When the much-awaited Swiggy IPO took place in November last year, many HNIs make put in their money into the company. Some made smaller investments of more than Rs 2 lakh and the others who bought stocks for over Rs 10 lakh. But they weren't buying stocks because they believed in the real value or long-term potential of these shares. They bought them because they assumed someone else will buy them at an even higher price. The Ken reporter Suprita spoke to a VP of a Bengaluru-based unicorn. They told him that they just though they were getting a good deal at a discounted price. They even sold off some of their SIPs and even their Zomato shares. When many HNIs buy unlisted stocks before a company's IPO, they drive up the stock price. But once the pool of these HNI buyers dries up, the bubble bursts. It is the theory of greater fools and it played out during Swiggy's IPO when  brokers pitched Swiggy shares as a piece of India's hottest food-delivery and oldest quick-commerce giant, that too at a discount. But a discount to what?Because Swiggy's market capitalisation is right now stands at under $9 billion as compared to its listing valuation of $13 billion. So what happens to HNIs like the unicorn VP who bought Swiggy shares before its IPO?Tune in.Daybreak is produced from the newsroom of The Ken, India's first subscriber-only business news platform. It's refreshing, it attracts people.”Janine charts her career journey from HR Administrator and the different view of HR at HNI that led her to joining the business as Director of People in 2014. Janine gives insight in to HNI becoming an agency partner of Acrisure and the HR advisory services she now offers clients across a broad spectrum of industries. “Not only do I do HR for the employees, but I get to do advisory for our clients. I love being able to come in as that neutral party and just hear the facts and help them work through that.”She discusses HNI's lofty goals, aiming for double digit growth and their approach to unlimited PTO. "You're going to know how much time you need to take off because your job is to take care of the client, take care of the team and take care of yourself. Get those all in order and take the time that you need.”She shares her advice for fellow people leaders, emphasizing how important it is to show your company's culture from the first interaction. “Be very transparent, communicate along the way. We have to put ourselves in an individual's shoes because that will attract the people that you're trying to find.Janine describes the traits HNI look for when hiring and advises leaders coming for interview to ask the deep questions. "I'm surprised at how many at a leadership level come to interview and don't ask the deep questions. Every company has skeletons. I would rather be completely open and honest with the candidate, than start off on the wrong foot.”Connect with Janine Tracy on LinkedIn or find out more about HNI Risk Services The Insurance Coffee House Podcast is hosted by Nick Hoadley, CEO, Insurance Search, the Executive Search Consultancy for growing Insurance and Insurtech businesses around the globe. To discuss identifying & attracting the very best talent to your team or being a podcast guest, reach out to Nick via nick.hoadley@insurance-search.com Copyright Insurance Search 2023 – All Rights Reserved.

In today's show, Chris interviews William Chyz, Managing Director at Traynor Ridge Capital Inc. William, a former student painter, currently helps HNI's with their alternative investments.    We start this show with William sharing his backstory.    As a high school student, William did not have much idea about what he was going to do with his life. So, after working some odd jobs, when he joined Student Works, admittedly, he was quite naïve. But he learned the different nuances of managing a painting business in a very short time.   Specifically, as a student painter, William shares how he got a chance to hone his cold-calling skills. Going forward, this sales experience proved to be invaluable as William developed a thick skin and evolved into a more confident individual.   William graduated in 2009, at the height of the economic crisis.  Despite all odds, he managed to get a job working at a trading desk at Scotiabank. In this segment of the show, William reminds listeners that while your first job may not always be glamorous, you have to go the extra mile to develop critical skill sets that can propel you ahead.   His next employment was with BNN (Business News Network). Working in media was an interesting experience for William, and this is where he met his boss, the CEO of Westcourt Capital Corporation.   After working in extremely large organizations, William realized that in order to grow faster, he had to work in small and fast-growing organizations.    When William joined Westcourt, he was just the fifth employee on the roster. He made the decision to get back into the financial industry as he got an opportunity to work in the unique field of alternative investments.   In this next segment of the show, William gives us a peek into his professional life. William and his Westcourt team conduct due diligence for alternative investments and help HNI's generate greater returns while mitigating risk. Here, William also shares how their investment portfolio has fared in the wake of COVID.   We hope you enjoy this show!     What You Will Learn In This Show How a Student Works experience can equip you with critical and transferable skillsets How alternative investments can mitigate risk and add value to your portfolio Impact of COVID on alternative investments And so much more…   Resources Student Works  Chris Thomson LinkedIn Chris's Email

Why is Sachin Bansal taking Navi Public?

Backstage with Millionaires

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 30, 2022 18:27

In this episode, we take a look at Navi's journey, from it's inception to now it's IPO. When Sachin Bansal sold Flipkart to Walmart back in 2018, he received $1 Billion in exchange for his 5.5% stake in the company. Sachin then wanted to do something in the fintech space as he wanted to give Indian middle class customers same financial services what an HNI enjoys. With this mission, Sachin with his college friend Ankit Agarwal started BACQ Acquisitions Pvt. Ltd in 2018, which he later renamed to Navi Technologies. With Navi, Sachin and Ankit wanted to offer all the major financial services and for this their goal was to obtain a universal banking licence from the RBI. There are many stringent requirements that applicants need to meet in order get a universal banking licence from the RBI: they need to have had a successful track record for at least 10 years, they need to be deemed to be ‘Fit and Proper' by the RBI, meaning they need to have sound financials, credentials, integrity, they need to have a specific corporate structure, and there's a minimum capital requirement too, of 5 billion rupees. They acquired Chaitanya Rural Intermediation Development Services, or CRIDS, which was founded in February of 2012, and has a subsidiary called Chaitanya India Fin Credit which offers loans for things like two-wheelers, housing, small business and education. The purpose of this acquisition was two-fold. Navi wanted to fulfil the 10 year requirement set out by the RBI for a universal licence, and CRIDS would meet that requirement in February of 2022, and also, this company was aligned with the direction that Navi wanted to take with their startup: they wanted to meet the needs of Indians who hadn't historically been able to access financial services like loans, credit, investmenting, and banking. In 2020, Navi renamed CRIDS to Navi Finserv, and started offering digital loans, housing loans, and loans against property. So far, they've dispersed 4.81 lakh personal loans worth 2,246 crore rupees , and they've also issued 604 home loans too. Navi wanted to be present in every category that they could before they applied for their universal banking licence, so in 2020 they bought another company, DHFL General Insurance, which they later renamed to Navi Insurance, and today they're offering insurance in the health, motor, travel, and home categories. Navi's most recent acquisition was Essel Mutual Fund in February of 2021, which they rebranded to Navi Mutual Fund through which they're currently offering access to 15 unique mutual funds that their customers can invest in through 9 different platforms including Groww, INDMoney, and Zerodha Coin. But when Navi applied for universal banking licence, the RBI issued a press release stating that Chaitanya India Fin Credit Private Limited was found to be not suitable for a universal banking licence. This was because of reasons like Sachin was facing a charge by Enforcement Directorate and few other cases. Then, there's the unsolicited SMS issue, which the RBI had investigated themselves. Now earlier this year, Navi announced their plans to go public. The company filed their DRHP in March of 2022 and they will be going public anytime before end of current year. But a question rises; why is Sachin taking Navi public? Sachin had earlier lost control of his own startup, and he didn't want to repeat that same mistake with his next startup, which is why he currently owns 97.77% of Navi. So far, he's invested more than 4,000 crore rupees into the company, that's more than half of his net worth, and believes in what he's building. He had wanted to build Flipkart into the future, he wanted it to be a $100 billion company, but that opportunity was taken away from him, so with Navi, he has said that he's planning to build it for the next 20 years, and that it will be a $100 billion company.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have been on a selling spree across most emerging markets, including India.   They have sold Indian equities worth over $7 billion thus far in 2022 – and over $11 billion since October 2021, when they started to unwind positions here. According to analysts, the nervousness, right now, is more on account of the likely policy actions of global central banks, especially the US Federal Reserve that is seen hiking rates aggressively in the backdrop of three-decade high consumer price inflation in the US. This, they believe, can see the bond yields spike and make equities less attractive.   According to Devang Mehta, head of equity advisory at Centrum Wealth, FIIs have sold equities since October 2021. What's worrying them is a long tenure of zero interest rates across the developed world that seems to be nearing an end. Any balance-sheet contraction by the US Fed, either in terms of quantum or timing, can be a further hindrance. High oil prices are another cause for concern for our economy.   The S&P BSE Sensex and the Nifty50 have lost around 3% each since October 2021 when the FII started to sell, data show. Realty, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and healthcare indices have been the worst performers among sector indices that have slipped 7% to 11% during this period. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) and mutual funds, on the other hand, have used this opportunity to buy.   Since October 2021, MFs and DIIs lapped up stocks worth nearly Rs 68,000 crore and Rs 94,000 crore, respectively. Going forward, analysts say FIIs may choose to remain on the sidelines for now, and come back in a big way in the later part of 2022. “India is expected to receive a good share of flows once the volatility subsides. Domestic flows from retail investors, HNI's family offices still remain strong and have provided a good cushion to the markets when FIIs intensify their selling. A good probability of earnings growth along with a decent valuation rerating can compel FIIs to come back with force,” said Devang Mehta, Head of Equity Advisory, Centrum Wealth. FIIs, according to Jitendra Gohil, head of India equity research at Credit Suisse Wealth Management, still look at India as a structural growth story despite the near-term headwinds.   “The selling pressure should ease a bit in the coming months, as the economic activities gain momentum once the Omicron-related disruptions abate and corporate earnings catch up to justify India's premium valuation,”said Jitendra Gohil, Head of India Equity Research of Credit Suisse Wealth Management. The sentiment on Tuesday is expected to remain cautious with nervousness around the rising oil prices taking center stage. That apart, market participants will take cues from global markets before deciding their trading strategies. Stock specific movement is likely to continue as companies announce their December 2021 quarter earnings. Watch video

A dizzying rally in the shares of Reliance Industries single-handedly propelled the BSE barometer Sensex past the 58,000 mark for the first time on Friday, countering any weakness in index heavyweights HDFC twins, Airtel and HUL. Further, a strong India Services PMI print at 56.7 in August, its best since February 2020 also boosted the sentiment. Overall, the 30-pack index ended at 58,130, up 277 points. Nifty50 too recorded a fresh record high of 17,340 in intra-day deals and settled the day 89 points up at 17,324. The 50-pack index rose for the second consecutive week and added 3.7 per cent. Even in the broader markets, the bulls continued to maintain their grip, with both BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap indices rallying for the ninth straight day. Both the indices also hit their respective all-time highs today. The midcap index closed 0.35 per cent higher and smallcap 0.41 per cent. The market breadth also favoured the buyers, but marginally. Sectorally, weakness was seen in banking and financial names along with FMCG. That said, Nifty Media, Metal, Realty and Auto jumped over 1 per cent each. Among stock-specific names, RIL hogged the limelight, surging to a new record high of Rs 2394 ahead of JioPhone Next smartphone launch. According to a Bloomberg report, a smartphone widely believed to be priced below $50, likely the world's cheapest, will start selling a week from now. JioPhone Next will be packed with features like Google Assistant, automatic read-aloud of screen text, language translation, smart camera with augmented reality filters, and more. The stock ended 4 per cent higher at Rs 2388, with a market cap of over Rs 15 trillion. Furthermore, the recently listed Zomato also soared to a new high of Rs 151, nearly doubling over its issue price of Rs 76 per share. Shares of Exide Industries jumped 6 per cent after the company divested its entire stake in Exide Life Insurance Company, by way of sale to HDFC Life Insurance Company for a total consideration of Rs 6,687 crore. Exide Life Insurance Company is a material wholly-owned subsidiary of the Exide Industries. HDFC Life, however, ended 3 per cent down. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders jumped 5 per cent after PM Modi says the firm will partner Zvezda for the construction of commercial ships. That said, the primary market too remained abuzz as IPO by Vijaya Diagnostic managed to sail through on the last day of an issue thanks to strong buying by QIBs. The issue was subscribed nearly 5 times, with QIB quota subscribed 13 times, and retail and HNI quota 100 per cent each. Ami Organics, at the same time, was in huge demand as the IPO garnered 65 times bids as of the end of Day 3. Now, in the absence of any other triggers, global cues are likely to influence the market mood in the truncated week. Further, stock-specific moves can also influence sentiments. With markets already trading at record high levels, profit-booking may be seen in stocks running ahead of their fundamentals. Tech charts suggest Nifty could take support from 17,153 while 17480 could act as a resistance in the near term. Markets will remain shut on Friday, September 10, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Participants on Dalal Street had cold feet in the last hour of trading on Friday as they avoided rolling off positions to the next week amid global market uncertainty. After rising over 250 points in the intra-day session, the BSE barometer Sensex closed the day 66 points lower at 52,587 while its NSE counterpart Nifty ended 15 points down at 15,763. The move was in line with the global mood as equities from the US to Australia declined. US futures hinted at a weak Wall Street opening. European shared retreated from record-high levels. And Asian markets were still reeling from China's crackdown. Back home, RIL and financials were the top drags, with Bajaj twins and SBI leading the loser pack on Sensex. On the other hand, Sun Pharma and Tech Mahindra were the top gainers, followed by Power Grid and Bajaj Auto. Sun Pharma stock rallied over 10 per cent to Rs 774 after it posted a better-than-expected Q1 earnings show. Its net profit was up 73 per cent year-on-year (YoY) at Rs 1,979 crore, mainly due to robust operational performance. Its consolidated sales from operations came in at Rs 9,669 crore, a growth of 29 per cent over Q1 last year. Tech Mahindra's stock vaulted to a record high on Friday after the IT giant also beat Street estimates in the June quarter. The stock after hitting a high of Rs 1237 in intra-day ended 7.24 per cent higher at Rs 1209.45. Consequently, on the sectoral front, the Nifty IT index hit a new high too. The index rose to 30,818.55 in intra-day trade and finally ended the day 0.36 per cent up. Nifty Media, meanwhile, was the best performer with a nearly 4 per cent gain. Nifty Metal, on the other hand, after scaling a new high at 5,879.10 failed to hold gains and emerged the worst loser, down 0.7 per cent. Broader markets outperformed benchmarks. Nifty Midcap index rallied over 1 per cent and Nifty Smallcap 0.44 per cent. Another top mover of the day was Garware Hi-Tech that hit 5 per cent upper circuit after marquee investor Ashish Kacholia bought nearly one per cent additional stake in the commodity chemicals company via open market on Thursday. Benchmark indices could be in for a volatile day today amid mixed global cues, quarterly earnings and weekly derivatives expiry. Investors would likely react to Infosys' Q1 numbers in early trade while keeping a close watch on results by other IT major Wipro. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell's comments that more US economic progress is needed before stimulus can be dialled back could lend support to sentiment. At 7.30 am, SGX Nifty was trading15 points higher at 15,879. In the overnight session, US stocks ended mixed, with S&P 500 briefly hitting an intra-day record in a choppy session. Overall, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.13 per cent while the S&P 500 gained 0.12 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.22 per cent. In Asia, investors were on the sidelines as they awaited Chinese data and digested Powell's comments. Japan's Topix index lost 0.4 per cent, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.1 per cent and South Korea's Kospi index added 0.2 per cent. Oil prices, meanwhile, extended decline after a 2 per cent crash on Wednesday. Brent crude futures for September dropped 0.6 per cent to $74.32 a barrel while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for August was at $72.61 a barrel, down 0.7 per cent. Now, a look at the stock-specific triggers that are likely to guide the market today A total of 22 companies, including Wipro, Angel Broking, Tata Elxsi, L&T Infotech and Cyient are slated to post their quarterly numbers today. Analysts believe Wipro's net profit could jump 14-19 per cent YoY in Q1FY22 on 17-19 per cent growth in topline. A contraction in EBIT (earnings before interest and tax) margins sequentially is a given, which in turn would drive PAT sequentially, they said. Infosys may have missed Street's net profit expectations for the quarter ended June 2021, but raised its revenue growth guidance for FY22 to 14-16 per cent from an earlier estimate of 12-14 per cent. Infosys, meanwhile, reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 5,195 crore, up 22.7 per cent year-on-year (YoY) and 2.3 per cent sequentially. Adani Transmission has got shareholders' nod to raise up to Rs 2,500 crore in one or more tranches through the issuance of equity shares, securities and debentures. L&T Technology Services (LTTS) reported an 84 per cent YoY jump in its June quarter net at Rs 216.2 crore, largely on widening margins. Its overall revenue increased by 19.42 per cent YoY to Rs 1,562.6 crore for the reporting quarter. ICRA has assigned a long-term rating of AA- (stable) to Rossari Biotech's fund-based working capital facilities and unallocated limit facilities. A short-term rating of A1+ has been assigned to its non-fund based limit facilities. Lastly, a look at the action in the primary market. The retail investors flocked to the IPO mart in hoards on Wednesday as Zomato's IPO kicked off. The 10 per cent quota reserved for them was subscribed 2.7 times at the end of Day 1, while the IPO overall received 1.05 times bids. The QIB and HNI categories were subscribed 98 per cent and 13 per cent, respectively. The issue closes for subscription on Friday.

Tracking a weak global market setup, benchmark indices look poised to extend their losing run to the fourth day in a row, having shed over 1.5 per cent in the past three sessions.  At 7.15 am, Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange traded 42 points down at 15,072, indicating a weak start for indices back home. Besides the global market, stock-specific moves, FII flows and crude price movement could also influence market sentiment.  In the overnight session, stocks on Wall Street closed lower as investors shifted out of big technology names, while an unexpected rise in weekly US jobless claims pointed to a fragile recovery in the labour market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.38%, the S&P 500 lost 0.44% and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.72%. In Asia too, stocks retreated as investors assessed how rising borrowing costs could impact the equity rally. Japan’s Topix index and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index fell 0.6% each. South Korea's Kospi was down over 1%.  Meanwhile, Brent crude futures slipped more than $1 or 1.63% to $62.80 a barrel in early trading while WTI crude shed over 2% to drop to $59.23 a barrel. The global oil market is grappling with the weather crisis in the U.S., which will likely keep refineries shut for another week. In other news, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said India’s inflation target band of 2-6 per cent is up for review as the five-year term for the MPC's inflation-targeting framework draws to a close. The government has asked the RBI for its views on the targeting framework, said a senior government official according to a BS report.  Now, a look at the stock-specific developments that are likely to sway the market today: Mahindra CIE Automotive, Asian Tea & Exports and 6 other firms are set to post their December quarter numbers today.  Ambuja Cements reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 732 crore in the December quarter, up 24 per cent from same period last year on the back of increased revenue. Telecom stocks will be in focus after latest TRAI data showed that Airtel added as many as 5.5 million regularly paying users in December over the preceding month. Reliance Jio, meanwhile, added nearly 3.2 million subscribers and Vodafone Idea Ltd. lost 1.5 million subscribers. Private sector IDFC First Bank said its board has okayed raising up to Rs 3,000 crore through various means.  Oil India in consortium with Engineers India has decided to bid for acquiring 61.65 per cent stake of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in Numaligarh Refinery Limited. DLF's rental arm DCCDL has completed the acquisition of the entire 52 per cent stake of US-based Hines in a premium commercial project in Gurugram for Rs 780 crore. The IPO by RailTel Corporation got 42 times bids by the end of Day 3. The institutional investor portion was subscribed 65 times, the high-net-worth individual (HNI) portion 73 times, retail portion 17 times and employee quota 3.4 times. The government is likely to price the Rs 820-crore IPO at Rs 94 which values the company at around Rs 3,000 crore.

Benchmark indices look set to return to their winning ways after five days of relentless bear hammering, tracking firm cues from global peers. Meanwhile, investors would also react to the Economic Survey that will be tabled in the Parliament today, Q3 numbers and stock-specific triggers as the session would progress. At 7.22 am, Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange traded 145 points up at 13,987, indicating a gap-up start for Dalal Street. In the overnight session, US stocks closed higher, bouncing from sharp losses in the prior session, thanks to a broad rally as earnings season got off to a strong start and fears lessened around hedge funds selling long positions to cover shorts. A surprise drop in jobless claims also boosted the sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.99%, the S&P 500 gained 0.98% and the Nasdaq Composite added 0.5%. Tracking the gains on Wall Street, Asian markets too staged a rebound. Japan’s Topix index climbed 0.3%, South Korea’s Kospi index added 0.7% and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.9%. That apart, all eyes today would be on the Economic Survey today.  As per a Bloomberg report, India is predicting that the economy will expand 11% in the year starting April on hopes that vaccine roll out will contain the pandemic, while low-interest rates and measures to lure investment will spur business activity. The forecast for next year is in line with the International Monetary Fund’s estimate for 11.5% expansion. Now, a look at the stock-specific developments that are likely to sway the market today: Cipla, Dabur, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, IndusInd Bank, DRL and Tata Motors are among 27 firms set to post their December quarter numbers today. Tech Mahindra will post a muted growth in its December quarter profit and revenue on a sequential basis, believe analysts. However, on a yearly basis, both figures are expected to decline. Shares of IRFC will debut on the bourses today. The issue that ran between January 18-20 was subscribed 3.49 times. TVS Motor Company posted the highest-ever profit of Rs 266 crore during the quarter ended December 31, as compared to Rs 121.07 crore. The two-wheeler company has clocked the highest-ever revenue of Rs 5,404 crore in the third quarter of FY20-21. InterGlobe Aviation, which operates IndiGo, reported a net loss of Rs 620 crore in the third quarter of pandemic-struck 2020-21 financial year, against a net profit of Rs 496 crore in the year-ago period Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), the ports & logistics company of the Adani Group, successfully priced a $500 million 10-year bullet senior unsecured USD note issuance at a fixed coupon of 3.10 per cent. V-Mart Retail launched a QIP issue on Thursday in order to raise funds. Floor price of Rs 2,432.8 per share has been set which is at a 0.3% premium to Thursday's closing price. In an update on the primary market, the maiden offering of Stove Kraft managed to garner 18 times subscription. The institutional investor portion garnered 8 times subscription, the high-net worth individual (HNI) portion was subscribed 33 times, while the retail quota saw 26 times subscription.

The domestic equity market is expected to see a tepid start on Friday as indicated by SGX Nifty. At 07:25 AM, Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) were trading 17.95 points, or 0.14 per cent lower at 12,798.80. On Thursday, the benchmark Sensex closed at 43,600, down 580 points or 1.31 per cent, the sharpest fall since October 26 while Nifty50 fell 167 points, or 1.3 per cent, to end at 12,772 amid renewed fears of lockdowns.   In the overnight trade, US stocks ended in positive territory as fresh stimulus hopes buoyed investor sentiment toward the end of a session fraught with worries over mounting shutdowns and layoffs linked to spiraling Covid-19 infection rates.   However, global stocks came under pressure on Friday after US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin called for an end to pandemic relief for struggling businesses, sparking a rare clash between the central bank and Treasury and weighing on sentiment.   Back home, shares of telecom stocks may remain in focus today as the merger of Bharti Infratel and Indus Towers to create a mega tower company has been completed, and Vodafone Idea has received Rs 3,760.1 crore cash for its 11.15 per cent holding in Indus.   Further, Reliance Industries on Thursday said it has completed the sale of about 10 per cent stake in its retail unit to a clutch of foreign investors for Rs 47,265 crore.   That apart, shares of Gland Pharma will list on bourses today. The retail and HNI portions of its IPO were subscribed just 51 per cent and 24 per cent and the Rs 6,480-crore IPO managed to sail through solely on the back of institutional investor demand.   In a separate development, market regulator Sebi has filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking it to direct embattled Sahara conglomerate chief Subrata Roy and two of his companies to deposit Rs 62,600 crore ($8.4 billion) that it said was due to its investors.

Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. Targeting investors for your fund and getting buy in is a key step in raising a fund.  Potential investors include family offices, high net-worth individuals (HNI), and angel investors.  Larger, institutional investors such as pension funds, are typically not interested in unproven fund managers and rarely go below $50M funds.  Institutional investors look for a prior track record and have minimum investments that would put their investment above a limit on how much of the fund their investment takes. This is typically around 20%. You could engage a placement agent whose fee is usually in the range of 2 to 3 percent. You can also use meetings with investors before the fundraise to see how the market will respond.   The key to launching the fund is to secure an anchor investor who will allow you to use their name.  This gives the fundraise momentum as the initial funds are secured. The most common question will be about past performance. If you have led funds in the past then you have a track record to present. If not, then if you invested as an angel investor in numerous startups then that too could give you a performance record. Be sure to highlight any investments that resulted in a successful exit. If you were an operator of a company with a successful track record, that could be used as well.  Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. Let’s go startup something today.-----For more episodes from Investor Connect, please visit the site at: Check out our other podcasts here: For Investors check out: For Startups check out: For eGuides check out: For upcoming Events, check out For Feedback please contact info@tencapital.group

Jeff talks inspections, encouragement, and unbelievable stories from his days patrolling. From Giving Tickets to Giving Advice Jeff has given his fair share of Level 1 inspections – he spent 34 years in the Wisconsin State Patrol as a trooper, then a sergeant, and finally an investigator with the motor carrier enforcement unit. Hear how his experience doling out tickets set him up to become a risk advisor with HNI. He’s changed from maintaining order through tickets to preventing disorder as a risk advisor. Keys to a Stress-Free Inspection Jeff shares how to keep an inspection “boring” – just the way it should be. Because the only one who may enjoy an “exciting” inspection is the officer getting a break from an otherwise mundane shift! Telling Tails After three decades in the state patrol, you know Jeff’s got stories. He’s seen some pretty odd things. Jeff shares a few tales from the road, one including a pretty exotic tail – it wasn’t a puppy tail, that’s for sure! Quotes “I try to tell them to be prepared by doing all the things you can ahead of time. Do your good walkarounds; make sure your pre-trips are quality pre-trips – not just walking around the truck. So that you’re comfortable with the fact that everything’s working on your truck that you have control over.”“If you’re more organized it makes that contact with the officer boring – and that’s what you want! You want a boring contact.”“I enjoy coming down here because this is truly best in class. A lot of people claim to be best in class, but this is best in class.”“And I thought, ‘Is this a miniature person jumping out at me?’”“If you do your walk around or if you check those lights every once in a while or leave that phone alone – all those things, if you just do those little things right, there’s a better chance that you’re not going to have an issue or problem. But we sometimes get complacent.” Links Roadside Inspection Cheat SheetViolations from 2018 Intl. Road CheckMore From CVSA on 2019 International Roadcheck

Congrats Livy! Earlier this month, a few people from our Operations and Sales teams attended HNI Corporation’s annual carrier conference. There were many kind words of Livy’s professionalism, positive attitude, work ethic, and communication skills. Her outside of the box thinking and drive to find a solution for their team was highly valued. Congratulations Livy on this recognition, and thank you for your dedicated service to all the customers you interact with every day! Supporting St. Jude We are excited about all of the support we have seen for the Nussbaum Family Fun Run so far. But with 4DX we see that good leadership is only part of the whole picture. The employees that are on the ground doing the day to day are the driving force behind helping companies reach their Wildly Important Goals. Join us in this week’s exchange as Les Kaschner of Franklin Covey teaches us about finding the harmony in the space where bottom up meets top down and the amazing things we can accomplish when we find North and work together to get there. There’s a little bit of top down, but there is a lot of bottom up.
