This week we speak with Jason Bedrick, Director of Policy at EdChoice a non-profit committed to understanding and pursuing a K–12 education system that empowers every family to choose the schooling environment that fits their children's needs best. We're speaking with him about a recent report he authored, "Who's afraid of school choice?" It examines some of the false rhetoric that school choice opponents make and compares it with the actual outcomes of school choice programs across the country. This week's action item: Check out our partners at Opportunity for All Kids (OAK) to learn more about school choice efforts in Minnesota and how you can help advocate for parents and students to have real educational choices. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (I am, George) features one of the most compellingly uncomfortable arcs of any movie as we watch George and Martha destroy their entire imagined world. Other married couples crack-up much less metaphysically, including the mental and emotional fracturing of A Woman Under the Influence and, well, the fracturing of nearly everything in the coldly violent The Shining.

The Supreme court of Israel has been an ongoing target to the right-wing arrows, mostly around the claim that it prevents the government from ruling and the Knesset from passing laws that represent the majority's wishes. All of that is because the court's ruling on the legality of the Knesset legislation and decisions of state authorities. When did this tension began, Is the Supreme Court really a barrier to governance as the critics say or just playing it's role as part of the separation of powers in Israel? And who can help me explain this better than the one and only, Dr. Roy Peled. Dr. Peled is an Administrative and Constitutional Law professor at the Haim Striks School of Law, College of Management – Academic Studies in Israel, a Visiting Professor in Israel Studies at UC Berkeley, and former CEO & Chairperson of the Movement for Freedom of Information in Israel.

After delivering on his promise of 200 million shots in 100 days, President Biden has set a new vaccine target: that 70 percent of the adult population get at least one shot by July 4. The Biden administration also plans to change the way doses are portioned out to states by allowing states to request or reject doses from a central stockpile according to their need. Republican state lawmakers are pushing bills to ban or severely limit the teaching of critical race theory, which is the idea that we should teach American history from a perspective that considers the experiences of people from different races. A lot of this stems from the “1619 Project" by Nikole Hannah-Jones. We discuss the tactics Republican lawmakers are using to keep texts like the “1619 Project” out of schools and what might be motivating their efforts (Hint: it’s racism). And in headlines: new climate normals from NOAA show a warming country, a metro overpass collapses and kills dozens in Mexico City, and Trump launches his blog. Fairy tales like The Three Little Pigs are meant to be cautionary tales about things like laziness. When Jesus calls us sheep and warns us about wolves prowling around his flock, he has a more serious danger in mind. Listen to this week's sermon to find out who the "Big Bad Wolf" is and why you don't have to be afraid of him.

In Honor of George Segal, we are re-releasing a very early episode of The Cine-Files. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is one of the most brilliant, challenging and shattering plays of all time. (It also happens to be very funny for those with a particualarly dark sense of humor. It stars, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Sandy Denis and of course George Segal. With 13 Oscar Nominations and and 5 wins it is one of the most honored films of all time. We also were thrilled to welcome to the microphone, actress Kathleen Early who acted in the national touring production of the play and worked directly with playwright, Edward Albee. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thecine-files/message
In this episode Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe discuss the week's racing in Belgium and Catalonia.First, the cobbled Classics where Deceuninck-Quick Step got off to a flyer with victory for Sam Bennett at the Oxyclean Brugge-De Panne Classic before winning the numbers game at the E3 Saxo Bank Classic, where Kasper Asgreen got the better of everyone, including Mathieu Van der Poel and Wout Van Aert.On Sunday, though, Van Aert bounced back to win Gent-Wevelgem. But where does all this leave us with The Big One on Sunday? And can Deceuninck-Quick Step's wolfpack repeat what they did in Harelbeke?Meanwhile, the stage racers were in Catalonia, where Adam Yates led a clean sweep of the podium for Ineos Grenadiers. The Cycling Podcast is supported by iwoca and Science in Sport. We would like to thank everyone at Iwoca, whose title sponsorship comes to an end after 13 months supporting The Cycling Podcast. For as long as anyone can remember, talk about deficits and the debt have been central to political life. How much can we spend? On what? What are the trade-offs? What will it cost? I mean, what will it really cost. If politics is about choosing, if it is about, as the classic phrase goes, “Who gets what, when, and how?” then spending constraints are central to what makes it so. But what if deficits and the debt did not induce the constraints we thought? Modern monetary theory invites us to think about money and government spending in a new way, opening up possibilities that were seemingly out of reach before. But is the promise too good to be true? On this episode we take a look and ask: Who's afraid of modern monetary theory? On this episode of Open to Debate, David Moscrop talks with Stephanie Kelton, Senior Fellow at the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis, Professor of Economics and Public Policy at Stony Brook University, and author of The Deficit Myth: Modern Monetary Theory and the Birth of the People's Economy.

This episode, Who's Afraid of the Impasse? Reflections about a Crossroads, stems from a clinical concern that the author has seen become more and more important during her practice as a psychoanalyst, appearing often in the clinical material of her colleagues and those she supervises, as well as in her own clinical experience. Many times, the Impasse tends to go unnoticed. It gets confused with other clinical phenomena, which makes it necessary to illuminate it in a special way. Its approach and complex technical implementation depends on it. In this episode she tries to look at the topics mentioned, emphasizing the necessary diagnosis and the vicissitudes of its approach.Maria Paz de la Puente is a Peruvian psychoanalyst living in Lima, Peru. She is a Didactic member of the Peruvian Society of Psychoanalysis (SPP), FEPAL and the IPA. She was an IPA board member, as well as an SPP Vice President on two occasions. She also teaches and supervises at her institution, the SPP, and is currently working full time doing clinical work as well community activity and work. This Thanksgiving, be thankful your significant other doesn't expect you to pull a Virginia Woolf and write them a stealth love letter in the form of the celebrated and experimental genderbending novel, Orlando: A Biography, like Woolf did for her girlfriend. Instead of just, y'know, getting them a gift card to The Cheesecake Factory. Again. Christ, Todd, get it together.
I believe that when God reveals things to the prophets and apostles. These are the things that God wants to do. However there are things that are time sensitive and conditions that must be meant in order for that prophetic word to manifest. The election of President Donald Trump was spoken by the mouths of the prophets. Even the confirmation of a second term was spoken by the prophets, but the election was won by Vice President Joe Biden. I believe that the word of those prophets could've happened, but the conditions for manifestation didn't take place due to the character and actions of President Trump and the silence of the church when it came to issues that affected communities of color, social justice, and fighting against racism. Now you see charismatic witchcraft working to stop the winner of the election as well as to silence the voice of those people that have been affected by the rhetoric and actions that the white evangelical community and this presidency represents and condones. My question is God for it? Are these God's values? Is this what God wants?

The classic film 200 A Space Odyssey played on the fear that computers would soon become conscious, independent, and dangerous to humanity. A fear of computers is not just the stuff of scifi nightmares but also is shared by Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, and Bill Gates. They need not worry. While Kubrick, Hawking, Musk, Gates, and the rest of us should be afraid of what some people armed with supercomputers and artificial intelligence can do to us, we have no need to fear what the computers themselves can do. A groundbreaking mathematical discovery in 1930, and its implications for computer science, can put our minds at rest. This Postmodern Realities episode is a conversation with CHRISTIAN RESEARCH JOURNAL author Charles E. White about his philosophical apologetics article Whos Afraid of HAL? Why Computers Will Not Become Conscious and Take over the World.
