This is a great method of understanding their perspective and you talk them through further steps. This also allows you to make improvements from finding out these problems that people are having so you can make sure they don't reoccur. We go on to speak about the two main aspects of a business being traffic and sales. Having been in e-commerce since 2003, Chloë's speciality is solving e-commerce Marketing Problems.Stating an e-commerce business has never been easier than it is today. There are multiple systems (Squarespace, Shopify & Wix) that allow you to set up an e-commerce shop in a short period of time. But it's still not as easy as it may seem. There are a lot of things you need to consider in the early stages. You shouldn't start an e-commerce business for the sake of it. In order to be successful, you have to start up because you have an amazing product idea, are identifying a problem you want to solve, or have a customer group that you will serve. It will be incredibly hard to start if you don't fall into one of these categories. We go on to speak about the importance of having an initial research stage, as this will help you design your product and brand. Feedback is so important. You need to be getting your product or service informant of people and asking questions such as, would you buy it, their thoughts and cost. These opinions will help when it comes to marketing your brand as you will have a clear strategy.Stay safe and enjoy the episode.A huge thank you to Campaign Refinery for sponsoring this episode. This week's episode is all about content creation strategy. I'm joined by Ashley J. Saunders, founder of AJS Digital Group, a media company with over a decade of experience in digital marketing. AJ has also launched an eBook publishing company, a global e-commerce shop, and started the current brands in the AJS Digital Group's portfolio. We speak about the basic foundations for a good content creation strategy and some tips that people can start implementing right away. One simple idea is to think about the common questions that your customers ask you and then create content based on these questions. This could easily give you up to a year's worth of content. Think also about your business processes and the steps you take in delivering your product or service. Each step could be a piece of content too. When creating content, it is important that you use a variety of media and not rely heavily on text. Your content shouldn't look like an essay for school, otherwise, readers will lose interest. A good way to mix this up is by using images and short videos. It's important to be active, especially for those that haven't done tasks such as podcasting or blogging before. This week's episode is all about smartphone video marketing. I'm joined by Daryl Cygler, founder of Smartphone Video Marketing, the business that teaches SMB owners how to start and scale their video marketing efforts without the need for video production companies and expensive film equipment. As technology is evolving our capability to create content has increased massively. All you need is a smartphone nowadays. When filming, you should always be giving the perception of professionalism meaning that your videos should be high quality. This does mean that you will have to invest in some affordable equipment and keep some factors in mind. Some of the ways you can raise your smartphone video marketing production to the next level: Stabilising your shots through using a tripodMaking sure your audio is clear by using a micEnsuring that there is enough light behind the camera facing the subject being recordedYou need to make sure your shots are as stable as they can possibly be. The second element is audio. This is just as important as the quality of the video. Using a mic will mean that everything you say will be picked up clearly and there should be limited background noise. Lighting is so important when it comes to filming. Having either natural light or artificial light in front of the subject, behind the camera, will ensure that everything shows up clearly when recording. Understanding these layers of perception and quality, and combining those two together, will mean you should have a really slick production. We go on to speak about some of the starting points and ideas for SMB's that want to create video content. You want to tell a visual story in a professional way. This weeks episode is all about loyalty marketing. I'm joined by Paula Thomas, creator & host of the Let's Talk Loyalty podcast. Paula is a loyalty marketing expert with over twenty years of experience delivering tangible results for some of the world's top brands. The show is targeted at industry professionals who specialise in creating, running and optimising marketing programmes that drive customer loyalty.Loyalty, when it comes to customers, is often thought about as gift cards or stamps to get a free product. It is a lot more than that. It's all about how you look after your customers. For online businesses, this can be a challenge as you aren't always in front of them, but there are ways you can add value. Email marketing is still a well-proven tool to build this relationship with your customers and adding new formats of content such as video or audio can set you apart from the competitors. You need to be making a connection with your customers. This is easily achieved when there is flexibility. Another proven loyalty scheme are reward points. The flexibility offered by the points system depends on the provider. Some business have had to adapt during the pandemic, for example, airlines. They are now offering other products, in addition to the flights, where you can spend your points. Another form of flexibility is partnering with brands. This will allow the customers to transfer their benefits over and use them in a different way.Community is a really big opportunity to drive loyalty. It's all about the mindset of giving something to the people that you value, who support your business, and in doing so, making them feel like they are part of something bigger. You should always be trying to do your best for your customers and doing it in a way that makes sense to them, not just what makes sense to you financially.Stay safe and enjoy the episode.A huge thank you to Campaign Refinery for sponsoring this episode. His podcast helps coaches and entrepreneurs in the health and wellness industry create audiences for their businesses. David also works with health and wellness coaches so they can spread messages of improvement, positivity and growth through podcasting. David and his team have accompanied podcasters through the production and release of over a thousand episodes.Everyone has a community online. Creating a podcast is a great way to develop and build this community and also find more of your ideal clients. A lot of people start podcasts for the wrong reasons as they're thinking about the revenue side. A podcast is meant for relationships, it's a long term strategy. It's an opportunity to meet and connect with people and businesses that you normally wouldn't have worked with. Another eye-opening feature of podcasts is that you get to have conversations with specialists and discover new perspectives about topics that you wouldn't normally. We then go on to speak about the key things to keep in mind when starting your podcast. One of the most important being the need to define your audience. The better you get to understand your target audience, the more value you can offer them. You don't have to be constantly thinking of new ideas for your podcast. There are a few ways you can find this content that people online are specifically looking for. Many people forget about this. Creating content that the audience needs and that solves their problems is very valuable as you know you've got an audience for it. The same questions that keep being asked are the same problems that more people are facing. How do we find these questions? By scanning the comments section of social media, YouTube and similar platforms, you can gauge what people online are looking for. From looking at this you can extract the common issues and base your ideas on these suggestions and questions. Another resource for your content is answering the questions that your clients and customers have around your business.Stay safe and enjoy the episode.A huge thank you to Campaign Refinery for sponsoring this episode. This week's episode is all about SERP features. I'm joined by Diana Richardson, Social Media Manager at SEMrush. Diana has a wealth of experience in digital marketing from her previous roles. She learned SEO and PPC from the ground alongside Google and Bing as they evolved. Diana used SEMrush in her previous roles and has been a huge advocate of the tool.SEMrush is an all-in-one suite of tools for improving online visibility and discovering marketing insights. The tool is suitable for marketers that work in the following services: SEO, PPC, SMM, Keyword Research, Competitive Research, PR, Content Marketing, Marketing Insights, Campaign Management and Social Media. Basically everyone. A key feature that sets it apart from other tools thought is its data visualisation. The acronym SERP stands for Search Engine Results Page. A SERP feature is everything on the search results page except the organic links and the paid ads. They are the enhancements you see when using Google. Search engines will continually test and update the features on these pages to make sure they are providing the best user experience.SERP features also give you a great opportunity to be present on the first page without having to battle for organic results. The way search engines work is that they crawl the internet and pull through content that is the most relevant. You need to make sure that you have content in the first place with the most relevant keywords. So if your content and keywords aren't, then you're not going to be present. We go on to speak about the things you can do to make sure that your content is being found. By including engaging multimedia and making sure you're answering questions, you can gain more interaction and help appear higher up on search engines. Another tip would be to make your content and website as clean and accessible as possible so that both people and search engines can recognise this. User experience plays a huge part in how long people spend on a website and where it will rank.Stay safe and enjoy the episode.A huge thank you to Campaign Refinery for sponsoring this episode. She is also a partner and producer of The Event Planning Expo, New York City's largest events and hospitality industry trade show.Erica is now dedicated to helping her clients adjust from in-person events to virtual event experiences. In December, she successfully produced 65 virtual events. Her client roster includes BuzzFeed, Columbia Records, The Robin Hood Foundation, Smile Train, Pitchbook, Twitter, Google, and many more. The pandemic has caused a shift in the way we live our lives causing us to adapt to the new normal. The Events industry was heavily affected. In-person events always used to be an exciting experience that could extend your network of contacts or entice you to sample food and drinks. There was always an engaging factor. The whole process of how we host events has changed. We have had to reevaluate the purpose and objectives of the event. It's more important than ever to have the audience's attention by showcasing value. This way you can get everyone involved and make them feel like they're part of something bigger. Hosting virtually can initially be challenging but there are so many ways you can do this. A few different suggestions for virtual events that we found effective included coffee meetings, dinners and live entertainment. It doesn't matter if you're a startup business or a major corporation, all these things are easy to set up. By sending vouchers for food or drinks it's possible to meet up virtually over a coffee, drink or meal. By using courier services the meeting can be in the comfort of your home or workplace. For team building activities you can be more adventurous by hosting quizzes, karaoke or magic tricks. There are so many tools and platforms available that can be used for events in order to create a better experience. The reality is with some of these platforms there's a learning curve so people tend to stick to the most popular choice, Zoom, since it is easy to use. It also has the advantage to be customised so this can suit your event.Stay safe and enjoy the episode.A huge thank you to Campaign Refinery for sponsoring this episode. In his previous role, 9 years at LinkedIn, he served customers like Accenture, JPMorgan Chase, Johnson & Johnson, PespsiCo, Hershey's and IBM. He is highly skilled in sharing best practices and an expert in social media recruitment, sales and marketing strategies. We speak about encouraging employee engagement on social media as this can be very powerful. It can be a challenge to get employees to "buy-in" and actually share your content. You will need to explain the reasons why their support will benefit the company and also themselves. Sharing will help the company by increasing reach, creating new leads and more sales opportunities. For the employees, it will raise their professional profile and by sharing thought leadership, industry news, and company content, you can become an expert within your network. We then go on to speak about LinkedIn's owned, earned and paid audiences and the difference between each one. Owned audience is your channel (company or personal) and organic reach. You will not have to pay for these as it's part of your ecosystem. Earned is the most valuable audience. If you earn it, you didn't have to pay for it. This is your network and the networks of employees. The employees are connected to your customers and prospects. They're the assets of the company. Paid is when you put ads in front of specific people getting them to take a specific action for a chosen duration of time. The platform will give you information on the size of the audience and how much it's going to cost you. When posting content, we need to be adding value. It's about keeping the conversation going with the people that matter most. This is called evergreen marketing, or an evergreen channel, which is always on, that's why it's evergreen. Posting and sharing content that is of value from your company will appeal more to your audience because employees content is twice as trusted as the brand. This will be shared with their network and more importantly, people they know and trust.Stay safe and enjoy the episode.A huge thank you to Campaign Refinery for sponsoring this episode. Mercer (as he’s known) is a sought after measurement marketing expert and has been helping marketers, marketing teams, and agencies know, trust, and grow their numbers. It is so important for all businesses, especially SMEs, to know their numbers and how they're getting results. Most people don't fully understand this, but once you understand it, you will have more clarity. You can then start to plan ahead and be more certain of what's going to happen.Tools such as Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager are hugely powerful when it comes to measuring your marketing. With all this power, comes a lot of complexity. When you're not 100% sure where to gather the right information, it can be a real challenge. It's worth investing some time so that you understand the basics and have them set up for use.We go on to speak about using the source medium report in Google Analytics as this has everything you need right away all in one report. When you learn this one report and understand how to use it to tell a story, the rest of the platform should be a lot easier to navigate. All our marketing efforts should be objective-driven. You need to make sure that you've got a goal in mind. You should only be sending traffic to your site with a purpose in mind. You need to be able to measure it if it's achieving its purpose. This enables you to see the process and understand where you need to adjust what you're doing if it's not going to plan. It’s one of the reasons he pioneered contact management and CRM with GoldMine in the '90s, a company he sold for $125 million.  He re-entered the workforce in 2010 and then launched the first social CRM, Nimble. Jon’s core values are building products that help others achieve their passion, plan, and purpose. It's what drives his success. We go on to discuss how should we be using CRM to really understand the benefits of a relationship with a customer or supplier. "You need to think about the contacts that you already have as your gold, and the more investment you make in those contacts, the more gold you get out of the mine." A good way to start would be to organise your existing contacts, prioritise them and then begin to nurture and engage with them. This doesn't have to be all via email. People tend to get higher engagement on social media. We should all have our own personal contact management solution, in addition to our networks and our brands. Most people don't really do a good job of nurturing their brand or their network. Unifying your contacts into a singular place enables you to engage them on a regular basis and to manage your contacts more effectively. That's what lead her to DanAds. DanAds is on a mission to democratise ad buying for SMEs all over the world through building self-serve advertising platforms.Self-serve ads are a great way for smaller businesses to advertise as anyone is able to use them and you don't need assistance from a sales representative. You need to invest a little time to understand them. Paying an expert who understands these platforms will eat into your budget. We go on to discuss the DanAds platform that enables you to set up self-serve ads on a variety of big publishers that might be more suitable for your business. Today's episode is all about the concept of "2 weeks ahead is good for your head". We never want to be rushing around and desperately trying to create content. This is a big No. When content is done quickly at the last minute, it usually has mistakes or other issues. It won't be thought out properly and is not actually going to take us towards our objectives.Think about the effect on you, your brand, and most importantly, your audience.Another issue is when you go on to a business's social media page and try to find information and notice that they haven't posted for a month or more. This creates confusion, especially now with everything that's happened over the last year with a lot of businesses, unfortunately, having closed. It doesn't look good for the business. To make sure that we're never on the back-foot we like to plan to be 2 weeks ahead. That's going to help your brand get recognised. When people see your content they will form links to your business and know what you're about. That is the key. That's why we should be posting consistently. By planning and always being two weeks ahead, you take away the pressure for you and the chance that your audience will forget who you are.Having that baseline content and adding on top of that is going to be far more powerful than having no content planned and trying to add things on the day. There is a lot you can not say. When it comes to Life Science and Pharmaceutical marketing you have to be very careful. The general rule of thumb is that you can talk about yourself but making comparisons is a real issue. This can get you in trouble with the regulators or even worse, a federal organisation. There's often a misconception that you need someone to do marketing and to make sure that you're posting on social media. Many small business owners fall into this trap. We go on to speak about small businesses choosing between hiring somebody in-house as the first and only marketing employee or choosing an agency that is suited to your requirements. We also discuss some of the benefits and challenges of both approaches. When it comes to hiring there are other costs in addition to the salary, experience and demands on the individual that need to be understood. When going with an agency, you won't have the response time compared to that of in-house. Don't get caught up in the need of having the perfect system. Today's episode is all about content calendars. There are a couple of schools of thought on why they are a phenomenal tool and every small business should be using one. You've probably heard all about them, but what exactly are they and how should you be using them?1. It's an advanced plan for your content creation.Content Calendars, also known as editorial calendars, give you the ability to be on top of things and plan your content so that you don't miss anything. They enable you to view a schedule of when and where you are posting content. Key dates can be easily forgotten so using this method really helps you identify the dates. You can maximise key days, for example, Mothers day, Black Friday, anniversaries, for your business, and work anniversaries for your team.2. Content themes.Having the ability to plan and forward think your content gives you the chance to create content themes either weekly or monthly. An example of this is spending a whole week talking about a specific product or service. Using a content calendar is a great way to create niche content for a specific amount of time.So how complex a content calendar should you create? We would advise you to use the KISS acronym:Keep It Simple, Stupid! The simpler it is the more likely you are to use it. This can be an Excel file or a Google Sheet to get you started. All you would need to do is add in your relevant dates and start creating content so you can get it scheduled well in advance of the publish date. This will keep you on top of your content creation, scheduling and posting. If you want a simple to use content calendar, head over to Socialink.co and grab yours free today. And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us on social media @allaboutdigmarI hope you all stay safe. He got into Google Ads as a mentor of his built and sold a multimillion-dollar company realising that there's something special there. He now uses this knowledge to help businesses complete their marketing goals.Google is one of the most popular search engines and has so much data available. As business owners, this information comes in very handy. We are able to use it in order to understand what people are searching for and how they behave online. When it comes to SEO and keywords, it's very easy to get into the old methodology of keyword stuffing. A lot of people don't know or understand what the implications of this can be. Also, negative keyword lists are so important and you should research this for your industry. We also talk about the importance of having a journey mapped out for your potential customer. If you are trying to drive people to your website for a specific reason, you shouldn't be sending them to the homepage or an overview page. Today's episode is all about creating content. We talk about it all the time. You've no doubt heard "content is king". Gary Vee even talks about creating 100 pieces of content every day.The reality for most of us is that it's just not possible. It's hard enough to create a couple of pieces of content per week let alone per day. So when it comes to creating content, what should you be doing? Here's something to think about.Would you prefer to have one piece of content, that people really engage with, that they watch, share, like and comment on, or would you rather post 5 times a day without any real purpose? Our marketing efforts should always be objective-driven, although most people forget about this when it comes to social media content. Posting on social media for the sake of it is a waste of time. You should be trying to provide real value or insight to your target audience through your content.Once you understand the 3 fundamental points below, you can set about planning what content you want to create.Where does your ideal audience hang out? (Which platforms?)What sort of content do they like to consume? (Types of media?)What are their issues/problems that your company is trying to solve? Today’s episode is all about engagement security. Making sure we are secure when being online is so important, especially when more people than ever are working from home.I'm joined by Kathleen Booth, the VP of Marketing at clean.io, the market leader in digital engagement security solutions. They are used by businesses looking to optimize their revenue and buyer experience by taking back control over third-party code on their websites. Before joining clean.io, she spent 13 years in the digital marketing agency world, first as Owner and CEO of Quintain Marketing and then as VP of Marketing at IMPACT.Kathleen is the host of the long-running Inbound Success Podcast and was named by TopRank as one of the 50 Top B2B Marketing Influencers of 2019.We talk about the fact that as marketers we're not taught about cybersecurity. We need to be aware of the issues and the risks that are associated with an online presence. A safer social experience can be provided through websites as there is more control over this platform.Social Media can suffer from the same vulnerabilities but more so since we don't have control over these platforms. An example is you don't have control of a platform getting hacked, but you can implement 2 Factor Authentication. These are just the basics. One of the risks we can encounter is social engineering, a malicious activity designed to trick people online into giving away sensitive information such as passwords. There are some simple steps you can take to protect yourself such as cybersecurity training and implementing policies internally.I hope you all stay safe. Today’s episode is all about formatting graphic posts for social media. With a wide range of social platforms, keeping up with the formats can be a challenge.Understanding the platform your target audience are using will provide a better social experience. Each platform has many features, new ways to post, share and create content. All of these can be leveraged by repurposing content to other formats and platforms.Once you know what platform you’re going to use, you can then start to focus on the content. How you format graphics is different for each platform. This means that the format you post on one platform may not be suitable for another. Here’s a quick cheat sheet to help you out.A quick win, when you don’t have a lot of time to create multiple variations of one image, is to use square graphics. This format works on pretty much all the platforms. It’s a quick win if you haven’t got the time to create multiple versions of the same graphics.Stay safe and enjoy the episode. Episode 124 - A Slight Disruption To Our Usual Program

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 8, 2021 10:30

Today's episode is a little bit different. Yep, "again?" I hear you say. But it really is. You've probably noticed a bit of disruption to the podcast recently. Fewer episodes going live, not our usual cadence of 2 episodes per week, and maybe even I've been sounding a little under the weather for lack of a better description. Well, all of that comes down to feeling pretty much fed up with the current situation. Lockdown here in the UK is now well into week 9 (I think - I can't even remember) and along the way, it's become harder and harder to stay energised, to look after myself and continue to produce more and more content. So I've decided to take a step back. Take a little time away. Refocus my attention, and try to make sure that I give myself some time to re-energise. If you've been feeling like this, I hope you now know that you are not alone. In a large number of conversations I've had recently, A LOT of people are feeling the same way. But it's as if we're not really supposed to talk about it. Like it's some kind of taboo subject. Or that if you tell your audience you're struggling, they'll simply run away from you and never come back. I disagree. Rather than trying to cover up what's going on, I wanted to talk about it. Instead of pretending I'm too busy, or that life is too awesome, I'd prefer to share the reality with you. These last 9 weeks have been brutal. The monotony, and repetition of a daily routine, without much interaction, have proven very hard. I've done my best to look after myself and along the way, I've experienced ups and downs. Well, I've reached that point now where I just need to take some time away from everything. Re-assess my goals, objectives and where I want to focus. Take some time to build up my energy stores and be able to come back with a new focus and energy. So that's what I'm doing. Hopefully, all of you will understand, and in 10 days or so when we come back, you'll be here ready to check out the new episodes and to continue to listen, learn and enjoy the podcast. If not, that's ok too. If you don't look after yourself, you definitely can't look after anyone else. And that's the position I'm now in. If you're feeling the same way, I'm happy to chat. You can hit us up on any of our social channels, links below, and I'd be happy to talk to you about it too. in the meantime, look after yourself, those around you and stay strong. We'll see you soon. Episode 122 - Useful Tools To Create Better Video Content

Today's episode is all about making better video content. We're all looked down here in Europe, and especially in the UK. LoFi video (video content that you can make yourself) has become stock in trade for a lot of us. In our previous episode, we talked about what LoFi video is, today we're talking about how you can improve the quality of your videos. I started off only wanting to detail 3 things that we use on a regular basis to create content. In the end, I covered 4. 1. BigVu - it's an app and it's very simply a teleprompter for your iPhone. It's the perfect app if you don't feel confident to just talk to the camera, and you prefer to work off a script. 2. Phone holder and ring light clamp - this is a cheap and effective way of improving the quality of your video 10 fold (notice I didn't say 10X). 3. EpocCam - by El Gato - This is a tiny piece of software that you can install on Mac and PC - and an app that you can install on your phone. Together, they allow you to use your smartphone as a webcam. Most iPhones today are far better quality than even the best webcams. 4. Rode VideoMic Me-L - This is an iPhone (lightning connector) directional microphone. This will upgrade the quality of your sound massively. (apologies, it's £66, not £40-something).That's it for today. If you're creating video content, we'd love to hear what you're up to, and if you're not sure how to get started, simply reach out to us on social media and ask. We're always here to help. Episode 121 - What Is Lo-Fi Video?

Today's episode is all about LoFi video. If you're not sure what that means, don't worry, that's what we're here to help with today. LoFi video is simply video content that can be created simply, cheaply and very easily. The Superbowl happened last week. That's the perfect example of big-budget video creation for brands. The Superbowl ads are a BIG thing every year. Brands compete to come up with the best idea possible, and they then throw MILLIONS of dollars at agencies, stars and production studios to make it possible. Lo-Fi video is the complete opposite of that. It's clever and insightful content that can be created by you, at home or at work, using simple tools like your phone or your laptop. For example, have you noticed how Sky News relies pretty much exclusively now on Zoom or Skype calls to run interviews? You can use LoFi video to do the exact same thing for your business. You can create simple, but effective content about who you are and what you're business does, simply by recording yourself talking about it. Check out today's episode and if you're stuck coming up with ideas contact us on social media and we'll share some of the videos we've helped create for businesses around the UK. Today's episode is all about partnerships. How can your business develop partnerships that are not only profitable for both parties, but also for your customers and audience? We're joined by Adam King, the first of our guests to return to the podcast. Partnership is a term that's often bound around without understanding the true potential it provides us all with. From affiliate deals to co-authored content, introductions to referrals partnerships come in all shapes and sizes. The best partnerships you'll build are the ones that symbiotically help everyone involved. It's not just about partnerships today. I asked Adam to come back on the podcast for another reason too. He recently made some bold decisions for his business and most importantly his podcast. After more than one hundred episodes, he rebranded. Now that's something a lot of people would be scared to do. I strongly recommend you check out The B2B Growth Think Tank. Why did he rebrand? That's exactly why I brought him on. To tell his story, and to remind you that it's ok to pivot your business. You see, trying something once, and saying it doesn't work simply isn't a good strategy. As with most things in life you need to consistently show up. Doing something, again and again, to make sure that it has a fair chance of actually getting some results. And then, and this is the really hard part for most of us, you need patience. Guess what? It's not going to happen overnight. There are no overnight success stories that don't start with years of effort and hard work. At least none that I know of.
