Raised in Canada by Syrian refugee parents, Yaser has performed at legendary comedy clubs like The Comedy Store and Hollywood Improv. In this episode, Yaser opens up about the impact of his mother's memoir, Just Five Minutes, and how it shaped his perspective on storytelling, survivor's guilt, and advocacy. He dives into the struggles of Arab comedians in the industry, the resilience of Palestinians, and the fine line between “showing off” and “marketing” in entertainment. Plus, we get deep into comedy, relationships, and his love for long, Oscar-worthy films.

The tragic case of Amina and Sarah Said is a harrowing example of so-called "honor killings," rooted in control, abuse, and a twisted sense of family honor. For years, their father, Yaser Abdel Said, maintained a strict, oppressive hold over the girls' lives, monitoring their every move and subjecting them to physical and emotional abuse. In 2008, this relentless control culminated in their murders, casting a spotlight on the lethal consequences of honor-based violence and the terror of living under a tyrannical parent. Our other podcast: "FEARFUL" - https://open.spotify.com/show/56ajNkLiPoIat1V2KI9n5c?si=OyM38rdsSSyyzKAFUJpSywMERCH:https://www.redbubble.com/people/wickedandgrim/shop?asc=uPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/wickedandgrim?fan_landing=trueYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@wickedlifeFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/wickedandgrim/ Instagram:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wickedandgrim/?hl=enTwitter: https://twitter.com/wickedandgrimWebsite: https://www.wickedandgrim.com/ Hosted on Acast. The fighting and funerals in the Israel and Hamas war are constant. Thousands have been killed. The number of fatalities don't tell the real stories though. In recent days, the OS team has been reaching out to people on both sides who have lost loved ones in the war; inviting them to tell the stories of those killed. Next week's programme will feature Israeli families. This edition, hosted by James Reynolds, is a conversation with two Palestinians who now live in Scotland and Turkey. Yousef Almqayyad in Istanbul, had to have a heartbreaking discussion with his seven-year-old daughter about the deaths in his family. “Your grandfather, your grandmother, your uncles and aunts and your cousins, right now are in heaven, in a good place,” he said. “Better than Gaza, better than Turkey, better than any place in this world. I told her they are waiting for us.” Dr Ibrahim Khadra also shares his final conversation with a member of his family in Gaza, who said: “If we'll survive, we'll pray to God and if I'll die just pray for me.” “It was our last call,” said Dr Khadra. Yaser Martini, father of five children, shares the heartbreaking story of his daughter, Margot, who passed away from a rare form of leukemia. In the midst of their grief, Yaser and his wife, Vicki, founded Team Margot, a charity dedicated to promoting blood, organ, stem cell, and bone marrow donation. Through their advocacy work, the couple raises awareness and encourages others to register as donors. Yaser's dedication to helping others stems from his personal experience and the challenges his family faced in finding a bone marrow match for Margot. Despite the tragedy, Yaser remains committed to supporting families caring for child cancer patients through grants provided by the charity. His efforts have recently been recognized with a British Empire Medal, although Yaser humbly acknowledges the award while emphasizing that his true reward is making a difference in the lives of others.

Peter Ludwig, Co-Founder & CTO, Applied Intuition and Yaser Khalighi, Product, Applied Intuition joined Grayson Brulte on The Road to Autonomy podcast to discuss the acquisition of SceneBox and why everything that moves will be autonomous in the future. The conversation begins with Yaser discussing why he made the decision to sell SceneBox to Applied Intuition in March 2023.The vision of building SceneBox, my vision was enabling customers in their autonomy journey. The reason that we exited to Applied was exactly to double down on that vision. – Yaser KhalighApplied is in the process of integrating SceneBox into their product offering, while retaining the user-friendliness of the SceneBox platform. The ultimate goal is that it's a completely seamless experience in what we call the ADP (Applied Development Platform). – Peter LudwigThe integrated SceneBox / Applied product offering will help autonomous vehicles and autonomous trucks scale safely and quickly. To further enhance the Applied product, Applied acquired Embark Trucks for $71 million in August 2023. Prior to the acquisition, Embark was a long-time Applied customer. With the acquisition we are discontinuing the autonomy trucking program, we are not entering Level 4 trucking. But we are going to be able to repurpose the tools they had built around the Applied development platform, and in fact bring some of those into our platform were it makes sense. – Peter LudwigThe data that Applied acquired from Embark will help their customers accelerate the development of their autonomous driving stack for Class-8 trucks. When it comes to training a virtual driver, unique data sets are needed to train the driver. Data gathered for Class-8 trucks can not necessarily be translated over to a developing a virtual driver for robotaxi operations.Taking a step out of the virtual world, Applied is has a partnership with NI (National Instruments) for hardware-in-the-loop validation. This partnership will allow their customers to scale quickly and safely and puts Applied ahead if and when certifications for autonomous driving systems become required by regulatory bodies. Wrapping up the conversation, Peter and Yaser share their opinions on the future of autonomy.Follow The Road To Autonomy on Apple PodcastsFollow The Road to Autonomy on Spotify Follow The Road To Autonomy on LinkedInFollow The Road To Autonomy on TwitterRecorded on Tuesday, August 15, 2023See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

On January 1, 2008, Yaser Said murdered his two teenage daughters, Sarah and Amina, in Texas. He would later say that he was upset that his daughters were dating American boys and that they were becoming too westernized. Yaser escaped capture with the help of family members but was eventually apprehended and held responsible for his crimes. Join Mike and Morf as they discuss the acts committed by Said and what he has referred to as honor killings. Yaser Said was reported to be abusive to his wife and children. His wife Patricia left the home with the children on multiple occasions, but she later said that Yaser threatened to kill her family if she didn't return. Were these murders honor killings, as Yaser has claimed, or did he say that to try to justify these unthinkable acts?
