“Business decision-makers love online video because it gives them the most amount of information in the shortest amount of time.”– Robert Weiss. I think many of you have heard my story about starting my podcast using audio only. Then, one day, my producer shared that she felt I should use video, too. My response was not pretty…lol! I said to her, “You're crazy, and that's never happening.” Well, a few days later, I agreed to start using video. Why did I agree so quickly? Well, because her reasoning was sound. She shared that the more people saw and heard me and got a vibe of who I am and how I roll, the more apt they would be to follow my podcast. This would quickly build the know-like-trust factor, generating more leads and, ultimately, more sales. Here's the funny thing: People started to say yes more quickly during sales conversations; they started following me on LinkedIn and other social media, and when I asked how they found me, the answer was always, "I saw you or heard you on my podcast or as a guest on another podcast. "As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. So, is video your next step in generating more sales? Something that I've always found a little challenging when it comes to the marketing of my business is finding the stories that make what we do compelling. I can be rather a literal person.I know what we do is valuable and our clients appreciate it — but as my business partner, and today's guest is always saying: people connect with stories, and you need to create one that draws people in.One of the ways to do this the most quickly and that sees the highest rates of conversion is by sharing video content for your business and your podcast.Dan Bennet, the creator of Video For Entrepreneurs, has over 15 years in the video production industry and worked with brands like Harley Davidson and Bud Light before forming his company to help entrepreneurs with businesses of all sizes look and feel great on camera. He is joining me today to talk about video and I know I'm not the only person who tends to shy away from it. Anyone who knows me knows that early on I really struggled with building my own platform and accepting the need to grow my own visibility. I'm a naturally shy person and I avoided it for the longest time. Then I launched the podcast - and gradually - whilst travelling the seven circles of hell - found my confidence on video. But it could have been so much easier. So this week I'm thrilled to welcome the guide to becoming comfortable with those seven circles and the guy who could have made that journey 100 times easier - Dan Bennet from the Antipreneur.About DanDan Bennett is the Founder of Video For Entrepreneurs, a platform that helps entrepreneurs & startups learn to look and sound great on video - through coursework, private community membership, 1:1 work and the use of his “Solar System Methodology”. It's easy to think your content will get better if you just have the right gear. Alas, a $1000 camera can't save you if you're not spending time on the content. But that doesn't mean you can't look and sound good. So today brought in Dan Bennett, who's built his business on making people look and sound great on camera. Spoiler alert: This almost never results in buying new gear. Instead, we talk about small tweaks you can make. Then we talk about the growing importance of videos for podcasting. Top Takeaways: Audio is king. If you can only upgrade one thing, make it audio. And remember that you don't need the top-of-the-line mic. In fact, you can sound great on a $40 mic if you have the right technique and environment.Looking good doesn't require an expensive camera. Lighting is a big part of it - get a few white lights and position them properly to give yourself the best possible picture for your camera to capture. Oh, and a little makeup to reduce your face shine goes a long way too.But really, it's about story-telling and getting your reps in. You can't make a good video if you don't make video. So use the best of what you have and start recording! How can we implement Behavioural Science in larger organisations? On this episode, I'm doing a deep dive into practical Behavioural Science with three practitioners from across the globe, who talk about some of the projects they've been working on. My guests are all from Ogilvy Consulting, a leading Behavioural Science practice and each work in different regions.Heather Watson heads up Ogilvy's North American BeSci team from Austin, Texas, Dan Bennett is responsible for the UK and is based in London and Paolo Mercado is in Manila. To connect or learn more about them:Heather - https://www.linkedin.com/in/heathernwatson/Dan - https://www.linkedin.com/in/thebestdanielbennett/Paolo - https://www.linkedin.com/in/paolo-mercado-0a4a8a17/The idea behind the episode is to illustrate the breadth of challenges to which Behavioural Science can be put to use. You'll hear about improving customer experience, protecting people who work in safety-critical industries by helping them to change their behaviour to be more compliant with safety protocols and how Behavioural Science can help improve sales of consumer products. We also explore some of the challenges of deploying Behavioural Science in larger organisations – the obstacles, both practical and political – and the fact that we can sometimes end up proposing counter-intuitive or unorthodox solutions, which work brilliantly but can defy the logic by which normal corporate decisions are made. But that's the whole point. Behavioural Science allows us to come up with effective solutions to common business problems, that can't easily be solved by traditional thinking. It's also an opportunity for us to preview Nudgestock, Ogilvy's annual festival of behavioural science and creativity and get some clues about what you can expect. You can find out more about Nudgestock at www.nudgestock.com To be notified when new episodes of the show are available subscribe to the podcast newsletter: https://www.getrevue.co/profile/humanriskIf you enjoy this episode, you can find my discussions with other members of the Ogilvy BeSci team:Maddie Croucher who talked to me about how BeSci can help fundraising: https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/maddie-croucher-on-behavioural-science-for-fundraising/Sam Tatam introduced his book ‘Evolutionary Ideas' on how Mother Nature can inspire BeSci solutions https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/sam-tatam-on-evolutionary-ideas/Benoit de Fleurian explained how BeSci is helping to reduce anti-social behaviour https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/benoit-de-fleurian-on-preventing/And, last but definitively not least, Rory Sutherland talked about Compliance https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/rory-sutherland-on-compliance/

#029 Dan Bennett went into the woods for 10 days and came back the Antipreneur. After losing everything and filing for bankruptcy, Dan hopped in a camper van and took it to the woods of Michigan. When he emerged, he had an epiphany to take his business helping people record video in their home offices online and scale it. Since then, he's become a go-to expert who helps people tell better stories and look better with their video content. Now, he has a small stable of one-on-one clients, and both DIY and done-with-you offerings. Oh, and a community he's built by becoming a member of other communities and learning the balance between taking and giving, asking and serving—the importance of reciprocity.
