Thank you, Rachel, for helping me launch my career. Woohoo! I met Rachel several years ago post-college. I was networking my butt off and I don't even remember how, but I think I cold-LinkedIn messaged her. I agreed to meet up with her for a mentorship meet-and-greet coffee with her and other young women wanting to network. That morning, thank goodness was a good day for me. She saw my fire and really helped me land a big girl internship as a Copywriter. Rachel continued to mentor me for a few years. What I really adore about Rachel is her mission is so clear—empowering women in ANY kind of business or venture. After every conversation, I left with high spirits and a fire under my butt. Any women or anyone at all who wants to network with one of the big shots of Orange County, I urge you to connect with Rachel. Don't be shy! Rachel is unstoppable. Throughout Svoboda's extensive 20-year career in advertising, she has led prestigious advertising teams at Amusement Park (formerly DGWB), Phelps, and Saatchi & Saatchi, Los Angeles. She is currently CEO at Sunday Brunch Agency. Rachel is a single mother of two and lives in Huntington Beach. Rachel is also the CEO and Founder of Lynxx bourbon; a bourbon that celebrates female empowerment. She noticed a huge gap in the whiskey market, and noticed that women turn to wine after a long day. Of course Rachel being Rachel, she wanted to change that. This year, Rachel was elected as a Board of Director at Working Wardrobes and joined the Advisory Board for Girls Inc. Rachel recently launched a streaming video series called, The Brunch Club, where we raise a glass and champion female talent and leadership everywhere. Rachel was named Women of the year by The National Association of Professional Women. She is currently an official MBA mentor at Chapman University and a featured speaker on the university's inaugural Women in Business Association series. Jessica entered the bourbon world in 2017 working for Pegasus Distilled - a black car transportation company that offered custom bourbon tours (because the people demanded it). She coordinated custom bourbon tours for individuals and groups, up to 35 custom tours per week. She developed itineraries, booked vehicles, bought tickets, educated, hosted, created unique experiences, put out fires, and made sure people had a “perfect Kentucky day”!Jessica took a job in 2019 (that was meant to be part-time so she could continue tourism) with Fred Minnick - best-selling author of Whiskey Women, Bourbon, bourbon curious, rum curious. Co-Founder of Bourbon & Beyond music festival, Spirits critic & judge, etc etc etc he does too much. She started his YouTube, did video editing and production, set up tastings, scheduling, etc etc etc everything else she probably signed an NDA for. Fred was approached by a recruiter for H&A Barrel Management and he encouraged Jessica to apply. In July 2020, she took the role of “North America secondary Barrel sales” for H&A Barrel Management so I've been living in the barrel finishing world and wine world since then.We can't wait to hear what you think of it. This Saturday, the Whiskey Women were invited to two very special events and were so excited to share our experiences in this episode...unfortunately, any plans we had were blown away when our night ended under attack by a predator. Join us for a discussion of what happened, an analysis of what we would do differently or the same should it happen to you or someone you know, and a reminder of the two most important things in any situation where a woman is under attack: listening and believing her.

Hipsters get blamed for a lot -- skinny jeans, ironic t-shirts, and obscure indie bands -- but bringing the Old Fashioned cocktail back into style is something they (we) can be proud of. Still, there are a lot of options when it comes to which bitter to choose when making an Old Fashioned, and the Whiskey Women learned the best and worst options out there, comparing them to the best and worst of the hipster world. Get excited -- but only ironically.
In this new segment called "Whiskey Witches and Wizards", the Whiskey Women interview professionals in the bar, spirits, and/or cocktail world who elevate their work above the realm of mere mortals and into something... magical. Listen in to learn the artistry and intent that goes into making each drink a curated experience for the patron.
Welcome back to Whiskey Women! We're ridin' into a new season by literally taking the show on the road this time, to our Texas urban neighbor, Austin. Join Janet and Blair as they walk around Austin's legendary sixth street and off-road to find whiskey in a summerland of Tequila.
If eaten ungodly amounts of brisket in a scary small time frame impressed women. I wouldn't have to do this podcast.
This episode begins with a correction about malt whisky from episode 4, Whiskey Women, and Laura explains that she found “her drink.” She’s also working on an exciting project but it’s stressing her out a little bit. Sara’s blog got sneakily hacked but Taylor Swift is coming through for her on the political front. After catching up they move onto drinking gin and tonics, eating blondies, and discussing London while doing some terrible British accents. Before ending with recommendations they answer a listener question about how they decide where to go in the world. The full show notes for this episode are available here. Please reach out to us!Instagram: @passportpizzapodTwitter: @passportspizzaemail: hello@passportsandpizza.comleave a voicemail: 717-964-0215
Sara met a cat she didn’t hate, she’s dealing with some social anxiety, and she’s happy to be podcasting. Laura is super annoyed by airlines but she had a puppy chow angel who made her week. The main topic this week is whiskey, and the gals get into it: they discuss how they learned to love whiskey, what it’s like to be women who drink it, and their whiskey bucket lists. They obviously had to imbibe, so they tasted some scotch and Sara made whiskey sours (recipe below). Before their recommendations they answer a listener question about being morning people. The full show notes for this episode are available here. Please reach out to us!Instagram: @passportpizzapodTwitter: @passportspizzaemail: hello@passportsandpizza.comleave a voicemail: 717-964-0215

The Whiskey Women go for the obvious Thanksgiving choice and sample three different kinds of Wild Turkey Whiskey. So which type was the mashed potatoes? Which brought out the nostalgia? Listen in to find out.
It's Halloween in Houston, which means the Whiskey Women are drinking in costume. Ever sampled whiskey from the other side of the planet? Yeah, neither had the Whiskey Women. Thanks to a local specialty bar, Janet and Blair try some of the finest offerings from Japan and Taiwan. As a result, they discover a whiskey that out-scotches Scotland, another that sings like a popstar, and another that is closely linked to some earlier favorites. Listen in and learn how to branch out. Theme music provided by: Goran Andrić https://freesound.org/people/zagi2/
Like drinking spiky or smooth sunshine, this second episode is focused on Bourbon, a subject very near and dear to the Whiskey Women's hearts. With the help of expert and appointed "whiskey wizard" Brian the bartender, Janet and Blair sample Buffalo Trace, Pikesville Rye, and Balcones' Baby Blue. They loved this tasting so much, they tried to buy one of the brands immediately after recording (only to discover the liquor store was sold out). Listen in to learn about this snifter-sized serving of joy. Theme music provided by:
In this first episode, "The Usual Suspects," the Whiskey Women take on a whole bunch of J's -- Jack, Jim, Jameson, and Johnnie -- and throw in a Crown for good measure. So which is these most commonly ordered whiskies do they call "busy" and which do they compare to nail polish? Which has to get watered down to go from a lit match in your mouth to a smoking one? Listen and learn what these brands have to say for themselves, while getting introduced to the Whiskey Women's delightfully absurd, insistently unprofessional way of discussing whiskey.
6-19-18 Tonight we're up to a couple of things. We're going to do some chat tonight around our to-brew lists, mistakes we've learned from, equipment we didn't know we needed when we got started, and other things. AND, we're happy to welcome Fred Minnick, author and speaker. Fred gave the Mead Cocktails talk at the 2018 AMMA MeadCon. Wall Street Journal-bestselling author Fred Minnick loves his bourbon so much that he’s written three books on the subject: Whiskey Women, Bourbon Curious and Bourbon: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of An American Whiskey, which Smithsonian Magazine recognized as one of the best food books of 2016 and won Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards’ Best Book. That’s right, bourbon is a food. So is rum. Oh yeah, he wrote Rum Curious, which Atlanta Journal Constitution named one of the best drinks books of 2017. Fully admitting that he has a book writing addiction, Minnick wrote Mead: The Libations, Legends, and Lore of History’s Oldest Drink. Fred Minnick, acclaimed bourbon author who also happens to have the Amazon #1 Best Selling book in the Whiskey Category Bourbon: The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of an American Whiskey, shares his history before bourbon, dive into chapters of bourbon history, and get his opinion on barrel finishes if it’s still a bourbon and age statement removals Acclaimed bourbon author and media pundit on all things bourbon who is always dressed to the 9s and who also happens to have the Amazon #1 Best Selling book in the Whiskey Category Bourbon: The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of an American Whiskey Now lets talk about life before bourbon. What were you doing before then? What was the turning point that got you into bourbon or just whiskey in general? Let’s talk about your latest book Bourbon: The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of an American Whiskey and I want to read everyone the first line from it so they have an idea what they are in for. “Bourbon is more American than Apple Pie, existed before baseball, and has built more roads, schools, and government infrastructure than any other non-petroleum domestic product” and you finish off the thought with “Bourbon is good for America. And it’s time we understand the historic intricacies that make it so unique” Talk about the inspiration behind writing this piece. I want to learn a bit about some of the individual chapters without giving too much away. So i’ll give you the title for a few of them and give the listeners an idea of what they can expect when they read What did you learn through the process of writing? Last week there was a pretty interesting discussion happening online and everyone has to weigh their own opinion. It was an argument that a bourbon finished in a different barrel can no longer be considered a bourbon and should have it’s own category defining itself. What’s your thoughts on finished bourbon in regards to the technicality of their category? You can find all of Fred’s books including Bourbon Curious, Whiskey Women and more on Amazon and links on his website fredminnick.com
