A new year is here, and we know what that means: a sense of beginnings, of possibilities, of projects that are ready to start and can change our life for the better. We tell ourselves we'll make a push for better health, a more active body, a more nutritious diet or finally picking up that musical instrument we've had for a long time but never really got to playing yet. We've all felt this and followed it in some capacity. Some projects start and last for many months, while others fizzle out rather quickly and leave us going back to our usual routine. How can we prevent this? How can we better hope to stick with something that we KNOW it's going to impact our life for the better? Join me as I discuss in today's episode my thoughts about new year's resolutions, how smart goals helped me and my clients stick longer to their projects, and why intention is so important when choosing what to invest our time and effort in. A lot of us want to become financially independent from our parents. Becoming financially stable can be hard when you have grown up in poverty and/or have not not yet healed your money wounds. Many of us may have grown up seeing our immigrant mothers and other female role models struggle with having a financial voice. As adults we may now be trying to become financially literate but we still get stressed easily because we may not have the knowledge that our white counterparts have when it comes to finances. We all want to be financially free but for daughters of immigrants, money can often cause us a lot of stress. When womxn of color earn 55 cents to the dollar a white man earns, it is time that we learn how to find our financial voice. So how do we do this? As we kick of Hispanic Heritage Month, I am so excited to bring in a 1st gen Latinx tax professional to talk to us about using our financial voice. Sonia Castelan shares tips in this episode on how to feel more confident when it comes to your money, especially when it comes to doing your taxes. Tune in as Sonia shares her story and gives us all amazing tips on taxes so that we are less stressed when it comes to tax season. You can learn more about Sonia below: Sonia is a 1st Generation Latinx Tax Professional, a community builder, and a dedicated financial literacy teacher. What does money have to do with our mental health? Everything! In this first episode of season 3, I dive into how money affects our mental health especially as womxn of color who are daughters of immigrants. A lot of us struggle with scarcity mindset, limiting money beliefs, and wonder why we are so poor. I touch a bit on the systemic problems for daughters of immigrants to overcome so that we can rise up together and continue to uplift future generations. I also give a preview of what is to come on this season of the podcast and what we will be covering, so tune in and make sure to share the podcast with a friend.
Why is female empowerment so important? Because as women our self-esteem is constantly lowered by men, whether we realize it or not. We have been conditioned to believe that we should put men's needs and pleasure before ours. So in this episode, I share with you my thoughts on feminine energy, female friendships, feminism, and how we can lift each other up.
Have you ever felt like an imposter in your own skin? Have your physical traits and appearance made you feel as if you were not good enough or didn't belong? Have you ever experienced microaggressions at the hands of people from your own race or culture? If you've ever been called a coconut, Oreo, banana, or something similar, you may know what I'm talking about. This phenomenon may have a name. Some people call it racial imposter syndrome. In this episode I talk about racial imposter syndrome and cultural imposter syndrome and how these two are different and can affect the mental health of people of color, especially those who identify as bicultural, biracial, multiracial, multicultural, ethnically ambiguous, white-passing, and more. We talk about race, ethnicity, and how the lack of fitting neatly into a box impacts our mental wellbeing. Tune into this episode and if let's keep the conversation going on social media. In this episode, I talk about why representation matters. I talk about the meaning of representation in the media for people of color. I share my opinion through the lens of a trauma therapist and social worker who often has clients coming through the door asking why their self esteem is so low. In this episode I talk about why your confidence may be low as a result of the lack of representation in the media. It's a radical notion but hear me out. We know microagressions can lead to racial trauma and this constant cancelling of shows that feature Latinas and other BIPOC folx is at the very least a microagression if not an attack with a message on people of color. Listen to the episode and let's keep the conversation going on social media. In this week's episode, I answer a question that I get quite often from clients who think they are too angry. They may ask “Why am I so angry at my partner?” or “Why am I so angry at the world?” and so in this episode, I do my best to answer these questions with the theories I have and the issues I often find behind this anger. I explain a bit about anger as an emotion, the history behind it, the stigma around anger-management, and how to regulate our emotions. It can often feel that our emotions get the better of us and we take out our anger and frustration on our loved ones so in this episode, I address that and the things we can do to control our anger in a healthy manner. As a trauma-informed therapist for women of color who are daughters of immigrants, I use my unique lens to give you my perspective on why this issue may be so prevalent in our communities. As immigrants and daughters of immigrants, we struggle a lot with identity issues. We feel guilty and lack a sense of belonging because we don't belong in a specific community, meaning we have a dual identity. That's why this week, I brought on my good friend, Richa Joshi who is the creator of Dual Nations. Richa's company makes tshirts and apparel you can proudly wear to own your dual identity. We know how confusing the world can be for immigrants, especially when we have to balance learning a new language and culture as well as maintaining our own heritage and culture in our homes. That's why owning your identity and journey to learning about yourself is such an important topic. If you have been looking for a therapist who understands the unique issues that people with dual identities struggle with, book an appointment below. https://globalcitizentherapy.setmore.com/ Check out Dual Nation here: https://dualnation.com.au/ If you would like to learn how to find coping skills that work for you during the Soul-Care Vs.
