With the decline of third-party cookies and the rise of privacy regulations like GDPR and iOS updates, understanding what truly drives conversions is more challenging than ever. So, how can marketers prove ROI when many traditional tracking tools no longer apply? I recently sat down with Jeff Greenfield, CEO of Provalytics - an AI-driven attribution platform built for the cookieless era. With over 30 years of marketing experience, Jeff shared what's actually working today - and how HR and HR tech businesses can apply these insights to drive real growth. In a wide-ranging discussion, Jeff and I talked about: ✅ How GDPR and cookie changes are reshaping ad measurement. ✅ The challenge of “walled gardens” like Google and Meta. ✅ Why last-click attribution misrepresents customer journeys. ✅ How Provalytics uses AI to fill tracking gaps. ✅ The strategic shift from click-based to impression-based metrics. ✅ Risks of undervaluing top-of-funnel marketing. ✅ Jeff's advice on how companies can adapt with better data and tools. ✅ And much more. Learn how accurate attribution tracking transforms marketing results Look, let's face it - guesswork is the cancer of all business. As I always tell my clients at Predictable Profits, you need to eliminate that guesswork with proper data. That's why I invited Michael Cooney, co-founder of WhatConverts, onto the podcast. I've had multiple agency clients rave about this tool that's helping them generate better results and higher ROAS for their clients. We dive deep into why native conversion pixels from Meta or Google fall short, how to properly value different types of leads, and why understanding the complete customer journey is critical for making smart marketing decisions. My guest today, Michael Cooney, built WhatConverts after running his own agency for over 20 years. He experienced firsthand the frustration of trying to prove marketing ROI to skeptical clients who couldn't see the full picture. When a client once said to him, "These leads seem like they're from existing customers, not marketing," Michael realized he needed a better solution - a truth-seeking tool that would reveal exactly which marketing efforts were driving valuable conversions. That's when WhatConverts was born, and it's now tracking over 4 million leads per month across industries. KEY TAKEAWAYS: The limitations of standard conversion tracking How dynamic number insertion works The complexity of modern buyer journeys Issues with standard cookie windows The importance of data-driven decision making WhatConverts' six-step process Proper troubleshooting for underperforming campaigns Value-based pricing for marketers Links: LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelcooney/ Twitter:https://twitter.com/mc_cooney Email:michael.cooney@whatconverts.com Company Website:https://www.whatconverts.com/ Growing your business is hard, but it doesn't have to be. Brief Description of Episode This week, our host Brandi Starr welcomes Zeke Camusio, the innovative mind behind Data Speaks.  Meet Zeke Camusio, a seasoned entrepreneur and founder of an AI-powered analytics platform that's revolutionizing how companies interpret data to drive growth. With a robust background in economics and data science, Zeke has spent the last two decades crafting AI and data analytics solutions, empowering businesses across industries to make informed, data-driven decisions. In this insightful episode of Revenue Rehab, Brandi and Zeke delve into the intricacies of marketing attribution. They'll explore how businesses can effectively utilize data and AI to discern which marketing strategies truly fuel sales growth and how to optimally allocate resources to elevate their marketing efforts.  Bullet Points of Key Topics + Chapter Markers: Topic #1 Importance of Marketing Attribution [03:03] Zeke Camusio emphasizes the significance of understanding marketing attribution by stating, "being able to identify what is going to create the biggest impact for my business, you know, then allows you to focus. And that little focus and concentrating your resources is really what moves companies forward more than anything else." He articulates that the goal of attribution is not about "you versus me," but rather about helping organizations optimally allocate resources. Topic #2 Challenges with Traditional Attribution Models [07:32] Zeke discusses the limitations of traditional attribution methods, explaining, "the problem is when we look at the amount of revenue that say, for example, Google Ads is claiming... you got one sale, not three." He points out that existing data from advertising platforms is often unreliable, with multiple platforms claiming credit for a single conversion, which leads to overestimated return on investment from certain marketing channels.  Topic #3 Incrementality and Impact-Based Attribution [15:38] Zeke introduces the concept of incrementality as a solution to flawed attribution practices: "Incrementality is basically the marketing lingo for a randomized control trial, which is you have a control group and a treatment group." He describes using geographic segmentation to measure actual impacts on sales and how this method can result in "statistical relevance" without disrupting business operations, allowing for more accurate budgeting decisions. What's One Thing You Can Do Today Zeke's ‘One Thing' is to adopt a scientific approach by consistently sitting with your data. “Even though you don't have an attribution platform or a team of data scientists, creating the habit of sitting with your data once a week is really key. So, you need a consistent schedule and you need to agree before going into it what metrics you're going to be looking at. You need one primary metric and between three and five secondary metrics. You decide on these and look at the trends consistently.” This practice helps you begin to understand the data's story, paving the way for informed decisions based on emerging patterns and trends. By honing this habit, you strengthen your foundation in using data to optimize performance, even without advanced infrastructure. Buzzword Banishment Zeke's Buzzword to Banish is the phrase ‘circle back'. Zeke wants to banish this phrase because he finds it "not concrete enough." He emphasizes the importance of specificity in communication and prefers when people say, "I don't know and I will get back to you," while being specific about the next steps and timeline. We would drown. We're looking for, I think, clarity. We're not necessarily looking for everything.” – Lena Waters“You're going to have to have conviction and a hypothesis and a belief about what is true, and you should still use data to try to refute that or gather evidence against it. But, you're going to have many fewer situations where the data's going to be like, ‘Here's the path forward.' Guess what? That's not going to happen. I think the more that we embrace that, we're going to be more successful in one or two years when a lot of this visibility is actually gone.” – Eric Weber-------------------Episode Timestamps:‍*(03:14) - How data and marketing work together at Grammarly*(05:30) - Trends impacting customer experience*(22:45) - How Grammarly is measuring effectiveness in a cookieless world*(29:13) - How marketers can address the overreliance on data and dashboards*(36:34) - How Grammarly is using AI*(43:32) - Lena and Eric's advice for upleveling marketing and data strategies-------------------Links:Connect with Lena on LinkedInConnect with Eric on LinkedInConnect with Kailey on LinkedInLearn more about Caspian Studios-------------------SponsorGood Data, Better Marketing is brought to you by Twilio Segment. Marketing attribution sounds like a great idea. And in theory, it is. Particularly if you're selling directly to customers via an ecommerce page on your website. In many B2B scenarios, though, you're selling through distributors, channel partners or third party websites. It's not easy to track a buyer from the moment they first interact with your brand, all the way until they buy a product. When you encourage your customers to purchase from a partner, that customer will - at some point - leave your brand ecosystem. So the trick for B2B marketers is to identify a conversion point that gives a strong buying signal in your system. And then evaluate your marketing effectiveness on reaching that conversion point. In this episode of The Marketing Mix, Steve walks through some approaches to identifying and measuring these conversion points. The first step on the path to building a marketing attribution model.Additional Information:Podcast episode discussing MQLs is here Drink of the Week - a Lodge Negroni

You're spending money on PPC ads, on improving SEO performance, and attending multiple events. How do you know which of these investments is paying off? That's what Marketing Attribution is all about. In this episode of The Marketing Mix, we're talking to Steffen Hedebrandt, CMO and co-founder of Dreamdata, about the importance of marketing attribution for small and mid-sized B2B companies. We discuss the challenges of tracking complex buyer journeys, and the different attribution models that can be used – from First Touch to Last Touch and everything in between. Steffen highlights the importance of data hygiene, and making sure you have your processes set up to collect the right data at the right time.  So that you can then make informed decisions about marketing investments. And we talk about the limitations of Google Analytics for B2B attribution, where understanding account activity is as important as tracking individuals.Key Takeaways:Marketing attribution is about understanding the path or journey your customers take, to then focus on the most successful marketing tactics and scale them effectively. First-Touch Attribution: For B2B, particularly with long sales cycles, the first touch model can be very useful. It highlights the initial marketing activity that brings potential customers into the funnelData Collection: Start logging data as early as possible. Ensure your website is tracked appropriately, salespeople log their interactions in CRM systems, and other digital traces of customer interactions are captured effectively.Tracking Accounts. B2B attribution requires an understanding of Accounts as well as people, which Google Analytics can't handle directly. In today's Shopify Ecommerce Podcast, my guest is Pavel Petrinich the Co-Founder and CRO of SegmentStream.SegmentStream is a Conversion Modelling Platform that helps e-commerce & D2C brands drive more sales by providing them with real-time marketing attribution insights. Marketers rely on attribution data to make informed budget allocation decisions, while ad platforms like Google and Facebook Ads use this information to optimize their auto-bidding and targeting algorithms. However, current analytics tools can no longer provide accurate and timely attribution insights due to modern cookie restrictions and complex customer journeys that involve multiple browsers and devices. SegmentStream stands out from other tools by utilizing its proprietary Conversion Modeling technology to accurately measure the incremental value of each website visit into future, predicted conversions, rather than past conversions. This ensures that each traffic source receives the proper value, even if the actual conversion occurs from another device, browser, or cookie. By evaluating website visits in real-time, marketing teams can identify growth opportunities, and ad platforms receive crucial real-time feedback on the incremental value of each ad click. SegmentStream is an official partner of Meta and Google, as well as trusted by L'Oreal, KitchenAid, Omnicom Media Group, and more than 50 other e-commerce brands and agencies.Building a successful Shopify business requires not only hard work and dedication, but also access to the right information and tooling.
