Dean Rispler has been involved in crafting and playing music for over 30 years, but even to this day, he remains a fan above all. In addition to hosting and producing Gimme Metal, he's played or worked with bands such as Witch Taint, The Dictators, The Brought Low, Mighty High, and in his free time likes to collect records that he may not actually have the time to listen to. During his chat with Dylan, Dean talks about loving the oldies, hating the 90s, how Ozzy and Pink Floyd "ruined his life", recruiting his friends to occupy record stores, being an EXTREME but self-aware vinyl addict, listening ears vs. production ears, and producing Ross the Boss' show on Gimme Radio. You can check out Dean on Gimme Radio every other Thursday at 5 PM EST, 2 PM PST, 11 PM CET.
No one would ever say writer/musician/comedian/rockstar Dave Hill is lazy. Hill has done just about everything, including being the brainchild behind black metal icons Witch Taint. Witch Taint is fronted by Dave's alter ego, Lance from Gary, Indiana - the king of black metal. The band has been called “the most extreme black metal band of all time” (self-proclaimed) - after releasing only one album Sons of Midwestern Darkness. Dave stops by Thunderlove Studios to chat with Keith & Rob about the Taint. Arguably the most extreme band to ever emerge from Gary, Indiana.
Episode 136- Dave Hill! Dave is a true Renaissance man. He is a musician, a comedian, an actor, a writer, a podcaster and a clothing designer. He truly excels at all these things. As a musician, he wrote the theme song for John Oliver’s show. His books have been been praised by author Malcolm Gladwell. He has appeared on many great TV shows including Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and many more. There is a lot to discuss here and I had a lot of fun chatting with Dave about a variety of topics.0:00:00 - Intro0:01:02 - Dave's Many Projects 0:02:50 - Early Inspirations 0:04:15 - Childhood/Teen Years 0:07:00 - Working at a Homeless Shelter 0:10:50 - Some of Dave's Bands 0:13:35 - "Witch Taint" Black Metal Band0:23:30 - Early Musical Influences 0:25:30 - "Valley Lodge" Band0:28:05 - Working w/ Blink 182's Mark Hoppus 0:28:58 - Playing Music & Collaborating 0:30:55 - Working w/ Big Name Comedians 0:32:25 - Modern Family & Other Dave Hills 0:38:30 - TV Show Recommendations 0:42:25 - Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt 0:43:25 - "Drunk Bus" Movie 0:44:35 - Writing & Susie Essman 0:46:10 - Malcolm Gladwell's Writing Advice 0:49:35 - Comedian Mike Polk 0:52:46 - Accomplishing Projects & Daily Routine 0:56:15 - Motivation & Desire for Projects 1:01:50 - Meditation, Anxiety & Drugs 1:04:20 - Ice Cream & Dan Wilbur 1:07:50 - New York Comedy & Alt Comedy1:09:55 - Talent & Platforms1:12:40 - No Kid Hungry1:14:25 - Politics & Trump1:18:20 - Projects on the Horizon 1:21:15 - Wrap Up Dave Hill Website:https://www.davehillonline.comNo Kid Hungry Website:https://www.nokidhungry.orgChuck Shute Website:http://chuckshute.comSupport the show (https://venmo.com/Chuck-Shute)

Dave Hill is back again to talk about putting together a real, living, breathing black metal band from a very innocent email gag, how nobody knows the words to "War Pigs", championing "Angel Witch" by Angel Witch off Angel Witch on The Goddamn Dave Hill Show, going after triggered drums on Twitter, how he embodies fandom in everything he does, why metal can be applicable to any scenario, his secret reggae phase, and classifying Fu Manchu as slipper metal.Support Dave's bands, Painted Doll and Witch Taint, and you can follow him on Instagram and visit his website.Tracks featured are "On the Grimness of Noodles" and "Sons of Midwestern Darkness" off of Sons of Midwestern Darkness by Witch Taint

Comedian and Son of Northern, er, Northwestern Darkness Dave Hill radios in from the Buckeye State to reminisce on tales of Mayhem's missing Microbutcher, being the backing band for Thor, going to every show with Tim from Sweet Apple, how Cleveland is a major rock stop, determine the coolest guitar ever, just missing King Diamond, why you should make something else if everyone else is bringing potato salad, prove that he is doom capable, provide some soda hacks, and both he and the cipher aggressively fail to define "burrito metal*."Stay tuned for part two!Support Dave's bands, Painted Doll and Witch Taint, and you can follow him on Instagram and visit his website.Track featured is "Get You High Tonight" off of How to Draw FirePhoto by Mindy Tucker*burrito metal - metal that generally refers to both the thiccness of its riffs and its old fan base
Comedian! Musician! Metallica fan! Dave Hill is one-half of the psych-garage duo Painted Doll, together with Chris Reifert (Death, Autopsy). As an actor and personality, Dave has appeared on The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Tick, @midnight, Inside Amy Schumer, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, and The Jim Gaffigan Show. He’s written three books, appears all over the world as a standup comic, contributed to The New York Times and GQ, and is the mastermind behind the "mostly imaginary” black metal band Witch Taint. His power pop band, Valley Lodge, wrote the theme song to HBO’s Last Week Tonight. In this episode, we talk about Phil Anselmo, Fenriz, Portal, The Replacements, Dokken, The Jackson Five, depressing pubs in England, Corrosion of Conformity, Mayhem, Emperor, a-ha, a whole bunch of Danzig and yes, plenty of Metallica. We first discovered NWOBHMers Cloven Hoof as young 'uns going Metal full time. The Hoof's monicker and imagery convinced us to grab their '84 debut sound unheard. W've been HoofHeads ever since. With their latest album "Age Of Steel" dropping among the chaos, it was a opportune time to get main Hoofman Lee Payne on the horn. We discussed the new record, their spot in British metal history, and he shares the strange occurrences recording the aforementioned debut. Eerie stuff! Another long overdue "Bucket List" interview. In our "News, Views and Tunes", we discuss the recent attempt-at-being-PC-and-relavent name changes from David Lee Roth and dixie chicks. Musically, we crank the new Hoof, Satan, Destructor, Abigail, Lantern, Witch Taint (!!) and introduce TX deathsters Torture Tomb in our "Indie Spotlight"! Horns up and Stay Healthy! Witch Taint's Lance the King of Black Metal and Matthias Backwards, aka Dave Hill and Phil Costello, join the show this week. We discuss the origin of the band's name, how they constantly have to prove how metal they are, how the slang words for "taint" differ by region, their ongoing beef with death metal, why worshipping Satan in your sleep is vital for being a true black metal artist, why you can't do pilates on camera and be in an extreme metal band, why they play first instead of last when they headline shows, and why they aren't concerned with promoting anything despite being on social media and YouTube. Petar, Brandon, and Sylvia discuss the new venue that is being built with social distancing guidelines in mind, Corey Taylor's choice for his favorite Slipknot song, and Tommy Lee's new face tattoos. Songs: Witch Taint - "Sons of Satan" and "Death to Death Metal"
Dave Hill is a comedian, author, musician, actor, podcaster and part-Canadian. A very small part, granted, but his intentions are good. In his latest book, Parking the Moose, the Cleveland-born, New York-residing Hill travels across the frozen tundra to better learn about his grandfather's people. He quizzes me on the book and I quiz him on some important Canadian trivia. He also discusses Norway's darlings Witch Taint. Recorded July 5, 2020.
Nick is joined by his friend, musician Dean Rispler for a conversation about Dean's musical background of playing with NYC bands like the Dictators and Karen Black, 80s classic cinema, seeing Dwight Yoakam at CBGB's, what will life be post-pandemic?, and more! Black metal is one corner of music where outcasts always find community. For too long now, however, the artists occupying that realm have existed on pedestals no average person could hope to reach. Witch Taint signals a change that black metal desperately needs. Formed in 2004, the band crafts heavy tracks for regular people with normal jobs and everyday anxieties. The band speaks for the fans of the genre, those who need to maintain one foot in the world of black metal and one foot in the mundanity of an average existence, and commands them to embrace their fandom. Witch Taint wants people to live a black metal lifestyle instead of merely being fans, and they provide the perfect soundtrack for conversion with their debut album, Sons of Midwestern Darkness (out April 10 through Tee Pee Records). On this episode of Inside Music, host James Shotwell speaks to Witch Taint co-founder Lance The King of Black Metal about his group's unique approach heaviness. The pair also explore the origins of Witch Taint and why it took sixteen years for the band to release their first album.
