different emotional response to the death of the Queen. We made it 100 episodes!! For the 100th episode, Shaunna and Lisa dive deep into the feeling of being offended. They analyze both the reasons people may feel this emotion, as well as the linguistic roots of this word. Further, how is this word used in social justice circles? Many of us within the realm of social justice and advocacy will recall being called "easily offendable" or "too sensitive". Through an in-depth and reciprocal discussion, Shauna and Lisa conclude that the term "offended" has been adopted as a form of gaslighting used by the powers that be (i.e. white people, men, able-bodied people) to dismiss the anger of others. There are all kinds of narratives that are placed upon us based on our looks, size, attire, socioeconomic status, age, race, sexuality, and on and on. Based on these factors, people have expectations of how we should be. For example, if you're a woman - you should eat less than a man, if you wear glasses you should be smart, if you're small - you're fit, etc. This week, Shaunna and Lisa discuss the ways in which these fiction narratives define us and ultimately affect our understanding of ourselves and others. If you are a cyclist, you know just how long you have to be on that saddle. And those things usually aren't the most comfortable! As women, they can be especially uncomfortable, because of the lack of resources available surrounding saddle comfort and vulvar health. Kim is the only female clinical bike fitter located in Kentucky and focuses her efforts on helping women get the right bike fit and have a pain-free ride. The trio discusses why it's important to have female bike fitters, and the hurdles Kim had to overcome to do so. Further, Kim highlights the importance of community, and especially, female communities in sport. The standards placed upon women in North America and beyond are impossible. We are told to care for the family, but stay in shape; "get up and work", but be engaged mothers. We are genuinely, damned if you do - damned if you don't. This week, Shaunna and Lisa discuss these impossible standards and the ways the greater systems and institutions within our society are working to maintain these standards. Using examples like body image, motherhood, and sport, the duo unravels the true oxymorons of our society and highlight the women that are trying to create real change. ***If requiring a transcript, please email amelia@livefeisty.com*** **Support the Podcast* InsideTracker: Get 20% off at http://insidetracker.com/feisty (http://insidetracker.com/feisty) Orca: Use code IRONWOMEN15 for 15% off at https://www.orca.com/ (https://www.orca.com/) Hammerhead: Get a FREE heart-rate monitor with the purchase of a Hammerhead Karoo 2. Not to pick favorites, but here at Feisty - this is definitely a favorite. With almost 50 years of experience as an athletic director and inductions into seven different halls of fame, Joan Cronan has A LOT to say about Title IX and gender equity in sport. Graduating college in 1966, Joan was part of intercollegiate sports before women had the federal right to equally compete. This week, our co-host of Girls Gone Gravel, Kathryn Taylor, interviews Joan and asks her about what she calls "her journey." Joan shares the story of her life so far, beginning at the age of twelve when she decided she was going to create change for women in athletics. To do so, in 1972 Joan made a cold call to the president of the College of Charleston and left his office as the women's basketball coach, volleyball coach, tennis coach and overall athletic director. From there, she made innumerable changes to women's athletics that will forever go down in history. If that isn't feisty, what is? ***If requiring a transcript, please email amelia@livefeisty.com*** **Support the Podcast** Get 20% off at http://insidetracker.com/feisty (http://insidetracker.com/feisty) Use code livefeisty15 for 15% off at https://www.orca.com/ (https://www.orca.com/) Register for the 2022 Verizon New York City Triathlon at https://www.nyctri.com/ (https://www.nyctri.com/) Get a FREE heart-rate monitor with the purchase of a Hammerhead Karoo 2. We each hold a variety of privileged identities such as sexuality, race, socioeconomic status, and education, to name a few, but how do we recognize they are privileged in the first place? This week, Shaunna and Lisa reflect on an episode of Red Table Talk about the process a former white supremacist went through as he made the decision to turn away from hate. An ongoing question for many of us who work to educate others is: what factors can help people recognize their privilege? Using their own personal experience with privilege awareness, Lisa and Shaunna explore whether there is a moment in time where the proverbial lightbulb switches on or whether the awareness is more incremental, happening over time. They focus on privileges beyond race and gender in this discussion, since identity privileges receiving less exposure may be harder for each of us to identify as we journey towards a more inclusive personal and professional practice. ***If requiring a transcript, please email amelia@livefeisty.com*** **Support the Podcast** InsideTracker: Get 20% off at http://insidetracker.com/feisty (http://insidetracker.com/feisty) *Until July 15th, take advantage of exclusive savings with 31% off your entire InsideTracker order! This week, we are sharing a replay from almost a year ago. Our one and only male guest that has been on Un[Phased] has his new book coming out imminently, so we wanted to remind our listeners of Dr. Shaun Anderson and his message. Dr. Anderson is an associate professor of organizational communications and author of the forthcoming book, The Black Athlete Revolt: The Sport Justice Movement in the Age of #BlackLivesMatter. He reminds us that sport and politics have always been mixed; athletes have long used their public platforms to call out social injustice. The difference now however is that, through social media and other outlets, athletes can control the way that they are engaging in the narratives around social injustice. The next step for all of us in the sporting community, is to begin to use these platforms to push towards engaging in true policy reform. It is not an easy fight; we are pushing against a systematic regime that has been in power for ages, but by educating ourselves, building a platform and speaking out, we can begin to make positive changes in sport and society. ***If requiring a transcript, please email amelia@livefeisty.com*** **Support the Podcast** Get 20% off at http://insidetracker.com/feisty (http://insidetracker.com/feisty) Use code livefeisty15 for 15% off at https://www.orca.com/ (https://www.orca.com/) Register for the 2022 Verizon New York City Triathlon at https://www.nyctri.com/ (https://www.nyctri.com/) Subscribe to the https://livefeisty.com/category/podcasts/feisty-womens-performance-podcast/ (Feisty Women's Performance Podcast )to catch our limited Title IX series! There is no denying that Title IX created many new opportunities for women in sport, but what women were excluded from these opportunities? This week, Dr. Shaunna Payne Gold from our Unphased podcast welcomes Dr. Markesha Henderson to discuss the intersection of Title IX, civil rights, and women's rights. Dr. Henderson is the Director of Athletics at Agnes Scott College and brings a unique perspective as one of only 35 black female athletic directors in the NCAA. Shaunna and Dr. Henderson discuss what it takes to have your intercollegiate team flourish, and how having male allies is often necessary. Further, Dr. Henderson underlines the ways in which intercollegiate athletic systems exclude women, and specifically black women, from taking on leadership roles in sport. Finally, Dr. Henderson tells us how she would use her magic wand to change things for women's sports today. Following my knee injury, I had to have two major surgeries that have put me out of service for weeks. The latest one will have me on crutches for six plus weeks. In this episode, I explore how these two episodes of temporary disability have impacted my life and opened my eyes to the challenges of living with a disability. As a black woman, the issue of diversity and inclusion is something I deal with all the time. I struggle with issues in my work, in my career as an orthopedic surgeon is dominated by white men, and in most of my hobbies: triathlons, skiing, etc. Though most places have handicap parking spots, many are not in the most ideal places. The spots are sometimes far from the entrance; it requires going over hurdles to access the building. I was listening to a podcast by fellow triathletes, Unphased. There was a triathlon and the handicapped parking was placed where adaptive athletes in wheelchairs had to go over a mud field to get to race. Many couldn't and needed assistance to get to the start. And it's not just the parking spots, other amenities such as toilets, safety equipment , building and transport access ways, fire equipment and so on must also be considered. Sometimes, where the parking spots are appropriately placed close to the building, other people without handicaps take advantage of such spots leaving the deserving people to suffer and so your consideration is asked. Organizers and managers of events need adaptive athletes in the planning process. Disabled people are not looking for handouts. They want to be as productive and independent as they can. Having these considerations for them will help them become highly productive members of the community, inspiring athletes, and such much more. Episode Highlights: Note of thanks for the continued support of the podcast The importance of diversity and inclusion People with disabilities My experience living with a temporary disability Inspiring athletes with disabilities- adaptive athletes How you can be more sensitive to people living with disabilities Did you enjoy today's episode?
